Force mapping to a specific MAC address a multicast IP address in ARP cache table with netsh

Hi all,
I would like to know if there is any solution (netsh option, registry entry, whatever...) to force mapping a given MAC address to a multicast IP address (224.x.y.z) in my ARP cache table.
I am doing the following:
netsh.exe interface ip add neighbors "Ethernet" "224.224.xxx.yyy"
"00-80-EE-UU-VV-WW"
But the entry in the ARP table is substitued by the calculated multicast MAC@ corresponding to my multicast IP@ :
netsh.exe interface ip show neighbors "Ethernet"
Interface 12 : Ethernet
Internet Address
Physical Address Type
224.0.0.22
01-00-5e-XX-YY-ZZ
static
224.224.yyy.zzz
01-00-5e-UU-VV-WW
static
(For information, calculation of the Multicast MAC Address is described in RFC1112§6.4 -> The MAC@ equals 01-00-5e + the last 23 digits of the multicast MAC Address)
My problem is that I'm not using an Ethernet network but an AFDX (used on Airbus A380, Boeing 787 Dreamliner, by the NASA...). This network topology is a deterministic Ethernet. The network must know accurately where each network packet is going. Thus...
the multicast MAC@ cannot be accepted and packet destinated to that MAC@ are not going anywhere.
So, I must match accurately my multicast IP@ to my MAC@ (00-80...).
It used to work with Windows XP (which was not doing any "magical" MAC@ substitution on multicast IP@), but since Windows Vista, netsh is doing the substitution described above. Is there any way to disable this substitution or force my IP
to MAC mapping in ARP table? And of course, I'm not using XP anymore ;)... but a tablet with Windows 8.1.
Thanks for any help.
Cheers,
Olivier.

Hi,
The article you pointed me to is just an explanation of what I said in my original post : "Multicast MAC Address is described in RFC1112§6.4".
But, as I said in my original post, this is true ONLY for Ethernet network. And I am NOT on an Ethernet network.
So MAC address automatic calculation for my IP address done by Windows/netsh/arp is wrong in my case. The calculation Windows is doing is correct ONLY for Ethernet network. Since I am not on Ethernet, I don't want these calculations, and I'm looking for
a solution to disable them.
So, the underlying question is : "Is Microsoft/netsh/arp able to handle other network's type than Ethernet ?"
Thanks,
Olivier Dupré.

    Ok, you mean MAC filtering..
This is called timed access on the airport utility..
Set no access for all other wireless.
    Then add for your own.
Setup all the computers that you want to have access and whatever the time..
You can only MAC filter wireless clients not wired.
Do a search if this is not enough for posts by Bob Timmons on Timed Access.

  • WRT54GL V 1.1 : how to reserve IP for specific MAC address using DHCP

My !free! made in China router have this functionality. And yet I have been banging my head with this new reasonably expensive wireless router from Linksys. Anyway I lug my notebook around. I need my home router to be able to automatically configure notebook IP address using DHCP. At the same time I need the ip given by home router through DHCP to be the same IP all the time. So "static" ip is not the solution. Alternative "static" ip is also not a solution. Anything with the word "static" in it is not a solution. I know about third party firmware (wrt or tomato) and I know WRT54GL can be flashed with this third party firware. But I'm not going to void my warranty. This will be my last option but not the solution that I seek. I would like to know how to reserve ip for specific mac address using DHCP for WRT54GL V1.1. If this version have no way to make such configuration, I would like to know if there is official firmware upgrade that address this. Thanks in advance!

  • How do I set timed access for specific mac addresses?

My daughter tends to stay up late on social media long after we've asked her to go to bed, so I'd like to use the AirPort Utility to just shut off her internet access during set hours. It looks fairly straightforward to set up, however, I don't know how to find her MAC address for her iPod. Can anyone enlighten me?

iPods, IPhones, and iPads do not have a MAC Address.
On the iPod home screen, tap Settings
    Scroll down and tap General
    Tap About
Scroll down to locate the Wi-Fi Address
Use the WiFi Address of an iPod, iPhone, or iPad in place of the MAC Address when you are setting up rules in Timed Access.

