Access address book of yahoo from Java Progam

I am working on an application for which I need help.
The application retrieves the contents of 'address book' when provided with login information of yahoo or any other email account. Can somebody let me know the way to do it??
I believe that for different email service providers, the method to access the address-book would be different. Can anybody leads to any of the service providers??
Thanks

It likely would be, if it's supported at all. Ask the support department of your service provider.

  • Access Address Book data from terminal

    Hi everyone,
    I was wondering if there is a way to access Address Book data from the terminal. For instance, I would
    need a command that would output an address of a given person.
    Thanks in advance for your input

    this script could be used in Terminal (save the code below as
    "getaddress" and mark it as executable):
    case $# in
    2) firstname=$1; lastname=$2;;
    *) echo 'Usage: getaddress <firstname> <lastname>' 1>&2; exit 1 ;;
    esac
    count=`osascript -e "tell application \"Address Book\" to count (people whose first name is \"${firstname}\" and last name is \"${lastname}\")"`
    case $count in
    0) echo "$firstname $lastname is not in Address Book." 1>&2; exit 1;;
    1) ;;
    *) echo "There are multiple entries for $firstname $lastname in Address Book (unhandled error)." 1>&2; exit 1;;
    esac
    osascript -e "tell application \"Address Book\" to get formatted address of address of first person whose first name is \"${firstname}\" and last name is \"${lastname}\""

  • Access Address Book from other applications

    Hi there,
    How can I access Address Book information from other applications (notably the command line, OpenOffice, etc.)?
    In particular, is there a command line utility to access and edit the Address Book?
    Thanks!
    Brian

    One of the best answers would have been the CPAN module: Mac::Glue. Cheers.

  • Sync address book to Yahoo?

    I'd like to sync my mac address book with my Yahoo! address book. Currently, the yahoo book mirrors a very old version of the Mac book. When I turn on the option in Address Book (Preferences/General) and then do a sync, it gives me two options - copy from Yahoo to Address Book, or merge the two. What I want is a third option - copy from Address Book to Yahoo - that doesn't seem to exist. When I try a merge, it threatens to change lots of my existing entries, and not in a good way, since my Mac addresses are the correct ones. I tried deleting all entries on Yahoo, but then when I do a sync with the merge option it wants to delete my entire Mac address book as well. Sheesh!
    How do I make this work?
    BTW, I think that I originally populated the Yahoo book from the Mac, but I can't figure out how I did it. Did Address Book used to have an option to export a .csv file? It doesn't seem to have such an option now, but I could swear that it did, once upon a time.
    Thanks for any help with this.

    Jerry, I've had the same problem. And the solutions offered by many involve third party apps and workarounds. That's not the answer, that's not SYNC, rather, we should take Apple to task, not make excuses for them. Enough of my ranting - here's what worked for me.
    Like everyone else, I was excited about the possibilities of MobileMe and then, shockingly disappointed. I synced Mobile Me, Yahoo and and Iphone with disastrous results. Fortunately, I backed up everything. Decided to chuck MobileMe for a few months while Apple worked out the kinks.
    But still had problems with Yahoo and Mac's Address Book. I discovered two potential problems. When an address book in Yahoo is deleted, it's stored in the Trash folder and probably confuses the sync mechanism so empty your Yahoo Trash folder. Secondly, as mentioned in previous replies, you do need to turn on the isync feature and click on "sync now" after you enable Yahoo in your Address Book preferences. It's OK to click on Merge Data since nothing exists in Yahoo to corrupt your Mac Address Book.
    You'll probably see 100 contacts within a minute of syncing but the rest take a few minutes (I also have over 500 contacts). Log out and back in again and your Yahoo Address Book should be populated.
    Hope this helps and hope it works for you!
    I've heard good things about Plaxo and tried it briefly a few month ago but wasn't impressed, but meant to try again when I have more time. Thanks for the reminder Toadman.

