Four different IPODS same computer

How do I update my tunes on four ipods (for four different people) on the same computer without losing what is already stored on them.

There are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
a) Sharing a single iTunes library and user account.
b) Creating multiple user accounts and having separate libraries.
Sharing a Library
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish):
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but if you have one it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page:
Loading songs onto iPod shuffle - Windows
Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists

  • Multiple iPods, same computer....HELP

I know this question has probably been answered, but I have tried other things and nothing works.
I have Windows XP, and I have my own account on it and my own iPod(4th gen, click wheel) and my sister has her own account and her own mini iPod. Our music is shared in the shared music folder on the computer.
Problem is, how do we use multiple iPods on the same computer. I am having trouble because whenever I/we plug in our iPod to the computer, it does not load to iTunes and instead just shows up as something in the E drive. How can I make it recognize each iPod individually without hassle?
Also, is there a way to not have everyone log out to update my iPod? I get a prompt that says everyone must log out before accessing iTunes. Any help would be great...thanks!

There are basically two methods for managing multiple iPods on one computer. See here:
Method 1 - Create different Windows users accounts for each iPod on this computer.
Method 2 - Create a playlist in iTunes for each iPod.
To make Method 2 work, connect one of your iPods, and click on it in the left-source panel.
Under the "Music" tab, and set your option for a specific playlist(s) under the "Sync Music" option.
Do the same with your other iPod; not connected at the same time as the other one, though.
For more details on this matter, check out Apple's Support article about it:

    I hope that helps you.

  • Sharing Photos: Different Users, Same Computer

So far, I've tried some suggestions found in other postings, but I still can't share some photo libraries between different users on the same computer. I started an account for my son. Sharing was enabled in both iPhoto Apps. I've tried locating the libraries in a Shared folder and putting them in a folder not associated with a user. Opening a port 8770 in the Sharing/Firewall window didn't change anything either. No matter what, when I open my son's iPhoto and try to Add To Library, some libraries will import and others have a circle with a red line next to them. Those will not import and I can't figure out what the difference is between them. Any thoughts?

    Hi chris,
these are the links I have for sharing. You might want to try the ACL way.
    SHARING IPHOTO LIBRARIES
Sharing libraries between users on the same local network
You can also share a library on the same machine between users the same way.
Sharing libraries between users on the same machine...
-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

SHARING ONE IPHOTO LIBRARY BETWEEN USERS ON SAME MACHINE
You can try one of these three methods:
1- Use iPhoto Library Manager-the paid version
The documentation page will give instructions on how it is done.
2- Sharing one iPhoto library between several users on one machine
3- Share an iPhoto Library in tiger Using ACL's
4- I have also read about ShareAlike
There is no other info on the site about how it works.
I strongly urge anyone wanting to try any of the methods for sharing one iPhoto Library folder among more than one user to backup all iPhoto Library folders before attemptin anything.

  • Two .mac accounts - different calendars - same computer

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I cannot find it.
Is it possible to publish calendars to different .mac accounts from the same computer? I have access to two .mac accounts. One is for work, one is for personal uses. I have several calendars for each. How can I publish the work calendars to the work account and the personal calendars to the personal account without changing the .mac system preferences every time?
    Ctd

Yes, that could work, but I find "fast" user switching to be hardly fast at all. Besides, you would lose immediate access to everything else you are doing just because you want to add something to a calendar.
    Any other ideas out there?

  • 30 gb ipod and 1gb nano ipod --same computer???????????

My wife has had a 1gb nano for a year and has itunes installed on our laptop. I just purchased a 30 gb ipod and installed itunes on my own sign on but same computer.. My question is ....is there a way to transfer her songs over to my itunes

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

  • Flash player not installing correctly as different user, same computer

I can view videos as one user on the same computer running IE9 windows 7, user is admin, but as another admin user, it keeps asking to install Adobe flash player, which I've done a million times, and it's still not working. It will not let me view any videos. Just a blank screen with "install adobe flash player"  I've checked the IE security settings, they are the exact same. I have unchecked active x filter, nothing changed. I have reset IE settings to default, still no change.  Firefox asked for adobe flash install, it went right through and works fine.  I can find the adobe flash program under control panel, remove programs, but not under the normal  start, programs, section.  Wierd! Any ideas would be helpful, I'm about top pull my hair out because it makes no sense.  This is a BRAND new computer, so all graphics drivers should be fine!

Perhaps the Shockwave Flash Object add-on is disabled on the other user's account?

Since it works fine on one account, this is probably not a driver issue.  But (just F.Y.I.) when I bought my new Dell computer three months ago, almost all device drivers on it were outdated.

  • Multiple users with different Ipods on same computer

My household has one general computer that is used by myself and my two teenage daughters. We don't use separate logins because it is used mostly to just go online, check our email, and use Itunes along with updating our Ipods. This works fine for us except that we have different Ipods. My girls have the Ipod Mini's and I have the Ipod (with video screen).
My question is this: Can one computer (running WinXPProSp2)authorize two different Ipods under the same user name? Also, can two (or three) different Ipods be "authorized" on the same computer?

Yes, your not really authorizing ipods, you just authorize a PC to play songs you buy from iTUnes. Once its authorized all ipods can play the song that connect to it.
You can separate the music that is loaded to each iPod (Like your music only added to your ipod and your girls ipods only updating there music to there ipods) By creating your own playlist and setting the ipod to update them. This is covered more here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432

  • I am trying to store music for two different iPods on the same computer, against two different Apple IDs. When I try and download content from the Cloud I get an error message?

I am trying to store music for two different iPods on the same Windows 8 computer, and when I try and download content from the Cloud I get an error message. Is it possible to have two different Apple IDs on the same computer?

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value).  You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these).  Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above.  As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library.

  • Can I have 2 different IPods on the same itunes account and computer?

    I have a nano gen. 4 and a new nano 7.
Can I have them both on my itunes account and computer?
    thanks

Yes. You can easily have multiple iPods on the same iTunes account on the same computer. Each iPod will show up with its name when plugged in, and each iPod can have its own set of preferences (i.e., what music, videos, photos, audiobooks, etc. to sync).
What you can't do easily is use the same iPod on multiple computers with different instances of iTunes. One instance of iTunes has to be "in charge" of an iPod.

  • Can i load two different itunes on the same computer for two different ipods?

Can I load two different itunes on my computer for two different ipods?  Or how can I get it so that when I click on itunes, only my songs come up and not my wifes?  And the same for her.

Yes.  The simplest way is to have separate Windows accounts for each user.  When either user runs iTunes, he/she will have a separate library with distinct content, playlists, etc., and can sync individual iDevices as needed.

can I sync two ipods with different ID on the same computer?

    Hi,
Yes you can as long as you have two seperate user accounts on your computer. Hope this helps.

  • How do I sync two ipods with two different IDs on the same computer?

How do I sync two ipods with two different IDs on the same computer?

Simply connect them.  One computer with one iTunes can manage multiple devices.  They're tracked by S/N but you might wish to assign them unique names so that you can track them yourself.
The only minor issue is app updating and purchases while on the computer.  It's necessary to log out and back in to the "correct" ID.  Much easier to do these things from the iPods.
