Format Range in EVDRE - Impact on perf.

Hi everybody,
We use systematically now the Format Range in EVDRE. It is a very clever functionality.
We are still in development, but we want to anticipate the production.
When EVDRE() returns an important number of lines/columns or the workbook contains numerous tabs, we suspect that the Format Range has a negative impact on performances.
Do you have any experience feedback on that?
Thanks and regards
Gael

I would be surprised it performance was not negatively impacted by using the format range. Especially on a large volume of data. Excel formulas will slow down performance on thousands of data cells and it's important to understand how excel performs calculations in a workbook , (top to bottom, left to right and it doesn't like looking back).
Frankly, I never use the format range. It's a personal choice; I beleive an excel workbook should look. feel and act like an excel workbook, not like a GUI screen. I usualy do all my formatting using normal excel format features.
Don't misunderstand me, the format range feature is great and is capable of lots of wonderful formatting. I just prefer doing things without it.

  • EVDRE Format Range More than one Criteria

I have found a problem when combining two Criterias in the Format Range Criteria section:
    CATEGORY.ID="FORECAST" AND ACCOUNT.CALC="Y"
I expext a formatting as when ACCOUNT is a calculated member and the CATEGORY is forecast, then do a special formatting.
I have a EVDRE input schedule with Accounts in Rows and Category (Actual, Budget and Forecast) and Time (three month) in Columns.
It does the formatting for the first combination of the criteria, but if the criteria matches somwhere els in later colums, the formatting is ignored.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Achim,
I tried your scenario by creating my own EVDRE template using your example and it's working fine for me. I'm using SAP BPC 7.0 MS SP7. What version are you using? Does this line of formatting in the last line of the FORMAT RANGE?

  • Data Validation in Excel used in Format Range

    Hi Experts,
Im just wondering if there's a way i can use format range to carry out the data validation of excel.
i mean, i need to limit the users to enter only numberic data to the input cells, hence they cannot input any letter and negative values.
i tried applying the data validation in format range but, its not spreading the data validation.
if i apply data validation to every cell, when i expand, the data validation disappears.
    Any advise.
    Thanks much as always...

    Hi,
I was not able to use Data Validation in FORMAT RANGE.
If you want to apply this data validation for the whole data range, you can apply this data validation in the first cell of the first row, first column of evdre. It will apply to the whole data range.
If you want to apply this for certain columns, its a bit tricky.
You must break your columnKeyRange into 2 and insert a column in between. In the 1st columnkeyrange, get the data, hide this column alone and add this column in getonlyrange. Next, in the newly inserted columns between the 2 column key ranges, you can use your Data Validation in 1st row. While expanding, it will automatically copy the data validation to the remaining rows. Now, In the second columnkeyrange, get the value based on the data validation cell, hide this column alone. So now you will have 3 columns, with those in the column key ranges as hidden ones and the one in between will be shown to the users.
I know, this workaround is a bit tricky, but it works flawlessly. I have used this for umpteen sheets.

  • Expansion error in Format Range

I have a EVDRE Input schedule (not from dynamic template). I added a format range, but the EVDRE is giving an error "FormatRange must have minimum of 3 columns in range". There are more than 3 columns. Not sure why is this error.
    Please advise.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Please check the Range you have specified in the Format Range Option of the EVDRE.
The Format Range should include the set of cells which has these columns,
"Criteria" "EvaluateIN" "Format" "Use" "Parameters" "ApplyTo"
So there should be 6 columns for the Format Range and values for these columns can be updated according to the requirement.
Please Check the link for the document on Formatting.

  • BPC Excel - EVAFTER and Format Range

    Hi
Is there any way to continue the formatting defined in the FormatRange into the EvAfter range ?
In the ApplyTo column in the FormatRange I've tried EVAFTER, AfterRange etc... but I just get errors.
If it isn't possible to define in the Format Range is there a trick to get excel to continue the formatting from the data into the EvAfter range ?
    Thanks for your help.
    Kind Regards
    Gav

    Hi Gavin,
The EVAFTER range has it own format, and it is applied after the general formatting coming from the FORMAT range table.
So you have to create your format for EVAFTER inside the cells referenced in your EVRNG function in the AfterRange parameter of your expansion. And be sure that you reference enough columns in this Range, to be sure that your data layout is also displaying this specific format.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Rounding cell in evdre using microsoft version

How do you round a cell value to a whole number in evdre using microsoft version?  For example, the cell value returned is -.01 and I want to round the cell value to 0.

