Freeze frame - more efficient in Premiere or After Effects?
I've seen tutorials using both programs. I am assembling video clips to bring into after effects for a project. There will be a couple of freeze frames. In an efficient workflow, which program handles the job better?
Thanks in advance.
If you are working in Pro, use Pro.
If you are working in AE, use AE.
For making a freeze frame in Pro I cut 1 frame, hold frame, and extend.

One frame from one of the clips I sent from Premiere to After Effects through "replace with After Effects composition" was permanently burned in After Effects and now it appears in every new composition of every new project I create as the background of such composition.
For example, I sent from Premiere a clip of a building to After Effects for color correction with Finesse, and warp stabilization and then after rendering, finishing, and closing all the applications, now, every time I open After Effects for any other project, whether already-created or brand-new, every existing or newly created composition (in a Mac Command N) you see the image of the building as the background of the composition. If you create a new composition, while it remains empty of any layers, you see the image of the building. If you have an already-created composition with layers, when you turn off all the eyes of the layers, you would expect to see black (nothing) in the composition window (if that's the color you assigned to be as the background of the comp), but instead you see the building. If you change the color of the comp's background in Composition Settings, you still see the building as the background. If you render such empty composition (no layers) you render out the image of the building, not black. I tried clicking everywhere and going through the preferences, and even uninstalling the application and re-installing it, but it seems to be permanently burned in into every comp's background.
Please, any ideas of what's going on and how to get rid of it?
Thanks so much for your help,
RR.Thanks so much Dave. It fixed the problem.

Computer CONSTANTLY restarts while editing with premiere and after effects
Whenever i edit in premiere or after effects, my computer will always just randomly restart. It normally does it more in after effects than premiere, but lately, it has been doing it a lot in premiere, sometimes as much as every 15 minutes. Here are my specs:
Windows 7 64 Bit
i7 Processor
12GB Ram
4tb Raid system
NVIDA GEFORCE video card
800 watt power supply
3ghz speed
Does anyone know what the problem could be? I have been told that it could be the video card before, but I highly doubt that my video card is not sufficient enough for basic video editing on premiere, as I know many people who have worse video cards that edit with no problem. Please help! Here is all the information about my computer:

Adobe Premiere and After Effects CS6 installer failed to initialize on Mac Book Air
Hi everybody,
I'm trying to install Adobe Premiere and After Effects CS6 for at least a month now.
I have downloaded the .dmg file at the Adobe Website and it starts to initializing the installer, then a error show up:
"The installer could not initialize. Download the Adobe Support Advisor."
There is no Adobe Support Advisor when I clicked on the link. "The Adobe Support Advisor has been discontinued" (http://www.adobe.com/support/loganalyzer/)
I've tried this many times, but every time being a failure.

