Frequent BSOD in Win 7. Memory Mangement, PFN_LIST etc

Dear Expert,
I have frequent win7 BSOD. the details are loaded in my skydrive named - vy,.
I have a three year old computer running on Zotac motherboard. Local computer expert says time to change the motherboard. But no solid explanatione with him except that the onboard GPU chip heats(as per his estimation).
I am not so sure. Kindly analyse and let me know if I need a mobo change. I have got the hard drive formatted and did a clean reinsatall of Win 7 twice, but it is not helping. The crashes happen more when computer is stressed(no of browser windows, videos,
pictures etc. ) but restarts on its own. No data has been corrupted so far. I don't play games.
Please respond ASAP. I will be grateful.

Hi,
In order to assist you, we will need the .DMP files to analyze what exactly occurred at the time of the crash, etc.
If you don't know where .DMP files are located, here's how to get to them:
1. Navigate to the %systemroot%\Minidump folder.
2. Copy any and all DMP files in the Minidump folder to your Desktop and then zip up these files.
3. Upload the zip containing the .DMP files to Onedrive or a hosting site of your choice and paste in your reply. Preferred sites: Onedrive, Mediafire, Dropbox, etc. Nothing with wait-timers, download managers, etc.
4 (optional): The type of .DMP files located in the Minidump folder are known as Small Memory Dumps. In %systemroot% there will be what is known as a Kernel-Dump (if your system is set to generate). It is labeled MEMORY.DMP. The difference
between Small Memory Dumps and Kernel-Dumps in the simplest definition is a Kernel-Dump contains
much more information at the time of the crash, therefore allowing further debugging of your issue. If your upload speed permits it, and you aren't going against any strict bandwidth and/or usage caps, etc, the Kernel-Dump is the best
choice. Do note that Kernel-Dumps are much larger in size due to containing much more info, which is why I mentioned upload speed, etc.
If you are going to use Onedrive but don't know how to upload to it, please visit the following:
Upload photos and files to Onedrive.
After doing that, to learn how to share the link to the file if you are unaware, please visit the following link -
Share files and folders and change permissions and view 'Get a link'.
Please note that any "cleaner" programs such as TuneUpUtilities, CCleaner, etc, by default will delete .DMP files upon use. With this said, if you've run such software, you will need to allow the system to crash once again to generate a crash dump.
If your computer is not generating .DMP files, please do the following:
1. Start > type %systemroot% which should show the Windows folder, click on it. Once inside that folder, ensure there is a Minidump folder created. If not, CTRL-SHIFT-N to make a New Folder and name it Minidump.
2. Windows key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Ensure there's a check-mark for 'Automatically manage paging file size for all
drives'.
3. Windows key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings > System Failure > ensure there is a check mark next to 'Write an event to the system
log'.
Ensure Small Memory Dump is selected and ensure the path is %systemroot%\Minidump.
4. Double check that the WERS is ENABLED:
Start > Search > type services.msc > Under the name tab, find Windows Error Reporting Service > If the status of the service is not Started then right click it and select Start. Also ensure that under Startup Type it is set to Automatic rather than
Manual. You can do this by right clicking it, selecting properties, and under General selecting startup type to 'Automatic', and then click Apply.
If you cannot get into normal mode to do any of this, please do this via Safe Mode.
Regards,
Patrick

  • Windows 7 64 Bit Frequent BSOD

I've been running Windows 7 for awhile now with no problems, but as of two days ago I've started getting frequent BSODs.  It doesn't seem to be giving me the same error every time though, I've gotten anything from System_service_exception to Memory_management to IRQL less or not equal errors.  I hadn't added any new hardware at the time or updated my drivers, so I'm beginning to question whether it's software or hardware related.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
I would like to suggest you update the BIOS and the hardware drivers for Windows 7 first.
If the issue persists, would you please send me more information for analyzing. For your convenience, I have created a workspace for you.  You can upload the information files to the following link.  (Please choose "Send Files to Microsoft")
    Workspace URL: https://sftasia.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=353a5034-ba00-48fc-9263-7f88d34d6e73
    Password: RoNed+-0v29
Note: Due to differences in text formatting with various email clients, the workspace link above may appear to be broken.  Please be sure to include all text between '(' and ')' when typing or copying the workspace link into your browser. Meanwhile, please note that files uploaded for more than 72 hours will be deleted automatically. Please ensure to notify me timely after you have uploaded the files. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Frequent BSODs on new GX740

This is the second GX740 I have had now after returning the first due to a faulty harddrive.
I have been getting frequent BSODs lately, most of them happening when the computer is idling.

      C:\Users\AaronC\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-52073-0.sysdata.xml
Please advise on what is wrong and what I can do to resolve this issue?