  • Force an IP to a MAC on virtual network (using netsh wlan command)

I'm creating as virtual network on my PC using netsh wlan commands and it's working great. However, at this point a need came to me to force a particular IP to a MAC address. Ofcourse it will be an IP that is allowed. All I need is to force a connecting
device (with a static MAC) to have the same IP every time they connect to my virtual network.
    Is this doable?

    Hi,
If you just want to assign the static IP address for your host PC, try this command:
    http://tweaks.com/windows/40339/configure-ip-address-and-dns-from-command-line/
Please Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information.
If you want to bind an IP address to a specific MAC address, you could use DHCP to reserve an IP address for a particular client identified by its device MAC address and type of connection.

  • Install Snow Leopard for a specific mac

Using the retail Snow Leopard disc, is there a way to force it to install all the needed parts for a specific mac? My example is: I have a Mac Mini I want to use to set up what will be a replacement hard drive for a MacBook Pro. I want to make sure the OSX that gets installed for the MacBook Pro has all it needs to function as if it came directly from Apple or in other words, it's own specific default install.

My MacBook (2008) has all the same components listed in System/Library/Core Services and System/Library/Core Services/Menu Extras as my Mac Pro (2007). Even though the MacBook doesn't have a need for things like the Expansion Slot Utility and Memory Slot Utility and my Mac Pro doesn't use the IrDA.menu or ExpressCard.menu.
I don't believe there is a specific model install unless your computer came out after the retail disk was made but then all you would have to do is install all the updates and it should work. I believe I've even booted my laptop off of my desktop hard drive in target disk mode for troubleshooting/repair and don't recall seeing anything odd as far as menu items go (but its been a while). I could do it again if you really want but it's a bit of a hassle.

I can't download maps on the phone because the region list is empty (it is not supposed to be).
This happens every time I try to use the Map Loader. There are screenshots of the same problem on another forum: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-map-loader-fo r-mac/bugreport/configcfg-operation-forbidden
    Operating system is Mac OSX
    Thank you for your help.

Hi all my experience with map loader is similar and I'm hoping for dramatic improvements to enable me to successfully load maps to my 5800MX,  apols for the length of my post but I have just spent 12 hours trying to get MAP loader to work and have found and fixed a number of issues that I hope will help some people,  I have also found a no of shortcomings in the software and am hoping for Nokia to take note and apply some fixes.
    1. I got rid of the config.cfg error message by loading maps on my phone and changing the memory card location to drive E:  I then waited for a satellite connection and found location,  then connected to my MacAir running 10.6.4 OSX.  Prior to running maps on my 5800 I had the config.cfg errors.
    2. BEWARE that if you are connecting a phone that has not been synced using nokia  MMT before or one that was previously synced but had the music etc deleted (like my 5800 because I formatted the memory card) then initially the NMMT symbol flashes as if it is working,  BUT shortly after it will remain static and then the color wheel will appear when you float the mouse over the NMMT icon,  this can give the impression of a complete software lock upand in my case only after 2 forced quits and reboots not altering things I  decided to leave the MAC in this state  ,  low and behold some 40mins later NMMT started showing a status of music and photo transfer .  SO NOKIA please fix this your software appears to be totally hung but it is merely working so something needs resolution in my view as there really is no indication that the software is running and in "force quit" the software shows as not responding.
    3. MAP LOADER, - initially upon loading map loader it reported "phone cannot have maps or is not compatible" however this was because my default memory card (on the 5800 maps, settings ,maps, menu) was C: and I had not actually re-run maps after formatting my memory card (see note 1 and 2) . Changing the default memory location in maps on the phone to E: allowed map loader to run.  Then I had an issue that the map regions were not showing in the left column,  the software simply showed nothing and I had nothing to drag into my phone for upload.  This was resolved by getting a faster internet connection.  Internet Speed and Reliability - Now (still not resolved)  I have a faster internet connection I have loaded MAP loader and have dragged all of the relevant maps to the right.  I click on upload/download maps and the software stars the download process but takes an eternity to download maps,  last night I left the software for 7 hours and still no maps were downloaded,  In addition to this I have to leave my phone connected to my MACAIR the whole time I am attempting to download,  so I can't even download maps from nokia and upload them to my phone at a later date. I think this is due to my internet connection speed but I am using bittorrent to frequently download torrents which works fine so it cannot be that bad.  So MY REQUEST to NOKIA software development for MAP LOADER is can we please have some software that is designed to run on an internet connection that is less than 500K (it looks like you developed it on a 1GB LAN connection).  IE why do I have to connect my phone  for MAP loader to start in the first place  OR  Can't you put an option in the SW to allow the Nokia phone to be disconnected after downloading commences (ie if this is a licensing issue) so I can freely use my phone whilst maps are downloaded on my MACBOOK when Im not in the office  ?  Could you employ a capability like bittorrent in the downloader so we can download in portions when we have access to the internet  ?  Why is your MAP loader so slow ?  IE I happily download 100M updates to MACOSX and ITUNES over these internet connections but MAP LOADER just WONT WORK, OR works so slowly and cannot recover from slow internet connection states that it is unusable ?
    4. As I have a MACAIR I only have one USB port so was hoping to connect my 5800 with Bluetooth so I can run maploader whist I am connected to my USB mobile internet.  Unfortunately I was unable to get the MAP loader to recognize my 5800 via bluetooth ,  I loaded the software , chose use bluetooth and it continually searched with no connection found.  This is despite me having the devices paired,  I have used bluetooth connections for both isnc (calendar and contacts sync works fine) and for NMMT. NMMT recognized the 5800 bluetooth connection in the dropdown menu but MAP LOADER completely failed to recognize it.  NOKIA please allow a BT connection with the nokia 5800 so I can run this combination,  OR simply allow me to disconnect my phone whilst I am on the internet downloading my maps,  then once maps are on my local MACdrive I can just disconnect from the internet and uploads maps to my phone.
That's it, in short MAP Loader for MACOSX 10.6.4 seems unworkable in its current form unless your connected to an 8M internet connection or the Nokia development LAN.   Please fix ASAP