Thanks,
Atul Saini -
Prior to obtaining CS2 I have been working with the other video/audio Adobe tools; Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Encore DVD.
I fully expected to see integration of these products into the Bridge application after CS2 installation. I was disappointed, there does not appear to be any such integration. I do hope that this is in plan, and that I don't have to spend an "upgrade" fee to use integration that should have been there to begin with.
Even if there is no further integration, it would be nice to be able to continue using the Bridge as my "file manager" in the event I have to transfer my CS2 activation to another computer; after all I still have 4 licensed Adobe products installed on the machine, even if there not, quote, CS2 applications.I can't use Bridge with my video products anymore. I have 3 systems in my personal development environment. I am now past the 30 day period before activation of CS2 is required on my video editing machine. Now I am no longer able to use Adobe Bridge with my other Adobe (video) products.
Also, now I've noticed that the next level of video products is available, they now have Bridge integrated. As I anticipated in my first append, I cannot continue using Bridge with my Adobe video products unless I spend more money for an upgrade. If the intention is to have Bridge become an integral tool in the creative process, this policy is short sighted. It can't be that difficult to bring out an update for the CS2 level of bridge that would enable it to work with users that have AE 6.5 or PPro 1.5 installed. -
Premiere and After Effects crash/close on start up
So far have only tried premiere and after effects, the two I'm most interested in, but they close immediately on start up. Tried talking to chat support twice but they keep forwarding my ticket to some mystery help team that never contacts me. My home system is on windows; currently borrowing a mac and everything is running fine on there so far. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Camera raw in Premiere or After Effects. .... ??
I would need to know if there is a plug in for the use camera raw (Photoshop) in Premiere or After Effects. .... The camera raw is great for the video... would be wonderful to have him as filter in Pr or AE. It will be in anticipation?
So far ... not expecting the Photoshop (or Lightroom) iteration of Camera Raw. The comments from staffers are that's a high-use UI for stills shots ... running it for say 30 shots per second times 20 minutes ... you'd need a computer farm to run it in real time. Some of the ... bits & pieces? ... of the interface, might be workable.
I've had a nearly 40 year career as a professional portrait photographer, along with the missus. We've made our living at it, with the odd gazillion hours in Lightroom over the last decade (and some in Photoshop, more for her than me) as we did in the darkroom/color-lab we also had for 20 years before that. My "editing suite" is in what was our b/w darkroom, and second-enlarger station for color printing. The darkroom gear ... sink, enlarger & table ... are still in here. So I've a lot of experience in stills, and yes the Lr/Photoshop ACR things.
When I first came to video a couple years back, I wanted Lr or at LEAST ACR for coloring work. Didn't find the tools in PrPro "intuitive" so tried AfterEffects ... which was somewhat better, the Colorista plugin. However, I did read the Hullfish & Fowler book on color video correction & tools, learned how the pro video tools are set up the way they are & how to work them ... in quite a few different programs. Read the vanHurkman book on SpeedGrade ... and started working with that. It has become my all-time fav program to just sit and play/work in, way too entrancing for me. I'd been asking for at LEAST some curves tools ... and by the time "we" got them in Sg, well ... I'm so used to and preferring the "regular" colorist tools I've only played with the curves a couple times. I've got so many other subtle to hammer options available that I've learned to use that curves seems ... well ... a bit rough.
And in the CC world, the workflow from PrPro to Sg takes a few seconds, and back to PrPro the same. I've not been in Ae for quite a spell except for such things as de-noising or a couple animated title things I did I've already forgotten how to do. PrPro & the Direct Link to/from Sg.

Premiere and After Effects keep running after you close them
Hi,
After I upgraded to Premiere and After Effects CC2014 I noticed that the programs kept running in the background when I closed them. Sometimes the program's wouldn't start or shutdown seconds after starting. In After Effects I noticed that multi-processor rendering was slow. CPU utilisation would alternate between 60% and 99%. I didn't have this problems with the previous CC.
After alot of research and contacting Adobe support I found out that a simple program I had been using for ages called "ObjectDock" was causing all these problems. Without ObjectDock, everything runs smooth. I thought I'd share this with others who might face similar issues.Moving to Premiere Pro... and when you reply there, a LOT more information is needed

Weird distortion in Premiere and After effects CS6 - need urgent help!
Hello,
I've got a serious problem!!! While I was editing a sportsevent I noticed that a lot of shots have some weird distortion. I allready had this problem with other projects. At first I thought it was a problem with my camera (sony EX3).
But today I started digging more into it.
I recorded some test footage and didn't import it into Premiere. Instead I tryed to play it straight from the camera with VLC media player. To my suprise the shot was perfect. Then I opend it with premiere and after effects.
I didn't change anything on the shot and the distortion came back! Then I exported it using media encoder.
I uploaded two clips: 1 rendered with Premiere, and 1 just straight out of the camera.
Even when rendered the distortion is in the shot!
Here is the shot straight out of the camera: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TNfsltos_s
And here is the shot rendered in Premiere: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbctDm2VhWM
I would be very happy if someone can help me out with this! I can't deliver a project to a client with this distortion!Ask in the Premiere forum and provide at least some system info. Looks like decoding issues to me, which would boil down to hardware acceleration issues...