  • Address book contacts imported from .cvs file are duplicated/split on sync

    Contacts on my iPod are weird--there are duplicate entries for some people, but one of the duplicates contains only email addresses whereas the other has all the remaining info. Everything seems normal in Addresss Book--no duplicates, and all the info. is there. Not all of my contact entries have this this duplication/split info. problem. Those that have the problem were originally imported into Address Book from an Excel .cvs file. I also sync with a Motorola Razr and the same names were duplicated fully on the phone, with each entry having all the phone numbers that should have been synced. Anyone know what's going on or how to fix this?

    Anyone with an answer out there??? Same thing happened to me, nothing in my address book but Yahoo is loaded and has triplicated everything.

  • Cannot access address book following archive and install

    Following an archive and install with 10.5.8 I find that when attempting to access Address Book, Font Book, Text Edit and Time Machine I get the following admonition on the screen, " You can't open the application because it is not supported on this architecture."
    How can I restore these applications?

    Sdgardne, thank you so much! Using your post and links I was able to restore my address book after upgrading my software and having trouble with my address book. And I am very technologically challenged so I appreciate having something I could understand and follow.

  • Sync Address Book with Yahoo Address book?

    Hi there,
    just wondering if its possible to some how sync Address Book with Yahoo Address book?
    That is... I have an elaborate Address Book setup on Yahoo, I'd like it so that if I use Yahoo Address Book and create/delete contacts that when I get home and use Address Book, Address Book syncs the contacts structure to the yahoo structure, without me manually intervening...
    Is this possible or is there a tool/widget that does this already?
    Thanks

    while looking for somehting else, i found something here in the discussions that might do the trick. it involves another web-based address book, but might work for you. try getting the plaxo address book plug-in, and then sync your yahoo contacts with plaxo, and then sync that with address book. i'm not sure of the order that would give you the best results, but i'm working on using plaxo as an online backup of my address book, as i will most-likely not be using plaxo otherwise.
    my concern for you would be whether one would write over the other, so back up your address book first, or even export the entire thing as a vcard file to your desktop, and then you can re-import and merge them... that way you can sync with your yahoo account, and then add whatever is already in your address book and merge whatever is necessary.
    search here in the discussions for the plaxo plug-in, and see if that sounds like it would work for you. the only issue i have right now is that it seems that the plaxo install has somehow affected my icalfix plug-in, but i'll look into fixing that this weekend, i'm sure i just need to move some plug-ins around.
    cheers,

  • Moving Mail, Address Book and Keychains from Old Computer to New Computer

    My issue: Moving mail, address book and keychains from Panther (old machine) to Leopard (new machine). Old machine (500mh G4 power pc) will not connect directly via firewire to new machine (iMac intel). So, I have to move the files manually via a firewire hard drive.
    I am looking for a document that will tell me exactly which files to move. Can someone please help me find this document? Thank you. Dale
    P.S. I have no issues with installing Leopard. I only need to move the mail, address book and keychains from old to new machine. No .mac account is available.

    for address book: go to your old mac, launch ab, and go to file>export and export your contacts as vcards, select all cards before that, then bring that export file to the new mac, and launch ab there, then go to file>import as vcards and you should be set as far as contacts are, but not as far as groups if you have extensive groups. that would be the safe option. the other option is to go to homefolder/library/application support/address book and move that folder to the new mac. the only question i have is... is the database structure and files the same between panther and leopard, which is why i suggest the first option of import/export of vcards.
    for mail, in your old panther go to homefolder/library/mail and move that mail folder to the new mac. make a copy of that folder, then move one copy to the same location in the new mac.
    for keychain, in your old panther go to homefolder/library/keychain, you want to bring the file that is in that folder to your new mac. make a copy of that folder, then move one copy to the same location in the new mac.
    once that is done, you may have to do some more steps with mail, once you launch mail, such as importing mailboxes. let me know if that is the case.
    hope this helps

  • HT4993 transfer my address book and photos from my nokia to my iPhone?

    transfer my address book and photos from my nokia to my iPhone?

