Frequency each pulse on sound card

" I am trying enters a square sign (of encoder), the sound card filters the waves of high frequency and therefore he lacks labview information to show the perfect sign. But I believe that it is not necessary, that the sign is perfect to calculate the frequency of each pulse. Is it this way?. I alone want to know the frequency of each pulse. I don't care amplitude.
I have tried to calculate the frequency of each pulse. I have recorded the sign and once saved. I have tried to calculate counting the pulses, with the option ' indices', subtracting at the 2º -1º, 3º-2º,... .
but this is not accurate because the sample rate is to 44100 hz and I use signs from 50 hz to 10khz. To high frequency it counts very few points, to 10 khz it co
unts 4 and this is not accurate.
Is there some form of calculating it more accurate?. What vi's can I use?.
Thank you!."

Well, if I understand what you're saying. You are trying to read the frequency of a squarewave coming from an encoder. The problem with doing this with a DAQ card is (to put it simply) the required Nyquist samplng rate. Think for a moment, what is the frequency content of a squarewave? The fundamental (which is what you want) and a theoretically infinite number of harmonics. To adequately sample a squarewave and correctly represent the vertical edges would require an infinitely high sample rate.
If what you need is to measure the squarewave repetition rate, doing it with a DAQ card (or sound card) is the wrong way to do it. What you need is to do a pulse width measurement using a counter.

  • Execute simultaneous MP3 players which are dedicated to each their sound cards on the computer

I would like to control more than one MP3 (e.g. Windows Media Player) player from LabVIEW AND being able to switch the player outputs to each their dedicated sound card, running on the same computer. Is that possible in LabVIEW
I know that the selection of output device is based on ActivX command, that is for Media Player, but I do not quite know which command.
In general, can anybody help me on this topic I would be most obliged.

    AGK-DELTA,
I hope someone knows which ActiveX call it is. Otherwise, I would suggest searching through the help documentation for Windows Media Player and Microsoft's web site. (I tried looking for it, but I did not come up with anything after looking at all of the properties and methods.)
If you do find the answer, please post back to this forum so that we can help other LabVIEW users who may need to use this information.

MSDN is probalby going to be your best source of information for this. Otherwise, I would suggest a net search for the media player active x commands.
Other than that, experiment, try things out.
    Good luck.

I'm not at all familiar with pulseaudio configuration. Does anyone know of a good way for me to resolve this issue? Have I even identified the correct issue?
    UPDATE:
I was able to work around my problem for the moment by symlinking the configuration file to the location that pulseaudio was actually looking for it
    # mkdir -p /usr/share/alsa/ucm/HDA\ Intel
    # ln -s /usr/share/alsa/cards/HDA-Intel.conf /usr/share/alsa/ucm/HDA\ Intel/HDA\ Intel.conf
Although this does get my sound back, it is a hacky work-around and obviously not ideal. Anyone who knows a bit about pulse configuration, I welcome your input here

Thank you so much for posting your solution!
I was having the same problem. The funny part was it started happening (and not always) after KDE says that the Intel HDA device is "gone" and asking me to remove it from my configuration. Even by saying no it wouldn't work. Killing pulseaudio with
    pulseaudio -k
would have everything fallback to Alsa but starting pulseaudio again wouldn't work.
Rebooting right away doesn't take care of the issue either but after a while the problem would go away...
    Any inputs would be appreaciated!

  • Pulse audio no sound card detected

    Hello,
I have installed pulse audio according to the wiki but after install and reboot no sound card is detected. My pc is sony vaio VGN-NW21MF and the lspci output for the sound device is following

  • [Solved] SB Live 5.1 Sound card changes after each reboot.

    Hi
I have SB Live 5.1 soundcard that changes it's "location" after each upgrade, and I have to do the changes manually in the different applications: xmms, vlc, xine, etc in order to have sound back.
As you can imagine it's quite tediuos to do the changes everytime.
And videos, radio or music, can't be heard at all from internet.
Only when sound card is in hw: 0,0 no manually setups are not needed and sound in internet is ok.
This is the aplay -l output when is in hw: 0,0

    Hi
Now it's solved following this link: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ALSA
There found section: Set the default sound card
Where have to change file /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
    options snd-emu10k1 index=0
and also in /etc/rc.conf disable modules of the other sound card:
    MODULES=(!snd-via82xx)

  • External usb sound card is not working correctly

When my computer usb sound card is working correctly. If your computer to sleep and wake up the sound card is working correctly. If you disable the sound card and connect again, it appears extraneous sound on the background music playing. Each time the sound is different. The sound is very similar to not match the sampling frequency. If the computer is rebooted, then the sound card is working properly again.
    Soundcard Infra-sonic.com model Amon.
I have not experienced problems when using the same card with Mac OS 10.5.8 with the drivers for Mac OS 10.5
Manufacturer issued driver for Snow Leopard, but the card still does not work correctly.
Also such problems, other users complain about an external USB audio card. None of the users can not find a solution to this problem.

  • Frequency divider/ pulse generation from 1 to n

    Hi,
I have a sample pulse which in some cases needs to be divided. I tried to use the pulse train generation function, which works fine (giving me a pulse every n sample pulses), but only starting at 2 input pulses. I need to be able to use this function from a division of 1 and up.
Put in another way, can a counter be configured in such a way that it outputs a pulse every rising edge of the source signal?
I'm using a PXI 6602 counter card and am programming it through calls to NIDAQ32.DLL under Labview 7.

    Hi Walter,
In short, no. You can't output a pulse on every input pulse. You can however configure the degree of division. Here are the rules for division:
When set to pulse train generation, you will have a register for the low value of the pulse train and a register for the high value. What happens in typical pulse generation is that these registers are loaded with count values such as 2 and 2 for each register respectively. In default operation, the first register will count 2 pulses on the source and then toggle the output. The second register will then count to pulses and toggle the output again. The operation then cycles back to the first register. This toggling effectively creates a pulse train that is divided by 4 and a duty cycle of 50%.
You can however change the output mode to pulse instead of toggling upon completion of counting on a register. In the above example, you would count 2 source edges and then pulse for the first register and the count 2 more edges and pulse again for the second register. You will of course repeat this in pulse train generation mode. This mode allows you to obtain greater resolution since you are now dividing by 2 but your duty cycle will be different. Each pulsed output will be equivalent in size to the source pulse width.
Finally, the two registers can be populated with integer values of 2 or greater. Therefore, the smallest frequency division is 2.
You will have to work with these three elements to obtain the pulse train of your desired frequency. Hope that helps. Have a good day.

  • Recommended sound card for Oracle Redhat Linux 64 bit?

    Dear Experts,
I'm trying to install the latest Oracle Redhat 5.
64 bit. On a certified Asus motherboard.
It will be a dual boot windows/Linux machine.
And I'm having an awful time with the sound card for my new server.
(It will be used for learning, at home. It's important to
have sound for some instructional videos that I will also watch.)
Other installs, sound has installed and worked fine.
I believe it's partially because the sound came directly off
    the motherboard in those cases.
But with this new server, it came with a sound card, no onboard.
The sound card works with windows. But not with Linux.
I've been swapping three sound cards in and out, trying to get
one to work. Each has some partial success, but none meet all
    of the requirements (below).
What is really frustrating is that I want the sound to go
to the green headphone jack on the front of the computer case.
To do this, there is a cable that connects the sound card, to
    the front of the chassis.
The existing sound card that I have, has a connector for this.
It is an "HD audio", or an AC 97 connector. There two rows of
five pins, with one pin blocked up, so that the connector is
inserted in the correct manner. The cord is hard wired to the case.
You can see some images of the pins and the cords here:

You would figure that whether the connector existed or not would be a standard
feature that would be listed for sound cards. But it's rare to find it listed anywhere.
When I went to the computer store, I had to open all the boxes to see if it
was there or not!!!! Manufacturers, this is not that difficult!!
At this point, after a couple of days of struggle, I just want to buy a
simple sound card that works right out of the box.
    Here are the requirements:
    - gets instantly recognized by Linux (Oracle Redhat 5) 64 bit, and plays sound
with the standard Linux drivers. I believe I have all of the drivers installed,
because a few cards do play with them automatically. During installation, I
    installed Every package available.
    - no installation of special Linux drivers required.
    - the other big requirment is that the card have output to an HD Audio,
or AC 97 connector, and will play music through the headphone jack.
(Believe it or not, I have one card that works fine out the back,
but won't work through the HD Audio. But it works fine in Windows)
    - will also work with Windows 64 bit.
Does anyone have any good sound card recommendations that will meet all these requirements?
    Thanks a lot!

Almost a year later... what have you been listening too? :-)
I have to admit that I'm not an expert for "sound" under Linux. I think you may find http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Main_Page interesting. It also shows which sound cards are compatible.
ALSA is pretty much standard under Linux and stands for Advanced Linux Sound Architecture. Together with pulse-audio it provides audio and MIDI functionality to the Linux operating system and is, by default, also included in RHEL and other descendants. You can install pulseaudio support using the EPEL repository following the instructions at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL
    wget rpm -Uvh http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/5/x86_64/epel-release-5-4.noarch.rpm
    sudo rpm -Uvh epel-release-5-4.noarch.rpm
    yum list alsa* pulseaudio*
    Loaded plugins: downloadonly, rhnplugin, security
This system is not registered with ULN.
    ULN support will be disabled.

  • Sound card works but not when rebooting

    i followed all the steps...
    alsaconf
    alsamixer
    /etc...noise.wav
    alsactl store
    edited the rc.conf
sound works but when i reboot, before the root i get the error... sound card not found?

check in rc.conf and see if your sound module isn't listed. Odd that it doesn't find your sound card on boot.
U may also need to run alsactl store as root. Permission problem, possibly?
sounds like alsaconfig is finding and loading the module each time u reboot, but its not being loaded because I think u need to run alsactl store as root, since it needs to be loaded by the kernel. That would require root privileges I would think. That's my best guess.

  • "A How-To" on the steps to FIX the Problem of NO Sound Card DETECTION with AUDIGY 2 and Win XP

Note#: When restarting the PC each time, shut off the main power switch on the Power Supply then back on.
Note#2: You will need the Windows XP CD WITH the SP2 on it or have the download SP2 Install file from MS on your PC. I have it on CD.
    . Remove the sound Card
    2. Use the Removal/Un-installation Procedures for the drivers in Knowledge Base Under Windows XP Step by step. Restart to get all the files deleted in the Creative folder if necessary.
Here is the (Solution ID#) for the Uninstallaion found in the Creative.com Knowledge Base: SID72 "How to uninstall Sound Blaster drivers and applications?"
Alternati'vely, Click on the Sound Blaster Picture Box under the Knowledge Base Main Search Page and the article should be in the resulting list.
    3. Use the DCProSetup_.exe from http://files.trunetworks.com/utilities/
Use it carefully Selecting [Creative] then Check the box for Muntiple Cleaning Filters, and remove the Creative Audio Drivers by Clicking on Start.
    4. Go into the Registry by Typing Regedit in the Start>Run.. Menu
Navigate and remove the Entry for CTCMSGo.exe, it is running in the back ground otherwise and i believe it interrupts the re-installation of MediaSource Files.
    HKEY_CURRENT USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
The file link/tag, it will be on the right half of the screen, Delete it. CTCMSGo.exe=(Creative Technologies Media Source Go)
    5. Restart the PC, dont forget to switch Power Supply to off while powered down and on before powering back up.
6.Go to the Win XP SP2 CD or the file downloaded, select re-install but choose UPDATE, not New Installation. Let the Install run and update your pc, this procedure has no data loss or settings changes in Windows.
    7. Restart PC
    8. Turn off PC and install the Audigy 2 Card. Then turn on the PC. At this point you might get a plxcore.plx Error of file missing. Not to worry.. copy the file from within the Creative Drivers CD and paste it into the Creative Folder In C:\Program Files\Creative
The Knowledge base Article on the steps is: SID287 "Error: Program could not load because Plxcore.plx cannot be found"
    9. Power up and see if you get PCI Device, and Audio Controller Detetion. If you dont then do the following:
    A) Remove the Sound Card and Re-install the Win XP SP2 Update a number of times ( I did this about 5 times until detection) Each time restart and install the Sound Card into any of the empty PCI Ports until detection.
If that does not work after a number of times try the following:
B)Power off and switch the PCI slot of the Sound Card (to all the PCI slots if necessary with complete power off each time) Without Re-installing XP SP2 Update.
    0. After you get Detection, The Windows Auto Installer for Drivers will pop up..select Find Drivers Automatically, then Install then install the drivers it finds. It will put in some basic Audigy Drivers from the CD or online i'm not sure where it gets them from. Keep your Driver CD in the CD Dri've.
.Restart the PC, then install the Drivers and Media Source Files from the CD (it may not all get installed and may give an error and you have to shut down and re-install the drivers and Media Source over again and over again so it fills in the gap of missing files/drivers until it all works without deleting the previously installed parts).
    2. Only install this update from the File/ Downloads Section on the Creative website: EAX4DRV_AUDIGY2__84_50.exe Dated 29 July 04. The new beta one that was released is what started all my troubles, so plz i urge you to wait for it to be official.. unless you really want to test it out at your risk.
And there you have it.. in 8 Hours and some ideas from friends and relati'ves concerning detection problems of other hard ware they have had i decided to play Roulette all night and this combo works. I had to play Roulette switching the PCI slots (5 of them), and then towards the end play Roulette with the Creative Driver CD install... until they all work perfectly. WHEW!!!
Notice: I hope if you are really ticked off at having no sounds and want to try this at your own risk and responsiblity go ahead, and I wish you luck. None of the proedures are too out of the ordinary. I dont know if it will work for you but it worked for me and maybe it will possibly for other similar Sound Cards as well.. like ZS or Li've! etc. with similar problems. Happy Sound Blasting!!!
My Specs: P4 3.2Ghz Prescott on Intel D875PBZ MB, pqi GB PC3200 Dual Channel RAM, Win XP SP2, Plextor CD-R and DVD Dri'ves, BFG 6600GT OC 28MB and the Audigy 2 Sound CardMessage Edited by Flying_Ghost on 05-04-2005 09:38 PM

Thanks for pointing that out, it was not apparent on the day i used them and wrote the How-To. The links have been replaced with the SID# (Solution ID #) and the title given for the Article.
    Have fun

  • New sound card (E-MU 1212M) won't record higher than 48kHz

I'm running Windows XP Pro/SP2 with a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 processor (motherboard is Elitegroup 848P-A). I have 1GB of RAM installed.
I do a lot of vinyl transfer work. I decided to upgrade sound cards to the E-MU 1212M to improve the overall quality of my audio.
The card install went well. I'm receiving an audio signal just fine. I can playback at 44.1, 48, 96, 192.
The only hitch is when I try to record. I can record at 44.1 & 48 but if I try to record at 96 or 192 I get the following message:"Another application has caused a sample rate change that makes the current session invalid. You may accept this change by loading session at the new sample rate indicated below...." The sample rate that it shows me is always 44.1 So when receiving this message it always wants to push me back to 44.1 This message pops up immediately after I hit the red "record" button.
There are no other audio applications similar to Audition installed on my set up. I have turned off the system sounds, the 1212M card is recognized as the default audio device. The on-board sound card has been disabled along with its drivers. Gone also are the drivers from my previous sound card.
The settings between the 1212M and Audition are following along with each other. If I set the 1212M for 44.1, 48, 96, or 192 and then open up Audition and check the hardware settings, its at whatever I had set the 1212M to.
Ive also gone through what items are being loaded during start-up of my computer. Ive tried disconnecting from the internet and shutting down all programs that might be active, ensuring that no other programs are running other than Au 3 and the 1212M PatchMix panel.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for your time.
    -DLedin

