Forum for safari coding
it seems to me that these forums are for the use of safari with focus on troubleshooting technical issues. i have asked questions in here before about writing code and scripts for safari and it seems those questions just won't get answered here. so can anyone recommend a good coding forum definitely with a focus on safari, html, and javascript?
Hi
Yes, this forum is definitely a "troubleshooting" one, directed towards users of Safari. For something developer oriented start here.
Hope that helps.

Is there an up-to-date forum for email coding issues?
There's a lot of info online but these issues change almost monthly with new webmail "features" that tend to break old format rules. Is there an ongoing discussion group for this? Or is there a Dreamweaver email perfect plugin?
Also, does the Outlook 2007 validator (made for Dreamweaver 8 it says) work in CS5? If so, how do you find it in the Validator in Dreamweaver?
CharlesI installed the Dreamweaver Outlook 2007 validator but I found an immediate problem with it. I tried validating an en email that I built from a template that I was given by a client which has the font style only in the body tag. It validates the code as being perfect. It may validate perfectly but the template doesn't work in Outlook 2007 because the font style is not inline. A working code validator that would report problems in different email clients would be brilliant - but it would have to be continually updated. Just last month Yahoo launched a new version of its online webmail which already has caused problems for me (such as tables mysteriously separating which doesn't appear anywhere else). Articles are OK but the problem is requirements are always changing.
Charles I agree with a lot of what you are saying and from my personal experience I don't even worry about Lotus Notes anymore because of the low volume of recipients. It is true what you are saying though about Outlook and inline styles, but Microsoft has been pretty consistent since the change in 2007 with the "Word Rendering Engine". You should be able to easily modify the client's email though with the font so that it is inline and renders, not that it should be a big concern because you are very limited in the fonts you use unless you are doing emails for a company like Panic which targets Mac & mobile users, all of which have clients that allow CSS3 effects in emails. It's very good to see their optimism with the way the rest of world looks at email.
The problem with Constant Contact and Mail Chimp are that they are commercial blasting companys. I can't use them for our clients - we have to code and blast the emails ourself.
This is a very dangerous practice and I don't understand what why that wouldn't work for your clients? If it's sensitive content there are other email providers who can do that sort of thing if you give more industry specifics. The part that would worry me as an outside contractor is that the client needs to know up front, if they send spam, their server is done for. Your hosting provider for the mail server could shut you down, the ISPs could blacklist you and it would affect the everyday email traffic and not just the promotional email pieces that you send out.
And I will say this about Mailchimp. I did find consistent results using their templates with the exception of their footer, which I did write to them about. I've noticed some issues with some !important tags not being read correctly in Outlook 2010. But other than that, the service was good, and I did try to learn their template language for some custom emails, but then someone had a change of mind about services so I never saw it through. -
I can't use an online forum using Safari
I go on this forum regularly, it's a support forum for people who suffer from the same chronic illness as I do. The ONLY browser that will let me log into this forum is Firefox. I didn't mind firefox that much, except when using this forum when someone sends me a message I can't hit reply like everyone else on the forum can.
But the latest Firefox update is horrible! I hate it. It's full of bugs or something. So I set out to find a browswer I could use. Chrome doesn't work with that forum, that has been confirmed by the "tech guys", Safari won't let me log in. I finally found some one who uses that forum who has a mac, so I asked her advice.
She told me to make sure I had all my software updates, I had. She told me to update Java, I did. These are the other things she told me: Turn Private Browsing off, (It was never on), de select letting websites track you, and make sure my Block cookies setting was on third parties and advertisers. I did all that. Still doesn't work. She has a Macbook Pro. I have a MacBook Snow Lion. I also read some articles in Safari Help, made sure enable Java is selected.
I am currently in the process of downloaded Internet Explorer 9 via a Virtual Box because I have no clue what else to try!
Any ideas?rm --
My Safari works fine in there. That's the point I was trying to make.
And so far, for you, Safari, Firefox, and Chrome don't work for you.
So far, it works in Safari, Firefox, and Camino on my Macs.
First, go to Safari and delete all the BP cookies first.
(Safari Preferences > Securityor Privacy. Look for Cookies. Open up the list, type in BP, and delete all the cookies that show up. Quit Safari immediately. Then restart Safari. Find the BP site through Google, not by any Bookmark you may have. Open it up, and log in. Report back, OK? -
Crash Report is printed in the Box under Problem Report for Safari
It states in the Problem Report for Safari, that a Crash Report will be sent to Apple automatically, but I'm also posting it here in the forum based on articles I read after last post because it continues to "quit unexpectedly" when I try to launch the application. I have done a permissions and disk repair.

