FM10 variables: does Default Paragraph Font still clear formatting?

I'm trying to build variables in FM10 that I can copy then paste "cleanly". Have tried variables of the form
<Default Paragraph Font>text<Default Paragraph Font> and
<Default Paragraph Font>text
but when I paste either of these and continue typing, the following text has the style of the originally-copied variable, not the style of the para into which I pasted the variable.
Any ideas re getting FM10 to do what I want?
Can anyone confirm that this method works in FM7 (I've uninstalled FM7 so can't test it) but doesn't work in FM10?

In rebutal, I just checked back with FM8, FM7.2 and FM6 and the behaviour is all the same as in FM10. If you copy and paste a variable from another para format, the pasted version of the variable carries along the formatting of the context that you copied it from - exactly as would happen for any text copied from the same paratag. The setting of the <Default ¶ Font> at the start of the variable does turn off the formatting for the variable text that follows, however the variable container still has the formatting of the source.
It doesn't matter that what's pasted is a variable or not. When you copy any content from one paragraph to another, you pick up the formatting from the location that you copied from. If you try a Paste Special > Text, you will strip the formatting, but in the case of a variable, you will deposit the contents of the variable and not the variable itself.
Here's the same behaviour in FM7.2 with the "variable" in red so that it stands out:
Note: if you use the arrow key to move over a space immediately after inserting (in any version) you won't get the formatting that comes along for the ride. If you place your cursor immediately at the end of the variable and check the format settings in the Character Designer, you will still see the source formatting that came along for the ride.
The bullet-proof way to quickly insert variables is to use the ctrl+0 and type-ahead of the variable name (this shows in the Status bar as you type the variable name). Use variable naming techniques that will get you the unique string in 2-3 characters, then it's only ever a few keystrokes away.
In the Find/Change by Pasting situation, you would need to copy the variable from a similar context. Note: this applies to anything that you've put on the clipboard, including text and not just variables.

I have a set of terms that are coming in two pages. I need to bring them in just one page. I noticed that that window is using a default paragraph. But when I change the font of that default paragraph, it does not show any change. Any suggestions on this?

If the device type assignd to the printer does not support the new fon't size, smallest available will be used.
To check available font size, goto SE73, select printer font, display, double click on device type you are using, and see the font size is available.
If 'Scal.' displayed in the font column, all font sizes shoud print, if the fon't size is not scalable, only the available will print, remaining will use the nearest font size

Disabling (turning off) a font will make it unavailable for use in any font menu. You can alwasy enable the font(s) again - they're not gone permanantly. DON'T disable System fonts, though -> that's just asking for trouble.

Variable printed using incorrect font - Sapscript

Hi,
I am using a Sapscript form to print a document. I am printing a variable using a A_SIMP font. When I try to print 2 diff documents each of this document prints the text in either Courier or Times. I want it to be repalced by either Courier or Times and not either or. I tried changing the replacement font for A_SIMP but it does not work.
The paragraph format used does not define any font. I am using a character format which has the A_SIMP font defined. I am using frontend printer and the devide type does not include A_SIMP font in it.

I have installed the fonts in 4.7, but when I upgraded it to Ecc6.0 the font is still exist, but the text displayed is being striked with #.
I have checked like you have said in SE73, my font family is ZCORSIVA and the RTF Text is FONT Monotype Corsiva. is there something wrong with it?

Default web font replaced by script font

Hello everyone,
For some strange reason one of the default web fonts is being replaced by a script font only in some pages (see attached image). I've tried to identify the font to disable it but haven't had any luck with it. I use FontExplorer Pro to manage all my fonts and I already tried disabling all fonts not belonging to the operating system but the issue still persists. Does anybody know what the name of this font is or how to solve the problem? I'd appreciate it very much.

Thanks, Bee! But I just figured out that this problem is caused by disabling Georgia.
There are several fonts that most likely I will never use (e.g. fonts for other languages, symbols), so I went ahead and disabled them in FontBook when I got my computer. It just occurred to me, after starting this thread, to go back to FontBook to enable all fonts and go in batches to try to pinpoint the font causing the problem. And so I found it! I figured that since I'm using FontExplorer Pro now I can manage them directly from it and not thru FontBook anymore.
It was a painful task but it was worth doing it, knowing that many people can learn from my mistake.

i want to set a variable with default value and can be changed by the user, so i new a variable with setting : customer exit, single value, optional, ready for input.
in my customer exit code, i set a default value, eg. 20070530
when the variable screen popup, it display the default value 20070530, i changed it to 20070529, but it doesn't work , it still display the data in 20070530, how can i solve this problem?

As mentioned by Anil, you need to restrict your customerr Exit code to I_STEP = 1.

