Form Mail vs. Database...

Hi,
I'm debating whether to set up a form to send via formmail
(comes in as a regular e.mail) or to go through my host company so
that the responses go through a database first.
Which is more reliable, or would you think would be best for
a form in which end-users are voluntarily opting into a mailing
list and answering questions about their interests?
And tell me why.
Thank you!

I see no reason for the database, do you?

    Form mail scripts send form contents via email. It sounds
    like you want to just insert data from the form into a database.
    Just use the build in DW Insert Record behavior.

    I haven't seen the ora-03116 problem.
    What version of Portal are you running? Are the databases at the same version? Does your table have longs or anything strange in it?
    Can you query the table via the synonyms and link in sqlplus as the application schema? This is a good test because it eliminates Portal.
    You should try setting up synonyms etc for the emp table. If you still get the problem then Oracle may be able to replicate it. If not, then there's sth funny about your table maybe.
    I agree with Vishnu about creating everything in sqlplus. I create all my links and synonyms in sqlplus. They are all public. I have 2 synonyms: one takes you over the link the other takes you to the right schema. It's flexible and it works.
    data database: D grants to P (local schema) on table T
    public syn T = D.T (sys) (get the right schema)
    portal dbase : public db link to data database connecting as P
    public syn T = T@dblink (sys) (over the link)
    P is a schema created in both databases.
    Test is: P in portal dbase can "select * from T" and gets the right data.
    I never, ever refer to a schema when defining a form. ie. never P.T or D.T or whatever. I always refer simply to a synonym. For the above my form would be defined simply on the table T.
    Hope this helps

  • Saving forms in the database

    Is it possible to save an Oracle Form in the database? I have some forms thah require checking to see if they access various tables. I'd like to load the forms into the database and query the forms metadata, but not being a forms person I'm not sure if this is possible.

    Can you save Form modules (FMB, MMB, PLL) into the database?
    Yes and no. Yes if its standalone and no if its part of Apps, this is because Apps forms are structured so that their dependent modules are all stored as files. In Forms 9i (not yet released) you will not be able to store Forms modules in the database altogether.

  • FORMS 6i and referenced forms in the database and compilation

    Hello everybody,
    I must work on an existing FORMS 6i APPLICATION.
    I'm using FORMS 6i patch 18 on an ORACLE DATABASE 10g.
    When I open a form I've got the message 'to retrieve reference objects, you must connect to the database' ( I think subclassed objects ), I do it and I got the error 'Failed to load objects ....'
    In fact, I realize that the form I have to modify contains some objects referenced in some ( 3 in fact ) fmb source files, after searching on the web I have to 'insert' these 3 forms in the database : I have done it.
    Everything is OK now : no more error when opening the form, I modify it and compile it on my testing environnment.
    My question is : Do I have to "insert" these 3 source fmb forms into production in order to make my compiled fmx executable ??
    Indeed, the only way to insert a form into database is to have the developper 6i database tables in the database, but in production I think it does not matter, do you ?
    thanks a lot.
    Romeo Georgievski.

    You only need the referenced objects when
    - changing the form in the Builder
    - generating/compiling the form
    When generating/compiling Forms Builder or Forms Compiler are resolving the references against the objects stored in the database.
    They are now part of the runtime form (fmx file).
    Note:
    Storing objects into the database is desupported/depricated after Forms 6i (6.0.8).

  • Form Mail - server scripts

    Howdy all,
    I use DW 2004MX. If this topic has been addressed before, I'm
    sorry. I am trying to make a very simple form mail work on my
    website; name, address, phone # and send. I know for a fact there
    are two types of form scripts on my server, and both are activated.
    One is a CGI (gdform.cgi), and the other is a PHP (gdform.php). My
    server is Godaddy if that matters. I have read many messages about
    form mail, but cannot find out how to MAKE IT ALL WORK. I have been
    looking for a step-by-step answer, but no luck so far. BTW, I am a
    newbie. The manual I have is "aftermarket", and is near useless for
    the form mail stuff. The web address is www.azaleatrail.com
    Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks,
    MonaLisaWest

