Found a swap file by the name ".bash_profile.swp"

I am new to Mac and trying to figure out why my .bash_profile is not working. As I read suggestions, I try them. Here is my latest issue:

While opening file ".bash_profile"
(1) Another program may be editing the same file.
If this is the case, be careful not to end up with two
different instances of the same file when making changes.
Quit, or continue with caution.
(2) An edit session for this file crashed.
If this is the case, use ":recover" or "vim -r .bash_profile"
to recover the changes (see ":help recovery").
If you did this already, delete the swap file ".bash_profile.swp"
to avoid this message.
Swap file ".bash_profile.swp" already exists!

That is NOT a Mac thing, it is an Open Source Vim (which is often the default vi editor) thing. You will get this kind of behavior on any system when using Vim.
You can get this for 2 reasons. First if you are actually editing this file from another terminal session. Second, if the previous Vim editing session terminated from unnatural causes.
If you think it was from unnatural causes, then you select Recover. Save your changes :w and exit from the Vim :q
The next time you launch Vim for that file the .swp file will still exist, but this time you can choose Delete, as you have saved your recovered work the previous session.
If you are uncomfortable using vi/Vim editors, then may I suggest you try the nano editor. It will get the job done, but unlike Vim, nano is not as overloaded with features that take a long time to learn and master.

    Hi All,
    I appologise if its not the right forum...
    I am a bit baffeled here by the following error when I am trying to install Java SDK or just JRE.
    I upgraded my windows 2000 box to win XP home edition, installed the latest updates etc and then tried to install java....
    and got the following error
    bin\appletviewer.exe:
    Old file not found.However, a file of the same name was found.No updates done since file contents does not match.
    I have removed everything from system that I could imagine might be using Java directly or indirectly. No JRE on the system, no old java folder under C: drive etc, But I still get the same error. I have never come accross a stupid error like this before. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

    I would also recommend to write the description into the meta data. This would allow to place a text frame above the image and it is possible to add meta information and file name automatically together with the image, when you place it or even in a prepared template.
    Meta data information can be written easily in Bridge in the Meta File Workspace.

    I am not able to use the ftp export in Muse. When I enter my host, name and password, I get a long interlude of rainbow wheel and finally the message that my ftp host cannot be found. I have verified the name and that it is port 21. I can export to html and use another ftp client to upload (to the same server) but this is tedious and making minor changes is painful. Have you encountered this and found a solution?

    Hi Susan,
    In that case I will recommend that you consult a local technician/IT team and see if there is some network connectivity issue with your machine.

    how do I generate the pdf file using the name of a field.  How can I help

    Hi,
    here's a sample.
    LiveCycle Blog: Formulare in bestimmte Verzeichnisse speichern und nach Inhalt aus Formularfeld benennen //Save forms to…

  • Downloading a pdf file, saving it, won't show the full name of the saving file when the name contains a space, stopping the file name.

    Downloading a pdf file, the name of the file contains a space in the middle of the file. The name showing on the 'Save' popup is the first few letters up to the space. Works fine on IE8. For instance, a file named "old snail_12345.pdf" would only show "old" (ignore the "s). This is on Firefox 30.0, WinXP Pro.

    Is this a problem when you are viewing the file in Firefox's built-in PDF Viewer and using its download button, or when you are using a download button in a web page?
    I've seen this problem occur when the server is pushing a different file name than the actual file name (for example, the file name is pdf.asp?id=12345 but the server is sending the name Annual Report.pdf in the headers sent with the file). I'm not aware of a workaround for the user, but for what it's worth, it is easy to fix on the server by replacing the spaces with %20 (the standard substitution used in web addresses).

    I need to create an action or script to save the file with the name of the selected layer (not including the hidden layers, but including those visible).

