Folio: Article navigation linear issue

Hello!
A possible beginners question, possibly more advanced: I've just started using the Folio Builder for Cs5.5 but have encountered some difficulties on the navigation side between articles within a folio. Basically I've set up a main article with three pages that can only be browsed vertically. From there, I would like to link an article to each of the three pages that can only be browsed horizontally. What I've found is that it's possible to swipe to any article from anywhere in the main article. I would like to "lock" the Y and X-axis, if that makes sense, so the user have to swipe down to page 3 for example of the main article, to be able to access article 3. I've attached a few pics on what it looks like in Content Viewer.
Any geniouses out there who have tried something similar with a linear "locking" of the navigation. Thanks a lot!
Pic 1: I don't want the user to be able to browse to Article 1 without having to browse down vertically to the page that says "Link to Article 1"
Pic 2: Same problem here, now the user can horizontally browse through "Article 1", before getting to "Article 2".
Pic 3: Same again, the three articles are adjacent. I want them to be separated.

Thanks guys – both good advice. Turning into Object States would be a good solution but it loses a bit of the point as swiping through the pages in the articles won't be possible – might as well do it on the web in that case.
A shame DPS won't allow you to do "vertical swipe only" the same way as "horizontal swipe only". Oh well.
Thanks again!

  • How can I link to an article in different issue?

What is the best way to make a link from article A in issue x to article B in issue y?
Every day we refer to articles published in the past, and it would be great to be able to tap the reference, and get the referred article/folio.

this is not yet documented and subject to change in the future. if you want
to experiment with that, look at the syntax I found out here:

  • Problem viewing portrait dps folio article

I am using InDesign CC to create a dps app. After I downloaded the folio article to my Adobe Content Viewer on my iPad Air, the photo in the portrait is obscured so that only a corner is visible. In landscape, I can see the entire
photo. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for your response. First, I did try the jpeg photo in another
folio article. It was OK in both portrait and landscape. However, in the
meantime, I went back to photoshop and resized the photo from 576x362 px to
724X480px Resolution 72 Resample Bicubic Smoother Enlargement.  I placed it
on the original folio layout I had the problem with and increased the
portrait size to 651x816 px and the landscape size to 896x610 px. Then I
set the opacity to 85% and the blend mode to Luminosity. Precisely all the
steps I took for the problematic folio article. Finally I tested it on the
iPad Air and iPad3. Worked fine in both portrait and landscape on both
devices. My immediate problem is resolved. (Peter, thank you for your
    'House' advice.)

  • Folio : articles orientation issue

i made a folio, nothing really new in it
but when i try to download it today it says "please make sur all articles have the same orientaions properties, then try again"
i wonder why as they all have been made the same way, and how do i track these properties ?
in the folio producer it does not look like i can force it or evne hav access to it (BTW only one article out of 166 is showing completely)
in the folio builder when i go to "article properties" i don't have much more information : when i go all the way right, the article is always set as "landscape" ... but it's all blank
can someone please help me ?
    best regards

yes and i've did it all over again, now it works ... except taht in the preview on the PC, now when i try to see the folio it says that
"L'article "section_1_femme_h" n'est pas compatible avec le lecteur pour lequel le folio est en cours de publication"
    thx to goole it means
The article "section_1_femme_h" is not compatible with the drive for which the portfolio is being published
note that if i delete the article in quesiton, it says then same thing for the article coming just after itc, etc.etc.
it works on the iPad ... and i see everything on the folio producer

  • Working with multiple user accounts on the same folio/article

    Hi,
    i have the follwing issue:
    - User A owns the folio (the one that publsihes it), the folio is shared with user B and C
    - User B is the graphics designer. He does the Artwork
    - Usee C should do the textutal corrections
    Problem:
    - User C cannot access the Articles User B has created
Question: What is the right solution for this kind of problem? Two (or more) people should be able to work on an article using their personal account. The only solution I see at the moment is to create a specific "designer-account" per folio project that all these people share.
    Are there any other options
    cheers
    Thomas