Can no longer sign into any forum with Safari?
Hello,
I'm using Safari 5.1.7 and have Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 installed.
This happened about a week ago that whenever I try to sign into this forum, Facebook, any forum for that matter I cannot sign in. I enter my email and password and the fields are not accepted but just go blank and don't allow me access into this forum. Tried clearing cache and resetting Safari. No problems on Firefox which I always used for years and recently switched back to Safari but now back to Firefox.
Any ideas, I will go ahead and try repairing permissions which I always forget about.
MichelleSimple solution, ran Disk Utility which didn't fix the problem but went to Safari Preferences and then selected Privacy and it was on Block Cookies always and I switched it to Never and now have it on from third parties and advertisers. Now it seems to be fine. Phew.

How do I set up bookmarks sync to iCloud for Safari in Windows?
The page http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1455 shows iCloud Control Panel for Windows permitting bookmarks sync for Safari but when I run it it shows bookmarks sync for Internet Explorer. How do I set this up for Safari on Windows?
I suggest you post your question on an MS Office forum since it's their software you're having issues with.

Want to set a default zoom level for safari? Here's how you do it.
If you like to set a default zoom level for safari so you don't have to hit Ctrl+ (or Ctrl-) every time you start Safari and open a new tab, here's how you can do that. This should work on Safari for mac, too:
1) create a file named defaultzoom.css (or any name you like, just make sure it has a css extension.)
2) copy and paste in the following:
body {
zoom: 130%;
change 130 to whatever number suits you. >100 means zoom in, <100 means zoom out. Don't forget the % percent sign!
3) in safari, go to Preferences > Advanced. Under style sheet, select Other... and point to the file you created.
4) you may need to restart safari for the change to take effect.
Voila. Hope that helps someone.Yes you are right!
This CSS zooming is a crude hack. I think it basically treats a web page like a pdf document where you just enlarges everything.
When you zoom manually, safari does a smarter sort of zoom where it enlarges but tries to keep widths of the elements the same size, reflowing text where needed and scrolling only when necessary.
If the web page has a fixed size that is smaller than your browser window, like this forum, css zoom works ok. But with a page like gmail, which has no width constraint, you get into trouble.
Hmm, wait, I just checked out wiki, which also uses up all available screen real estate, but does NOT have this problem.
Notice in gmail, even if you zoom way out below what should be 100%, the login is still off the screen. The font gets real small but the width of the page stays the same. The css zoom basically "sticks" and isn't completely reversible.
Bottom line: you have to decide which is more annoying: having to hit Ctrl+ for every tab you open, or running into some problematic pages.
On Windows, I use autohotkey (a kdb and mouse macro scripting program) to switch off the CSS on the fly when I need to. I think Mac has similar capability built in, right? If I were really clever, I guess I could program autohotkey to send a few ctrl+ whenever it detects a new window or tab in safari, but I'm not there yet.
Bottom bottom line: Apple needs to add this feature. It's a pretty basic accessibility feature. Doesn't Apple have like an accessibility guru/advocate? -
so I was having problems with Safari. It wouldn't load any pages, even after i reset and cleared everyting. I deleted the program assuming it would be simple to reinstall. Apparently it's not.
On my OS X install disk, its not listed as one of the bundled software. Anyone know where I can find a Safari 2 install for intel mac OS X version 10.4.11.
I can deal with mozilla, but i much prefer safari.
THANKS
dan*Hi dan, Welcome* to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
Safari 3.04 is what you want for Tiger 10.4.11. You may be able to get it w a reapply of the 10.4.11 Combo Update. I don't know what Safari 2 will do in 10.4.11 but you can try. It is available in Optional installs on your install disc. It will look like this:

Q. Flash player for Safari
I know that I can get a flash player plugin for Safari on my PC but when is it going to be available for the iphone 3G?
Not being able to view flash media limits viewing a lot of web sites. Not only no flash, but no java either, but guys don't bother wasting your time here, Apple never responds to the enduser's opinion nor requests, they just delete forums which are getting too embarrassing or unwanted, instead of helping the one feeding them, because we are with buying their products, listen, they sold so many iPhones and made sooo much cheese that they will not worry about a couple of hopeless dudes like you and actually open up a platform for "forth-party" programmers such as flash or java game makers, that would totally kill that so far SENSELESS app store.. You know guys, I'll get over no flash support, since it would probably drain the battery even faster, but what I can't understand are the followings below:
Why can I not set up my exchange on the "revolutionary iPhone"?
Why doesn't it "just work"?
Why can't I disable auto-correct in SMS?
Why is not there a real turn by turn app blaming on safety reasons while having GPS google maps available (which I'm certain is much-more dangerous)?
Why don't you equip the rev. iphone with stereo bluetooth?
Why is there no GPRS function?
Why can't I use my old charger which worked perfectly fine with iphone 1?
Why can't one insure the iPhone?
Why can't one communicate through bluetooth?
Why is there no landscape keyboard for SMS?
Why is there an apple recognition chip for a/v out (is piracy ok if I use apple dock??)?
And I could go on and on.. -
Logging in SAP forum using Safari browser
O.k guys, new to the forum. My first question will not be on financial but definitely expect a lot in the coming days. I am having trouble logging into SAP Forum using Safari browser. Every time i give user Id and password it will pop up a new window and asks me to select a certificate but i don't see any certificate in it. I am able to login to the forum using firefox, can some guide me how to go about this?
I just posted exactly the same problem but have't solved it yet. It is of course pretty weird that a free program like Firefox does the job wheres a paid product like Apple with Safari has problems. I keep searching for Safari did it very fine in the past for me. I suspect it is somewhere in the preferences.

I only see support for Safari 2.0 when I do a search on the
support site. I'm wondering if this is correct and if there are
plans to support the latest version of Safari?
Specifically, we are certifying one of our products on Safari
3.1.2 on the Mac, and encountered an issue where the Webhelp search

I can't seem to find the download page for Safari 5. All the links I click on to get to this "download" page lead me to a page with no links, just stock info on Safari. Pretty frustrating, I feel like Apple has become less and less convenient/intuitive lately...anyone else encounter this problem?
My Software Update in 10.6.8 works fine except that, now 10.6 is two levels out of favor, routine updates may slow down or stop altogether if past history teaches us anything. I've not had any SU offereings for 10.4 on an old G4 in quite a while.
As I doubt your Update issue is related to Safari, I recommend you start a new thread in the Snow Leopard forums. Make sure you are current (10.6.8) first so you can see if the problem was fixed in another update. I recall seeing one SU Snow Leopard update that mentioned better function for Software Update.

How do I do an IN-PLACE UPDATE for Safari software?
How do I do an IN-PLACE UPDATE for Safari Windows software?
There is no software update information anywhere in Safari 5.1.7... not in the Help tab, not in the Preferences... no information at all about software updates.
I'm using the Windows version of Safari, 5.1.7 on Windows 7. This Safari browser has always been screwed up... it has never worked correctly. The pages black out randomly when I move the mouse around, the bookmarks bar scrambles when I try to move a bookmark to another folder, the browser goes in to momentary comas frequently... it is a joke to try to use.
Unfortunately, I need to use multiple browsers for what I do, and I'm somewhat locked in to using Safari as one of my browsers right now... otherwise, I'd never use the Windows version of Safari at all. The Mac version of Safari works fine, and I've never had a problem with it on any Mac, but the Windows version *****.
I want to do a simple IN-PLACE update for Safari Windows to see if that corrects any of the many multiple problems that this version has, so I don't have to completely re-install it and start over from scratch.
How do I do it?
Thanks,
numetroThanks Tim.
Actually, I went through the complexities of setting up the Firefox Profile Manager for Firefox. I kinda' works, sometimes, and then other times it doesn't. Back around a year ago when I set up the Firefox Profile Manager, it had problems with holding on to virtual memory, so if you'd close it and then try to re-open in a newer version of Firefox, it would open up the newer version without its profile, without all the new things I had installed in the newer one, or it would open up the newer version with the profile for the old one and give you all kinds of error messages.
I wresteled with that on the Mozilla forum for a while, but it ened up with no one being able to solve the multiple problems that the Firefox Profile Manager had... not sure if that's changed.
I'm currently using one version of Firefox, one version of Chrome, one version of IE, one version of Safari, and one version of the portable Firefox-Tor browser.
For using multiple versions of Firefox, using the portable, non-installation versions seems to work better than their buggy Profile Manager.
I read a little about Virtual Box and the like... looks like a little more than I'm willing to try right now.
Maybe I'll try Opera.
Thanks again,

How long does it take for an extension to be approved for Safari
I submitted an extension for Safari and wondered what the process is and how long it takes to get approved
Well that really helps me!
