Font command fails on solaris
I have a program which runs fine under Windows but fails in Solaris when it gets to the line
font=new Font(null,FONT.plain,current_font_size);
(I have tried SansSerif and Lucida in place of null.
It is being run from a shell script as a batch process on the server. I have to access fonts to work out size of text objects - I presume my problem is to do with X11 - any advice.
Hi,
Can you provide the error you get?
I guess you do need an X Window System ( http://www.xfree86.org ).
If you already have one, try setting the environment variable DISPLAY as follows:
- log on as root
- for sh ksh:
set DISPLAY=localhost:1.0
export DISPLAY
- or for csh:
setenv DISPLAY=localhost:1.0
If this doesn't work, try replacing 1.0 with 0.0
Regards,
Kurt.

"error: command failed to execute correctly" on several packages
Last night, when I updated before shutting down, I got a few errors, as in the subject. As it was very late, I thought I'd pick it up today.
Unfortunately, the pacman log only lists one of the ones that failed as libgpg-error. The other one that I remember erroring was gawk. There were a few others, maybe four or five, but I couln't reliably recall them all, so won't guess.
Here's a new attempt to reinstall gawk with --debug. I did the same with libgpg-error and the error occurred at the same place, with very similar output, so I think the issue is the same for all failures.

pacman thinks the upgrade/reinstall was successful in that the latest version is installed.
I did a search on the forums and the only other issue that I thought was connected might be microcode not up to date, but I had followed the update instructions some time back and as far as I can tell, the microcode is up to date.
I have two main questions:
1) How do I work out what's causing the error, from above?
2) Is there a way I can work out which packages gave the error, so I can make sure they're installed properly?
Thanks. The following packages also had problems
( 2/17) upgrading glibc
error: command failed to execute correctly
( 3/17) upgrading binutils
error: command failed to execute correctly
( 4/17) upgrading coreutils
error: command failed to execute correctly
( 8/17) upgrading gcc
error: command failed to execute correctly
( 9/17) upgrading gcc-fortran

(10/17) upgrading gcc-libs

Does anybody have a clue?

Error while compiling BerkeleyDB: Command failed for target `util_sig.lo'
Hi,
While trying to compile BerkeleyDB on Solaris 10 x86 ( is there an easier way to get BerkeleyDB running than compiling from source? ) I was confronted with the error message appended.
I used Berkeley 4.4.20 and configured by executing

PS:
I need the LDAP server for playing with a JAAS LDAP login module and something minimal would be enough. Is there something easier to install than OpenLDAP?I fail to understand why you're taking all this trouble. Both the Berkeley DB as OpenLDAP are both shipped with Solaris 10/x86 natively. Look into the so called companion cd / dvd. That makes setting all of this up a piece of cake.
Another option could be looking into Blastwave or Sun Freeware. -
9.2.0.3 patch set installation fails on Solaris 8
i've installed Oracle9iR2 (64-bit) client on a Solaris 8 system and i'm now having problems installing the 9.2.0.3 patch set. during the installation process i get the following error message from OUI:
Error in invoking target install of makefile
$ORACLE_HOME/network/lib/ins_net_client.mk
i checked the installation log and then $ORACLE_HOME/install/make.log. make.log reports that the failing command is:
/usr/ccs/bin/make -f ins_net_client.mk install ORACLE_HOME=/opt/oracle9i/u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0
this command fails when trying to link trcroute. the link command seems to have incorrect paths as it seems to expect to find crt?.o files from $ORACLE_HOME/lib/WS6U1 while they are located in $ORACLE_HOME/lib/WS6U2/lib/v9. i modified $ORACLE_HOME/network/lib/env_network.mk (CCVER, COMPOBJ) so that crt?.o can be found.
after this change the same link command fails with this message:
ld: fatal: file $ORACLE_HOME/network/lib/s0nur.o:
wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32
ld: fatal: File processing errors. No output written to trcroute
*** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `trcroute'
i checked the object files in network/lib and they all seem to be ELF 32-bit.
does someone know what's causing these problems with the installation and how to fix it?
best regards,
aspathat's what i started to suspect as well. it's quite likely that the patch is for 32-bit installations. i'll try it with the 64-bit patch. thanks.

