Focus of a JTextField & font size.

The program has a FlowLayout in which 2 JTextFields are added by means of
add(new JScrollPane(verbInstructions));
add(new JScrollPane(verbTextBox));
How can the focus be set to verbTextBox elsewhere in the program?
Also how can the size of the text moved to a JTextField be in a smaller font than the default?
Thanks for your help.

Ah! Sorry, OP. Then again...
That is why Swing related questions should be posted in the Swing forum.A fair point!
What's the reasoning behind this, out of interest?

  • "Preview," how to change font size for when you "fill in the blanks" in a pdf file?

    In the pdf reader, "PREVIEW,"
    I specifically want to find out how to change the font size for "fill in the blanks" information. They're usually huge and i just simply want to make them smaller.
    As a complete aside, is there a keyboard shortcut for being on google chrome or safari, then immediately opening the window for "preview." I'm typing notes out on preview while listening to a video lecture on my web browser, usually chrome, and i'd like to switch back and forth.
    Thank you, I'd greatly appreciate any advice.

    HI Velders,
    Can't answer your first question but can offer some information regarding your 'aside.'
    Command-tab will move the focus to the most recent previous application. If repeated, it will step through the pen applications from most to least recent. In your described case, you could use command-tab to toggle between Preview and Safari.
    Command-~ runs you through the open windows in the same application. As with command-tab, the steps are from most to least recent.

  • Font size and user form

    Hello,
    I'd like to know if somebody find a solution for the font size issue on user form.
    since BO 2005, the user can change the font size. the application will format all the controls of form with the good size.
    However, the layout does not follow very well for user form.
    If the font size is changed while a user form is open, the aplication will reformat it perfectly, the controls are bigger, and the distance between the controls are ok
    But when the user form is open again, it keeps the distance and control size of the XML file but change the font size, so the layout is very bad, sometime the static text or the caption could not be read, so it's not possible to use the form as is.
    I use XML to create form, I haven't try by code, but in my case, I can't use code because there are a lot of controls in the form.
    Any idea if it's possible to call the Business One procedure to resize the form and its control (not only the font) ?
    Thanks you

    Try resetting the FontSize of all items (and columns) to the one you used for the design after loading the form.
    I use a simple loop over all items and an inner loop for matrixes and grids to set the font size in their columns.
    Now users can have a larger font, but the added forms will use the original design's font size.
    This approach has some drawbacks:
    - Added forms use a different font size
    - Some of the controls will still get their size based on the system default font size
       (checkboxes, drill-down arrays, headercolumns, perhaps more?).
    - Focused item is not resized by this (so far I have been able to work around this).
    - Changing the font size while the form is open, will break the design as the
      font size does not change, but the control sizes do.
    This is not an ideal solution, but it might give some help, until a better one presents itself.
    If the users don't use a dramatically different font size, my form design work quite ok,
    even with the drawbacks or at least it is better than nothing. It is a good idea to test
    the form with different font sizes to make it more flexible.

  • Spry Menu and IE Issue (Hover Font Size)

    I'm not able to figure out why the hover focus setting works fine with Firefox or Chrome, but I can't find a setting in the CSS to ensure the value for the font on a hover within IE remains fixed. on a hover, the font size increases slighly in IE and pushes menu out of alignment very slightly. I was able to keep the hover size fixed in Firefox and Chrome via the CSS values for the spry, but not sure why IE is doing this and if there is a setting specific to IE that would allow me to keep the hover font size fixed, but not change the values in Firefox/Chrome. Is there any way to lock in the hover value using CSS for the font so in IE it remains constant?

  • Why is the Photoshop font size extremely small for their navigation menus and tools?

    Why is the font size for the Photoshop Cloud navigation menus and tools displaying extremely small on my laptop? I can barely see them. The other Adobe Cloud applications don't display small.

