Forte 6U2 - poor performance of std::map::operator[]

I discovered to my horror this morning that Forte 6U2 implementation of std::map (at least at the patch level I'm working with) ALWAYS default constructs a value_type when operator[] is invoked - even if value_type already exists in the map.
Any reasonable STL implementation first uses lower bound to search, and failing to find an appropriate element, uses the resulting iterator as an insertion hint, only then default constructing a value_type (and therefore a mapped_type) element.
The existing implementation in Forte 6U2 imposes an absurd penalty on the use of the subscript operator when mapped_type's default construction semantics are non-trivial. While "correct" in the sense that the contract for std::map::operator[] is met, I cannot imagine that this was an intentional design choice given the performance implications. How can I get this issue addressed?

Well, I wasn't making any claim about the efficiency of the underlying tree representation - only the fact that operator[] unconditionally default constructs a mapped_type object, even if there is already an appropriate element in the map, which is no good at all. I'll try your request for enhancement thing though...
While I would very much like to switch to using STLport vs. the RW stl, a compiler upgrade is not the answer here.

  • Poor performance in Repository mapping test tool (7.0.12)

    Hi,
I'm just looking for some hints for performance tuning the Mapping tool in the Repository. This is our Development machine.
Seems to be significantly worse since upgrade from sps 10 to sps 12.
Every "display queue" / recompile of the map takes almost 5 minutes.
The Java stack currently has about 4gb of heap, abap 1gb.  We reallocated a large amount from abap to java which temporarily alleviated the problem (about 60% quicker), but it's back after a few days.  There is currently no possibility of adding more memory.
The problem seems to be noticable primarily with the IB, hence I'm looking for any performance tuning tips that would directly affect this.  I'm thinking that we need to concentrate on the Java stack.  I've looked at note 894509 and SAP NetWeaver Process Integration Tuning Guide and not seen anything directly related at first glance.
    I've deactivated end-to-end monitoring.
The only thing that stands out is a significant amount of activity on the disk with the sap/oracledb/oracleexec on it.  It's about 9 times greater than the amount of swap.  Two processes seem to be regularly at the top of CPU usage dw.sapPID_DVEBMGS14 and /usr/sap/PID/DVEBMG.
Hints and tips appreciated.  As I said, hardware changes are not possible at this time.
    Thanks
    James.
Yes, points will be awarded where appropriate.

Are you gacing this issue only when you  test the mapping in the IR or even in the runtime?
I have also noticed that mapping test in the tool in IR always take a long time, but as they never reflect the runtime mapping perfromance I have always ignored it.
    A few reasons might be,
    1. Low RAM on the Machine being used by you.
    2. Too Many applications!
Remember you are Connecting to the server from your IR using JWS and so the resources on your machine also matter quite a bit.
If completely off track , ignore the reply.

  • Poor performance of my Z60M, found disabling AcSvc.exe improves performance

I have a Z60M using XP, and have poor performance due to processor operating at near 100%,  I found that the process ScSvc.exe had most of the CPU.  I ended the process, and have an operable machine again.   I downloaded the latest version of ScSvc, but that did not correct the problem.
I am tempted to disable all the thinkpad software and go to a pure XP system, but have not done any looking into that.
Has anyone experienced these problems, or disabled the thinkpad software?

    Tables/Indexes last analyzed today.
I figured out that it was the Oracle Text indexes synching to frequently that was causing the problem. I disabled all the jobs that kicked off those indexes and my CPU utilization dropped to almost 0%. I will work on tuning the interval/re-enabling the indexes for my dynamic datasources.
    Thank you for everyone's suggestions!
    Mimi

  • Apple maps has received a poor performance rating just after introduction of the iPhone 5. I am running google maps app on the phone. Siri cannot seem to get me to a specific address. Where does the problem lie? Thanks.