    Versione in Italiano (Further down the English version)
    NB - Nella versione inglese ho messo tutte le immagini dei menu in italiano.
    Versione per Mac, ma credo sia identico per Windows.
    Spiego passo passo cosa ho fatto:
    - Ho creato un file esempio con tre Livelli, salvato sulla scrivania e ho chiuso il file.
    - Ho aperto il file e selezionato il Livello al centro per iniziare a registrare una azione che ho chiamato: Save with Name of Selected Layer
    - Nuova azione
    - Dare il nome e premere Registra
    Ora salva…
    - Menu --> Livello --> Nuovo --> Livello... e premi -ok-, (lascia il nome che viene mostrato)
    - Ancora una volta Menu --> Livello... --> Nuovo --> Livello... e premi -ok-, (lascia il nome che viene mostrato)
    - Menu --> Livello --> Ordina --> Dietro
    - Menu --> Livello --> Unisci sotto
    - Menu --> Livello --> Unisci visibili
    - Menu --> Livello --> Nuovo --> Livello... e premi -ok-, (lascia il nome che viene mostrato)
    - Menu --> Livello - Nascondi Livello
    - Menu --> Elimina --> Elimina livelli nascosti (press -Yes-)
    - Menu --> Livello --> Nuovo --> Livello... Inserisci questo: 'Move this to the trash' e premi ok
    - Menu --> File --> Script --> Esporta Livelli in File... (Nella finestra che si apre scegliere l’opzione che si desidera, ma togliere il prefisso del nome) e premere -Esegui-
    - Selezionare il pannello Storia cliccare su Elimina premendo -Si- ogni volta che si apre la finestra di dialogo (Ripetere 8 volte questa operazione sino ad arrivare nella storia alla condizione di partenza. Ho visto che è meglio di Ripristina -F12-)
    - Fermare la registrazione.
    A questo punto, mandando in esecuzione questa Azione, ho raggiunto parzialmente l’obiettivo perché i file così creati mantengono, purtroppo, dei prefissi numerici per evitare probabilmente la sovrascrizione di file (credo senza avviso) nel posto dove vengono creati.
    Per ottenere l’obiettivo occorre un nuovo passo ed a proposito di questo riferisco quanto segue:
    ATTENZIONE - L’operazione descritta qui di seguito deve essere fatta su di una copia del file, per cui:
    - Duplicare il file,
    - Spostare l’originale in altra cartella
    - Lavorare sul file duplicato.
    mi riferisco a questo...
    ATTENZIONE - Questa modifica è effettuata a proprio rischio e pericolo ed il sottoscritto non si assume alcuna responsabilità su quanto venga fatto soprattutto da mani inesperte.
    ATTENZIONE - Questa modifica sovrascrive qualsiasi file che abbia nome uguale al layer che viene selezionato più l’estensione del file naturalmente.
    Comunque la modifica è banalissima e a portata di chiunque.
    Procedere così:
    - Chiudere Photoshop
    - Aprire (nel percorso specificato dall’immagine) il file “Export Layers to Files.jsx” (Export Layers To Files.jsx 1.0.0.16) con un editor di testo puro.
    - cercare la stringa (dovrebbe essere in riga 1029)
    var fileNameBody = fileNamePrefix;
    fileNameBody += "_" + zeroSuppress(i, 4);
    fileNameBody += "_" + layerName;
    - sostituirla con:
    var fileNameBody = fileNamePrefix;
    fileNameBody += layerName;
    - cercare la stringa (dovrebbe essere in riga 1047-46)
    var fileNameBody = fileNamePrefix;
    fileNameBody += "_" + zeroSuppress(i, 4) + "s";
    - sostituirla con:
    var fileNameBody = fileNamePrefix;
    fileNameBody += "";
    - salvare e uscire.
    - riavviare Photoshop
    - provare l’azione registrata facendo attenzione che il nome del layer non sia identico al nome di un file già presente altrimenti questo verrà sovrascritto.
    Domanda:
    Perché ho creato livelli che poi ho eliminato ecc.
    Risposta:
    Semplice per evitare errori di esecuzione delle azioni nel caso di operazioni con livelli mancanti o altro.
    Semplice... no?
    English version
    Mac version, but I think it's the same for Windows.
    First of all, I'm translating the actions that I made using the Italian version of Photoshop, you look at the position of the menu that I have chosen to do the work with other languages.
    I explain step by step what I did:
    - I created a sample file with three layers, saved to the desktop and I closed the file.
    - I opened the file and select the layer at the center to start recording an action that I called: Save with Name of the Selected Layer
    - New action
    - Give the name and press Save ( I think it is so in English )
    Now save ...
    - Menu -> Layer - > New —> Layer… and press -ok- , (leave the name that is shown)
    - Once again Menu -> Layer - > New —> Layer… and press -ok- , (leave the name that is shown)
    - Menu -> Layer - > Arrange (order) -> Behind
    - Menu -> Layer - > Merge Down
    - Menu -> Layer - > Merge Visible
    - Menu -> Layer - > New —> Layer… and press -ok- , (leave the name that is shown)
    - Menu -> Layer - Hide Layer
    - Menu - > Delete - > Delete hidden layers (press -Yes- )
    - Menu -> Layer - > New —> Layer… Enter this: ' Move this to the trash ' and press ok
    - Menu -> File - > Scripts -> Export Layers To Files... (In the window that opens select the option you want, but take away the name prefix) and press - Run -
    - Select the History panel and click Delete (on menu opened) pressing -Yes- every time when open the dialog box (8 times Repeat this step until you get into the story to the starting condition. Not use Restore -F12-).
    - Stop recording.
    At this point, by executing this action, I have reached the goal partly because the files created in this way remain, unfortunately, the numerical prefixes to avoid possibly overwriting of files (I think without notice) in the place where they are created.
    To achieve the goal we need a new step and thinking about this as follows:
    WARNING - The operation described below should be made on a copy of the file, so :
    - Duplicate the file
    - Move the original folder to another
    - Work on the duplicate file.
    WARNING - This modification is performed at your own risk and the undersigned assumes no responsibility on what is done mostly by inexperienced hands.
    WARNING - This change will overwrite any files with the same name as the selected layer plus the file extension of course.
    However, the change is trivial and within reach of anyone.
    Proceed as follows:
    - Close Photoshop
    - Open (in the specified path from the image ) file " Export Layers to Files.jsx " (Export Layers To Files.jsx 1.0.0.16) with a pure text editor.
    - Search for the string (should be in line 1029 )
    var = fileNameBody fileNamePrefix ;
    fileNameBody = + "_" + zeroSuppress (i, 4 ) ;
    fileNameBody + = "_ " + layerName ;
    - Replace it with :
    var = fileNameBody fileNamePrefix ;
    fileNameBody + = layerName ;
    - Search for the string (should be in line 1047-46 )
    var = fileNameBody fileNamePrefix ;
    fileNameBody + = "_ " + zeroSuppress (i, 4) + "s" ;
    - Replace it with :
    var = fileNameBody fileNamePrefix ;
    fileNameBody + = "";
    - Save and exit.
    - Restart Photoshop
    - Try the recorded Action, making sure that the layer name is not identical to the name of an existing file otherwise it will be overwritten.
    Question:
    Why I created levels which I then deleted etc..
    Answer:
    Simple to avoid errors of execution of the actions in the case of transactions with missing levels and other.
    Simple ... is not it?
    Sorry for my bad English...
    Thanks in advance for any hint.