When going from Gmail to google calendar I get an error message that the google is asking for a redirect that cannot complete. This works fine in IE, but not my beloved Firefox. I have the default cookie settings still in place

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies.
Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

By default, the Pages developers chose to use 12 point after paragraph spacing which will make it appear as a double space between paragraphs. You need to create your own default template. Set up your document with the line spacing, margins, headers, etc. as you'd like. Redefine all of the paragraph & character styles to have your desired font.
While you're at it, you might want to set default styles for all objects, text boxes, tables, paragraph styles, etc. Start with a blank document & insert an object. Change the color, wrap, etc. to your choosing & then go to Format > Advanced > Define Default Shape Style then delete the object. Repeat with an image/photo, a text box & a table.
Now, save this as a template then, in Pages > Preferences, select this template as the default for new documents. All of your new documents will have these settings for inserted objects, images & tables. Unfortunately, the settings won't apply to any other templates or "foreign" documents you open with Pages.

How do I change the default paragraph style from Body Text?

The default paragraph style in my email setup is Body Text. This does not wrap properly for some recipients, but Paragraph does. How do I change the default so that Paragraph is automatically used when I start a new email?

There are two types of defaults: defaults for all new documents and defaults for the current document. To change the default for any open document make sure no text frame is active and change the formatting as desired in either the Control panel or the Character and Paragraph panels. To change default formatting for new document (those not yet created) do this while no file is open. You can’t change the defaults for several documents at once without a script.

CS5 Default substituted fonts

I'm asking this question for the editor that I regularly work with on projects. He works on a Windows laptop editing a lot of content that is designed on Intel Macs. We share multi-use fonts through Universal Type client but whenever we use system fonts, we run into the issue where different computers have different versions of the same font. So whenever he opens one of our documents in IC, he gets a missing fonts warning for fonts that he has (Times, Arial, Wingdings, etc.). Is there a way that he can set those fonts to be substituted by the system font versions that he has so that he can see the approximate flow using the correct font without having to actually replace the font (which would then mean that the designers would have to replace the font again when they reopen the file)? Hope that makes sense. I know IC uses a default font to substitute missing fonts, I'm just wondering if there is away to permanently assign certain fonts to substitute certain missing fonts.

We have Font Folio (the first open type version) that we share the licenses for through Universal Type Client, but the system fonts are the problem--the fonts that aren't included in Font Folio that are installed with each system's OS. Some of us have OT versions, some of us have TT versions, and those crazy Macs keep throwing elusive dfonts into the mix. Wingdings is the biggest headache. The character sets are the same from computer to computer, but not the font types, so you're constantly getting missing font messages just for using the bullet in a bullet list. It's all well and good to say what we should have on every computer, but we're a ministry and we can't afford to repurchase fonts for every computer just because the OS that it comes with doesn't have the same version of the same font that every other computer has. If we could just change the default of the substitute font to show the closest approximate for editing purposes, it would be a good workaround. The editors are not creating final product, just editing text, so they just need to see the closest approximate on their system (which is often the same font) without actually changing the font. I was just hoping this was some option buried somewhere in the app that you could set, but obviously not.
In our defense, we don't use system fonts that much, but they do creep into a layout, such as using a bullet list which defaults the wingding font and having a style based on the default paragraph style (which is usually a system font), etc.

Why does my form data gets cleared out when clicking on the back button.

Can someone explain why does my form selections get cleared out when clicking on the back button.
I have a JSP page that displays a form with some selections and text boxes. I populate the page and submit the request. The action on the submit call another jsp page, which processes the data and displays the results via a <jsp:include> statement which calls the results page. When clicking on the back button from the results page, it returns me to the form page, but the selections are cleared out.
1. Is there something in my calling of the pages that causes this behavior and can I prevent it?
I notice that the behavior is different when using the IE 6.0 version Netscape 7.1. IE clears the page Netscape 7.1 retains the settings.
If I cannot prevent this behavior does that mean I will have to save the state of the form data. And if I have to save the form data, what would be the easiest method of doing this. I'm a beginner to JSP and Java, but have some ASP experience. I don't understand why the back button in a JSP request clears the form data but a regular HTML page does not can someone explain?

the browser doesn't have to remember what you submitted and fill that back in.
you can't prevent it unless you can ensure a new request to the server in which you can fill the default values in there.

Installing Fonts modifies default system fonts

I installed fonts on my MBP but now when I browse to google in firefox it shows the text of it in a font called gear crank. Also in MS Word on mac it has chosen some other font as the default. I installed the fonts from a package into my user font library.
So first question is why does mac os x allow the system font to be changed by installing other user fonts?
Second question how do I set my default system font for all appliations?

Try running TinkerTool, click on Fonts and then Set to Default. This solved a similar problem for a friend.

Mail & Contacts: "Italic" doesn't work on default message font

On Mail Preferences/Fonts and colours I set the default message font as a Calibri Italic 15.
Now, the problem is that opening a new message I get Calibri 15 BUT NOT Italic. I have to make it manually...
Does anyone know why this happens and the way to solve this issue?

There is a way around this (thanks to apple for responding to my bug submission) but it's slow. Test to see if the glyphCode created is greater than zero or not:
