Forms & Stored Procedures

I want to create a form with 3 fields that will allow info to be entered and have a button. When the button is clicked, I want the form fields to be used with the stored procedure. How can I call this parameter driven stored procedure from this form?

Hi, I have following questions regarding this posting:
1. What is the block_name refering below? I used oracle portal to build the form based on tables. I have item types such as textbox, combobox. Each item has a label name. I am assuming that the item1, item2, item3 you are refering below are the the lable names for those items. Is it correct?
2. Do I put the code - myproc(:block_name.item_name1,:block_name.item_name2,:block_nam.item_name3); in the PL/SQL Code section or in the PL/SQL button Event Handler section?
Thanks.
Daphne

Hi
To pass parameter from Form to stored proc. You can refere
:Block_name.item_name
e.g. if your procedure name is myproc then you can refere
myproc(:block_name.item_name1,:block_name.item_name2,:block_nam.item_name3);
Hope this help<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

  • How to execute .sql file in Stored Procedure?

    Hi,
    I have an urgent requirement, where i have to execute .sql file form Stored Procedure.
    This .sql file will have set of update statement. I need to pass value to this update statement.
    Kindly please help me.
    Regards,
    Irfan

    This is required as part of Data Migration where  i have to do 100 of table's update. Each time update table will defer, so its better to have in separate script file (.sql). Can u paste some sample/syntax to exceute .sql file from stored procedure. I am new to this PL/SQL.
    How have you determined that it's "better" to have seperate scripts?  I assume you mean the table name will "differ" (and not "defer" - I assume that's just because English isn't your first language? no problem - I think I understand what you're asking).
    So what I think you're asking is that you have dynamic table names but each table needs to be updated in the same way?
    Question: Why do you have tables with different names that all need the same process doing to them?
    Assuming it's a valid requirement (and 99% of the time doing dynamic coding implies it's not).... you could use dynamic code, rather than 'scripts'...
    e.g.
    create procedure update_table(tbl_name varchar2) is
    begin
      execute immediate 'update '||tbl_name||' set lastupdate = null';
    end;
    As you haven't bothered to provide a database version, any example code/data or explanation of what you're actually doing, you're not going to get any detailed answer.  Please do take the time to read the FAQ and post appropriate details so people can help you.

  • Passing parameters from vb form to a crystal report with stored procedure

    Can someone give me an idea how to use data inputted on vb form to be use as basis of crystal report generation which loads data from a stored procedure. Stored procedure has parameters that was also set in the crystal report. viewing on crystal report is ok but i am having difficulty running the report from vb.

    Hi John,
                  If Not CRRpt.ParameterFields("AgeType") Is Nothing Then
                        CRRpt.ParameterFields("AgeType").CurrentValues.Clear()
                        Dim ParamValue As new CrystalDecisions.Shared.ParameterDiscreteValue
                        ParamValue.Value = AgeType.ToString
                        CRRpt.ParameterFields("AgeType").CurrentValues.Add(ParamValue)
                    End If
    Note that the ParamValue.Value should be assigned with exact same data type as you declared it in CR.
    If it is string, Convert your Variable to string first.
    If it is date, make sure you are passing a date variable.
    and so on...

    Do you still have the Apply MRU process running? I assume you do because otherwise you wouldn't receive the error message. Is the process you are talking about running before the Apply MRU process? It seems it does. Try chaning the execution sequence and run this process after the automatic MRU process.