Here's what Microsoft says about that error:
This error message can occur if either of the following conditions exists:
        * Your computer has hardware or software problems (hardware failure is the most common cause).
        * You try to over clock the speed of your computer's processor (for example, you set a 150 MhZ processor to run at 187 MhZ).
The above STOP error means a trap occurred in kernel mode and the trap is either one the kernel is not allowed to have or is always fatal. The most common causes of a STOP 0x7F are:
        * Low-level hardware corruption, such as corrupt memory (RAM)
        * Mismatched memory modules
        * A malfunctioning motherboard
To determine an approximate cause, examine the parameters at the top of the STOP screen:
    **STOP 0x0000007F (0x000000XX, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
    UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP
The most important parameter is the first one (0x0000000X) which may have several different values. The cause of this trap can vary, depending on the value of this parameter. All traps that cause a STOP 0x7F can be found in any Intel x86 microprocessor reference manual as they are specific to the x86 platform. Here are some of the most common ones:
     Values       Meaning
       0x00000000   Divide by Zero Error
       0x00000004   Overflow
       0x00000005   Bounds Check Fault
       0x00000006   Invalid Opcode
0x00000008   Double Fault <-- This is the code shown on your BSOD
    Double fault
A double fault occurs when an exception occurs while trying to call the handler for a prior exception. Normally, the two exceptions can be handled serially, however there are several exceptions that cannot be handled serially and in this situation the processor signals a double fault. The two primary causes for this are hardware and kernel stack overflows. Hardware problems are usually related to CPU, RAM, or bus. Kernel stack overflows are almost always caused by faulty kernel-mode drivers.

I'd suggest you test the RAM with >>Memtest86<< first off.

    Yes,
Disconnect everything hooked up to the PC except the keyboard, mouse and monitor.
Then use this method to flash the BIOS.  It is the safest way to go.
USB Device BIOS Flashing in DOS
DOS Flash  (DOSFlash.exe, FlshUefi.cpu) is the DOS-compatible System BIOS flash utility that can be used from a DOS bootable storage device (where "DOS" refers to any of a number of compatible operating systems such as FreeDOS, MS-DOS or DR-DOS). FlshUefi.cpu is the required driver for DOSFlash.exe. To flash the System BIOS from a bootable USB storage device, you will need to copy the contents of the DOS Flash folder to the USB device, boot the PC from the USB device, and execute the DOSFlash application. To see a more complete description of the DOS flash utilities, view DOSFlash.txt located in the DOS Flash folder. This folder also contains the required binary image of the BIOS.  The binary image file is named xxx_MMmm.bin where "xxx" is the BIOS family, "MM" is the major version number, and "mm" is the minor version number.  This file can be copied to the root directory of any USB removable medium for use with the F10 setup "Flash System ROM" option
View Contents of DOS Flash Folder
The links on this post don't work. I copied the section from the BIOS flashing instructions for the specific section you need.

    Hi,
i agree withyou , since the vm behave differently on different PC'S, there what i am looking for WTK Settings for a particular set of devices, let us say, if i want to test the series60 Profiles using WTK , then i have to setup the same enviorment in wtk.
    any ways,
i am trying to integrate the nokai_midp sdk with wtk and trying to profile on different PC's.

  • Confusion re: photostream, import from memory card, events, etc.

confusion re: photostream, import from memory card, events, etc.
Up until a few weeks ago, my travel-photo-handling went like this:
Each night, I download photos to my iPad for safekeeping. They, of course, wind up in Photostream.
When I return home, I connect my camera card to my iMac (where I have my iPhoto library), and I can "see" the photos on my memory card - the photos which, although in Photostream, I have not yet manually downloaded.
    I select and ownload them.
New Events are created in my Library automatically, as I have my preference set to Autosplit Events.
This week, I came home from a trip during which I had downloaded to iPad during my time away.
I connected my memory card to the iMac.
iPhoto did not "see" any photos to import - as far as iPhoto was concerned, those photos were already in my Library.
I had iPhoto show all photos on my card, selected the photos from my trip (I shot over 1000) and clicked "Import Selected"
    iPhoto says they're duplicates.
However, the photos have NOT been downloaded manually and there are NO Events in my Library for those days.
Note: yeah, they're in Photostream, but IN THE PAST - and I mean literally up until 3 weeks ago - the photos have ALWAYS been "visible" and importable even if in Photostream, as long as I had not yet manually downloaded to the computer.
So my question, I guess, is multi-part:
What changed in iPhoto and/or Photostream in the past couple of weeks?
Why are Photostream photos suddenly considered to be the same as the photos on my card which have not yet been manually downloaded to the computer?
What the heck is going on?
I hate having duplicates, but I also hate being confused by something that used to be really easy, then - with Photosream - became annoying, and is now simply perplexing and sometimes imcomprehendable.

