Footage is flickering/jumping

Hi, I have encoded from FCP5.0.3 into DVDSP 4 and the footage is flickering and jumping. Other DVD's built in the same way don't do this, can anyone please advise? Thanks for your time in advance
G5 - 2.5 GHz - 4Gig Ram - 1200 HD   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

My question wasn't with deinterlacing in mind, it would be a shame to do that. The later DVD Player (4.6 and later) have a deinterlace menu item. I think the earlier player may have done that by default. Had you been able to turn deinterlacing off we could have found out if the flicker is a player problem or a data problem.
If you weren't working in PAL I would have been asking about the resolution of your source video, because a lot of source video is 720x486, and taking that via 720x480 could lead to field dominance issues, which shows as dramtic twitching on TV, and noticeable weirdness on a computer.
As far as I know all the regular PAL video sizes are 720x576, so I don't know if it's so easy to get the fields messed up. But that's still what I think the problem is going to be.
Can you remember making any field dominance selections anywhere?

  • 24p footage (GH4) flickering lights

    Hi guys and non-guys,
So i recently bought the Panasonic GH4. Loving it! So i was up for some testing.
I filmed everything in 4k: 24p (with the system freq. on 24.00Hz). So i imported everything in Premiere, created a 24p sequence with an 1080p resolution and did some quick editing.
Exported the sequence with h264 codec and tried it with 25fps and 29fps. Both video's are getting light flickers after the export.
I'm not seeing those lights flicker on either the camera or when previewing in Premiere. Here is the test video i made, you can see the flickering in some shots: GH4 4k to 1080p
Is there anything i'm forgetting? While filming? I shot on a shutter with 1/25 if i'm correct (with f 2.8).
Hope you lads could help me out, as i Google'd the whole internet for an answer.
    Thanks in advance!
    Leroy

Ok ... first there's a list of info to provide when asking questions ....OS, RAM, video card w/vRAM & driver, maybe disc layout; footage codec (which you did list,  thanksl) and specific to the dot versions of software and any 3rd party plugins or converters used.
Next ... all of this footage was indoors and seemed to involve electric lighting. There can be major problems with flicker with the frequency depending on the type of light and the regions AC frequency. Have you tried some outdoor footage and is the flicker gone?
If you go outside & are flicker-free, then it's a shutter speed issue. If not, you've got something happening in ProPro. Question: did you set the footage specs for the sequence befor putting a clip on it, or do the more common & easier method of just creating a new sequence without touching settings, then drag a clip onto it? In your case you would then tell PrPro to interpret as 1080p I think.

Haven't upgraded anything in a while since I've been too low on money lately, but it's still good enough for gaming  Next thing on my list is a new video card since this one's whacking out, but I'd still like to try to fix it before I get the new one.  For a couple months now I've been having problems like others here have reported with flickering and ripping in polygons, and even jumping around.  This only happens in 3d games, but it even happens with some of the 2d images, like backgrounds and loading screens (*could* still be polygons, but I'm not sure).  This was most noticeable with Warcraft 3 which I've been playing for a while.  Their tech support told me to run the game in openGL mode, which actually worked.  That's why I haven't bothered trying to fix it, although now I'm trying to play Final Fantasy XI and it's having the same problems.  VSync is set to on by default, I'm pretty sure that it's not overheating since I get the problems even after startup, and I'm going to go through Memtest to check that.  Are there any suggestions to what it could be?  Or should I just live with it until I get a new card?
    Thanks,
    Dan

Well, I just ran 3dMark 2001 SE and got a 2236... maybe it is just time for me to upgrade

  • Lumia 720 Screen Flickering/Jumping

About a month ago, my lumia 720 was suddenly started flickering. I tried all the possible ways to fix it including
    1. Soft Reset
    2. Hard Reset
    3. Make touch sensitivity to normal.
    4. Auto adjust brightness off. etc
None of them worked at all. Then Finally after 3 days of suffering, I got an idea. I removed the screen protector and then I realized the problem got solved. I was very happy.
But after a Month now the problem came back. Its now even more serious. I tried all the steps previously did and all failed.
Isn't there any possible solution except going to Nokia Care? Because the problem does not occur all time.. so even if i go to nokia care, i may not be abble to show them the problem.. Plz Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi, PelicanPils.
The Nokia Software Recovery Tool is only compatible with Windows 7 OS or newer. Are you able to use it?
Your phone has one year manufacturer's limited warranty. After 12 months, you will be charged for any repairs from any Nokia Care Point. It is your discretion if you will continue with the repair process or not. To know more about the Nokia Manufacturer's Limited Warranty, see this: http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/guides/WC_B9229743_EN_1.pdf.
If possible, you can also visit a different Nokia Care Point for a second opinion. To locate one: http://www.nokia.com/in-en/store-locator/.