SSL/TLS clients binds fail to Solaris 10 06/06 DS5.2p4 Server
hello all,
this is a bizarre issue that i think is related to the solaris version that is running on the directory server, at least this appears to the the issue. i have 2 SunDS servers running solaris 10 06/06 and the other solaris 10 01/06 with DS5.2p4. both have SSL enabled, the certs i signed with my own CA which i maintain with tinyca2. the directory starts fine and is listening on both 389(ldap) and 636(ldaps). i am able to successfully bind to both servers on the non-secure ports fine, commands like getent, finger, id are pulling the people from the directory. when i enable the clients to use ssl/tls those same commands fail against the solaris 10 06/06 machine but NOT the solaris 10 01/06 server. on the linux machines i'm getting "nscd: pam_ldap: could not search LDAP server" errors and on the solaris machines "Mesg: openConnection: failed to initialize TLS security" and "libsldap: Status: 7 Mesg: Session error no available conn."
using "ldapsearch -x -ZZ" from the clients is successful to both systems, and i can use "openssl s_client" to view the certs fine. another bizzare occurance is when i do "getent passwd" i see the local and ldap users but "getent passwd ldap_user" will return nothing. again this are against the solaris 10 06/06 machine.
has anyone see this before? i'm going to open a service request for sun on this but i wanted to see if anyone else has run into this.there was a problem with the certificate db which was causing this.

Oracle 10gR2 installation fails in Solaris 10
Hi All,
I am facing the following problem in Solaris 10 SPARC 64 bit machine.
1. Downloaded Oracle 10g R2 installable from oracle
2. Created user oracle and group dba and modified project settings and permissions as per quick installation guide
3. Installation of software is successful. But dbca fails with following error message.
ORA-19624: operation failed, retry possible
ORA-19870: error reading backup piece /vol1/ora10gr2/product/10.2.0/Db_1/assistants/dbca/templates/Seed_Database.dfb
ORA-19587: error occurred at reading 0 bytes at block number 1
ORA-27091: unable to queue I/O
ORA-27067: size of I/O buffer is invalid
4. I also tried creating scripts using dbca and running it manually. It fails with following error message in trace file
Corrupt block 1 found during reading backup piece, file=/ora10gr2/ora10gr2/product/10.2.0/Db_1/assistants/dbca/templates/Seed_
Database.dfb, corr_type=3
5. Creation of custom database also fails with similar error message
It is Solaris 10 (Solaris 10 11/06 s10s_u3wos_10 SPARC) machine with patch level 125100-05 .
I know this question has to be posted in Oracle forums. But I could not see others facing this issue in oracle forums. If anybody has faced this issue please let me know.
Thanks!Yes, I was trying to install Oracle for Solaris sparc 64 bit.
again I reformatted the system with Solaris 10 8/07 release but I am getting the same error. Machine model is v480. even i tried to create a database manually, CREATE DATABASE command fails with the same error

BPM process archiving "Processing of archiving write command failed"
Can someone help me with the following problem. After archiving a BPM proces, I get the following messages (summary):

I don't have a specific answer sorry, however I do recall seeing a number of OSS notes around BPM archiving whilst searching for a different issue last year - have you checked on there for anything relevant to your currnet version and SP level? There were quite a few notes if memory serves me well!

Errors in CCDB Stores - Extractor CONFIGURATION (OS COMMAND) failed
Hi Everyone,
We have Solution Manager 7.1 system on our customer landscape. Technical Monitoring scenario is configured on it. As I check the alert inbox on a regular basis, I find the below error quite frequently:
Errors in CCDB Stores - Extractor CONFIGURATION (OS COMMAND) failed with below error log:
"Exception while retrieving E2EStore - Failed to open HW file."
Can anyone let me know why is this error getting generated and how this can be resolved permanently.
Thanks.
Regards,
NidhiHi Nidhi,
Can you try restarting the SAPHOSTAGENT saphostexec -restart
Check its status saphostexec -status
Check its version saphostexec -version
You should have the latest version applied if possible.
The main fix is in saphostagent package, however also disp+work
processes use the access to saposcol and should be
updated as well via the kernel update.
Kind regards,

Hi!
We have 5 Exchange 2013 servers and when I’m trying to run a script that includes the cmd-let Get-MessageTrackinglog with StartDate = the first of the month and with EndDate = the end of the month I get the following error message after
a couple of hours. The script is run on the server SERVER01 and goes through the Message Tracking logs of all Exchange servers. I have tried the script on other servers and get the same result.
Processing data for a remote command failed with the following error message: Error occurred during the Kerberos reponse.
[Server=SERVER01, TimeStamp = 918/2014 19:32:34]
For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic.
+ CategoryInfo
: OperationStopped: (server01.domain.com:String) [], PSRemotingTransportException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : JobFailure
+ PSComputerName
: server01.domain.com
I have gone through “about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic”, but can’t find anything related to my issue. There is nothing in the Application or the Windows PowerShell log either.
/HenrikHi Henado
Check the time on your Exchange server(s) relative to the DCs and ensure they are in correct sync
Use another account which is assigned the Organization Management permission and log to to the server run the command in shell and see the results
Run
Add-PSSnapin -Name Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.E2010
Set-Adserversettings -ViewEntireForest $True and then run message tracking command and see the results
If none of the above helps you may need to remove and re-install the WinRM and see the results
Good Luck :)