Apple maps has received a poor performance rating just after introduction of the iPhone 5. I am running Google Maps app on the phone. SIRI cannot seem to get me to a specific address. Where does the problem lie? Also can anyone tell me the hierarchy of use between the Apple Maps, SIRI, and Google maps when the app is on the phone? How do you choose one over the other as the default map usage? Or better still how do you suppress SIRI from using the Apple maps app when requesting a "go to"?
I have placed an address location into the CONTACTS list and when I ask SIRI to "take me there" it found a TOTALLY different location in the metro area with the same street name. I have included the address, the quadrant, (NE) and the ZIP code into the CONTACTS list. As it turns out, no amount of canceling the trip or relocating the address in the CONTACTS list line would prevent SIRI from taking me to this bogus location. FINALLY I typed in Northeast for NE in the CONTACTS list (NE being the accepted method of defining the USPS location quadrant) , canceled the current map route and it finally found the correct address. This problem would normally not demand such a response from me to have it fixed but the address is one of a hospital in the center of town and this hospital HAS a branch location in a similar part of town (NOT the original address SIRI was trying to take me to). This screw up could be dangerous if not catastrophic to someone who was looking for a hospital location fast and did not know of these two similar locations. After all the whole POINT of directions is not just whimsical pasttime or convenience. In a pinch people need to rely on this function. OR, are my expectations set too high?
How does the iPhone select between one app or the other (Apple Maps or Gppgle Maps) as it relates to SIRI finding and showing a map route?
Why does SIRI return an address that is NOT the correct address nor is the returned location in the requested ZIP code?
Is there a known bug in the CONTACTS list that demands the USPS quadrant ID be spelled out, as opposed to abreviated, to permit SIRI to do its routing?
Thanks for any clarification on these matters.

siri will only use apple maps, this cannot be changed. you could try google voice in the google app.

  • Poor performance of maps

Does anyone know of any configuration parameters that are really useful when attempting to tweak the performance of the maps in OBIEE 11.1.1.5? Although I'm the only user on a virtual box with 4GB of RAM and 2 CPUs, map rendering is painfully slow. (XML posted below, working against the "A - Sample Sales" subject area). All other OBIEE performance is quite snappy. Maps ... not so much.
    Any ideas?

  • General poor performance of my Mac mini

I have been using my mac mini for over a year, it continues to frustrate me how slow and unresponsive it can be even though I do very little with it, i.e organise photos and browse the web - usually looking for solutions to the poor performance problem!
I came a cross this app that has given me lots of information, unfortunately with my limited IT know-how there is nothing here that gives me any clues, as to the cause of the problem. I guess the red font is not good?
I'm sorry i can't be more specific about the problem other than to say that iPhoto and Safari the two programmes i use way more often than any other, keep giving me the beach ball. My internet speed is ok 25 Mbps down - 4.5 Mbps
Is there anything here that stands out as being wrong? if so any suggestions/ instructions for what I should do?
p.s. i had to quit Safari while writing this and have a report for this if it helps?
    Any help much appreciated.

My mac is just generally very slow. I only use it to look at the internet and manage photos.

    Hi Linc Davis
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
I got this information from a time when I was opening up iPhoto, and then going to the iCloud folder. To be honest it wasn't the most disastrous of events, I did get a few beachballs and when I opened up a shared folder the photos weren't loaded as normal. As I get more lengthy delays in carrying out any activities I will post back the console results.
Just as a bit more info, I don't consider my problem an update to Yosemite problem, if anything since updating performance has been improved from Mavericks.
Do you have any comments about upgrading RAM from the 4GB I have?
Should I act on any of the messages in red from the EtreCheck report?
    Many Thanks
    Duncan

  • Poor performance with WebI and BW hierarchy drill-down...