  • Ability to create a collection from a text file containing the names of the pictures

    1 thing that would be very good is the ability to create a collection / quick collection from a text file that contains the names of the picture we want in that collection...
    The reason for that is when i receive an order from a customer typicaly 100-200 different pictures (i'm a wedding photographer), i ask my customer to send me an excel spread sheet with all the name or number of the picture thay want with size & quantity...
    I would like to be able to use that file as an input for a batch job that would add all those files to a collection "customer order" instaid od adding them 1 by 1... it would save me lots of time and would prevent some errors in the order...
    I am currently able to do that with the help of a small utility (Useful File Utility) is the name... with the other RAW converter i use... Bibble

    Well, it is workflow software, true, but it's really focussed on image development. What you're proposing would necessarily make the primary focus be on the business angle, I suspect.
    If you're talking about tools to help customers sit down and pick what they want for manual processing later, that's one thing - but going the rest of the distance to order processing and fulfillment would be out of scope, at least in my view. The reason is that there is just so much room for potential variation in how this gets conducted that I can't see how Adobe could possibly satisfy every pro with one implementation. Even just dealing with all of the possible payment vendors is a hugely problematic area.
    I agree with Don; a third-party plugin via the upcoming SDK might be a distinct possibility, particularly if it were for a "plus services" solution in which the plugin were designed to work with a specific fulfillment vendor. THAT could work quite nicely, and the plugin might even be free (in return for giving the vendor your business, of course).
    In other words, it's not that I see it as a bad idea, it's just that I don't think it belongs in the "core" of LR. This is something that is best dealt with using the SDK so that differences in processes can be allowed for.