    Hi,
Just use the Excel formatting in cell if you are not using "Format Range" in EVDRE.
If you are using "Format Range" then just make the necessary changes in the format range section.
    Hope it helps

  • EVDRE - Multiple Key Ranges - Formatting

I am building a report that uses Multiple Key Ranges, both column and row, as shown below.
    ColKeyRange
    Sheet1!$N$101:$AA$104,Sheet1!$N$164:$AA$167,Sheet1!$N$213:$AA$216
    RowKeyRange
    Sheet1!$I$110:$I$160,Sheet1!$I$173:$I$209,Sheet1!$I$222:$I$261
My formatting range has a line with HEADING="GREYBG" in the Criteria column.
However, when I use keywords in my COL Heading area, only the column heading on the first key range is used.  For example, if I use a keyword GREYBG in cell N168, it wonu2019t apply to my second data range.  The second data range is formatted only from what is in the first column header.
Is this the normal behavior?  Is there any way to make the second data range use the formatting from the second column header?

    Hi,
Did you manage to find an answer to this?
I have tried doing similar, with HEADING="B" and putting B in the column directly to the left of the key, yet it doesn't work on any of the data sets except the first

  • EVDRE Report and Formatting

    Hi
I am quite new to BPC, so my apologies if this is a very basic question, I've created in BPC for Excel ( BPC Version 7, Excel 2003 ) an EVDRE report, which I would now like to format.
As my report is static, rather than use the FormatRange, I'd ideally like to turn off altogether any BPC formatting, and do my own formatting via Excel i.e. Bold certain fields, draw line Borders around areas etc.
I've tried not referring the FormatRange ( blank format range, and no formatting specified ), but still when I refresh my Excel formatting is changed or overwritten altogether.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Kind Regards
    Gavin

As the report is static, did you remove the expansions? Or is it configured in a way that expansion is always the same?
If expansions are enabled, and all formatting ranges are cleared, EVDRE will automatically apply the formatting defined in the top left cell for the datarange, the top cell for the rowkeyrange and descriptions for the member in the rowkeyrange, and the formatting in the leftmost cell in the colkeyrange.
If you disable the expansion by removing the expansionrange from your EVDRE formula, you can hardcode formatting for each cell independently, and only data is refreshed upon hitting the refresh button.
Maybe this will solve your issue.
    Kind regards,
    Tim Vierhout

  • Custom formatting in evdre with one row

  • Format EV_AFTER Range

    Hi all,
Can I define a format just for the EV_AFTER range in my format range? I do not really want to hide the column keys but don't like the EV_AFTER showing up either, so I would like to set a format just for the EV_AFTER rows that uses white for the font colour. Is that possible? And if so, what would be the criteria to use?
    Thanks,
    Arnold

That doesn't quite do what I want to do. Let's look at an example.
I have 4 dimensions in rows, entity, intco, account and transactioncurrency
My AFTER_RANGE is set as EVRNG(B21:F21)
I have formatted the cells B21 to F21 to have different background colours
When I expand the report I have 4 columns which contain the key per row and 4 columns which contain the heading per row and then a number of columns which show the data.
The format defined in B21 to F21 is applied to the heading and data section but not to the key section. So, the ID for my dimension elements is still shown in black (which I want) but the keys in the after range rows is also shown in black (which I do not want).
I cannot format that actual after range rows as the report is expanding and supressing empty rows, so I cannot know which rows will be the after range rows.
I can set a format for rows which is applied to the keys, but that is applied to the keys I want to see (the actual elements) and the ones I do not want to see.
What I am after is a way to format the key part of the after_range rows.
    Thanks,
    Arnold

  • EVDRE Col Key Range

    Hi All,
I have given two ranges for ColKey Range in EVDRE report.
When I am trying to expand the report it is giving the message "run Expand: ColKey Range <> Col Expand Options Wks: Sheet1"
Does any one faced th same problem, give a light to overcome this.
    Thanks,
    Nagesh.