    Hi
We are currently implementing a large HR solution with BW as backend
and WebI and Xcelcius as frontend. As part of this we are experiencing
very poor performance when doing drill-down in WebI on a BW hierarchy.
In general we are experiencing ok performance during selection of data
and traditional WebI filtering - however when using the BW hierarchy
for navigation within WebI, response times are significantly increasing.
The general solution setup are as follows:
    1) Business Content version of the personnel administration
infoprovider - 0PA_C01. The Infoprovider contains 30.000 records
    2) Multiprovider to act as semantic Data Mart layer in BW.
    3) Bex Query to act as Data Mart Query and metadata exchange for BOE.
All key figure restrictions and calculations are done in this Data Mart
    Query.
    4) Traditionel BO OLAP universe 1:1 mapped to Bex Data Mart query. No
calculations etc. are done in the universe.
    5) WebI report with limited objects included in the WebI query.
As we are aware that performance is an very subjective issues we have
created several case scenarios with different dataset sizes, various
filter criteria's and modeling techniques in BW.
Furthermore we have tried to apply various traditional BW performance
tuning techniques including aggregates, physical partitioning and pre-
calculation - all without any luck (pre-calculation doesn't seem to
work at all as WebI apparently isn't using the BW OLAP cache).
In general the best result we can get is with a completely stripped WebI report without any variables etc.
and a total dataset of 1000 records transferred to WebI. Even in this scenario we can't get
each navigational step (when using drill-down on Organizational Unit
hierarchy - 0ORGUNIT) to perform faster than minimum 15-20 seconds per.
    navigational step.
That is each navigational step takes 15-20 seconds
with only 1000 records in the WebI cache when using drill-down on org.
    unit hierachy !!.
Running the same Bex query from Bex Analyzer with a full dataset of
30.000 records on lowest level of detail returns a threshold of 1-2
seconds pr. navigational step thus eliminating that this should be a BW
    modeling issue.
As our productive scenario obviously involves a far larger dataset as
well as separate data from CATS and PT infoproviders we are very
worried if we will ever be able to utilize hierarchy drill-down from
    WebI ?.
The question is as such if there are any known performance issues
related to the use of BW hierarchy drill-down from WebI and if so are
there any ways to get around them ?.
As an alternative we are currently considering changing our reporting
strategy by creating several higher aggregated reports to avoid
hierarchy navigation at all. However we still need to support specific
division and their need to navigate the WebI dataset without
limitations which makes this issue critical.
Hope that you are able to help.
    Thanks in advance
    /Frank

Hi Henry, thank you for your suggestions although i´m not agree with you that 20 seconds is pretty good for that navigation step. The same query executed with BEx Analyzer takes only 1-2 seconds to do the drill down.
    Actions
suppress unassigned nodes in RSH1: Magic!! This was the main problem!!
tick use structure elements in RSRT: Done it.
enable query stripping in WebI: Done it.
upgrade your BW to SP09: Has the SP09 some inprovements in relation to this point ?
use more runtime query filters. : Not possible. Very simple query.
    Others:
RSRT combination H-1-3-3-1 (Expand nodes/Permanent Cache BLOB)
Uncheck prelimirary Hierarchy presentation in Query. only selected.
Check "Use query drill" in webi properties.
Sorry for this mixed message but when i was answering i tryied what you suggest in relation with supress unassigned nodes and it works perfectly. This is what is cusing the bottleneck!! incredible...
    Thanks a lot

  • Poor Performance in ETL SCD Load

    Hi gurus,
We are facing some serious performance problems during an UPDATE step, which is part of a SCD type 2 process for Assets (SIL_Vert/SIL_AssetDimension_SCDUpdate). The source system is Siebel CRM. The tools for ETL processing are listed below:
    Informatica PowerCenter 9.1.0 HotFix2 0902 357 (R181 D90)
Oracle BI Data Warehouse Administration Console (Dac Build AN 10.1.3.4.1.patch.20120711.0516)
The OOTB mapping for this step is a simple SELECT command - which retrieves historical records from the Dimension to be updated - and the Target table (W_ASSET_D), with no UPDATE Strategy. The session is configured to always perform UPDATEs. We also have set $$UDATE_ALL_HISTORY to "N" in DAC: this way we are only selecting the most recent records from the Dimension history, and the only columns that are effectively updated are the system columns of SCD (EFFECTIVE_FROM_DT, EFFECTIVE_TO_DT, CURRENT_FLG, ...).
The problem is that the UPDATE command is executed individually by Informatica Powercenter, for each record in W_ASSET_D. For a number of 2.486.000 UPDATEs, we had ~2h of processing - a very poor performance for only one ETL step. Our W_ASSET_D has ~150M records today.
    Some questions for the above:
    - is this an expected average execution duration for this number of records?
    - updates record by record are not optimal, this could be easily overcome by a BULK COLLECT/FORALL method. Is there a way to optimize the method used by Informatica or we need to write our own PL-SQL script and run it in DAC?
    Thanks in advance,
    Guilherme