Premiere Pro/After Effects -learning proper workflow?
I'm just beginning with video editing in Premiere Pro/After effects. I have used more basic apps such as iMovie and GoPro Studio. I understand the principles of post production for still images as I am a veteran photo retoucher. But as I want to produce videos with more professional productions values, my plan is to learn these Adobe apps from the ground up -and properly.
2 questions:
1 - Is it correct to assume that most video/audio editing will be performed in Premiere Pro with After Effects used primarily for special affects & enhancements beyond the scope of Premiere Pro? It seems that many features are "Shared", so I want to direct my training efforts in the most appropriate directions.
2 - Would Lynda.com be the best resource for training? I see that some of their offerings are not always for the most current versions of some apps.
There seems to be a jumbled assortment of basic training videos from Adobe. Some are intros from Lynda.com while others are from Adobe and go back to CS6.
Note to Adobe: I would like to see more complete & integrated ADOBE training materials offered for the various CC apps, which would be updated in reasonable relation to newer versions of the various CC apps. I would be willing to pay for quality training materials created by working industry pros.1 - Is it correct to assume that most video/audio editing will be performed in Premiere Pro with After Effects used primarily for special affects & enhancements beyond the scope of Premiere Pro? premiere pro to edit. they have added some audio features to premiere, but if you do need more advanced audio editing, you can use adobe audition. the same can be said of premiere and after effects. they seem to keep slowly adding AE features into premiere pro, but when you need to take it beyond the basics, you then need AE. i would say AE is for visual effects, composting, advanced motion graphics & titling, and fixing video problems with a clip when you cannot in premiere. AE has some tools like the clone tool (photoshop) and rotoscope that premiere doesn't. while you can do some of the same thru different methods in premiere, its just more advanced in AE.
2 - Would Lynda.com be the best resource for training?
most of the information on lynda can be found thru others tutorials on youtube and adobe, and blog type websites etc. however, you could spend a month digging thru the random and unorganized, repetitive information on the web, or just watch a series geared specifically towards the subject you want to learn. time vs money. i have watched some lynda videos and the essentials courses for adobe products are very well done imo. -
Fixing fluctuating iris in premiere or after effects - possible?
Hi everyone. I have some footage of a person giving a lecture. Looks great except that the camera was on auto iris and the exposure changes significantly whenever the speaker moves his head down toward the podium. Don't want to do every adjustment manually because he bobs his head up and down quite often. Is there anyway for premiere or after effects to be "told" what the proper level should be, and then "remember" so that it can fix the fluctuation and give at least the appearance of a steady iris level? Thanks in advance. John
John,
Good luck, and glad that you have the time to work on this. Be patient and study critically. An external, calibrated monitor would be a plus, but if you do not have one, make sure that you are looking at the footage at 100%. Also, if you have a red line above your Clips in the Timeline, I would also Render the footage first, and then probably a few times during the handwork. You can use the WAB (Work Area Bar) to limit the Duration that is Rendered with each press of the Spacebar.
Also, if you have AfterEffects, I'd look into Dag's suggestion, as it might help to "automate" things a bit. I had forgotten about that Effect, but then I'm more of a PrPro-guy and do not use AE as much as I should.
Let us know how it goes,

Video: Can photoshop timeline be exported to Premiere or After Effects?
I love the video ability. Other than just rendering out, can the timeline be exported in an editable way to Premiere or After Effects for further work?
If not, it would be a very useful feature. There are lots of different tips to create timelapse with difficult footage, but my images have always just been pretty smooth. Do not frame blend or try to get fancy. The goal for me is just to make sure that when I shoot, I don't try to change the exposure. Set it yourself, do not use auto. When I shoot sunsets, I start overexposed and end up way underexposed. But it works better than trying to adjust in the middle.
I shoot with a Panasonic GH3 which shoot s much larger image than 1920X1080. That allows me to pan around the image, making it look like I used a slider or zoom lens.
For example, this was show with about 170 images. An image taken every 5 seconds and played back at 24fps.
The original frame looked like this: -
FR: Complete integration of Premiere and After Effects
No more Dynamic Link, all functions of both applications
available within a single interface.
Thoughts?
I might subscribe for this one.I agree 100%.
With proper memory management techniques, I should be able to open the cloud applications the way I open Chrome. When I open Chrome on my desktop, I get a home page with the news I want, a tab for these forums, a tab for Google Maps (which I use a LOT), a tab for YouTube and a couple of others.
When I start up the "Creative Cloud" why can't I have tabs for Premiere Pro, After Effects, Speedgrade, Photoshop & Audition? And I should be able to add or delete any other application from the suite that I want. Like InDesign (now that I finally have a reason to use it to make Premiere Pro titles) or Illustrator. Or Flash. Or whatever.
If I select an After Effects comp on the Premiere Pro sequence and click on the After Effects tab, I should see the comp I had selected. If I select an audio file on the Premiere Pro sequence and click over to Audition, the software should assume I meant "Edit in Audition" and do the same thing.
The tabs across the top should probably disappear unless the cursor goes up into that area, to avoid waste of screen real estate.
Each application should run standalone, or it could run as a piece of the puzzle. Either way.
Why in the world should I have to even save a PSD and then import it into Premiere Pro. If I change from Photoshop to Premiere Pro, a message should come up asking me if I want to import it into Premiere Pro, and give me the option of making this the default action so that it only ever asks me that question once.
Think big, Adobe.
Exactly!

