FrameMaker autonumbers RoboHelp Word numbering?

Is there some way to configure RoboHelp to convert FrameMaker autonumbers to normal Word numbering? By default it's converting them to static text.
MIF2Go will convert autonumbers to SEQ fields, which is of course the way experts handle numbering in Word, but in this case Word is just a transitional format between FrameMaker and Confluence, which converts Word numbered lists to <ol> but converts SEQ fields to static text.

  • Robohelp Word quits generating HTML Help after 2 MB of images

Hi, I'm trying to evaluate RoboHelp for Word 8 for my company. I'm using the trial version of RoboHelp 8 for Word. In the process of building the contents for the hep files in the Word document I insert images via the Insert -> Picture -> From File menu in Word. After I've inserted about 2 mb of images RoboHelp hangs when I run RoboHelps File -> Generate Primary Layout, for MS HtmlHelp, from the menu. The Output compiler just basically hangs with the following:
    Starting compilation...
    Clearing output folder...
    Starting compilation...
I found the image at the border of the size limit and delete it and am able to generate the output. I can also replace it with a much smaller image and can generate the output.
This seems awfully strange to me, 2MB is nothing. We're using mostly JPG image and two small GIFs. Could this be just a problem with the trial version of RoboHelp 8 or maybe RoboHelp wants images inserted into Word in a different way?
Thanks, I appreciate any information you can provide me.

Thanks Peter, I just tried RoboHelp HTML, you're right it works great linking to the word file! The CHM didn't come out as a standard Help file, everyting came out in a flat file instead of the different books, TOC and subtopics.
We're just using Word 2003. I figured out how to do it in Robohelp Word. You save the images as BMPs using Image Workshop. Then in the topics you use the Word Menu: Edit  -> Paste Help Image and that shows up as a tag in the Word topic.
Thanks, I think I'll just go with the second way and get it done so I can get on with other things.

  • FrameMaker - CMS - RoboHelp

Hello, hoping someone can answer this one for me.  I am using TCS v3.
We create documents using Structured FM, which are currently imported into RoboHelp, but we would like to move toward linking the files in the near future.  Currently, we are looking into using a CMS like Alfresco with FrameMaker.  I have been unable to find a way to link the files that are checked out via the CMS into FrameMaker with RoboHelp.  What I would like to do is as follows:  Create Structured Frame file and upload into CMS for editing / reviewing by multiple authors, link this file into RoboHelp, have any changes made to the file after check out / check in using CMS be reflected in the linked RoboHelp file.
Is anyone aware of a way to do this outside of having to pull the files off the CMS to link them in RoboHelp, then copy them out of the CMS each time they are changed?  I am looking into using Alfresco, but am definitely open to other CMS if they can accomplish what I need to do.

By CMS, do you mean what software should you use to produce your electronic output from Fm?
In Fm12, you can do the lion's share of formats directly from the app, including Responsive HTML5. The process is analogous to what you're currently doing with Rh, so if you already have that set up, you will have a few admin advantages to maintaining that workflow.
    Other options exist like:
    mif2go (as Arnis mentioned)
    webworks
    import each time into Flare
and each have their own issues with setup, maintenance, and workflow. Having already invested in s/w and setup, I doubt you'd be happier by reinventing the wheel.

  • What is "RoboHelp Word COM addin" for Microsoft Word?

    HI,
    I can't find a solution anywhere!
A few months ago, I was able to create a PDF using Acrobat Professional 8 >> Create PDF from file, and then I suddenly could not. On Adobe's site, I found that I needed to re-enable this particular addin, which was disabled during Word updates. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/401/kb401734.html
While correcting this issue, I noticed that I have a RoboHelp Word COM addin listed in the Word Addin screen and it is ALSO disabled.  Does anyone know what this addin is for and if it should be enabled? (and more importantly, why is it disabled!)
    thanks!

My apologies..........not my first post, so I know this, but I was in a rush.........

  • Ilustrations being modified in FrameMaker to Robohelp output

    Hello all,
I noticed a problem in the FrameMaker to Robohelp conversion output. I am using TCS, Framemaker project linked to Robohelp. Outputs are EPUB and Webhelp. My issue exists in both EPUB and Webhelp output.
Some of my source images are in EPS and in AI format, as these formats print nicely in PDF. Some of the illustrations include dashed lines. When I convert the projects, in the Robohelp output, the dashed lines are replaced by solid lines. I contacted support and their response is: Ai, SVG and EPS file format is not supported with Robohelp
This puts a damper on the concept of "single-sourcing" since I'm finding I have to make more and more manual tweaks to my source...
Has anyone run into this? Did you find a solution? I'm not an expert in Illustrations, so kind of stuck here.
I can convert these images to JPG or PNG, but such text based images don't look good in PDF in these formats. (the text is not sharp)
Any ideas? Since I own TCS 4, would I be able to contact support for AI and ask them to help me with finding appropriate AI conversion settings so that my JPG and PNG images (converted from AI and AI EPS) look good in print?
    Thanks.