  • How do i handle out parameter from a stored procedure in a vb form?

    hi all,
    I want to return a varchar2(500) type of out parameter from a pl/sql stored procedure to a vb form?? how do i do this??
    regards
    akshay

    Well, when you create the parameter collection for your command object, just set the correct value for the direction component.
    You would set it to one of the below, depending on if the parameter is IN OUT or only OUT:
            <parameter_obj>.Direction = ParameterDirectionEnum.adParamInputOutput
            <parameter_obj>.Direction = ParameterDirectionEnum.adParamOutput

  • How do I get data to the from in a form based on a stored procedure

    I would like to create a form based on a stored procedure. I have bound LOV's that lookup the ID of the data that is to be displayed on the form. Then I have a button that reads the database and populates the fields on the form. This is our current UI standard on our portal site, and I need to copy that UI exactly in order to mix HTML DB code with our current portal code because we can not afford to re-write all our code in portal to HTML DB. Can this be done, and how can it be done? Thanks

    We are developing an entire HR system for our organization using portal forms. I am trying to prototype in HTML DB to see if we can switch our future development to this new product. However, we already have 50 or so forms that follow a certain user interface look and feel in portal. I am trying to create this interface look and feel in HTML DB. What we are doing in Portal is have a lookup section at the top of each form where you find the record you want to update with LOV's, sometimes 2 or 3 bound together, and then have a lookup button that does PL/SQL to read the database and populate the fields on the form. Then there is an Update button at the end of the form that takes the fields off the form and passes them to a stored procedure. I can not figure out how to do the Lookup button type of code to read information and bring it to the form when doing a form based on a stored procedure.

  • Form based on Front End (Form based program Unit -Stored Procedure)

    Hi
    I have a form based on a front end package.
    Package spec:
    PACKAGE fpkg_csm_stud IS
    type stud_rec is record
    (s_id student.s_id%type
    ,s_last student.s_last%type
    ,s_first student.s_first%type);
    type stud_ref_cur is ref cursor return stud_rec;
    type stud_rec_tbl is table of stud_rec index by binary_integer;
    procedure sp_student_query(iotb_query IN OUT stud_ref_cur)
    END;
    Package Body
    PACKAGE BODY fpkg_csm_stud IS
    procedure sp_student_query(iotb_query IN OUT stud_ref_cur)is
    begin
         open iotb_query for
              Select s_id
              ,s_first
              ,s_last
              from student;
    end sp_student_query;
    END;
    I have a datablock, STUDENt based on "fpkg_csm_stud.sp_student_query"
    When I query the form I get an error, FRM-40505, on 9iAS.
    However, if I created the same package as a stored database object, and based my form datablock on the database stored procedure everything works fine. I cannot find a reason why.
    I know that forms can be based on front end based procedures OR backend based procs. Dont have a clue here, any help is great.
    Thanks
    Vijay

    Hello Vijay,
    as far as i know there is no way to base a block on a 'front end stored procedure',
    assumed that you mean a package in a library or form.
    But what should be the reason for doing so, or the other way 'round why not just use a database package?

  • Need to call an Oracle Form from a stored procedure, any suggestions.

    I have a stored procedure which runs on our 8i database on a scheduled basis. I have an Oracle Form (6i) that needs to be called automatically from this stored procedure. Any suggestions on how I might accomplish this?
    Thanks,

    You might be able to do this using a java stored procedure. I think you need to have version 8.1.6 or above to java stored procedures. Here's a couple of links that might help.

  • Calling stored procedure in Oracle forms

    I have a stored procedure in Oracle which is declared as follows in the package
    SFCS1.Company_Selection(O_Cursor IN OUT T_Cursor, cls IN Varchar2);
    Where T_Cursor is defined as a Ref Cursor
    From the Oracle forms I'm using the following code
    SFCS1.Company_Selection(A,my_cls);
    go_block('Block50');
    Execute_Query;
    I get the error message "FRM40505:Oracle Error: Unable to Perform Query". If I hardcode the value of my_cls in the query it runs properly. Any solutions will be really helpful
    Further to this, I want to put the single quotes around a value (for eg. 'A') from a variable. For instance I'm getting a value from my_cls and for the output I want to surround it with the single quotes, can somebody tell me how to do it.
    Thanks in advance

    This is a bit of a roundabout way to do it? Try setting up the block data source as procedure and set the values in the property palette of the data block.
    e.g.
    Query Data Source Type = Procedure
    Query Data Source Name = SFCS1.Company_Selection
    Query Data Source Columns = (Whatever columns/items you have in your datablock)
    Query Data Source Arguments = Argument names are your ref cursor and your variable.
    Check out basing data blocks on Ref Cursors.