"Before you did that, did you start a new session at 96k, and it still won't record into it? "
If you're asking if I first start a new session in PatchMix, yes, that's correct. I call up the 96k session in PatchMix first. Then I go and open up Audition to try to record.
If you're asking me if I start a new session in Audition 3 first, then I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that. Remember, I'm new to Au 3. When working in Audition 1.5, I could hit the "record" button and a window would pop up, prompting me to enter a sample rate and bit depth for the audio I'm about to record. I enter what I want to do and press "OK", then Audition starts to record. I don't know if that window is what you're referring to as a "session".
If that is a what you mean by "session" then I would need to do some experimenting by setting PatchMix to 44.1, then open up Audition, hit "record", specify 96/24 in the window that pops up and see what happens. I would hope that I'd get a message from PatchMix that I need to go to set PatchMix for a 96k "session". That's actually a possibility I hadn't previously considered trying. I'm at work now but will look into this possibility after I'm back home & report back.
    -DLedin
EDIT: Since my last reading of your message you added a question:"Also, when you set the session up, did you take the check out of the 'use default' box?"
Please specify which application you're referring to when you say "session". PatchMix uses the term quite a lot. If there's a "use default" box somewhere that I need to take a look at then I need to know if it's in Audition 3 or PatchMix and just where to find it. Also, should that "use default" box be checked or unchecked? I appreciate your patience.

Ok it seems that I would have no sound cards listed by aplay -l if I logged in from lightdm, If I logged in from a tty I would get sound cards listed from aplay -l.
I think lightdm 1:1.6.1-2 fixed my problem, everything works now, Id like to know why/how this happened if anyone knows? Thanks.

  • Audigy 4 pro sound card HELL please advise!!!

    hi all,
right i'll TRY to keep it simple!.....
BEFORE my (recently brand new) hard dri've died and caused me all sorts of probs (and ?300) my soundcard was fine it was :
    windows 7
    audigy 4
    cubase 4
daniel k's drivers (i think OR it was the one that came with the card)
with this i HAD the option of acti've X driver OR creative asio (used this as was much much better)
SINCE it died i've tried everything for days and days of hell to get this driver on, heres the symptoms:
using the CD that came with the audigy it takes 45 mins to load and then tells me there is NO sound card fitted (tried this 3 or 4 times)..
i physically took t?he card out (twice) and it made no difference and still didnt recognise any card fitted.
i've had to system restore a few times to get it 'see' ANY driver.....i've also downloaded some drivers but same symptoms as above.
using the acti've x the latency is a prob though i have adjusted it to make it work BUT am thinking this is one of the reasons my cubase freezes / crashes / and now makes crackling noise especially when using a reverb vst.
the whole system was great B4 this and i've lost 3 or 4 days and am now at the throwing it out of the window phase.
BEFORE it handled superior drummer as a VST and midi / audio files + reverbs all at the same time NO problem.
the current set up is almost identical and in fact a tickle better than B4 so WHY wont it see a sound card ?when trying a different dirver?
    HELP! Si in Brighton.

    ta...yes it does.
works (almost) fine with the acti've X driver, apart from telling me line/mic is NOT available....spent all day (again) trying to get the 3.8 daniel K pack on there.....came back with 'somethings wrong' meessage each time.
it just baffles me that my hard dri've
cd rom AND now (maybe) the card all ferk up at exactly the same time!
i recorded afterwards and it was fine for hours.....
    cheers si