  • Poor performance scorecard Internet Explorer

When using Internet Explorer (8) the performance of the scorecard module ( strategy map, KPI's, watch list) is VERY POOR.
Both, when running as end user and also while developing scorecards its very time consuming.
In contrast to Firefox. Internet Explorer is a factor 10 slower.
For example, opening a strategy tree with 20 KPI's within Firefox is 1 second
The same action within IE is 10 seconds.
Are there any options within IE (or OBIEE) to solve the poor performance issue?
    Regards,
    Marcel

    Hi,
As I known, with a 64-bit OS, for compatibility reason, the 32-bit IE is your Default browser, not the 64-bit. Most often a difference in performance is seen between the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Internet Explorer is more due to the add-ons enabled on
the 32-bit version. Most add-ons aren’t yet compatible with 64-bit Internet Explorer, so the list of enabled add-ons is much shorter.
If you are experiencing noticeably slower performance when using Internet Explorer 32-bit, try using Tools > Manage Add-ons to disable unnecessary add-ons. You can also temporarily disable all add-ons to see the performance difference between running
with an add-on enabled and disabled.
For better support, we would like to confirm the detailed issue you found on IE 64.
    Hope it helps.

  • Problem with variadic macros, Forte 6U2

The following code demonstrates a problem with namespace qualifiers used in variadic macros. The workaround (if you want to call it that) is to use triple colons as the scope resolution operator inside certain cases of variadic macros. The following piece of very contrived code demonstrates the problem. If you look at preproccessed output, its pretty clear that the variadic macro eats colons.
    unix experiments/C++/badmacros> cat badmacros.cpp

OK - that is good to hear. OTOH, I think I've found another one. The following code builds properly whether or not DEFINE_IN_CLASS_BODY is set on both g++ 3.0.1 and on the online comeau C++ compiler. However, in Forte 6U2, if DEFINE_IN_CLASS_BODY is not set, compilation fails.

    template<typename T> inline T * Factory::create() const {
       return reinterpret_cast<T*>(create());

This last compile works fine. Using Forte6U2, all the latest patches installed.

  • Patch problem with Forte 6U2?

I just installed all of the patches currently up at access1 for Forte 6U2 on solaris 8. When I rebuilt, I got the following
Error: The destructor name must match the class name.
while building the following code fragment:
       template<typename T>

// much later in same header

        table<T>::node::~node()
}The error occurs on the out-of-body inline delcaration of table<T>::node::~node() above.
This code compiled fine with previous patches, and works correctly under gcc3.1 and gcc3.2.
    CC -v gives me:
    CC: Sun WorkShop 6 update 2 C++ 5.3 Patch 111685-10 2002/09/16
    Any information would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I think you and I have different definitions of "status".
Search Failed == Not Fixed seems like a pretty coarse status measurement to me, and a poor interface to boot. If I had a support contract, would I actually be able to read a description of the bug as it is currently filed from suns perspective? What could possibly be so expensive about giving read access to an existing defect database ( esp. when compared with the cost of fixing defects ) that you need to charge to underwrite it? Does it not strike you as almost punitive to require payment from those users who found, tested, and submitted defects for the right to track the status of those defects? Please, please, please explain the rationale behind this to me. I find the whole approach infuriating, unnecessarily opaque, and counterproductive.
Am I interested in finding out that the defect is fixed. Yes. But what is far more important to me is to know that you are actually doing something about it. This critical piece of information is sorely lacking in the current system, especially given the number of defects I have submitted, which were assigned bug IDs, but which have never been fixed in any patch.
http://sunsolve.sun.com is the website you could check
the status of the bug. Search for the bug ID, if it's
not found, then the patch for it is not released.
Otherwise, you will see the patch ID. I don't think
you need to have contract to surf the website.