Couple of things – in the Conversion Settings screen are you having RH use Distiller to process the images? If you aren’t try that & see what the result is like. If you are, turn it off & see what happens. Your other alternative is to generate PDFs of the images and include them by reference in the FM source (conditionalized of course so that they only end up in your RH output) & conditionalize your original images for PDF output only.

  • Robohelp 9 numbered HTML lists problem

I'm having problems with HTML lists in Robohelp 9 that are converted from linked Framemaker 10 xml files. The list numbering restarts from zero after the 9th item and I can't find anywhere that could be configured!
The configuration for the conversion in the Robohelp 'Conversion settings' for the relevant numbered list paragraph in Framemaker is 'Convert autonumber to HTML list'.
Many thanks in advance for any pointers.
    Regards,
    Nick

Are you sure it actually restarts from zero? Have you checked the HTML code? My initial thought after reading this was that you might have some issues with CSS margins and alignments hiding the number in front of your zero. Numbers that should be 10, 11 etc. but shows up as 0,1, 2,3 etc.. Anyways, I would post an image that visualizes your output from RH.
Edit: Have you tested a larger list (20+) to see if things are repeated?

  • Maintaining image quality in FrameMaker and RoboHelp

Can someone tell me how I can maintain image quality in my Word documents in FrameMaker 11 while importing the documents into RoboHelp 10?  Basically, I will be importing Word (help) documents into FrameMaker 11 (hoping to maintain the image quality) then importing those documents in FM to RoboHelp 10 to publish.  Please help.

Well, we have tried multiple times to import our Word files directly into RH in which the images were not satisfactory.  So after going round and round with this...FrameMaker was introduces as a way to solve our image concerns.  However, I do agree with you...it is very cumbersome.  I just want to keep the higher ups pleased.

  • FrameMaker vs RoboHelp

    Hello,
I've been asked to look into the possibility of switching our
help system software from RoboHelp to FrameMaker, primarily due to
the fact that the primary business unit in the company uses FM, and
this would facilitate the need for them to integrate elements of
our help file into theirs as needed (i.e. coordinating separate
help systems for currently separate product lines resulting from a
    merger).
Currently we use RH 5, although the original/current plan is
to upgrade to RH 7 around February.
Because our documentation is almost solely help files (with
almost no printed documentation), FM's word processing capabilities
do not seem especially relevant, so I'm left wondering what general
advantage/disadvantages FM has in comparison to RH as a help
    authoring tool:
    1. What advantages does FM have over RH? (from my research so
far, support for DITA seems to be one example of an advantage)
    2. What disadvantages does FM have in relation to RH? What
would we be specifically losing out on?
    3. What, if any, integration capabilities does FM have with
RH that would be relevant for us? (again, given that we do not work
with larger documentation such as manuals).
Although I believe the current thinking is to either stay
with RH or switch to FM, using both (with or without the full
Technical Communication Suite) may also be an option if there's
    enough benefit to using both.
Thanks in advance for any information regarding this
    issue!

Hi, and welcome to the Forums!
You have obviously done some good homework on both
applications. I'm tempted to say that RoboHelp 7 makes the most
sense because of your comment about "almost no printed
documentation." However, because of your company's "cultural"
affinity for FrameMaker, it might be wise to use RoboHelp 7 within
the Technical Communication Suite as a way of future-proofing any
direction the company may be heading as new technologies (like
    DITA) emerge.
FrameMaker is well-regarded as "industrial-strength" software
for print-oriented documentation and manuals with secondary focus
on producing online help. Conversely, RoboHelp's strength has been
on creating online help with a secondary focus on generating
printed documentation. Now, with the Technical Communication Suite
an author can marry the advantages of both. It provides a "platform
to grown on" as an organization might scale to emerging
    technologies like DITA.
With the Tech Comm Suite you get the ability to more cleanly
import FrameMaker files into your RoboHelp projects and then "link"
the FrameMaker files and update them as the original FM file
changes. I don't know how useful that is for you right now, but it
    is worth a look.
Also, not to be glanced over is the nice integration with
Adobe Captivate which is rapidly growing as a method of
incorporating animated Quick Start videos into RoboHelp online help
    and knowledgebases.
Another thing to think about with the Tech Comm Suite is that
Adobe has mentioned they are putting a lot accelerated development
effort into enhancing this platform. Because of this, I think the
suite is a good investment particularly because the upgrade price
    right now is really attractive.
That's just my 2 cents. Frankly I am a RoboHelp developer and
not that much of a practitioner of FrameMaker. But as I continue to
work with FrameMaker colleagues who provide their files to me,
having the suite helps me import their work into my projects more
    seamlessly.
Also, be sure to check out the
    Adobe Tech Comm Blog as
    you make your evaluation.
    Hope this helps.

