FRAME AROUND A CAPTIVATE MOVIE

Hi, I've been asked to produce a number of training movies in
Captivate for my client to put on a VLE. So far the subjects (from
beginner to advanced) are Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
While I find Captivate easy enough, I'd like to have a themed
"frame" around each movie. I'm shooting in 800 x
600 and the frame could sit around all four sides with the control
bar at the bottom, a couple of narrow sides and the topic &
a bit of artwork in the top border.
I'm good in all the graphics packages, but if coding is the
only solution send it anyway and I'll get our techies to look at
it.
Many thanks.

Hi ploughman1
You might wish to simply try using one of the skins supplied
with Captivate. (Project * Skin * Borders tab) There are many
background patterns already supplied by Captivate, and of course
you are welcome to create your own if you aren't totally pleased
with what you see there.
I've got a *Border Chooser* Captivate movie I have uploaded
to the Captivate Exchange that you may be interested in. I'll try
and place a link here, but I'm not optimistic since the last forum
upgrade.

  • Animated gif within Captivate movie?

I'm trying to insert an animated gif into a Captivate movie,
but when I do, the gif doesn't animate -- it just shows the first
frame. Is there a trick to getting these animated gifs to actually
play within the Captivate movie, without having to do a "rough
recreate" of the gif in Flash? I've looked around for a setting
within the app to address this, but couldn't find it, and according
to my search of the archives no one else has asked this question.
    Thanks in advance!
    Maureen

    Hi all
In addition to fellow ACE Steve's good advice, note that you
may notice that the gif looks just dandy if viewed on a web page
before importing. Then after importing it may appear to have had a
triple shot of espresso. This is because the frame rate of
Captivate is normally 30 FPS. It's not uncommon at all to see .GIF
files with a frame rate of 10. The answer? Either slow Captivate
down or speed up the .GIF before bringing it into Captivate.

  • SLOW playback of captivate movies.

    Hi all,
First of all I apologise in advance if this has been asked before on this Forum
but I view this as a serious problem in this project that I am working on and I
have not yet found a sufficient answer on this forum plus I have a tight deadline
    to adher to.
I have produced a Captivate movie with 192 slides and OK, on the vast majority of
slides I have a high-lighted area that fades in as well as an imported SWF movie
(consisting of only 1 frame and exported from Flash as it is just an arrow pointing
at a particular part of the screen etc and this fades in as well), so there are a lot of
    transitions in this movie.
I also have 5 rollover buttons originally produced in Flash on each page that
guide you to 5 respective sections in the overall movie.
I then published this first as an standalone executable movie and then as a SWF
embedded in a HTML file and when I play either of these back the performance
is really painfully slow with these highlights and arrow fading in a very slow rate.
The actual file is 7623KB in memory size and the machine I am currently using is
quite new with realtively good performance AND I have tested both the executable
file and the SWF on my own laptop which is top of the range, but I am getting the
    same SLOW performance.
I have produced other Captivate movies with around 80 slides or so but they have all
played back considerably faster than this one.
So, therefore is a realistic limit on the number of slides you could have in Captivate
as well as the number of transitions etc?
I have even set this movie to playback at 50 frames per second and this has had no
    effect.
So any suggestions would be most welcome!!!
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Could you pls. share your project with me so that we can investigate? You can upload the project at http://share.acrobat.com and my email id is [email protected]

  • Controlling captivate movie with JavaScript

    Hi,
I am trying to use Flash methods to control a captivate movie
using procedures documented in the support center article:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flash/publishexport/scriptingwithflash/scriptingwithflash_03. html
I am using the following code in a JavaScript:
    var movie = window.document.Captivate1;
    movie.StopPlay();
Captivate1 is the object ID assigned by Captivate when it
generates the HTML file. The movie does not respond to the command.
I have created my own Flash movie and the StopPlay command
    works with it.
Thanks in advance for any help anybody can provide!

Captivate SWFs don't respond like other Flash movies. You can
use similar techniques, but must use some specific, legacy "control
variables" that are hanging around since the RoboDemo days:
    To pause a movie, use rdcmndPause = 1;
A good place to find more details is here:

  • Black frame around video

I'm shooting video on a Sony FX 1000, widescreen DV.  I upload it into PE fine, frame size 720 x 480.  When I save it to file (in this case, on the hard drive), there is a black frame around the video (see below).  I see it when I play it on Media Player, and also when I upload it to a separate PE file where I want to cut it with other files.
A perhaps separate, perhaps related question: I have about 32 minutes of interview material, nothing else (no titles, soundtracks or additional material), and the size of the file is over 7 GBs.  Does that sound right?  (The camera IS on DV, not HDV; I just double checked.)
As always, many thanks for help!
    Doug