New Machine purchase advice to run Premiere Pro & After Effect 5.5
I am about to purchase a new pc with the following specs: Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit), Intel® Core™i7-930 processor(8MB L2 Cache, 2.80GHz), 12GB Tri Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 6 DIMMs, ATI Radeon HD5970 2GB GDDR5 video card. Are these good features? I cannot find any compatability or certification for any ATI video cards on the Adobe site. Is the video card, ram and cpu good to get the acceleration featured of CS5.5 (specifically Premiere Pro & After Effect)?
To answer your question:
That build could be better equipped.
First off, Windows 7 Home Premium maxes out at 16GB of RAM. This means that if you want to put in 24GB total anytime in the near future, Windows 7 Home Premium will make only the first 16GB available for programs. You will need Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate in order to use more than 16GB of RAM.
Second, Premiere Pro CS5.5 needs more than 12GB to run at its best. However, since that build fills up all six DIMM slots to attain 12GB, you would have to discard some of the DIMMs in order to add more RAM at all. As a result, if you must have only 12GB, I'd recommend three 4GB DIMMs instead of six 2GB DIMMs. These days, 4GB DIMMs sell for about $40 to $50 USD each ($120 to $150 for 12GB, or $240 to $300 for 24GB) whereas a year ago they sold for $200 to $300 USD apiece ($600 to $900 for 12GB; or well over $1,000 for 24GB).
Third, Adobe does not currently support the use of any ATi or AMD GPU in its MPE GPU acceleration feature. This means that any ATi or AMD GPU, including the top-of-the-line models, will force MPE to run in software-only mode. And software-only mode is often 10 times or more slower than MPE GPU mode. At present the MPE GPU mode supports only Nvidia GPU-equipped cards with 896MB or more RAM and CUDA support.
Fourth, that HD 5970 is a dual-GPU card. Unfortunately, Adobe does not support the use of more than one GPU at all, which means that the HD 5970 goes half-unused in any flavor of CS5.x - and then, it goes to software-only mode, to boot since it's not an Nvidia GPU. As a result, the HD 5970 performs no better than an HD 5850 in CS5.x, especially since the HD 5970 actually consists of two HD 5850's on a single card. In other words, dual-GPU cards are a total waste of money, as far as Premiere Pro and After Effects are concerned.
Finally, if that system has only one hard drive, I'd strongly recommend adding two or more additional hard drives. This is because Adobe requires a minimum of two hard drives (one for the OS and programs, the second for everything else) just to run without severe slowdowns in performance. The more (hard drives), the better. -
Premiere and After Effects CS5.5 crash on startup
I had been using Production Premium CS5.5 for a few months without any problems. Then there was a power outtage a couple nights ago and since then Premiere and After Effects crash whenever I try to open them. I get an error message like:
Crash in progress. Last logged message was: <5980><AppDirs> <5> Required Dir = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS5.5\Support Files\Required
The rest of the programs still work fine. I reinstalled a few times, used the Cleaner tool and also tried some solutions on this page:http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/errors-exit-code-6-exit.html, but no luck.
My last installation actually didn't give me any fatal errors or errors, but AE and Premiere still don't work.

Note: I actually planned on upgrading to a new 120GB SSD next week and doing a clean install, do you think that could also fix this problem?Browntimmy I would recommend posting in those product specific forums with your inquiry.
