Formatting the text in a cell

Hello Experts,
I have a word doc in where it is having a bullet list format. I do not need to have actual bullets in the webi doc, I am replacing the bullet with an "*", and the sub-bullet with an "-". I have tried to play around with all of the different properties, but I cant get what i want
Example:
*This is the textin the diocument
I would like to have this format all the way down(only 1 hyphen)
I would like to have this format all the way down(only 1 hyphen)
*This is the textin the diocument
I would like to have this format all the way down(only 1 hyphen)
I would like to have this format all the way down(only 1 hyphen)
Any suggestions on how to do this?
Also is there an carriage return or new line command I can use in the formula bar.
Thanks in advance
Niraj

Hello Khaled,
Thanks for the response!  Yes I have tried to do what you suggested, and  it does not look like a bullet list, it has the bullets and subbullets in the document, but they are all positioned far left.  I have tried to format by adding spaces, but it does not come out right.
I do have a example of what I need this to look like in webi, but i am unable to attach a screenshot.
Any help on this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Niraj

  • Formatting the text file

    hi folks,
    I have an text file with records, each record has several field values  and there is blank space between them, I need to remove the blank spaces, is there a way that i can do with all records at one stretch? Instead doing it for each record.
    I know it is not related to SAP but I need some help in this regard as there are  a lot of records and formatting each record manually is extremely painful. This is a corrected  file manually on a spreadsheet and converted into the text file from thereon.
    Any help is really appreicated.
    Thanks,
    SK

    Hi,
    What you are trying to do with the text file after removing the spaces?
    Are you going to use in SAp Upload? or just to remove the spaces in text fiel?
    If you are using it for other purposes, you should not remove the spaces, because for that particular field no data will be entered.
    (generally we remove the other chars's like " by Find and Replace method)
    Generally we format the text files from the Excel to utilise it somewhere?
    And we won't remove the spaces for surther uses.

    You can set up a temporary button (or link, bookmark, etc.) and add the following JavaScript action:
    // Mouse Up script for a temporary button (or bookmark, etc.)
    // Change the font and font size for all text fields in this document
    for (var i = 0; i < numFields; i += 1) {
        var f = getField(getNthFieldName(i));
        if (f.type === "text") {
            f.textFont = font.Helv;
            f.textSize = 9;
    It also sets the font size, but you can remove that line if you don't need to do that.

  • How to set the text of a cell in Numbers to vertical direction? Tks.

    Hi
    In Numbers, please tell me how to switch the text of a cell to vertical direction?
    Tks.

    Hi Kyle,
    In Numbers, nothing having to do with a table can be rotated. (In Pages an entire Table can be rotated, but not text within a Table.)
    There have been many suggestions posted here over the life of iWork for vertical labels. Most fall into three categories:
    1. Type one letter, Option-Return, type another letter, Option-Return, and so forth.
    2. Type label in a Text Box, rotate the box, position the box over the table, covering the cell where you need a label.
    3. Create a PDF graphic with rotated text and insert it into table cell as Background Fill.
    The third option is clearly the best. The steps for option three are:
    Insert Text Box
    Type label into the box
    Rotate the text box
    Select the text box (not the text inside the box)
    Command-C
    Switch to Preview.app
    Command-N
    Command-C
    Switch to Numbers
    Click on Cell where the label goes
    Command-V
    It sounds worse than it is. You can reuse the Text Box so you don't end up with a sheet full of them.

  • How do I copy and paste only the text from a cell?

    Hi -
    Every time I want to move text to a different cell, copy and paste copies all styles as well.  How do I just copy and paste the text while leaving the style of the receiving cell in tact?
    Thanks.
    Chris

    Christopher.  If the alternating row color is the obstacle, I suggest selecting the table, then setting the background color to white, then check the "Alternating Row Color" check box in the Table Formatter:
    Now sorting will not affect row color

  • Help needed in formating the text using HTML tags in reports 10g

    Hi all,
    I have a situation here. We have an application which prints out Reports with a few lines of text in it. This text is entered by the user through our forms application in a field. That particular text is stored in each row of a particular long column. Here I want to modify the text, while printing, on the report like underline, bold, italics etc,.
    As of now I am using the HTML tags, in the forms, to do so as most the times the text in the report is same.
    I want to know if this can be done by the user itself while he is entering the data in the field through the form.
    Thanks in advance . I will explain you more clearly if you need.

  • How to format the text  in a Digital Signature for a PDF in landscape orientation?

    I have a custom Digital Signature plug-in which prompts the user to enter few details on a dialog and then renders the signature. Now, the problem is for a page which has PDPageGetRotate value as 90. In this case, the entire content(text) in the signature is rendered reversed i.e its displayed upside down. However, for a page in portrait mode, i.e with rotation value as 0, signature is correctly displayed.
    Can anybody help me by explaining which callback/method to use to frame the text appearance? I think there needs to be some change in the parameters passed to DigSigAPCreateLayeredStreamEx, am i correct?
    Let me know any comments/suggestions on this issue of correctly rendering text in a digital signature for a rotated page.