    Doug
What are you using, Premiere Elements 4 or 10 or other?
For now I will assume Premiere Elements 4.
If you are doing DV Widescreen data capture firewire into Premiere Elements 4, did you set the Premiere Elements 4 project preset for NTSC DV Widescreen? Right now I am assuming that you have.
Then the target is the export settings.
Please give a detailed account for what you used under Share/Personal Computer/_____/ and the settings under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the preset that you used if you changed any settings under that Advanced Button/Video Tab.
    or
Did you export using File Menu/Export/Movie? If so, same request for details.
I suspect the answer(s) are in those settings.
    With regard to
A perhaps separate, perhaps related question: I have about 32 minutes of interview material, nothing else (no titles, soundtracks or additional material), and the size of the file is over 7 GBs.  Does that sound right?  (The camera IS on DV, not HDV; I just double checked.)
My recollection is DV data is 13 GB/hour. If I have not messed up on the interpretation, what you have for about 30 minutes sounds about right.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.

  • Exporting a Captivate Movie into Flash 8

I am trying to export my Captivate movie using Flash Pro 8,
but I keep getting the "message" I can only export if I had Flash
MX 2004 installed. Is there a way around this????

Hi mindtube and welcome to our community
I am inferring from your question that you may think Adobe
employees are monitoring this forum. While we might see one or two
pop in here and there, by and large this is a total "user-to-user"
community. I'm a Captivate user same as you. So you might want to
post your question to support using the link at the bottom of this

  • Trigger actionscript from end of captivate movie

    Hi Guys,
I'm going insane trying to work out how to trigger an
actionscript event from the last slide of my Captivate movie.
Basically I'm doing a product walk through which I am exporting as
a swf an then dynamically loading into my flash file.
I need to be able to detect when the externally loaded
Captivate swf has completed playback so that I can then continue on
with the rest of my flash movie.
I have tried adding a swf in Captivate with actionscript to
trigger the event at the end of the slide but it doesn't work?
I have also tried exporting the whole thing as an fla and
then re exporting it from Flash MX 2004 and the animation seems to
get ruined and out of synch.
Any ideas on how I can detect and trigger and AS event when
the loaded Captivate swf has completed would be much appreciated.
    Thanks heaps for reading.
    Chris

    hi Chris
i created a similar workaround. i ran into a number of issues
when trying to call an actionscript function at the end of a
Captivate swf. i determined that captivate is VERY picky about
imported swfs. for instance, i had a single imported swf that
contained an animated background and one line of actionscript, and
it never worked. however, when i split it into two separate swfs
(one just for graphics, one just for actionscript), it worked! go
    figure.
i also noticed you have to be careful where you place it on
the captivate timeline, depending on what you're trying to do. if
you're calling an end-of-movie function, be sure the swf is only on
the last few frames of the last slide. sometimes when i placed the
actionscript swf on the first frame of my last slide it wouldn't
work, but after moving it down a bit, it worked fine.
lastly, i had to use "_root" to get mine working. i know many
people consider it bad form, but if it works, it works. i did the
    following:
    1. created a function in my Flash interface named "endDemo()"
    2. created an empty Flash file with one line of actionscript:
    _root.endDemo();
    3. imported the swf into my captivate movie and placed it on
the last few frames of the last slide.
    4. set my captivate movie prefs to stop at the end of the
movie, and not to fade out.
    worked for me... good luck!

  • EEWB - frame around the fields.

    Hi gurus,
    could you please help me.
I've added new fields to the business transaction item in CRM using EEWB - extension type = Customer_I. But there is no any frame around them on the customer tab's screen.
It's possible to draw a frame in SE51 (screen painter), but this frame disappears after a new field addition to the extension and a new extension's generation.
Could you please provide any solution of how to make a frame without it's further disappearing after a new fields addition.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sunny.

    Hi there,
As hint captions are text captions and fill cannot be applied to text captions. You can either select transparent captions or captions with callouts.
So you can use available callaouts in the Captivate Gallery under captions (Captivate installation directory > Gallery > captions), and use that one which has a frame.
    Thanks.

  • Nice simple frame around photo

I have a number of photos that I need to put on a site.
I would like the photos to have a simple frame around them.
I realize this is a pretty basic question, and I can think of several ways to do it, but since I am doing a bunch of them I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions.
The built in frames in Fireworks CS4 Auto shapes panel are too fancy for what I want.
Attached is a screen capture of what I would like.  Notice that it's a photo inside of a while frame with a slight drop shadow. I might want to make the white frame a few pixels wider, but the example JPG is basically what I want.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Rowby

If you want a way that you can get that effect using a batch process then I may have a way. Once you get this tweaked, make it a command and run the command in the batch. I have a movie on this part, if interested I'll find it :-)
    open an image
apply a Photoshop stroke, outside, 4 pixels white. You need to tweak settings to get sharp square edges. I didn't do that part.
Apply a FW glow: In property inspector select Shadow nd Glow, width of 1, gray, offset and distance 0 and opacity 100%
Select shadow and glow again and add a drop shawdow.
Once it looks the way you want make a command

  • How do I Add a Picture Frame Around a Flash Video?

