Forms 10g automated testing

Hi,
We need to perform some automated tests on Oracle Forms 10g. To perform it, we have to recognize form elements.
Is there any way for C++ application to get information about forms contents(text fields' names, comboboxes' names, etc.) in Oracle Forms 10g?

Hi
Not sure it will be of use but Oracle provide the Forms API (either C Library or Java) to enable you to query / update properties on Forms. However, this is only relevant to source code, not an executing Forms.
Regarding automated testing, we investigated methods of doing this, and concluded that we would have to purchase a third party tool.
The two that I am aware of (that support capturing and replaying "scripts" in Forms) are provided by Mercury and Compuware.

  • Forms and Reports: Automated Test tools - functionality AND performance

    All,
    I'm looking to get a few leads on an automated test tools that may be used to validate Oracle forms and reports (see my software configuration below). I'm looking for tools that can automate both functional tests and performance. By this I mean;
    Functional Testing:
    * Use of shortcut keys
    * Navigation between fields
    * Screen organisation (filed locations)
    * Exercise forms validation (bad input values)
    * Provide values to forms and simulate user commit, and go and verify database state is as expected
    Performance Testing:
    * carry out tests for fixed user load
    * carry out tests for scaled step increase in user load
    * automated collection of log files and metrics during test
    So far I have:
    http://www.neotys.com/
    Thanks in advance for your response.
    Mathew Butler
    Configuration:
    Red Hat Enterprise Linux x86-64 architecture v4.5 64 bit
    Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 ( with patch 10.1.2.3 )
    Oracle Developer Suite (Oracle Forms and Reports) V10.1.2.0.2 ( with patch 10.1.2.3 )
    Oracle JInitiator 1.3.1.17 or later
    Microsoft Internet Explorer 6

    are there any tools for doing this activity like oracle recommended tools?
    Your question is unclear.  As IK mentioned, the only tool you need is a new version of Oracle Forms/Reports.  Open your v10 modules in a v11 Builder and select Save.  You now have a v11 module.  Doing a "Compile All PL/SQL" before saving is a good idea, but not required.  The Builders and utilites provided with the version 11 installation are the only supported tools for upgrading your application.  If you are trying to do the conversion of many Forms files in a scripted manner, you can use the Forms compiler in a script.  Generating new "X" files will also update the source modules (fmb, mmb, pll).  See MyOracleSupport Note 955143.1
    Also included in the installation in the Forms Migration Assistant.  Although it is more useful to people coming from older versions, it can also be used to move from v10 to 11.  It allows you to select more than one file at a time.  Documentation for this utility can be found in the Forms Upgrade Guide.

  • Automated testing of Processes and forms

    Hi,
    Has anyone investigated the possibilities of performing automated testing of Process and forms/SAP Interactice forms ?
    Ideally using SAp's tools eCATT or CBTA(Component Based Test Automation in SolMan),  but also using other functional testing tools such as Selenium or HP QTP.
    The Adobe PDF plugin approach makes it very difficult to automatically testing using standard web testing tools.
    Regards
    Dagfinn

    Hi,
    There is a plugin which can be used with QTP for testing Adobe pdf and forms.