    Hi again Nagesh,
    It's quite strange.
Ok, try to take the problem from the beginning. Go under ApShell --> Finance, and build your report with ONLY one expansion in rows (Account) and ONLY one expansion in columns (Time):
Your ColKeyRange EVRNG function should be as follow: "=EVRNG(G13:R13)" and the Memberset for the Column Expansion should be for example "BAS(2006.TOTAL)" --> This should work in all cases on your side. Can you confirm?
Then, you should update your ColKeyRange EVRNG function to include another range : "=EVRNG(G13:R13,T13:AE13)" (be sure to reference the same row in both ranges (13 in that case), and change the Memberset for the Column Expansion to "BAS(2006.TOTAL)|BAS(2007.TOTAL)" --> This should also work in all cases. Can you confirm?
If it's ok, you have to use exactly the same process on your particular application.
    Hope this helps.
    Kind Regards,
    Patrick

  • Using "calc' function to show if the cell is editable(EVDRE Reports)

    Hello All,
I have a question regarding using the "calc' property in my dimension 'ACCOUNT' in a EvDRE report to display the rows as calculated or input ready cells. I have developed an input template by opening a blank workbook and typing in EVDRE(). I have listed ACCOUNT to be in the rows and Time in the columns. I have listed the memberset to be members in the ACCOUNT and SELF, DEP in the Time dimension. Whenever I expand the EVDRE, I always get the cells to be 'yellow' in color similiar to the calc format. How do I differentiate between the Calculated cell and the input cell. I was thinking to use the CALC functionality similiar to the reports/input schedules written using EVGTS/EVSND functions.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi  bpc4livin,
Take note that even though you have specified the base members as memberset in your EVDRE, still you must have base level members in your Current View in the Action pane. Remember that each data cells in an EVDRE template is an intersection of the dimension in your rows and columns plus the rest of the dimensions in your application which would come in your current view if you don't define them as memberset. So as long as there is one calculated member in your current view still the cell would be marked as calculated.
You can use EVDRE's format range to format a scpecific cell or group of cells. To activate this after you typed the EVDRE and refresh the sheet, you must check the allow formatting option in the EVDRE builder that appears. I think that there is already a default format in the format range that says that if a data cell is calculated it would be colored yellow. So if you want further knowldege on how to use the format range, you could see the Using Reports Help in the See Also section of the action pane of the BPC Excel.
    Hope this helps,

  • BPC for Excel - Number Formatting

    Hi
    Hopefully an easy question !
What do I need to put in the number FORMAT field in the FormatRange to have positive numbers as 12,345 and negative numbers in red and in parentheses (12,345) ? - in excel formatting it would be #,##0,;[red](#,##0,)
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Kind Regards
    Gav

I assume this is for an EVDRE report.  In an EVDRE report, If the word FormatRange is in cell A9, put anEvRng formula in B9, referencing another cell, for example =EvRng(C9).  Then format C9 the way you want your schedule to look (font, border, pattern, number format, alignment, etc).  I put a number in cell C9 so you can see the results of your formatting.
There are many more formatting capabilities of EVDRE that you can find in the Help file and the BPC for Office guide,  but this is the simplest way to do it.  You can also do conditional formatting on the cells in the data range.

  • Undo function in EVDRE Input Schedule

    Hi All,
The undo functionality does not work in EVDRE Excel Input Schedules (SAP BPC NW 7.5)..Kindly let me know if you could use the same....

    Hi Shibu,
I opened a dynamic input schedule in the Apshell appset. I entered a data in one of the cells, the color of the cell changes (due to the format range). I pressed ctrl + z. However, it didnt remove the data.
I removed the formatrange option. Now when i press ctrl + z, it works perfectly.

  • Evdre,  FormatRange doest work with ExpandOnly

Why FormatRange doest work with ExpandOnly?
And How use GroupExpansion (option in evdre)?
    Thanks

The Format Range doesnt work with the EXPAND ONLY option b/c the option ONLY cause an expansion on the axis, and does not retrieve data.  Without the data, the formatting process is not applied to the query.
The GROUPEXPANSION option only applies to the use of GROUP and ENTITY dimension to build out a report for a legal consolidation process. This function only works in BPC for Microsoft.
    Hope this helps.