    my suggestion from trying to sort out questions from others
    hosted with go
    daddy- don't bother with either of those scripts.
    I assume that you can use php files within your site?
    If yes- i suggest this script:
    http://boaddrink.com
    -->phpformmail
    the instructions are in the zipped folder.
    short list of instructions i suggest (use your own info of
    course)
    http://groups-beta.google.com/group/macromedia.dreamweaver/search?q=alan+php
    formmail+edit+recipient&start=0&scoring=d&
    1)go to
    http://boaddrink.com
    -->phpformmail
    download it.
    http://www.boaddrink.com/projects/files/phpformmail/phpformmail_class...
    .2.zip
    extract the ZIP file.
    2) open formmail.php in dreamweaver
    Make the following changes (in code view, turn line numbers
    on)
    2a)
    line 4,
    define('CHECK_REFERER', true);
    change to:
    define('CHECK_REFERER', false);
    reason: too many people use a firewall or Norton security to
    restrict this.
    2b)
    Line 43
    $referers = array('www.example.com', 'example.com');
    change to the url address of your web site.
    reason: this probably isn't needed since we just turned the
    referrer
    checking off. but change it anyway.
    2c) *********this is the hard-coding of the recipient address
    into the php
    file, where it is totally invisble**********
    Line 46
    $recipient_array = array();
    change to:
    $recipient_array = array('me' =>
    '[email protected]);
    **put YOUR email address in to replace
    [email protected]
    reason: this sets the email address the form results will be
    sent to.
    3) now do a File-->Save As and save this file to within
    this Local Site
    folder.
    4) in dw's File Panel, find formmail.php and upload it to the
    remote site.
    5) Now open your form html file in dreamweaver,
    5a)click the mouse into the form area, and select the
    <form> tag on the
    lower left margin of the design window.
    In the Property Inspectory, it should now show the properties
    of the <form>
    tag. In the Property Inspector, to the right of the ACTION
    line, click the
    folder icon and browse to and select the copy of the
    formmail.php file
    you've saved to within this site.
    5b) now go to dw menu-->Insert-->Form
    Objects-->Hidden Field
    This inserts a hidden form field.
    In the property inspector, change the NAME of this field to:
     recipient
    And the VALUE of this field to:  me
    the code should look like:
    <input name="recipient" type="hidden" id="recipient"
    value="me">
    6) Save and upload the form page.
    Try the form from the website.
    Optional:
    make a new page for a thank you for submitting message.
    In the form, insert another hidden field.
    Name:  redirect
    Value:  the full absolute
    http:// address to the new thank you page.
    There is other information about that script in the Docs
    folder.

    Can I connect my form to a database to populate data?

    Hi;
    You want to poplulate your form with data from a database, or to populate the database from the form?
    There isn't any way to import the data into the form in FormsCentral from a database.  To populate and external database from the table on the View Responses tab there are no APIs to do it automatically but you can export to Excel or CSV and then import the Excel or CSV into your database:  http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-1383

  • PHP Form Mail Scripts

    What is a good resource for pre-made PHP Form Mailer Scripts.
    This is for use with a website hosted on GoDaddy.
    My client has a few requirements that the GoDaddy script does
    not offer (and the script I chose from GoDaddy is uneditable). I
    know nothing about scripting but thought I could use a pre-made
    script and modify it...is that crazy thinking on my part?
    Here are the special requests from my client:
    - They'd like to see the time the form was submitted in EST
    (the GoDaddy script puts the time in military time in another time
    zone in the subject line). Can this appear in the body of the email
    as well as the subject line?
    - They'd like the form to be sent to the person submitting it
    as well as to their company
    - They would like to be able to REPLY TO the email they
    receive with the form submission and have it be addressed to the
    person submitting the form. The current script has the email
    addressed to themselves (the company) if they click REPLY TO, so
    they are replying to themselves
    - Although this has nothing to do with the Form Mailer script
    as far as I can guess, they asked that the person filling out the
    form be able to print it prior to submitting (in my opinion,
    though, if i can have a copy of the submission sent to the
    submitter, there's no reason for this). But if anyone knows how to
    do this, please let me know.
    - Finally, the client wants to know if each submission can
    have a unique tracking number assigned to it.
    Thank you all. Any feedback is appreciated.

  • Looking for a solution or service to export data from a dynamic form into a database

    As the title of this discussion states, I'm looking for a solution or service to export data from a dynamic form into a database to be used for reporting. Creating the dynamic form is not a problem, it's getting it into a database that's more of a nuisance. A dynamic form is needed in order to provide skip logic, hide/reveal, and other similar dynamic features.
    The database hasn't been created, so just looking for the easiest, more effective and dependable solution. The key is being able to run reports off the data later.