  • Forms 10g rel 1( 9.0.4 ) vs SUN JVM 1.5

    Hello:
    From SUN site you can read :
    "Changes in 1.5.0_06
    The full internal version number for this update release is 1.5.0_06-b05 (where "b" means "build"). The external version number is 5.0u6.
    Security Enhancements
    Prior to this update, an applet or application could specify the version of the JRE on which it would run. This has changed. All applets are executed with the latest JRE version. Unsigned Java Web Start applications that specify a version other than the latest trigger a warning, requiring explicit user permission before the application will run. Signed Java Web start applications are not affected. "
    Assuming that our customer will use SUN JVM , NOT Oracle JInitiator.
    We have seen that if in a client machine it is installed SUN JVM 1.4.2_10 ( certified ) AND SUN JVM 1.5 or newer.
    there is NO WAY to force Forms 9.0.4 applications to run with SUN JVM 1.4.2_10.
    In spite of doing the following settings at formsweb.cfg
    # Parameter related to the version of the Java Plugin
    jpi_mimetype=application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.4.2_10
    when you run forms 9.0.4 applications from a browser in that machine, SUN JVM 1.5 is mandatory used by the browser.
    It seems that IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to tell 9.0.4 to use SUN JVM 1.4.2_10 because SUN prevents it according to the above documentation .
    Q1) I thank your comments on this
    Then, when you look for certification info:
    a) you can get this info for Forms 10g R2
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/10gR2/clientsod_forms10gR2.html
    b) you can get this info for Forms 10g R1
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/10g/clientsod_forms10g.ht
    ml
    Q2) What are ORACLE plans about certification of SUN JVM 1.5 AND Forms 10g Rel 1 ( 9.0.4 ) ?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Guys,
    I am currently testing our portal with a number of JRE version or Jinitiator and the SUN JRE.
    I found some very useful information about changing the registry of the local PC to re-enable specific versioning, see info, below.
    I have tested this and it does work, but you need to be careful with Sun JRE versions to ensure that you are on 1.5.0.7 or higher.
    Another useful link is this discussion over on the sun forums.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=730855
    Good Luck
    Scott
    We have found a conflict with the Sun JRE 1.4.2.6 and version Sun JRE 1.5.0.6
    To get around this conflict a registry key has to be added onto the users PC and the user needs to remove 1.5.0.6 and install 1.5.0.7 or higher. To make matters worse the auto-update feature in version 1.4, if left enabled, will update the user to 1.5.0.6 even thought the latest release from the sun web site is 1.5.0.8 !
    Therefore can you add this registry key onto the automated install of the Sun 1.4.2.6 setup as per the instructions below.
    Troubleshooting Conflicting JPI Versions on the Desktop:
    Per oracle note 368775.1, JRE 1.5 will not allow static versions. In other words version 1.5
    may override your required version of 1.4.2. They call it a security feature, but it can reek
    havoc with oracle forms. This section addresses a possible workaround.
    If your users either need to run JPI 1.5 for any reason, here is the workaround to force
    BANNER to use ONLY version 1.4.2.
    If you launch forms and in the java console it shows version 1.5.X, perform the following
    steps.
    1. Make a backup of the windows registry
    2. Edit the registry
    3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\
    4. Create a new directory by highlighting the key above and pressing <RIGHT
    CLICK>/<NEW KEY>
    5. Rename the key to [Java Deployment]
    6. Highlight the new key created in step 5 and press <RIGHT CLICK>/<NEW KEY>
    7. Rename this new value to [Policy]
    8. Highlight the new key created in step 7 and press <RIGHT CLICK>/<NEW DWORD>
    9. Rename this DWORD to “EnableSecureStaticVersioning”
    Re-launch forms and verify via the java console that the desktop is returning 1.4.2.