  • Forcing OSx to connect 2 Macs using FW or Ethernet rather than via Airport

Moving larger files via an airport network obviously is rather slow. The solution appears to connect via Firewire or Ethernet when sending larger collections of files.
Setup: Macs are connected via an airport network. All Macs have been assigned static IP addresses (10.0.1.201, ...)
Problem: When connecting two Macs via Firewire or Ethernet, the Macs still appear to prefer a connection via the Airport network rather then Firewire or Ethernet. In order to get around this problem, I usually just turn off the Airport network and thereby force OSx to take the connection via Firewire or ethernet.
Question: How can I force OSx to connect both Macs via Firewire or Ethernet without disconnecting from the Airport network?
Failed attempts: I tried to assign different IPs to the Macs in Network > Integrated Firewire, i.e. Mac1's IP in the Airport network is 10.0.1.201. In integrated Firewire, I assigned 10.0.1.212 to Mac1 and tried to connect to it from Mac2 using that IP and which is connected to Mac1 using a Firewire cable. Didn't work
Does anyone have any experience in this? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Hello,
You can reorder network ports in Network Preferences.
Go to "Show > Network Port Configurations" then drag & drop ports so that ethernet and firewire are first in the list.
Now the default route should be via the first connected device.
    Why reward points ?

Several weeks ago I was forced to change my Apple ID when my e-mail address changed.  I spent several hours on the phone with a tech resetting all of my devices.  The new ID seems to be recognized everywhere except when I'm asked to enter it for app upgrades on my Mac-Pro (10.8.5).  When I'm asked to sign in there, the old e-mail address is still shown and I'm unable to change it.  Suggestions?

I was forced to change my Apple ID when my e-mail address changed.
    There is no such requirement.
You have created an additional Apple-ID, which is different from the one under which you purchased Items from The Mac App Store.
Go back, log in under the OLD Apple-ID and Add an additional email Address there instead.
Apple does not yet have a convenient way of combining Apple-IDs.