  • Best practice RoboHelp Word FM?

I exported a RoboHelp 9 project to .docx and imported it into FrameMaker 10. I've tried various settings and the results are pretty dreadful, among many other things text in table cells seems to be set to zero points. It looks decent in Word, it's the import to FrameMaker where things go wrong. Any suggestions on how to improve things?

I've decided to try to simplify my question in hopes somebody can answer.
How do most Realtors Prepare their paperwork for their Clients?
Imagine this: a Real Estate Agent wants their client to fill-out a purchase contract and addendums.  They want their client's data to be auto-populated in the form before sending it.  The Realtor places stamps in the PDF so that their clients know where to initial or sign the document.
Some clients need a buyers addendum with the contract, some need a dual-agency agreement with the contract, etc.
Let's say there are three documents that could potentially be needed:
    Purchase Contract (Buyers and Sellers)
    Addendum (Buyers Only)
    Agreement (Sellers Only)
It's the "package" that changes most of the time and not the data in the documents themselves.  I would like to be able to create a "Package" to send to the client based upon whether they're considered a "buyer" or a "seller".
Once the package is created, I need to be able to type data in certain fields and have them auto-populate throughout all other matching fields within each document (Price, for instance).  The forms wizard doesn't match up these fields so if the price field is in there 5 times, i have to type it in 5 different times.  To only do it once I have to manually change the tooltip/name to have them all change at the same time.
Optimally, in each package I want to be able to import the client's information from Excel so that most of the person's information is auto-populated.  For example, their name & Address.
My reality is that there aren't only 3 documents, there are 15-25 per client that I mix and match depending in their needs. THE CATCH is that sometimes I have to include protected forms to the package.
If anyone can suggest the most efficient way to do this (or at least any way they do it), I'd really appreciate it.
    -Neil

  • RoboHelp 8 numbers not appearing as in WYSIWYG

Since updating to RoboHelp 8.02, the fonts of the numbers in numbered steps are not appearing correctly in the generated CHM.

  • Creating ePub file in Unstructured FrameMaker 10-RoboHelp 9.

    Hello,
I've created a book in FrameMaker, linked it to a project in RoboHelp and generated an ePub file. I can view the file in Adobe Digital Editions, but cannot load it to an iPad and view.
There are some formatting issues that I need to work on (bullets spacing), but the results appear to be fine.
I ran the file though a epub validator online and see that I have several errors:
-length of the first filename in archive must be 8, but was 9.
-character content of element dc:identifier invalid, must be a string with length at least 1
    -element spine incomplete
    -element navMap incomplete
Can you suggest a way for me to generate ePub files that can be viewed using an iPad (and possibly other devices)?
I've read posts online and viewed videos, but to date, nothing has helped me work through these issues.
    Any guidance would be appreciated.
    m.e.

I just created a project using RH samples, generated the ePUB file and had
the developer load it on the iPad successfully. Obviously, my project is
defective. I'm trying to detect where in the process I made a mistake. The
FrameMaker file generates. My RH file is simple without many settings. I
didn't have any problems linking the FrameMaker files to the RH project.
Generating the ePUB file was successful.
Are there any specific settings in RH that I need to use to generate a
    basic (no formatting) ePUB file?

  • Acrobat 9 Coverting Words/Numbers to Jibberish

Thank you for your help!  My Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard is covering documents with some words and numbers in jibberish.  What are the updates I need?  I tried to obtain Acrobat 9.1 updates but it said this was not compatible with my system.  I have a Window platform purchased in 2011.  I had unstalled and reintalled my Acrobat 9 but the jibberish is still there.

Use ctrl-D and check the fonts that are listed. Are they all embedded? Is the Win7 system 32 or 64-bit?
Can you open Acrobat and go to the help menu to (1) do a repair and (2) do updates?
If you download updates, you generally have to install them in order. Some may be skipped, but you have to start with the latest updates and work back to find which can be skipped. The manual updates are available at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows. If you do the manual updates, you only need to reboot after the last one.
As for compatibility, AA9 works fine on the 32-bit version of Win7. I have not tried it on the 64-bit version, but assume it would work if the updates are in place. Usually the problems are with the printer, not the program itself (I have actually run AA7 on the 64-bit Win7 and the only problem was the print driver.