  • HELP: Photoshop Button Hover Rollover State Flickers (jumps) Upon First Preview

All photoshop buttons flicker (jump abruptly) before the rollover state is displayed in preview mode and in browser for the 1st time. After that the behavior is normal. The rollover and hover image displays without a flicker. Why all the graphics not preloaded to prevent this mega-annoying issue? Is there a work around?
I tried INSERT HTML option as an alternative to photoshop buttons using the following code, since it works flawlessly on other web building programs,  but it doesn't even work in Adobe Muse. I am stock and don't know how to work around this issue.
    <a href='Destination URL' target="_top" onmouseover="document.sub_but.src='http://yourdomain.com/onroll.jpg'" onmouseout="document.sub_but.src='http://yourdomain.com/normal.jpg'">
    <img src="http://yourdomain.com/normal.jpg" width="281" height="55" border="0" alt="Move your mouse over me" name="sub_but">
    </a>
I love the convenience of photoshop button but the results are truely unprofessional on first loading. Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Do you have a URL to a site using Photoshop buttons placed in Muse? My guess is that the images are very large and taking some time to load initially.

  • How to patch around bad footage in Encore 2.0

I've been using Encore 1.5 for about 8 months, and have been evaluating the new 2.0 product for about a week. Overall it's much, much better than 1.5.
Today, while locating the chapter points in Encore 2.0, I discovered that one of the transitions created in After Effects had somehow gotten mangled. After thinking about it for a few seconds, I realized that I might be able to substitute new footage by re-rendering the Composition in After Effects, importing it directly into Encore, and putting it at the end of the timeline. This "trick" saved at least two hours of rendering time!
Here's a picture to better understand my layout.
    Chapter 3
    good footage
end action -> jump to chapter 4_patch
    Chapter 4
    bad footage
    Chapter 4_after bad_footage
    good footage
    (more chapters)
    Last Chapter
    good footage
end action -> jump to root menu
    Chapter 4_patch
    replacement footage
end action -> jump to Chapter 4_after_bad footage
The chapter 4 button on the menu is linked to Chapter 4_patch, and the original Chapter 4 marker serves as the ending for Chapter 3.
The only downside of this is that Encore reports that the end action set on the timeline will never be executed. Thanks Adobe, for the much improved code.
    --Skip

    Hi Skip,
Yes, if the last chapter has an end action and the timeline has an end action, the chapter end action wins. Not a downside, really, but the expectation that if you set a chapter end action, you want it to execute.
If you didn't set a chapter end action, then select your last chapter and examine it in Chapter properties. You can clear it from there.

  • Flash Player flickering

Help, after a recent flash player update (most recent 10.2 45) I have encountered problems. I can play videos, no issues there.
The problem is any time I enter a website with pop up streams, the pop ups start flashing, flickering, jumping, jittering. It is driving me crazy !
It also does all of the above when scrolling up or down the page. It does this with either the mouse or up & down on the keyboard.
If the page has a lot of pop up videos, computer will freeze up. I have removed flash player (using adobe downloaded uninstaller) and reinstalled player many times. Have even removed latest player and installed flash player 9. It does the same !
I use IE8, Google tool bar, Vista Home Premium 64, but have had the player on the 32 bit system. Use AVG 9,O, Spybot S&D, and CC CLEANER.
Manage add ons- Java (TM) Plug in 2 S, Shockwave Flash OB , Adobe PDF LINK HEI, all enabled.
Hope this info helps you to help me because this is really aggravating.  Of course it does none of these things when the flash player is removed.
    Thank You

Hi, There are several things that may involved here. I'll list what might be. I am familiar with AVG and their many components. I don't know if Spybot is still an Anti-Spyware with the Tea Timer or do you know if they have added an Anti-Virus feature? More than one Anti-Virus causes conflicts. AVG has Link Scanner which is composed of 2 features and does cause issues with many users. I'm not suggesting you do anything yet, just going over what could be causing conflicts.
Does the AVG version you use have a Firewall? If not, do you use any third party Firewall other than Windows Firewall?
The pop up is partly due to Vista and IE8, we'll get to that.
In your post#1 you said Shockwave Flash Object was there and enabled. In post#3 you said it is not even there now.
Did you Uninstall/Install between the two postings?
So we have a good starting point, if you remember how to find the Flash folder, go there and post back the files now listed.
Also in manage add ons (ALL add ons) check for the Shockwave Flash Object and this time if it is there, note the version number if listed and/or Flash10e.ocx(this indicates version 10.0.45.2) I need that info also.
When you Uninstalled and Installed did you use the offline of each?
After you reply to this I will get back to you, but a little later. (Dinner/Supper:-)
    Thanks,

  • Multi-camera real-time editing skips the main video window ahead about a minute since update.