    Is a readable interface an unreasonable expectation?
    Not at all, and we should well expect that Adobe is working on it.  By their own admission they ARE working on it.  I don't sense "deafening silence" at all.  But results won't/can't be instantaneous and they're not going to promise you release dates.  Life is not like that, no matter how many times you click your red shoes together.
    It's not hard to understand that right now only a small minority of Photoshop users are running high dpi screens that can't take advantage of the 200% setting.  And it was the choice of those users to buy such hardware even in light of the fact that Photoshop can't work fully well on it yet.  Adobe didn't force anyone to buy a 150 ppi display.
    Frankly, if you've chosen such hardware even though Photoshop doesn't offer 150% scaling, it's your own fault.  I recently invested well over $1000 in a new monitor and I planned well enough ahead to buy a 100ppi model (Dell U3014, and it's GREAT).  There's a reason that very new technology is called "bleeding edge".  If you want "To Work" instead of "Dealing With Quirks", sometimes you have to be conservative.
    A majority of Photoshop users DO expect new and useful features, however, such as new tools, new camera support in Camera Raw, etc., so Adobe understandably cannot dedicate every resource they have to revamping Photoshop's user interface just for a special few folks who have irresponsibly adopted new display technology.
    We can debate all day how much Adobe ought to be spending on engineering development, but you and I don't run the company.  We don't make business decisions for them.  I do, however, claim to understand their capabilities and limitations - possibly better than most - because I'm in the same business.
    I can only recommend you be patient.  One day Photoshop will respond to your desktop settings.
    What the heck has anybody ever accomplished here, with Adobe, in either fashion?
    Rhetorical or not, some quite tangible things do come to mind...
    At one time I couldn’t paste my clipboard containing a grayscale image into a new document via an action assigned to a key; the color engine would crash.  Today I can do so without incident.
    At one time multiple Help windows would pop up unexpectedly, often when working in the Styles panel.  Today they don’t.
    At one time I had to select Basic GPU mode.  Today I use Advanced GPU mode without a problem.
    Once running Liquify or Smart Sharpen or a number of other things were slow, especially on big images.  Now they're quite fast, with GPU acceleration.
    At one time an action could not write data back to a document when in windowed mode.  Today it works.
    At one time panorama stitching and focus stacking did not work.  Now it works.
    At one time most filters only worked on 8 bits/channel data.  Now many of them can handle 16 bits/channel.
    Once naysayers predicted that the Photoshop Photography bundle would shoot up in price.  Yet today it's still $9.99 a month.
    Once it was impossible to read Photoshop's UI on a 200+ ppi screen.  Now there's a new 200% setting for that.
    I'm sure I can think of other things.  And of course the software isn't perfect today.  It never will be absolutely perfect.
    Station_two, are you keeping up with the latest Photoshop releases?  If not, I submit that your rhetoric may be falling out of date.

  • Can I Make Font SIze Respond to Container Resize?

    I have a JDialog.
    I added a JPanel as the content pane.
    I use a GridBagLayout for all JPanels.
    The content pane also has a ComponentListener, and I use its componentResize () method to sense when user drags the Dialog to a new size.
    There are two sub JPanels, and one of them uses a CardLayout to conrol a set of other JPanels.
    All the JPanels have a collection of JTextFields and JComboBoxes that is determined at run time.
    My goal is to permit resizing to any size and keeping all components visible and fonts readable.
    That means controlling the font size.
    Getting a ratio from the requested size change and applying it to change the font size of all components almost works. Its good for all increases up to full screen. However I lose it on the way down. The panels shrink more than the font shrinks the fields and boxes.
    The Title and other insets prevent it from being perfect. There is also some slippage from JComboBox having an independent JTextField editor component. Their heights often are inconsistent, i.e. the JComboBox height ends less than the preferred size of its editor component.
    And, if not careful the componentResize ()degenerates into an infinite loop, i.e. I change the font and then pack () which triggers another call to resize.
    Anyway, does anyone know of a model for this problem.
    My goal is for it to stay consistent no matter how small it is shrunk.

    Hi Mike,
    That's right, MultiTouch and Gestures can not be used at the same time, but you should always be able to receive mouse events for 1st touch point.
    Could you try changing your code as below.
    function mouseDownHandler(event:MouseEvent):void {
    TweenLite.to(mainMenu.menuPres, .2, {alpha:.5});
    function mouseUpHandler(event:MouseEvent):void {
    TweenLite.to(mainMenu.menuPres, .2, {alpha:1});
    please sprinkle some trace statements in event handler to see if they get triggered.
    Also, did you try just adding event listener for MouseEvent.CLICK, instead of MOUSE_DOWN and MOUSE_UP.

  • Calculating maximum font size

    Okay, I have a JTextField with wrap on. It's setEditable(false). The string in it is going to be changing constantly and the field has a fixed size. I'm trying to come up with a method that will determine the maximum sized font that will be able to fit in the TextField without requiring a ScrollPane.
    I'm not quite sure where to start on this one. I'm sure I can come up with a calculation involving font point size and FontMetrics.stringWidth() but I can't figure it out. Any ideas would be helpful.