    Thanks for the quick responses.
The sharing of the data is not the problem, in fact, cloud storage can be one of the solutions. But regardless, if people work on different locations or in the same intranet, it can always happen, that designer B goes on holiday and there needs to be done a change on one of the articles inside the folio that B has been working on. It is a pitty, that Designer C cannot take over and do the changes without either having to have user/password of B or "destroying" the folio settings, removing the article completely and re-entering it drom scratch (with all correct settings, namings etc) what makes B having to do the same, as soon as he comes back. This might also have to do with the absolute path references used in folios instead of logical ones (every user can set as "folioroot" on his computer) what also would make the dropbox (or adobe cloud) approach work, as everybody would share the same subfile structure and could "jumpstart" working on the folio.
Nevertheless, thanks for the answeres, things work as they do. I was just wondering if I am doing something wrong.
We will now create shared working users per project, so everybody involved in the project will use that user.

  • InDesign Crashing on folio article update

I am trying to update an article in an already existing folio and InDesign continually crashes at the 'Writing PNG' stage.  I have tried updating to the latest version, restarting, undocking the folio builder, renaming the file and relinking it.  Nothing seems to work.
Is this due to the update that was done yesterday? and is there a work around or hot fix?

I have figured out the issue.  One of my buttons that is set to open a specific state is making the upload crash.
I do not know why but as soon as I delete it the article updates perfect.

  • Navigation bar issues

When I view my publication in the content viewer, some buttons in the navigation bar are having issues.
The back button does not always take me to the last page viewed.
The Table of Contents button does not always take me to the first page of an article. Instead, it takes me to the last page I viewed within that article. Likewise, the browser does not display the first page of every article...if another page was viewed that is the first one displayed.
I have the latest set of tools and have re-installed the content viewer on my iPad.

Thanks Bob...that helps me understand some of what I thought were "issues."
I still am finding that the back button is behaving very erratically. Sometimes it goes back to previously viewed page, other times it's a completely random page.
Also, is there an easy way, when within an article, to go back to the top/first page of article?''
    Thanks again.

  • Podcast navigation UI issues

As has been noted elsewhere, Podcast navigation appears to diverge from the standard interface design with 4G/color iPods - and usability has suffered as a result.
    * Previous/Next buttons do not work as they do with other files. Instead of skipping to the next podcast in the current folder, Next just returns to the top of the main menu. (I understand that this may be related to support for using these controls to skip between index markers within a single file. However, it should be possible to support this new functionality without breaking the old, extremely useful functionality.) When listening to podcasts in the car, this diminishes one of the benefits of podcasts over broadcast: the ability to browse through them in a non-linear fashion, and skip podcasts which fail to be interesting.
    * It is also not possible to continuously play multiple podcasts automatically. Instead, after playing a single podcast, playback stops and the UI returns to the top of the main menu. This is different from behavior with other files, with which the iPod will continue to play until all files within the current folder have been heard. When listening to podcasts in the car, for instance, it means navigating the screen through several menu choices after each podcast - and some podcasts are quite brief, so this may be necessary a number of times during my long-ish commute.
It is unclear what reasons, if any, were the cause of these changes in the standard behavior. Regardless of any reasons, the inconsistent behavior is most certainly unwelcome and inconvenient. I hope that Apple sees fit to rectify these issues.
    - Dan Phillips

Both of our iPods do this. It's pretty irritating. I don't download my podcasts everyday, so sometimes I have 2-3 from a single site. After you play the first one back the iPod goes back to the main menu instead of playing the next podcast from the same site. It'd be nice to see this fixed in the next update.

  • How to navto from one article in an issue (June Issue)  to another article in a different issue (May Issue)?

I need to navto to from one of our articles in the June issue to an article in the May issue. Is this possible? If so what do I put in the URL? navto://folderName…?

Looks like my email didn't go through.  Here's what I sent:
There is an unsupported way of doing this using the URL Scheme specified in DPS App Builder. It's iOS only and works well for free folios, not retail.
    URLscheme://v1/folio/folioname/articlename
Plug in your own values for urlscheme, folioname, and articlename.
See DPS Tips > Advanced Overlays > Advanced Linking for details.

