FormsReports integ ? - show report issue

I'm having trouble getting a report to show after a button click in a Form. The report is directed to desfile c:\temp\SampleReport.pdf.
Call to the report is typical:
repid := FIND_REPORT_OBJECT('SAMPLE_REPORT');
v_rep := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(repid);
But this will not show the report when testing the Form using iDS. Adding
web.show_document('file:///C:/temp/SampleReport.pdf','_blank');
does not seem to help because the iDS Forms servelet will not find this file (gives page not found error; though cut-n-paste of this adress to IE shows the output). I tried changing the forms.conf to alias "/forms/test" to this directory and then
web.show_documen('http://<host>:<port>/forms/test/SampleReport.pdf','_blank');
but again no result. Seems iDS does not process this reference to show the file.
I see suggestions of using webutil for client operations but this contrdicts the concept of having the form coded the same regardless of running it on iDS or iAS My code should run in my TEST environment. I do have access to an iAS environment but wish to resolve why iDS won't behave in a way that allows emulation of the iAS solution.
Anyone got any ideas of what I can tweak to let iDS respond to the show_doc and show my report? Or should I just give up and go to the old build local-> save .fmb -> compile to .fmx -> post .fmx to iAS server -> try with local browser -> repeat routine. To do this means iDS is useless for integration testing (and I don't think Oracle intended this; or did they??? ;-))

I have already looked at the integration papers. They give the generic situation. I have followed the techniques outlined there. But I cannot get 10gDS to allow a call of a report from a Form. Consistently presents a "failed to communicate with process" error. I can separately run the Form and the report (from 10gReport Builder) but a call from the Form to the Report always fails.
This is why I was hoping someone else experienced this situation and would know what to "tweak" to get things working. I do realize that more specifics may be needed for my config; I'll provide those when requested.