  • Calling Stored procedure in Oracle 11g from Oracle forms developer 6i

    We have Oracle 11g (11.1.0.7.0 ) database (64 bit) installed on Windows Server 2008.
    In this database, we have stored procedure ABC(arg1) which is accesing a table in another instance through DB LINK. If we EXECUTE this procedure from SQL/TOAD. It runs successfully and generates the desired output.
    If we write the contents of the stored procedure in the PROGRAM UNIT / ANY TRIGGER in FORM 6i then also, It runs successfully and generates the desired output.
    It is also mentioned, that if we try to use any table in the same instance (and not through DBLINK) then it works fine.
    However, if we try to call this stored procedure (which is  accesing a table in another instance through DB LINK) from  ORACLE FORMS  6i  in WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger then the FORM BUILDER gets hanged while compiling the form developed in FORMS 6i.
    Please provide a solution to this problem.
    THANKS IN ADVANCE.
    Hemant Singh.
    Asstt. Manager(IT)
    Software development team.

    Forms 6i was never meant to run against a 11g database, this was not tested and is also not supported.Well, that is not completely true. Developer 6i is supported against a 11g database, but only for Oracle Apps R11. That means that for most other customers (not Apps) Forms 6i will work against an 11g database. However, only Apps R11 is supported, and patches are only created specifically for Apps. We are also running Forms 6i against an 11g database without (well, minor) problems.
    In this case, you need to find a solution. You can try to put the stored procedure in a package. The package body, with the reference to the remote table, will be hidden from Forms this way.

  • Help: FORMS based on stored procedures

    I am working on a FORM based on stored procedures. This particular FORM performs a query and generates say,
    customer_name, item1_sale, item2_sale and sum of the item1_sale and item2_sale.
    I'd like to know if there are ways that the query procedure returns to reference cursors that one with multiple records and one with the sums? The FORM will then be able to show rows of sales and the bottom row with show the sale totals.
    Thank you in advance.
    Jimmy

    Francois,
    I just tried another way of getting the totals. I manually created a data block and add two items tot_1 and tot_2. I the item properties: I set calculation:
    calculation Mode: Summary
    Summary Function: Sum
    Sumary Block: BLOCK_A
    Summary Item: item1_sale etc.,
    I got a compile error:
    FRM-30377: Summary item must reside in single-record block or in same block as summarized item.
    Where do I catch this error?
    Thanks.

  • How to use Stored Procedures in form 6i Blocks

    Dear Friends,
    I would like to know how to use Stored Procedures while creating blocks in Data Block Wizard in forms 6i application.
    Please send me sample code of stored procedure.
    Regards,
    Khader.

    The Data Block Wizard is not for creating stored procedures. It will allow you to use a stored procedure in your form. See the help documentation for how to use the wizard.
    Here's an example of a simple procedure. If you search the database forum or the web, you will find many examples.
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE procedure_name (value OUT NUMBER ) AS
    BEGIN
    SELECT COUNT(*) INTO value
    FROM your_table;
    END;

  • Calling stored procedure from Developer/2000 Forms 6.0

    Dear friends,
    I would like to know how do you call a stored procedure(actually a function) that I have made in Oracle 8i , to be called through Developer 2000 Forms 6.0. I am running Oracle 8i on Windows NT.
    Kindly tell me the method.
    Thanks in advance.

    You can just call the procedure in any program unit in Forms as if it were a local program unit or built-in.
    Thus if you have a function:
    function CalculateSomething return number;
    In Forms 6i, for example in a When-Button-Pressed trigger:
    declare
    n number;
    begin
    n := CalculateSomething;
    end;