  • How can I "profile" folio articles load time and memory use?

    Hi folks,
I am beating my head against the wall since last week:
How can I figure out a problematic article (one or more), that causes both Content Viewer and custom viewer (.IPA) to crash on load?
The crash report states that "application took too long to start", in some cases it is "jettisoned".
The whole layout has 150+ arcicles, each about 30 pages long in average, with the total size of 705 Mb. We have about 30...40 3D images there, lots of navto links, embedded video/ audio clips - I think we used every MSO type available for iOS viewer.
All articles are of PDF type.
No custom JavaScript code, no HTML tweaking - just a transition from relatively complex inDesign layout.
At some point, while filling the folio with content, the Content Viewer started crashing on load.
We rolled back and startred re-assembling the whole package, checking once 30...60 more articles were added.
Our DTP guy was backing up intermediate results while adding articles, so I have several .IPA of the same layout, one with less than 30 articles, and several subsequent versions (60, 90 articles, etc). The smallest one works great even on 1st iPad - a bit slow (about 5 seconds to render a page when jumping between articles), but no crashes, no jerky pages, zooming and flipping is perfect.
All bigger versions (30+ articles) crash on both iPad1 and iPad3.
Adobe states there is no limitation in the number of articles and pages per article, but it seems to be a limit which we don't know. Or there is something in our design that causes crashes.
    WHAT TO DO???
The idea to start from stratch again, making a backup before adding each article, uploading and testing is not good. It will take weeks, we don't have that much time.
Can there be a "profiling tool" for DPS, similar to what programmers use when the code is unacceptably slow?
Some switches to run the installed custom viewer app from command line, with verbose logging, debugging, whatever???
Is there any way to know, what exactly on our side causes the problems?
    Need help ASAP.
    Regards
    Serge

Mike, I basically have to do the same. The idea to use DPS for something else than glossy magazine or corporate catalog, is my brainchild, and losing hopes feels like euthanazing a pet, to say the least.
With the only exception: I don't see DPS as an inferior product. Rather, it is a raw product, brought to the light before it is really ready, in order (as it is often, if not always, happens in hi-tech industry) to corner the territory before competitors catch up.
As you could see in other threads, there are no books or training courses available yet, and I believe Adobe team is not quite sure what can and cannot be done with DPS. A part of the minefield is Apple iOS, that enforces certain limitations to ensure system stability. And I am sure, there is a lot of other factors in play that we are not aware of, and probably never will be.
The point of saying what's been said is: there is a price to be paid for being on the bleeding edge of technology. This price, other than spending money for expensive equpment, other than investing time into learning and experimenting, is taking the risk of failure. The risk that it will not work out due to reasons beyond your control. So I don't think Adobe is much to blame here, they are playing the same game. Accept the rules or leave...
    Just my 5 cents...

  • Navigation list issue with dynamic variable

    Hi All,
I'm a little bit stock with (maybe) a little issue. I'm looking for a way to put variable on a navigation list in the same page. E.X. there is where my navigation list is pointing : f?p=&APP_ID.:20:&SESSION.::&DEBUG.::P20_3,P20_1,P20_2:#État#,#Année Comptable#,#Période Comptable#: .
I Need to inherit the value ( #État#,#Année Comptable#,#Période Comptable#:) from a sql query from the main region (list are in a subregion ).
Could some one help me with that please ?
    Thanks in advance !!
    Eric

Hmm.. on the last APEX SIG day in Belgium Oracle was very dark about that (as usual).
They even were not sure what features would definitely be present in the new version.
They did however expect it to be somewhere in october / november
again. you can mimic by using a report-region looking like a list