I'm working on a 2-camera edit, which I've done numerous multi-camera edits on this machine before with no problem, but now when I am playing back the footage with the multi-camera window and select the other camera, the footage in the main window (the one that shows the footage going on the timeline) jumps ahead about a minute.  It doesn't matter which camera is choosen, it causes either to jump ahead about a minute in that main window making it almost impossible to edit.
The footage doesn't jump ahead in the smaller, individual camera windows on the left, just the main window.  I'm not 100% sure, but I believe this problem just started occuring since the most recent update to Premiere Pro CC.  I installed that update last night and wasn't having this problem prior to that.
How can I remove the most recent update to test this theory?
    Specs:
    Premiere Pro CC 7.2.0 (46)
    Win 7 64-bit
    2x NVidia GTX 560 Ti
    16GB RAM
    120GB SSD (OS)
    2TB RAID 0 (Storage)

    Kendall,
Great video showing exactly what you're experiencing.  Thanks!  Wow, something definitely seems severely wrong when nothing has changed on your machine except the version of PPr.  Just a couple random thoughts (that probably won't make a difference):
    1. Are you using Multi-cam Clips (i.e. created the way most Adobe tutorials teach you to create them), or are you using a Nested Sequence with Multi-cam Enabled (i.e. the way most on this forum would recommend)?
    2. Does life get better when you exit Dropbox completely (or if you uninstall it)?
    3. Do you have other items, like Dropbox, running?  Close them all?
    4. Does the same thing happen with different kinds of footage formats?
    5. What version of Anti-virus?  Try turning it completely off?
Again, you've probably considered the last two, but if not, it's the first thing I might try.
For what it's worth, I'm running CC 7.1 on Windows 7 64-bit and I'm not experiencing this issue.  Not that it's ideal, but I performed the same test you show above while I was running Microsoft Outlook (a few emails open and 3 reminders), Chrome (about 15 instances with 2 or 3 tabs each).  Also, background programs running:  Microsoft OneNote (desktop version), Bluetooth and WiFi running, Spyder3 monitor calibration utility, CineForm Status viewer (a constantly running service of GoPro Studio) and Webroot Secure Anywhere.  Even under these quick and dirty testing conditions, multi-cam is working great for me in 7.1 (I use Nested Sequences; not Multicam-clips).  I had a real problem back in July/August that may have been brought about by using Multi-cam clips.  I switched to using Nested Sequences, instead, and I haven't had that type of issue since.
I hope there is something helpful for you in all of that.
    Best luck!

  • W530 Display Problem

Newb here.  I just purchased a W530 running Windows 7 and it appears to have a defective display which flashes/flickers/jumps, etc. and is unstable.  This happens randomly but is becoming more frequent after a week of use.  I can't seem to find the right channels to pursue warranty repair/replacement.  Any suggestions are welcome.  Thank you.

    Hi quasimodo,
Sorry to hear that your W530 has problems right out of the box. There are probably issues related to the display itself, display cables, or graphics chips. Also, what do you mean by not being able to find the correct channels for warranty? The phone number for customer support for Thinkpads is 1-800-426-7378. Make sure to have your serial # and model information with you (they are located in the BIOS page of the laptop, and on the box the laptop shipped in).

  • Premiere keeps crashing after installing BCC Continuum Complete

    Hi,
I just downloaded and installed the BCC Continuum Complete plug-in for Adobe and I need to use one of it`s effects on my footage - BCC Flickering Fixer. When I attempt to apply the effect, everything works at first, but then:
    a) Premiere crashes after a minute or two
    b) Premiere (or AME) crash when I try to export the footage, somewhat in the middle of the process.
Interesting part is that I did export two videos with the effect applied, after that programs just stopped working.
If I export the video without BCC effects, everything works just fine.
I would more than appreciate any suggestions about what might be wrong. Might it be my computer just too slow for such a complicated effect?
Technical specifications of the comp and system I am using:
    OS X: Mavericks, Version 10.9
    processor: 2.6GHz Intel Core i7
    memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Thank you in advance.
    Best,
    Alina

    Alina,
Check to see if Boris has new versions of their plug-ins for OS X 10.9 Mavericks. I have the same setup as you with no issues, except for Mavericks. Hope that helps.