  • Poor Performance with Fairpoint DSL

I started using Verizon DSL for my internet connection and had no problems. When Fairpoint Communications purchased Verizon (this is in Vermont), they took over the DSL (about May 2009). Since then, I have had very poor performance with all applications as soon as I start a browser. The performance problems occur regardless of the browser - I've tried Firefox (3.5.4), Safari (4.0.3) and Opera (10.0). I've been around and around with Fairpoint for 6 months with no resolution. I have not changed any software or hardware on my Mac during that time, except for updating the browsers and Apple updates to the OS, iTunes, etc. The performance problems continued right through these updates. I've run tests to check my internet speed and get times of 2.76Mbps (download) and 0.58Mbps (upload) which are within the specified limits for the DSL service. My Mac is a 2GHz PowerPC G5 runnning OSX 10.4.11. It has 512MB DDR SDRAM. I use a Westell Model 6100 modem for the DSL provided by Verizon.
Some of the specific problems I see are:
    1. very long waits of more than a minute after a click on an item in the menu bar
    2. very long waits of more than two minutes after a click on an item on a browser page
    3. frequent pinwheels in response to a click on a menu item/browser page item
    4. frequent pinwheels if I just move the mouse without a click
    5. frequent messages for stopped/unresponsive scripts
    6. videos (like YouTube) stop frequently for no reason; after several minutes, I'll get a little audio but no new video; eventually after several more minutes it will get going again (both video and audio)
    7. response in non-browser applications is also very slow
    8. sometimes will get no response at all to a mouse click
    9. trying to run more than one browser at a time will bring the Mac to its knees
    10. browser pages frequently take several minutes to load
These are just some of the problems I have.
These problems all go away and everything runs fine as soon as I stop the browser. If I start the browser, they immediately surface again. I've trying clearing the cache, etc with no improvements.
What I would like to do is find a way to determine if the problem is in my Mac or with the Fairpoint service. Since I had no problems with Verizon and have made no changes to my Mac, I really suspect the problem lies with Fairpoint. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

    1) Another thing that you could try it is deleting the preference files for networking. Mac OS will regenerate these files. You would then need to reconfigure your network settings.
The list of files comes from Mac OS X 10.4.

    2) I think it is time to do a clean install of your system.
    3) It's either the software or an intermittent hardware problem.
If money isn't an issue, I suggest an external harddrive for re-installing Mac OS.
You need an external Firewire drive to boot a PowerPC Mac computer.
I recommend you do a google search on any external harddrive you are looking at.
I bought a low cost external drive enclosure. When I started having trouble with it, I did a google search and found a lot of complaints about the drive enclosure. I ended up buying a new drive enclosure. On my second go around, I decided to buy a drive enclosure with a good history of working with Macs. The chip set seems to be the key ingredient. The Oxford line of chips seems to be good. I got the Oxford 911.
The latest the hard drive enclosures support the newer serial ata drives. The drive and closure that I list supports only older parallel ata.
    Has everything interface:
    FireWire 800/400 + USB2, + eSATA 'Quad Interface'
    save a little money interface:
    FireWire 400 + USB 2.0
This web page lists both external harddrive types. You may need to scroll to the right to see both.

Folks in these Mac forums recommend LaCie, OWC or G-Tech.

FireWire compared to USB. You will find that FireWire 400 is faster than USB 2.0 when used for a external harddrive connection.