    You need to transfer the contacts and photos from the Nokia to your Mac (via Bluetooth or USB cable), import the contacts into Address Book and the photos into iPhoto and then sync them to the iPhone via iTunes.

  • I synced Address Book with Yahoo Contacts BUT....

    My iPad Address Book and Yahoo Contacts are sorta synced, but how can I make my Apple Address Book look more like my Yahoo Contacts? Address Book displays the contacts by first names and there are LOTs of "no names" even though I deleted the duplicates in Yahoo.

    If you have contacts in both and you have the iphone/itunes set to sync with your Yahoo Address book, then the two sets should be merged.

  • Cannot access address book contacts in yahoo mail. Firefox 4. Contacts list will not load. With Windows Explorer, no problem.

    Recently, yahoo mail upgraded their program. When I try to access my contacts (address book) the contacts list won't load. The little spinning icon just keeps spinning. I think this is a Firefox problem because Internet Explorer works okay. Also, I have problems accessing some secure sites using Firefox 4, but not with Explorer. I prefer Firefox. How can I resolve this?

    I have no access to my Yahoo contacts. I cannot search or browse them. The only way I can get ONE is by adding the contact from an email. Then, if I ask to see more contacts either through the partial alphabet buttons or to see the entire list of contacts, I'm back to the same search page where NOTHING happens. Did I say this is VERY frustrating?? HELP

  • How can I access Address Book data from an older version of the application to transfer it to a newer version of Mac OS running on a second hard drive on the same MDD G4?

    I installed a hard drive from one PowerPC Dual 1.25 GHz MDD into another one with an older version of the OS X.  all my Address Book data are on the older hard drive, from which I now boot the computer.  When I launch Address Book as an app on the hard drive with the newer version of the OS, I get an error message that says I cannot run the version of Address Book from the older hard drive on the newer OS.  How can I access the data on the older hard drive version of the Address Book app so that I can transfer it to the newer version of the app on the boot drive?  The "Import" functionality will not work. I will be grateful for any help I can get.  I would also like to uninstall the older version of OS X from the older hard drive.

    Boot from the older version of OSX, then in AB use the File>Export>Export vCard after selecting all in AB.
    Then boot from the new OSx & use the new AB to import that VCF file.

  • Access Address Book from Menu Bar ?

    There used to be a few utilities that allowed access to the Address Book from the menu bar, but they haven't been updated for years.
    Anyone know of a good solution?

    Yeah, I thought that too, but reinstalling iAddressX did not help. The utility didn't work (and also did not create any new files in the Application Support/AddressBook folder).
    I don't think iAddressX was interfering with the Address Book, since I've been using them both under Leopard since day 1 of Leopard. My sync problems developed just a few days ago. I was just wondering if I deleted something that was needed for iAddressX to work (or worse, will cause me other problems down the road).

  • Accessing Address Book Remotely from PC

    I want to access/update my address book (on a Mac at home) from work (on a PC). Can this be done?

    Short answer has to be no.
    Longer - well, I suppose you could mount your Mac hard disk (using SMB?) on the Windows PC, which would let you see the address book data file - but that isn't going to be readable by a Windows program. You could consider running a Mac emulator on your windows machine, and so run Address Book, but you would still have the problem of persuading AB to look for its data file on the remote Mac rather than the local emulated one. You could go for more complicated(!!) solutions - run an app on the mac that would respond to messages from the PC, to retrieve or modify AB data. You could probaly even set up a web application on the mac to simplify it. But is it worth the effort?
    What are you trying to do?

    i think what happened was a sync between my BlackBerry and the mac must have knocked out that information (somehow) hence the balls up.
    Hi William
    Clarification: Are you saying these web entries are not in your BlackBerry? If so, are you saying when you synched with the Address Book, the web field was overwritten by the BlackBerry, hence, deleting the entries from the Address Book?