  • Still image quality poor, Help

I posted a similar question last night. This one is more of the same.
Issue: Poor image quality (flickering, Jumping) when viewing stills on my TV only...
I have made 2 test videos. One was made in FCE and one in iMovie8. Both are identical and consist of only 5 still pictures. I added motion to a couple of pics in each test. The video from iMovie looks great on my TV. The video fro FCE looks very poor. The image is jumpy and flickering.
Why does the same movie movie look different depending on the source? What is different? Do I have something set up incorrectly in FCE?
I tried applying the De-interlacing filter and the Flicker filter. I tried all variants of the De-interlace filter, ie odd/even. I have made several exports from FCE trying to get rid of the flicker/jumpy-ness to no avail.....Even the still pics that have no movement flicker a bit from FCE, for example, one of the pictures are of my son holding a dark green fishing rod while standing in a tent. The picture has no movement but the fishing rod and tent poles are flickering, almost like there are lights in them blinking on and off. A similar picture that has movement shows the fishing rod as alternating dark and light lines instead of just a dark green rod. The same pics from the iMovie clip look great. The color is correct and no flickering at all.
To export from FCE I am using Quick Time Movie. From iMovie 8, I am using 'Export Movie' high quality. On each video I then just dropped them into iDVD and viewed on my TV.
I am a new user to FCE and so far I like it much better than iMovie 6 or 8. I have a hard time believing that the still picture quality output form FCE is worse than iMovie. So I must be doing something wrong.
Thank you in advanced for help,
    Toshiro

Well I can only assume that there is a difference in the way the data is handled between the 2 apps. I have resolved my issue by not compressing the data while exporting. Unfortunately, my 3 minute video is 7G !!...oh well
...now if I could just get rid of the thin green line at the bottom of the screen during my opening segment it would be great....
Thanks for taking the time to assist

  • Wacom Intuos4 unworkable

So I have the Wacom Intuos4 pen tablet and when I try to grade my footage the sliders jumps around like crazy, there isn't anything near accuracy and it's in all essence unworkable.
Is there some input option like in DaVinci Resolve to enable a pen tablet instead of having the program act like the tablet is a mouse? This is not the same issue as the one where you have to unable Wacom Mouse in the windows settings.
Is there a solution or do I have to pronounce SpeedGrade DOA?

A trackball is indeed a rather nice option for using SpeedGrade: all color wheels and all sliders will turn into what we call the virtuall trackball if you right click them.
Once you do, just use the ball to move sliders or color wheels (chroma). To change the luma on a color wheel, activate virtual trackball, then use the ring around the ball to change the luma.
Not exactly a full blown control surface, but a really nice way to get more control over all color tools inside SpeedGrade (and a relieve to your muscles).

  • Simple animation choppy in CS3

i'd love to include my fla but i don't know how... any
    suggestions?
    thanks!

Well, for what it is worth - this may not be a case of a
difference in versions - i have been using
    8 and CS3 and there's no difference in performance - CS3 is
    very stable.
It looks like your bitmap is pretty processor intensive - you

Send me the FLA or upload it to a free starage site -

  • Finding the right effect

i am trying to fit the end of a song which has a break down effect at the end of it so i want to use an effect to match, i know in my mind what i want it to look like but am unsure if it is achievable with fce?
i want to make it look like the footage is flickering as if it were the end of a reel in a projector, so it looks like it is scrolling up and running out a frames
does anyone know how to do this?
hope you can understand what i am trying to describe

Have a look at the demo at bottom of site..

advice on my site is for iMovie-users, but the basic principle (=a fast vertical pan plus some 'burn'/overexposure) is do-able in FCE either...

  • DSLR 24p/30p export?

    Hello,
So I have my sequence preset set to dslr-1080p-30p, and I have 2 types of footage in the timeline (both from the canon 5d m2).  Obviously the 30p footage looks great, and the 24p footage has an added frame (ABCDD), which is to be expected since I'm editing them both at the same time.  However, I'm struggling to export to an H.264 file in that the 24p footage lags (once again, a duplicate frame every 4 frames).  I tried several different export settings (including both 30 drop and 30 non-drop transcodes).  Am I missing something along the way?
    Thanks in adv,
    Aaron

I just made a file that was crazy huge, even with the bit depth all the way down to 8...  There was no longer a duplicate frame in the 24 fps clips, but instead two ghost frames right next to each other (the two frames actually had the same image in both of them, but instead it was a double image).  Not to mention that the file size was very large.
I guess I should have started out my question with: is it possible to have a project from DSLR footage that seemlessly jumps from 24 fps to 30 fps (without any "tricky" interlaced frames that will give the 24 fps clips a lagging feeling)?  If not, then I guess I will just have to shoot everything in 24 fps and avoid the problem altogether.
    Thanks,
    Aaron