I tried searching for this but "frame" has too many meanings. I have flv videos inserted in several web pages, but they look dull without some sort of fancy border or frame around them. Maybe a picture frame. Maybe the image of a flat screen TV surrounding the image. But how do I add the image "behind" the video so that the video sits perfectly inside the image, regardless of the monitor viewing the image.

Do a google search for the IE PNG Fix javascript.  Some work better than others.  The one you had didn't work at all for PNG backgrounds in pre-IE7.
Copy and Paste the following document into a new blank page and see how it looks in all the major browsers.  I changed your document type to XHTML transitional and replaced deprecated <div align> tags with inline CSS styles.  I also ran your Flash code through http://validifyer.com to make it XHTML compliant.

  • Forever Theme Frames around drop zone pictures - can I remove them?

I'm using the forever theme. There are frames around drop zone photo's - not buttons. I've tried hitting the buttons bar with the drop zone highlighted and clicking the none button - but it stays with a white boarder around it. So - i looked in the theme contents - but I don't find anything that looks like a white frame... I checked out the plist file -and it looked all compiled - funny script and all - any way to eliminate these frames? I use a lot of transparent gifs for the purpose that I don't want a frame around them - so they just float over the background.

    Does this help?
    From the iDvd Help Menu:
Repositioning an image or movie in a drop zone
When you drag a picture or movie into a drop zone, the aspect ratio of the image is preserved, but it is scaled larger or smaller to fill the drop zone. As a result, sometimes part of the image is cut off and does not appear in the drop zone. In this case, you can move the image to choose which portion is visible in the drop zone.
To reposition an image or movie in a drop zone:
1.) From the drop zone on the menu (not in the drop zone editor), click the image or movie and press Command.
2.) Drag the image until the part you want is visible in the drop zone.
Keep these things in mind as you position an image:
If you drag a narrow image to a drop zone, the image is scaled vertically, and you can move the image up or down only.
If you drag a wide image to a drop zone, the image is scaled horizontally, and you can move the image side to side only.
If you accidentally drag the image too far, you will remove it from the drop zone. (The cursor changes from a hand to a puff of smoke.) Choose Edit > Undo to restore the image to the drop zone.
Repositioning a movie in a drop zone is different from selecting which part of a movie shows in a drop zone (which allows you to select which frame of the movie is displayed in a drop zone). For more information, see Related Topics below.

  • Black frame around clip?

    Hello
I have a movie clip (saved as a .mov file) and I have noticed that it plays with a black frame around it whether I play it on the desktop (WMP) or on a DVD. The original VHS (C) tape fills the whole TV screen (there is no black frame) and I wondered how I may remove the black frame.
    These are my export settings
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    QuickTime
    have Presets = PAL DV
under the Advanced Button/Video Tab set
    Video Codec = H.264
I then change the frame dimensions as follows:
    Frame Width = 768 pixels
    Frame Height = 576 pixels
Frame Rate = 25 frames per second
    Field Type = Progressive
    Aspect = Square Pixels (1.0)
For DVD, I choose PAL Dolby (not widescreen).
    Thank you.
    Steve

    Hello ATR
Thanks for coming back to me.

If you can get PAL footage for your .mov fine. If not, and you are left with the NTSC counterpart, here is the plan (grand plan or dud). Let us see
Import your 640 x 480 @ 30 frames per second into Premiere Elements with the NTSC DV Standard project preset (you will probably have to set the project preset yourself manually before you import the file...to do that File Menu/New/Project, change the project preset to NTSC DV Standard, and, before exiting the new project dialog, make sure that you have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project". Then import your file with Add Media/Project Assets.
In Project Assets, right click the thumbnail for the file there and select Interpret Footage. In the Frame Rate section of the Interpret Footage dialog, dot "Assume this frame rate" and fill in 25.00. Leave the rest as is which should be with Pixel Aspect Ratio = Square Pixels (1.0).
When you are ready to export, give the following a try:
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    QuickTime
    have Presets = PAL DV
under the Advanced Button/Video Tab set
    Video Codec = H.264
    Frame Width = 768 pixels
    Frame Height = 576 pixels
Frame Rate = 25 frames per second
    Field Type = Progressive
    Aspect = Square Pixels (1.0)
For now leave everything else as is.
At playback, check the quality of the video and audio as well as flow of the motion.
We will be watching for your results.
    Thank you.
    ATR
    Is that what you mean?