  • Forte Express Application performance

    Greetings,
We are in the process of developing an application using Forte Express.
We have approx. 20 windows, each of which may have 4-5 folders or a nested array
window. The windows work in pairs. One window will show a brief version of
records in an array window. When we double-click on a row, we popup a detailed
version of the record which also has folders to show associations with this
    record.
Our development is taking place on a Dec Alpha 2100 and two 250's. The
performance was not that bad considering we were in development mode and several
instances of Express was running on each machine.
We recently had to give a demo of what we had accomplished so far. We
deployed the application and ran it on a 486 66Mhz running Win95 and it was
incredibly slow. We also ran it on a Pentium-133 and was not much better.
The delay for popping up detailed windows after double clicking in an array
field could easily take 10 seconds. We have to run our application on an
Dec Alpha 2100 to get descent performance!
Has anybody else experienced this poor performance? What is your
    performance like? Any comments/suggestions appreciated.
Note: Our database server was a Sparc 5 with 64Meg. Pretty slow but
we only had one user accessing the database. The Server was also
not compiled since we were told by the Forte people that the gain
in performance did not warrant the extra trouble required to
    compile.

Gunnar, I had dbms_snapshot.refresh embedded on one page as "after submit" process and it was enough to crash the application. Apex pages are rendered on-the-fly and the (materialized) view refresh takes somehow too long.
The same thing happens if you create a regular view that selects from remote database. Connection speed between the host and remote database doesn't seem to matter.
My solution is NOT to refresh materialized views in Apex pages at all. I've recreated my materialized views with the following parameters
REFRESH COMPLETE ON DEMAND START WITH sysdate+0 NEXT sysdate+1/24
so that it refreshes every hour and it works perfectly. Let me know if it helps.

  • Poor performance when dragging item within a list loaded with images - Flex 4

    Hi,
I have a custom built List component that is using a TileLayout. I am using a custom itemRenderer to load images into this list from our server (in this test, 44 images rae loaded). I have enabled dragEnabled and dragMove so that I can move items around within the list. The problem comes when I start dragging an item. The dragging operation is very slow and clunky.
When I move the mouse to drag the item, the dropIndicator does not get refreshed for a few seconds and the movement feels like my PC is lagging pretty badly. I've also noticed that during this time my CPU usage is spiking up to around 25-40%. The funny part is I can scroll the list just fine without any lag at all, but the minute I drag the application starts to lag really bad. I do have some custom dragOver code that I used to override the dragOverHandler of the list control, but the problem persists even if I take that code out. I've tried with useVirtualLayout set to both true and false and neither setting made a difference.
Any ideas as to what could be causing the poor performance and/or how I can go abouts fixing it?
    Thanks a lot in advance!

Ahh, good call about the Performance profiler. I'm pretty new to the profiling thing with Flex (haven't used Builder Pro before
the Flex 4 beta) so please forgive me
I found some interesting things running the performance profiler but I'm not sure I understand what to make of it all. I cleared the Performance Profile data when right before I loaded the images into the list. I then moved some images around and then captured the Profiling Data (If I understand Adobe correctly, this is the correct way to capture performance information for a set of actions).
What I found is there is a [mouseEvent] item that took 3101ms with 1 "Calls" (!!!!). When I drill down into that item to see the Method Statistics, I actually see three different Callees and no callers. The sum of the time it took the Callees to execute does not even come close to adding up to the 3101 ms (about 40ms). I'm not sure what I can make of those numbers, or if they are even meaningful. Any insight into these?
The only other items that stand out to me are [pre-render] which has 863ms (Cumulative Time) / 639ms (Self Time), [enterFrameEvent] which has 746ms / 6ms (?!), and [tincan] (what the heck is tincan?) which has times of 521ms for both Cumulative and Self.
Can anyone offer some insight into these numbers and maybe make some more suggestions for me? I apologize for my ignorance on these numbers - as I said, I'm new to the whole Flex profiling thing.
    Many thanks in advance!
Edit: I just did another check, this time profiling only from the start of my drag to the end of my drop, and I still see [mouseEvent] taking almost 1000ms of Cumulative Time. However, when I double click that item to see the Method Statistics, no Callers or Callees are listed. What's causing this [mouseEvent] and how come it's taking so long?