  • Navigational attribute issue in query

    Hi gurus,
Here is a very tricky issue that I am facing. If anyone could please help me with a workaround for the same.
I have an infoObject called ZDIV_CUS which is basically 0CUSTOMER with 0DIVISION compounded to it. Hence, when I load data into ZDIV_CUS, I would have one record for a unique combination of customer and division. In functional words, I would have one customer maintained for multiple divisions. ZDIV_CUS also has other navigational attributes as 0SALES_OFF, 0SALES_DIST & 0SALES_GRP. Also, I have 0MATERIAL, which has 0DIVISION as a navigational attribute in my cube.
Hence the master data for ZDIV_CUS looks as follows -
    0DIVISION    0CUSTOMER    0SALES_OFF    0SALES_GRP    0SALES_DIST
    01           100000       L001          L01           L010100
    02           100000       L005          L08           L020150
    01           100001       L001          L01           L050150
    03           100001       L005          L02           L052542
The transactional data in my cube is as follows -
    0MATERIAL    0CUSTOMER    0DIVISION    0SALES_OFF   0NET_SALES   0MATERIAL_DIVISION (Material master div)
    102152          100000       01           L002         110000       02
    102545          100001       02           L002         12000000     02
The above data is all transactional except for 0MATERIAL_DIVISION which comes from material division.
My query is built in such a way that the division comes from 0MATERIAL (restricted to variable in the selection screen). ZDIV_CUS and its navigational attributes are being used in my query. The initial display is shown as per ZDIV_CUS_0SALES_OFF (i.e. sales office from ZDIV_CUS)
The problem is that say for eg for the above mentioned scenario, the user executes the query for division 01 and the below mentioned output comes up -
    0MATERIAL_DIVISION     ZDIV_CUS    0MATERIAL    ZDIV_CUS_0SALES_OFF     0NET_SALES
    02                     100000      102152       L001                    110000
If we take a closer look, we would know that ZDIV_CUS_0SALES_OFF should pick up value L005 and not L001 since the division for which the query is run is 0MATERIAL_DIVISION and not 0DIVISION.
Request help to resolve the abovementioned issue.
    Thank you,
    Sree

Can any one answer for Issue-2. Even I am also facing the same.
    Thanks in Advance.

  • Folio article file size increases massively with more buttons

    Hello,
we are about to finish up a DPS project and now have some serious problems with the folio sizes.
We did all the usual things to make folios smaller (cropped every image to the trimmed size, pdf articles, vektor overlays etc.)
So we made some tests and discovered a really strange behavior:
We have one single article with a fullscreen MSO containing 7 picture status, and seven buttons (with the same pictures as thumbnails) that lead to the appropriate statuses.
First we tried to experiment deleting images from the MSO but this had no effect on the file size. But as we deleted the seven buttons the file size changed from 10MB to 52MB!
The size of all the assets (images and ID file) from this article is only 12 MB.
Is this a known bug? Is there a way around it? It is some kind of crazy when an uploaded folio has 4 times the size as all his assets?!?!
    Thanks in advance,
    nils

    Hi Bob,
    sorry for my late reply.
I have done some additional testing and came to the conclusion that no button is responsible for the big file sizes.
It was the overlay setting after all (sorry for pointing in the wrong direction). As I switched the slideshow from "Raster" to "Vector" the file size decreased plenty. (I thougt I checked this but actually I did it only in vertical articles.)
However I did not know that the export format has such an impact on file size. This one article decreased from 52 MB to 17 MB. And it was only one slideshow with 7 (retina) images inside.
Changing all the slideshows in our 50 article folio (about 35) decreased the file size from 576 MB to 243 MB!
    Thanks,
    nils

  • Folio Builder Sign-In Issues (yes, I know I'm the 1,000th person to post this!)

I'm about to go insane... I can't sign into the Folio Builder panel in InDesign CC (v9.1 x64).  I must have been asked 12 times today to sign into CC, and accept the license agreement another 6 times.
I was signed into the Folio Builder panel most of the day with no issues, but now it won't let me.  I get the sign in dialog, but when I enter my credentials, the dialog just goes away and nothing happens!
This isn't the issue where deleting the OOBE folder solves it (I tried that just to see, anyway).  I had this happen last week and had to delete InDesign and completely reinstall it before I could sign in again.  Just for the record, I only have CC programs installed, no other CS versions of anything...  and I'm on a Windows 7 machine.
I'M GETTING SICK OF INSTALLING INDESIGN CC OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!  Sorry, just a bit frustrated...
Is there any simple, long-term fix for this??
    Help!!