    Just setup the appropriate transformation matrix.

  • How to format the text in an XML file

    This should be a fairly easy one. A fairly easy one that seems to be hard to actually find.
    When I write out the XML file, it's all on a single line. Not a huge problem all things considered (it works), but an annoying one.
    Here's the a snippet, to show what I'm doing. There's not enough information for this to actually compile, if one is so inclined, just comment out a bunch of things and have it write out aribitary data.
    Is this a case where I just need to manually write the formating myself?
    public void saveXML(File file){
            try{
                Document doc = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance().
                    newDocumentBuilder().newDocument();
                //give that document a root
                Element root = doc.createElement("root");
                doc.appendChild(root);
                Command[] command=getCommands();
                for (int index=0; index < command.length; index++){
                    Element element = doc.createElement("Command");
                    root.appendChild(element);
                    //get the name of the parser class this command should use
                    String pName=command[index].getParser().getClass().getName();
                    //remove everything but the last word
                    pName=pName.substring(JavaMUServer.PARSER_PATH.length());
                    //set the information.
                    element.setAttribute("name",
                        command[index].getName());
                    element.setAttribute("parser",pName);
                    element.setAttribute("method",
                        command[index].getMethod().getName());
                TransformerFactory tFactory =TransformerFactory.newInstance();
                Transformer transformer = tFactory.newTransformer();
                DOMSource source = new DOMSource(doc);
                StreamResult result = new StreamResult(
                    new FileWriter(file));
                transformer.transform(source, result);
            }catch (Exception e){
                e.printStackTrace();
        }

    Well, that helped quite a bit. Seems however when I set the indent property, rather then indenting it just makes new lines. Rather counter intuitive.
    Here's the slightly modified code (changed one line really. Tried setting a few different properties.)
    public void saveXML(File file){
            try{
                Document doc = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance().
                    newDocumentBuilder().newDocument();
                //give that document a root
                Element root = doc.createElement("root");
                doc.appendChild(root);
                Command[] command=getCommands();
                for (int index=0; index < command.length; index++){
                    Element element = doc.createElement("Command");
                    root.appendChild(element);
                    element.appendChild(doc.createElement("sample"));
                    //get the name of the parser class this command should use
                    String pName=command[index].getParser().getClass().getName();
                    //remove everything but the last word
                    pName=pName.substring(JavaMUServer.PARSER_PATH.length());
                    //set the information.
                    element.setAttribute("name",
                        command[index].getName());
                    element.setAttribute("parser",pName);
                    element.setAttribute("method",
                        command[index].getMethod().getName());
                TransformerFactory tFactory =TransformerFactory.newInstance();
                Transformer transformer = tFactory.newTransformer();
                transformer.setOutputProperty("indent", "yes");
                //transformer.setOutputProperty("method", "xml");
                DOMSource source = new DOMSource(doc);
                StreamResult result = new StreamResult(
                    new FileWriter(file));
                transformer.transform(source, result);
            }catch (Exception e){

  • How to get the text of several cells in one? (Operator "&")

    Hi there,
    I have a list of done and planned tasks. In the one column, there is the description, in the other is the status like "plan" "open" and "closed".
    Now I want to create an overview.How can I filter the "open" tasks and display them in one cell? I could do it like
    +If(B1="open";A1;"") & If(B2="open";A2;"")...+
    and so on. But as I have over 20 projects and therefor over 20 sheets, I'm seeking for a easier way. Also the reference thing would only work if there is only one open project, but sometimes I have two or three open tasks.

    schubladenachrank,
    Now, I think I see what you are trying to do. With a clearer picture of what you wanted I came up with the following:
    First of all, the added columns in you project (title) tables are no longer necessary.
    Next, an "Open Tasks Summary", is still needed but a different concept is employed. A column is needed for each title and if a task is open, that task is concatenated with the previous list of open tasks. Not unlike the method you were attempting in your original post. At this point we note that the number of rows in all of your project tables must be at least equal to the maximum number of tasks of all projects. The number of rows in your summary table must be 1 greater. The sample allows a maximum of ten tasks and the last cell of a column will always show all of the open tasks for that project.
    In the first row (row 2) of the "Open Tasks Summary" table enter the formula: ="" (This is to seed the subsequent formulas below)
    The rest of the formulas follow the form: =IF(Title 1 :: $B2="Open",A2&" "&Title 1 :: $A2,A1)
    Copy these across first and change the title names. Then they can be copied down.
    Finally, match the last column cell to the proper title in your master summary under "Status" by using: =Open Tasks Summary :: A12

  • Change the colour of a cell text depending on the value Web Reports (NW04s)

    Hi all,
    does anyone know how to change the color of the text of a cell depending on its value on Web Reports? For example red text for values smaller than zero and blue for values bigger than zero?
    I know you can create exceptions, but that changes the background color of the cell and not the text color
    I have tried modifying the theme but the property "negative text" doesn't related to cell values.