    hi
    * Computes a correct font size to use for the text of this component.
    private void computeFontSize()
        int height = getSize().height;
        int width  = getSize().width;
        if (current_font != null) //this will be the font the component is currently showing
                // need to create a brand new Font everytime to see if the
                // stringWidth fits into our current width.
                // We can check height by pixels, but sadly need to create a new font
                // for checking the width.
                Font tempFont = new Font(current_font.getName(), current_font.getStyle(), height);
                FontMetrics fm = getFontMetrics(tempFont);
                if (fm != null)
         int textWidth  = fm.stringWidth(getText());
                         if (textWidth > getSize().width)
                                // Text doesn't fit horizontally; scale it down a bit.
                                // (stop div by zero errors)
                                if (textWidth < 1)
                                         textWidth = 1;
                                int newFontHeight = (height * width) / textWidth;
                                if (newFontHeight != current_font.getSize())
                                      current_font = new Font(current_font.getName(), current_font.getStyle(), newFontHeight);
                         else if (tempFont.getSize() != current_font.getSize())
                               current_font = tempFont;
               tempFont = null;
               fm = null;
    }this code was taken from a homegrown label component that scales its own font based on its size.
    There is enough here for you to work out what you need.
    If it meets your needs, don't be shy with the dukes

  • Custom focus rectangle in JTextField

    I'm trying to change my theme/look & feel to show a focus rectangle for JTextField, somewhat like this: [http://www.macvswindows.com/index.php?title=GUI_Customization|http://www.macvswindows.com/index.php?title=GUI_Customization] (second image down, or direct [http://www.macvswindows.com/images/thumb/f/f2/osx_aqua_colors.png/500px-osx_aqua_colors.png|http://www.macvswindows.com/images/thumb/f/f2/osx_aqua_colors.png/500px-osx_aqua_colors.png] ) I don't want to make it exactly like MacOS, but a similar idea.
    For now I'm just trying to do it on the inner part of the field. I can get it to paint with the code below, but then the caret painting messes things up as I tab through the fields or move the caret around inside the fields.
    So it seems I'm headed down the wrong path, what should I be doing? Extending DefaultHighlighter or DefaultCaret, or something else?
    Thanks,

  • How to do I increase the font size inside the drop down menus?

    I am trying to enlarge the default font size of the drop down menus that appear when you use the items in the menu bar. For example, I want to increase the font size used in the list that appears under "bookmarks." I do not trying to do anything other than this. Theme and Font size changer does not do this.

  • Problem while adding both Key And Focus Listeners to JTextField

    Hi!
    I have something peculiar while adding Key and Focus Listener to JTextField. Suppose i add just Key Listener then everything's fine and i could keep track of keys being pressed. But as soon as i add a Focus Listener to it with the code to select full text in focusGained() method, it starts reponding wrongly to arrow keys pressed and does not perform desired actions. For let arrow key it moves caret by one for the first time after that it does not resond to that unless caret is changed by using mouse. If right arrow key is pressed the it moves the caret to last position from wherever it is. For UP and DOWN it selects the full text(This should be done when it gets focus)
    public void focusGained(FocusEvent fe)
    setCaretPosition(0);
    moveCaretPosition(getDocument().getLength());
    Can someone help me out on this?
    thanks and regards,
    Amit.

    None of those things will cause your JFrame to resize itself. And this is probably a good thing, because your JFrame shouldn't change size once you have created it. Why not create your JPanel so that it has enough space for you to add the component later? Or why not just add the component to start with and then enable it or make it editable when you decide that's necessary?

  • How to change font size in iCal

    How do I change the font size in iCal?  When I go to print the monthly calendar, it is so small I can't read it.  But for the life of me I can't find where to change the size!

    earlnkids,
    The text size selection should be available in the first page of the iCal print options:

  • How does one change the font size for folders and/or file lists in the Bookmarks Library?

    How does one change the font size for folders and/or file lists in the '''Bookmarks''' Library?
    Since the upgrade to version 9.0.1 of Firefox, the Bookmarks feature changes are confusing me. They seem to be confusing themselves as well. The list of bookmarks has changed. The font size is so small that my aging eyes cannot read it without fogging the screen with my breath. Some folders are out of alphabetical order (where I know they were previously good), and some are missing altogether (folders to which I frequently add references).
    As for missing or deranged files or folders, was there something that I should have done or now need to do to recover those after the upgrade (or before)?
    With regard to font size,
    1. there is no “Edit Bookmarks” or like option to edit the list in this version
    2. the “zoom” option in the “view” list of functions is greyed out when in “Show All Bookmarks” window
    3. expanding the browser window has no effect on font size
    4. “Preferences” settings for font size has no effect in that window either, including advanced settings
    5. “Help” offers none that I can find.
    Can any of you Help?!?

    Maybe this extension helps:

  • How do I edit font size in acrobat 8?

    I am trying to make edits to the font and font size in acrobat 8. I have clicked on the text toolbar under advanced editing and selected my text. All of the forums I have read say to right click on that text and select "properties." When I right click, my acrobat does NOT give me the option for properties. The closest option is "text style" which does not give me any font or font size options - only bold, underline, etc. Can anyone assist me in where I ca find these options or why it is not giving me the "properties" option?

    Select the text and type ctrl-e