I'm not signing into another Adobe account, I'm signing into another Windows account on my Windows 7 machine.  So, I don't lose any folios, etc, as I'm still using the same Adobe ID to sign in.
I was having issues staying signed into Creative Cloud a while back as well, and I used the "create a new admin account" trick to solve my folio builder issues as well.  See the post here:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/5651099#5651099  The Adobe person provides links to creating new admin accounts for Mac and Windows users.  Follow the instructions, and try this route if uninstalling and reinstalling InDesign didnt' work.
Also, just as a side note, I have been using the folio builder panel yesterday and today without any issues... so if you can't sign in, then it "probably" isn't a widespread issue.  I know that doesn't make you feel any better, but I'm hoping this is a localized issue that Adobe can pinpoint and provide an accurate, repeatable solution for!

  • Sharepoint 2013 Datasheet View Navigation performance Issues on large lists

I was recently upgraded to SharePoint 2013.
In SharePoint 2010 Datasheet View, one could scroll through and bulk select 100s of line items in Datasheet view very easily.   Navigating the datasheet view was just like navigating through a worksheet in Excel, and one could use quick select
keys like ctrl-shift-right arrow / down arrow to bulk select items.
After the upgrade to SharePoint 2013, using the "Quick Edit" tab in Datasheet view and changing the Item Limit to 5000 items, it takes an inordinately long time to load the list.   None of the quick select keys like ctrl-shift-right arrow
works anymore and the browser keeps warning about a slow-running script when attempting to select multiple items while scrolling through the list.
The functionality I need is for users to be able to bulk delete all line items in a SP list and copy (from Excel) and paste new line items into the SP list through their browser.

I am running SP Server 2013 with the Dec CU on my internal farm.  This past week, I migrated 1 database containing 1 site collection (also ran the site upgrade to 2013).  Prior to the migration, the users were using Datasheet View in 2010 to bulk
edit and also add attachments through the pop up window while in Datasheet View.  After the migration, performance on their list using IE8 with less than 300 items was horrible for the end user and also for me as a farm admin (I'm running iE11).
I created a new view and performance seemed better for me and a slight improvement for the end user, but still not satisfying.  The end user is using Chrome in the interim until I can test with IE9 to see if that makes a difference.
My main concern is the Quick Edit view.  This user needs to be able to use the 2010 Datasheet View to manage attachments while in DS view.  I created a new DS view on the affected list, but it still defaults back to the Quick Edit view.  This
list is on 1 of 3 web apps in my internal farm.  The interesting thing is that I can create a 2010 Datasheet View in a custom list on a site that was created in 2013 from scratch in another web app on my internal farm.  However, I can only do
this on 1 of 3 web apps.  On my 2013 external farm, I can create a DS view in a 2013 site created from scratch in 1 of 2 web apps.  Creating a list on the 2nd web app in DS view defaults the list back to Quick Edit.  I checked in SharePoint
Manager thinking there was a web app feature that wasn't getting activated.  There was only 1 web app feature that jumped out.  Academic Library Site Safe Controls was activated on the 2 web apps I could create the 2010 Datasheet View on, but
not the other 3 web apps I could only seem to get the Quick Edit view when creating the DS view.
Is there a feature that needs to get activated or one that might need to be deactivated/reactivated?  My internal farm with the 3 web apps is running the Dec 2013 CU and the external farm w/the 2 web apps is running the March 2013
    PU.
Aside from that, I've received complaints on the list performance using IE and not being able to use the 2010 datasheet functionality as noted above.  I haven't received any complaints on being able to only copy 100 items in Quick Edit view at a time,
but I have also noticed that issue.  In my case, the retry doesn't work and I have to delete anything over 100 items before it will save.  I would like to find a resolution on this as well.  Every bit of help I can get with this issue is very
    much appreciated.  Thanks in advance!