Command equal to Solaris devfsadm in linux
I attached a tape drive to sun fire x4170m3 server having operating system OEL5.8, need to add the driver to the kernel as we do in solaris devfsadm -c tape,,
I would like to ask if someone know about any equal command to the solaris devfsadm so I can add driver module to the Linux kernel without rebooting the Server.
Thanks in Advance...
Owais Hyder. To load and unload drivers in linux, you want to use the modprobe command. Chances are the scsi card (or fibre), is already loaded. You need to just load the scsi tape driver (st).
# modprobe st
You can check what scsi devices appear with:
# cat /proc/scsi/scsi
If the tape drive is not listed, then you may need to load additional drivers for the scsi card. In some cases, you may need to rescan the scsi bus. There are a couple of ways to do this. First see if the schell script rescan-scsi-bus.sh exists on the system. If not, just google around for rescanning the scsi bus.
Good luck

Does "top" command work in Solaris?
Does "top" command work in solaris?
# uname -a
SunOS rac1 5.10 Generic_120012-14 i86pc i386 i86pc
# top
top: not found
Edited by: user11936985 on Aug 29, 2011 8:44 AMTop has two sections, the summary information at the top of the screen which gives load averages, process counts, etc. and a bottom section which lists the "top processes". The prstat command standard report is similar to the bottom section of top. So if that is what you need, then prstat is an adequate substitute. It doesn't report the information in top's summary section. On the other hand, prstat is actually a much more powerful tool than top, especially is you use some of the other options. For example, "prstat -a" gives you the "top process" report plus a summary report of usage by user. If you use "prstat -J" you get a top process report with a summary by project and "prstat -Z" gives a top process report with a summary by zone. You can use options like -v or -m to get more information on each process in the "top process" section. There are other options mentioned in the manual page.
Top works and works well on Solaris. You can get a copy form sunfreeware and probably other sources as well. It doesn't come from Oracle with Solaris 10 (but does come with Solaris 11). If you're a Linux shop you might want it because it is familiar. However, you may want to look at prstat as well because it can provide some useful information that top does not. -
Ddi_regs_map_setup fails in solaris 11
Hi
I have a driver (parent=isa) in x86 that ioremaps (ddi_regs_map_setup) a physical address range between 0xE0000 and 0xF0000.
This is a device memory mapped region.
The ddi_regs_map_setup was successful in solaris 10 (32 bit and 64 bit) but fails in solaris 11.
The warning message
WARNING: isa_apply_range: Out of range base <base> size <size>
The ddi_regs_map_setup goes through for the same region if driver made as parent=pci instead of parent=isa.
Would be helpful if someone could point out why this happens in solaris 11?
cheerseach of the registers covers an area of pci bus address space supplied by the card
why don't you print out the return value from ddi_dev_regsize() as that will tell you
how much space the card is exporting for each of the registers .

Ldif2db command fails to import data and deletes the root node
ldif2db command fails to import data into LDAP.
The command used was
ldif2db -n userRoot -s "dc=example,dc=com" -i test.ldif
The test.ldif conains the nodes under dc=example,dc-com
eg: ou=test,dc=example,dc=com
But on executing the command the root node "dc=example,dc=com" itself got deleted. The console output was like "Skipping entry uid=test001,ou=test,dc=example,dc=com" for all the entries present in ldif.
What might be the reason for this ? Any clues ?
The reason y i am trying to do this ldif2db is to preserve the createtimestamp and modifytimestamp while migrating data from one Directory Server to another. Any other ways of doing it ?ldif2db is the right command to migrate data and preserve those attributes like createtimestamp and modifytimestamp.
However, when this command is used, it will first remove everthing before it load whatever you want. So you need to be very careful. I got this terrible problem as well.
In my experience, if you use this command, don't use "-s". You can just use:
ldif2db -n suffixName -i test.ldif
If you only have one suffix (database), then you can use "-n userRoot".
Also, if you migrate your data from server A to server B, you'd better dump the data using db2ldif -n userRoot -a test.ldif from server A. Then load it into server B using ldif2db -n userRoot -i test.ldif.