    hi
    How to get up and running with WebUtil 1.06 included with Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2 on a win32 platform
    Solution
    Assuming a fresh "Complete" install of Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2,
    here are steps to get a small test form running, using WebUtil 1.06.
    Note: Oracle_Home is used as an alias for your real oDS ORACLE_HOME.
    Feel free to copy this note to a text editor, and do a global find/replace on
    Oracle_Home with your actual value (no trailing slash). Then it is easy to
    copy/paste actual commands to be executed from the note copy.
    1) Download http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/jacob-project/jacob_18.zip
    and extract to a temporary staging area. Do not attempt to use 1.7 or 1.9.
    2) Copy or move jacob.jar and jacob.dll
    C:\webutile is the folder where you extracted Jacob, and will end in ...\jacob_18
    cd C:\webutile
    copy jacob.jar Oracle_Home\forms\java\.
    copy jacob.dll Oracle_Home\forms\webutil\.
    The Jacob staging area is no longer needed, and may be deleted.
    3) Sign frmwebutil.jar and jacob.jar
    Open a DOS command prompt.
    Add Oracle_Home\jdk\bin to the PATH:
    set PATH=Oracle_Home\jdk\bin;%PATH%
    Sign the files, and check the output for success:
    Oracle_Home\forms\webutil\sign_webutil Oracle_Home\forms\java\frmwebutil.jar
    Oracle_Home\forms\webutil\sign_webutil Oracle_Home\forms\java\jacob.jar
    4) If you already have a schema in your RDBMS which contains the WebUtil stored code,
    you may skip this step. Otherwise,
    Create a schema to hold the WebUtil stored code, and privileges needed to
    connect and create a stored package. Schema name "WEBUTIL" is recommended
    for no reason other than consistency over the user base.
    Open Oracle_Home\forms\create_webutil_db.sql in a text editor, and delete or comment
    out the EXIT statement, to be able to see whether the objects were created witout
    errors.
    Start SQL*Plus as SYSTEM, and issue:
    CREATE USER webutil IDENTIFIED BY [password]
    DEFAULT TABLESPACE users
    TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
    GRANT CONNECT, CREATE PROCEDURE, CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TO webutil;
    CONNECT webutil/webutil@rcci
    @Oracle_Home\forms\create_webutil_db.sql
    -- Inspect SQL*Plus output for errors, and then
    CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM webutil_db FOR webutil.webutil_db;
    Reconnect as SYSTEM, and issue:
    grant execute on webutil_db to public;
    5) Modify Oracle_Home\forms\server\default.env, and append Oracle_Home\jdk\jre\lib\rt.jar
    to the CLASSPATH entry.
    6) Modify Oracle_Home\forms\server\formsweb.cfg insde [default] add :
    archive_jini=frmall_jinit.jar,frmwebutil.jar,jacob.jar
    archive=frmall.jar
    also add :
    [webutil]
    WebUtilLogging=off
    WebUtilLoggingDetail=normal
    WebUtilErrorMode=Alert
    WebUtilDispatchMonitorInterval=5
    WebUtilTrustInternal=true
    WebUtilMaxTransferSize=16384
    baseHTMLjinitiator=webutiljini.htm
    baseHTMLjpi=webutiljpi.htm
    baseHTML=webutilbase.htm
    archive_jini=frmall_jinit.jar
    WebUtilArchive=frmwebutil.jar,jacob.jar,f90all.jar
    archive=frmwebutil.jar,f90all.jar
    lookAndFeel=oracle
    7) Modify Oracle_Home\forms\server\webutil.cfg and add :
    transfer.database.enabled=TRUE
    transfer.appsrv.enabled=TRUE
    8) Start the OC4J instance
    9) Start Forms Builder and connect to a schema in the RDBMS used in step (4).
    Open webutil.pll, do a "Compile ALL" (shift-Control-K), and generate to PLX (Control-T).
    It is important to generate the PLX, to avoid the FRM-40039 discussed in Note 303682.1
    If the PLX is not generated, the Webutil.pll library would have to be attached with
    full path information to all forms wishing to use WebUtil. This is NOT recommended.
    10) Create a new FMB.
    Open webutil.olb, and Subclass (not Copy) the Webutil object to the form.
    There is no need to Subclass the WebutilConfig object.
    Attach the Webutil.pll Library, and remove the path.
    Add an ON-LOGON trigger with the code
    NULL;
    to avoid having to connect to an RDBMS (optional).
    Create a new button on a new canvas, with the code
    show_webutil_information (TRUE);
    in a WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger.
    Compile the FMB to FMX, after doing a Compile-All (Shift-Control-K).
    11) Under Edit->Preferences->Runtime in Forms Builder, click on "Reset to Default" if
    the "Application Server URL" is empty.
    Then append "?config=webutil" at the end, so you end up with a URL of the form
    http://server:port/forms/frmservlet?config=webutil
    12) Run your form.

  • Execute_query not showing the  -WORKING ...-  Message on Forms 10g

    Hello,
    There is a strange thing happening with our Forms that were migrated to 10g.
    1) Our keys were remapped to the ones used in the 6i Version. For example: CTL+L is F9
    2) When a user presses F7 and then F8, on Forms 6i, we have the sequence of message:
    Enter a query; press F8, CTRL+q to cancel
    then
    Working ...
    and finally we get the records.
    However on Forms 10g, we have when a user presses F7 and then F8 :
    Enter a query; press F8, CTRL+q to cancel
    and the message -WORKING...- is not shown and after a while we get the records.
    There are no message_level before the enter_query or execute_query and there is no :system.suppress_working in the form.
    What could be the problem ?

    1) Our keys were remapped to the ones used in the 6i Version. For example: CTL+L is F9 Key mapping is controlled by the file fmrweb.res in path <DevSuiteHome_1 path>/forms/
    Forms 10g is released with a unix style file where Ctrl+L is mapped to List of Values. There is an alternate file named fmrpcweb.res that maps F9 to List of Values. By renaming fmrweb.res to something else, and copying fmrpcweb.res to fmrweb.res, you will get the PC platform functionality.
    You can edit the Web Forms fmrweb.res file using a text editor to tailor the function keys any way you need.
    and the message -WORKING...- is not shown and after a while we get the records.Hmmm.... I tried that with a simple "default" test form, and indeed, the working... message does NOT appear, even when I set the Query Array size and Records Buffered properties to 1000 and queried a very large table. Why don't you open a Service Request with Oracle, and report back if you find a solution.

  • Arabic characters are displaying as question marks in forms 10g

    We have migrated our application from forms 6i to forms 10g and now in forms 10g the arabic characters are displaying as question marks while it displays correctly in the old application using forms 6i. I have already set the character set to AR8MSWIN1256 in the registry, but it didn't help. Somebody please help.