  • XSLT Mapping of Adapter-Specific Message Attributes

    Hi,
We have the requirement to build a soap request with a custom soap envelop/header which contains a sessionId.
Therefore we developed a xlst mapping which is called directly after a graphical mapping.
In the graphical mapping the session id is written to the dynamic configuration.
The goal is to read this session id in the xslt mapping from the dynamic configuration using XSLT Mapping of Adapter-Specific Message Attributes. We used  [this|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi711/helpdata/en/43/03fe1bdc7821ade10000000a1553f6/content.htm] documentation as an example.
But we are getting the following error: TransformerConfigurationException triggered while loading XSLT mapping. The error is raised at this node: <xsl:variable name="dynamic-conf" select="map:get($inputparam, 'DynamicConfiguration')" />
This is the coding of the xslt transformation:

Hi, yes we did try that and lot's of other combination.
The results of those trials are that it seems to go wrong with <xsl:variable name="dynamic-conf" select="map:get($inputparam, 'DynamicConfiguration')" />
When we enclose it with <xsl:if test="function-available('map:get')"> the transformation is not dumping, but the function is not available.

I want to install Windows 7 on my band new Macbook Pro 13 inch and use Parallel Desktop 6 torun it alongside my Mac OS. Do I need to buy a specific Mac version of Windows 7 or do I install a standard Windows 7 OS on the Mac using boot camp.

As vazandrew said, Boot Camp will work with any standard copy of Win 7.
The only exception would be if you want to run it in a virtual environment, such as with Parallels or WMware.
I personally recommend Boot Camp, however, since it only uses the resources for one OS at a time.

  • ARP cache not adding MAC address

    Hi,
We have a network in the company where visitors\customers can connect their PCs to pick up a IP address & access the internet via our cluster of Checkpoint firewalls. The problem we are having is that whenever somebody with a Mac tries to use this network they cannot access the internet although it works fine for all Windows based PCs. So to investigate I got hold of a IBook & made the following observations.
The gateway provided by the DHCP servers is a IP address (192.168.48.203) on a multicast mac address that represents both of the firewalls, which in turn have a physical address of 192.168.48.201 & 192.168.48.202 respectively. This is done to provide redundancy.
What happens on the IBook is that it picks up a DHCP address as well as the DNS & gateway address as supplied by the DHCP server, but then when you try to access the internet you have no joy. If you check the arp table you will then notice that the table have not been updated with the mac address of the 192.168.48.203 gateway. If you then manualy add the mac address of 192.168.48.203, using arp -s, it works fine or if you staticaly configure the IP address settings to use either 192.168.48.201 or 202 as gateways (which have unicast mac addresses) it also solves the problem & immediately updates the arp cache with the mac addresses of either of these two interfaces depending on which one you are using.
We put a sniffer on the network & could see that the mac address for 192.168.48.203 is being passed on to the IBook but for some reason it just does not update the arp cache with this details. Also tried this on some of the other networks we are running that uses the same concept & the same thing happens. As I mentioned no Windows hosts are having this problem & immediately updates their arp details to include the mac address of the .203 address.
On a Mac after obataining a DHCP address & running "netstat -r" you get the following:
    Internet:
Destination Gateway Flags Refs Use Netif Expire
    default 192.168.48.203 UGSc 5 5 en1
    127 localhost UCS 0 0 lo0
    localhost localhost UH 9 2477 lo0
    169.254 link#5 UCS 0 0 en1

    192.168.48.203 link#5 UHRLW 4 30 en1
    192.168.51.1 localhost UHS 0 1 lo0
Then after adding the mac address manualy it looks as follows & works fine:
    Internet:
Destination Gateway Flags Refs Use Netif Expire
    default 192.168.48.203 UGSc 26 6 en1
    127 localhost UCS 0 0 lo0
    localhost localhost UH 9 12353 lo0
    169.254 link#5 UCS 0 0 en1
    192.168.48/22 link#5 UCS 0 0 en1
    192.168.48.203 1:0:5e:7c:0:48 UHLS 26 28 en1
    192.168.51.1 localhost UHS
Any ideas why this is happening ?

    IBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Hi,
I am facing exactly the same problem here with an iMac G5. I have called the apple support and the conclusion was that they have no clue for that and we should wait for an update that will hopefully resolve this.
I was also aksing them if there was a way in the mac to set a static mac address for the gateway in the macintosh so I don't have to run the terminal and type the arp -s every time I start up. They said it is out of the kind of support they can provide... Do you have an idea on how to add a static ARP entry in the table ?
    Thank you.