  • How to open a file, change the name and write file

    Hi,
    I want to open an existing .dat-file in Labview, manipulate the data and save this data into a new file with a different file name.
    Though the name should be different I would like to use the old name and add something to it.
    (In my programm the .dat file containes the date and time the data was
    measured and I would like to keep this information in the filename.)
    For example: the original title is file1.dat now I want to save it as file1_manipulated.dat
    Is that possible? What is the best and easiest way to do it?
    Thanks a lot
    Chris

    Hi Mike,
    thanks for your help.
    This will give me my path in string format. But to open a new file and then write my data into it, I need a path format (see right side of png)
    Is that right?
    I attached a png, so you hopefully get an idea where this is going. (I know this won´t work yet)
    I open a file and this filename depends on the date and time the data was recorded. So I can´t work with a stringconstant.
    Sorry for this beginner questions - this stuff is absolutly new to me.
    Thanks in advance
    Chris

  • Move files by the name individually

    I use this script at the moment to move correctly named items from one folder to another and also copies to another folder.
    A) make a copy of the correctly named image and place in dropbox.
    B) 'move' the correctly named image to a temp image folder.(as backup)
    The problem is that other files arrive during the script between A and B as a result those files only get moved and do not get copied to the dropbox.
    I need this script to get a list of the files of the folder then process those specific files.
    Many thanks
    Matt
    here is the script
    tell application "Finder"
              set this_folder to folder (((path to desktop folder) as text) & "Hotfolder")
      --set destination to folder (((path to pictures folder) as text) & "HotDestination")
              set DropBoxDestination to folder (((path to home folder) as text) & "Dropbox:Temp_Hotfolder")
              set LocalDestination to folder (((path to pictures folder) as text) & "TempHotFolder")
              duplicate (files of this_folder whose name does not start with "MJC_" and name does not start with "SH_" and name does not start with "ARK_" and name does not start with "5" and name does not start with "0" and name does not start with "Focus" and name does not start with "Untitled" and name does not start with "ZZ__5" and name does not start with "SE__5" and name does not start with "NN__5") to DropBoxDestination
              move (files of this_folder whose name does not start with "MJC_" and name does not start with "SH_" and name does not start with "ARK_" and name does not start with "5" and name does not start with "0" and name does not start with "Focus" and name does not start with "Untitled" and name does not start with "ZZ__5" and name does not start with "SE__5" and name does not start with "NN__5" and name does not start with "VM__5") to LocalDestination
    end tell

    To work with the same items, try getting a single list of files and then using that list for your commands, for example:
      set theFiles to (files of this_folder whose name does not start with "MJC_" and name does not start with "SH_" and name does not start with "ARK_" and name does not start with "5" and name does not start with "0" and name does not start with "Focus" and name does not start with "Untitled" and name does not start with "ZZ__5" and name does not start with "SE__5" and name does not start with "NN__5") as alias list
      duplicate theFiles to DropBoxDestination
      move theFiles to LocalDestination

  • How to create an action to save the file as the name of the selected layer

    I have a .psd with several layers, and I would like to save multiple versions of the document based on the layer name. Is there a way to tell Photoshop to do this through an action? Also, how can I get rid of the "filename_copy" filenaming behavior. I'd like to hit a button and have the file saved as the layer's name while overwriting the existing document without renaming it to whatever_copy.

    The bad news is that it's not possible with an action.  An action simply can't access a layer name.
    But the good news is that it's possible with a script.  Almost anything's possible with a script.
    But the bad news is I'm no script expert.
    But the good news is that there are script experts who hang out here.
    The even better news is that there's a Photoshop scripting forum.
    Best of luck!

  • Can't open files where the name starts with a number

    On our network server, we have some folders where the files are numbered. Example:
    1 - Memo
    2 - Agenda
    3 - Report X
    4 - Report Y
    5 - Report Z
    We have 5 Macs in our office. Everybody can read these files fine except for one person. On her computer she can't open any file that starts with a number and gets the below error message. How do I fix this?
    All our Macs (to the best of my knowledge) are setup exactly the same since they were purchased at the same time late last year.

  • How to read the name of .csv file from a particular folder using Oracle.

    Gurus,
    I have a folder called 'data_dir' in Oracle Server and it contains 10 different .csv files and the name of the each file is being suffixed by date and time(24 hrs format).
    First i need to read all the file names then i have to process those files by UTL_FILE to load the data into a relational table.
    Is there any mechanism is available in Oracle to read the file names?
    (In this case all the 10 different csv file names)
    If so, then please help me accomplish this.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    I have a device controled by a Excell (VBA) interface. Truogh this interface I control the motors and Diadem (for the report) and the data are save in a database. When I  use the load button from the excell, the VBA application call the script from Diadem  Load_DATA_BOF.VBS, (after I complete the new data for the report), and make the report.  Now to make it work, I copy the name of the filename that I want to load in a TextBox, and all the data are store in a txt file( protocol_for_load.txt) and Diadem takes from there the data for the report.
    What I want to do is to fill automatic the field of the filename in the  protocol_for_load.txt, when I select the file in  Diadem.