    @ Sarah, Al-Salamu Alikum We Rahmatu Allah we Barakatu,
    Sarah Habibty, why new installation ? In order to select a new suitable character set !!!
    Then creating a new instance from the db is a better alternative since it saves time,effort and another back up of his current db is exist safely if needed for any purposes in the future.
    @Amer,honestly speaking...
    Modifing ur NLS_LANG to > AMERICAN_AMERICA.AR8MSWIN1256
    Works for me in both Arabic and English data in 2 applications.This works in my pc.But it didn't works at my boss pc this can happened don't have any reason for that.!!!!
    i spent lot's of time trying to search but what i had got is that solution i suggested by a friend of mine.
    Now please could you advise me, is it better to create a new instance of database as Amatu Allah has suggested or is it better to change the character set through sql as some others have suggested? Again i suggest to select the short cut way ; to reset the character set through sql after taking a back up from ur data that is currently exist.
    then retest again doing the select and test ur data input and retrieval.
    SQL> select * from v$nls_parameters
    2 where parameter in ('NLS_CHARACTERSET','NLS_LANGUAGE');watching the output if it works that's fine saving ur time & effort .
    if not working with the correct NLS_CHARACTERSET then use my previous solution.
    Hope this helps...

  • Automation Testing on Webcenter Sites

    Hello,
    How do I automate content creation using any automated test tool?
    Thanks,
    Sushanth

    This question can be approached from two perspectives:
    - is your task to create automated tests, or
    - is your task to automate content creation?
    If the former, there is a number of tools (both commercial and open source) which can automate test scenarios on web-based applications. Oracle has one too, called Oracle Application Testing Suite.
    If the latter, there might be better means than generic testing tools. Take a look at this article: http://manifesto.co.uk/using-webcenter-sites-rest-api-part-1/?goback=.gde_142076_member_5809268750695821313#!
    which describes REST API. Also, if you use WebCenter Content as you content repository, you could use Batch Loader, or RIDC interface.

  • Where is default icons location in oracle form 10g

    hi,
    Can anybody please tell me, where is the default(given below) icons location in oracle form 10g. I want to user that icons in my form.
    Image: !c:\icons.gif!
    thanks
    mohan

    Hi,
    Is your problem solved?
    This issue occurs because gif images by default are not still images. These are graphical interchange images, i.e. images depicting some kind of action/motion.
    If I am not wrong then just to test this out if you open the gif image you are looking at, in pbrush then image will appear in a corner. Now if you modify that image such that you copy only the icon in the corner and then save the copied icon in a new file in gif format then you will be able to see that image in the centre of button, rather over complete button.
    Hope this helps!

  • Oracle Forms 10G not working as Oracle Forms 6i

    Hi everyone,
    I have a form which gets called from another form through a list of value. The called form(second form) has a group of tabbed canvases which get displayed depending on the parameters passed from the first form.
    The Form is working prefectly fine in Forms 6i but when I converted the same form in to forms 10G it does not seem to work the same way. The tabbed canvasses are not getting displayed. I am manually having to press the execute query to get data displayed in the tabbed canvasses. I checked the parameters that are being passed and they are the same as that in Forms 6i.
    Please let me know where my 10G Form is going wrong. Appreciate your help, please send me an email on [email protected]
    Thanks

    :System.message_level has nothing to do with how you check the flow of execution, or whether you use the Message statement. :System.Message_Level is a Forms variable that can be set to a numeric value. If you set it > 0, it hides error messages, which you should NOT do. Is there anywhere in your form where it is set? If there is, make sure it is set to zero while you are testing.
    <P>Since you are using regular message statements to debug (Re: Zdebug -- Download a Forms debugging message tool), you should determine if the process that sets up the tabbed canvases is being executed.

  • Storing an Excel File in the Oracle Table through Oracle Form (10g)

    Hi,
    We have the below requirement in the Oracle Forms (10g).
    Database: 11g
    Application: R12
    We need to provide an upload functionality to the user, so that he can upload an excel file into the form (from the local system), this is achived.
    Now what we need to do is that we need to capture the path of the document (in the local system) and we need to store the document in a Oracle table.
    Next we need to validate the records that are being loaded and the error records should be written into one more file and that file also we need to store in an Oracle table, this is because, i need to query this error file from the table later and need to send to the user as an e-mail.
    Basically i started off with the below code just for the POC. but iam facing the error. Please help. I did not put this code in my form.