    So i set up 2 residential grade routers to test this out. Seems to be working okayish. I believe with directional antenae routers I should achieve what I need.
    As for security I configured each device separately. I set them so only allow the MAC address of the other through wireless. This seems to be the best system for me. Once they are connected even if a MAC is spoofed of the other router it drops automatically because they are always connected. My wired devices get plugged in and recieve an IP from my main network.
    There more testing to be done, but it seems to be working.
    Thanks for your input and suggestions guys. I will be marking this topic as answered.

  • How To reduce Mail Queue Database File?

    Hello Team,
    I setup exchange server 2013,i check daily mail queue database file increase .
    So how to decrease database file?i
    Thanks,
    Jemin Prajapati

    Hi Jim,
    While moving old queue, we will loose some mail during this operation.
    Can we do this activity without any downtime or without loosing any mail.
    Please confirm we only need to move mail.que and rest of other file (log and temp) will remain the same.
    What I am thinking how new queue will sync with old logs and other files.
    Thanks
    Hi
    If the new queue work without any problem, we could refer to the following steps:
    Use “Net stop MSExchangeTransport” to stop Exchange transport service.
    Overwrite all the existing empty queue database files and transaction log files on the target Exchange transport server by using all the files from "C:\QueueRecovery". By default, the queue database and transaction logs exist in C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange
    Server\TransportRoles\data\Queue.
    A new queue database is created when the Microsoft Exchange Transport service is restarted. This can occur at any time after we have finished copying the queue database files to the target transport server.
    Use “ Net pause MXExchangeTransport ” to pause message flow through Hub Server
    Use the Queue Viewer or the Get-Queue cmdlet in the Exchange Management Shell to monitor the delivery queues on the target Exchange transport server. Wait until no messages remain in any of delivery queues on the server as indicated by a message count of
    0.
    Then we use “Net stop MSExchangeTransport” to stop Exchange transport service.
    Use “Net start MSExchangeTransport” to enable Exchange transport service.
    We could refer to the following link to learn more details:

    I made it create a table for each record,

  • Web form not updating database with stored procedure

    Hello
    i have a problem with the web form updating the database i have a stored procedure which i need to connect to. If i execute the procedure in the SQL it will update the database but when i run the web form i get my catch error "could not update database".
    I have read so much on the net and my code seem ok but i,m just so lost.
    stored procedure
    PROCEDURE [dbo].[UpdateCustomer]
    @ID INT,
    @Firstname VARCHAR(30),
    @Surname VARCHAR(30),
    @Age INT
    AS
    BEGIN
    UPDATE Customer
    SET Firstname = @Firstname,
    Surname = @Surname,
    Age = @Age
    WHERE CustID = @ID
    END
    update code
    try
    SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand();
    command.Connection = conn;
    command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
    command.CommandText = "UpdateCustomer";
    command.Connection.Open();
    SqlParameter param = new SqlParameter();
    param.ParameterName = "@ID";
    param.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.Int;
    param.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input;
    param.Value = txtCustID.Text;
    command.Parameters.Add(param);
    command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@CustID", txtCustID.Text.ToString());
    command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Firstname", txtFirstname.Text);
    command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Surname", txtSurname.Text);
    command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Gender", Gender.Text.ToString());
    command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Age" ,txtAge.Text.ToString());
    command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Address1", txtAddress1.Text.ToString());
    command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Address2", txtAddress2.Text.ToString());
    command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@City", txtCity.Text.ToString());
    command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Phone", txtPhone.Text.ToString());
    command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Mobile", txtMobile.Text.ToString());
    command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Email", txtEmail.Text.ToString());
    command.ExecuteNonQuery();
    lblMessage.Text = "Your Record(s) Have been Updated";
    command.Connection.Close();
    catch
    lblMessage.Text = "Your Record was not updated please try again";
    Thank you for your help

    To expand on Mike's advice.
    Change your catch to:
    catch(Exception ex)
    { // Break point here
    lblMessage.Text = "Your Record was not updated please try again";
    Put a break point in where the comment says.
    Run it.
    Hover over ex or add a quickwatch ( right click it ) and see what the error and inner exception is.
    I see several problems though.
    You have way too many parameters and Age should be int.
    They are objects  - they have a type.
    It'll be a string with your code there.
    Something more like
    command.Parameters.Add("@Age", SqlDbType.Int);
    command.Parameters["@Age"].Value = Convert.ToInt32(txtAge.Text);
    Although that might not cut and paste, it's air code intended to give you the idea.
    Hope that helps.