Check iPhoto's Photo Stream preference pane to see if the highlighted checkbox in the screenshot below is checked.  If it is then all photos taken by the iPad are automatifdally being imported into your library.
Go the the Events mode and check the View ➙ Sort menu option to verify where new Evens will be located, at the top of the window or the bottom.  Then check to see if your PS pictures are there.
As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Connect your iPad and import all photos.  Dismount the iPad, close and reopen the test library, connect the iPad again and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
If it does'nt then your current library is damaged and needs to be repaired.

  • Memory Mangement BSOD

Hi, this happened to me while play a game. This is a custom built PC running windows 8.1.
My memory is kingston hyperxFury red 1866 mhz and motherboard is MSI Z97 Gaming 3.
Here is the link to the .dmp file I got - https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=1D469934B21D4C9F%21200
I ran windows memory diagnostic and received no problems, but after running memtest I received 6 errors after a few minutes. I tried downclocking the RAM to 1600 mhz and haven't received an error since. Any help is appreciated thanks.

Good to hear, sounds like your RAM just couldn't run at those speeds.

  • HP P6720F - Ram problem with frequent BSOD's but it gets worse ...

I have a weird problem that has been made worse.  Frequent and random BSOD's caused me to isolate the ram as the problem and the motherboard as the likely culprit.  I suspect it is still a software related problem in some way on the chipset and iin conflict with software.
    Two part problem:
    1.  I can only use one channel of Dimm ram (slot 2 and slot 4).  The other channel does not work.  Slot 4 seems to be the most stable and all ram sticks check out OK in slot 4.
I was working through this problem trying to find a solution and I found a recommendation to update the bios.  I checked and my bios was an old version.
...and this is where problem two comes in.
    2.  I attempted to download the new bios from your link.
Half way through the download, ...the computer crashed (BSOD).  I have tried to restart the computer but it acts dead.  I have had this problem before and was able to eventually get it restarted even after looking totally dead (frequent and persistent restarts will eventually get it restarted) but this time I was downloading a new bios.
Under the circumstances, ...is it worth trying to get it to restart or is this computer dead?

    Jeb, welcome to the forum.
If the BIOS was simply downloading, the crash should not have hurt it.  I suggest clearing the CMOS.  The instructions are near the bottom of the page.  Let me know what happens.

    Hi,
I've analyzed the latest dump files, and all indicate a Appfilt.sys error.
Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.

Appfilt.sys  (Application Name Filter Plugin) might be related with Third-Party Application, such as programs developed by Citrix Systems, do you have such kind of programs installed, uninstall and reinstall it, check if issue persists.
Virus or malware infection can also corrupted the appfilt.sys file or related Third-Party Application program files, so it's also recommended to perform a virus scan.
Make sure to install latest version for drivers, if you have recently changed some hardware or software configuration, make sure that your configuration is correct.

  • Frequent kernel panic due to memory upgrade?

My 3.5 year-old MacBook Pro started to have increasingly frequent kernel panics a while ago, sometimes even several times per week. The Apple Store said it must be connected to the memory upgrade (from 2 to 4 GB). However, having the modules replaced with new Samsung ones provided little relief. Could both memory upgrades have compatibility issues or is something wrong with the mainboard? Right now, I am mostly running Win 7 in Bootcamp. The cursor will just freeze following an action such as trying to open a web site or formatting a row in Excel.
BTW, the most battery life the machine ever  gave me was two and a half hours, regardless of whether I was running Snow Leopard (with Parallels) or Windows.
    Thanks!
    Kind regards,
    Hans Christian, Oldenburg, Germany

well... the first time i got the kernel panic. it was text overlay on my screensaver that was running. The second time the computer just froze. I wonder though if the kernel panic would have eventually happened.
i keep noticing now that this iChat Agent slowly creeps up during the day to about 2GB Real Memory and 2.4 Virtual Memory. is this normal or causing the freeze??

  • Frequents bsod after pci vid card installed

    hey all,
ive explained this 20 times on 20 different tech forums and no one could help, hope you msi junkies can
    heres the deal.
    system specs
    amd duron 1.1
MS-6378 mobo with onboard sound and vid
XP Home SP1 and XP Pro (no sp)
the mobo in my wifes pc has no agp slots, and has 4 or 8 megs of onboard video. she constantly comandeers my pc while im working to get in a game or two, so i finnaly decided to pick her up a pci video card the other night.
    got it at walmart, 30 bucks for a gforce2 mx200 w/32 PCI
installed it and it ran fine, she was happy, and i was happy lol, now this error started only with divx and now happens more frequently. after playing a divx movie for any length of time, it has happened after 2 minutes, and after 30 , i get an irq_not_less_or_equal_to bsod from win32k.sys. at first this was only with divx movies, but now it happens randomly, just happened 5 minutes ago when i was writing this thread hehe , i updated the bios, and took a look inside...im assuming this could be due to the onboard video maybe, but there are no settings to flat out disable it. i disabled video bios shadowing, set the agp arpeture(? SP) to 4mb(min) told the bios not to reserve an irq for video, disabled the onboard video driver through the windows. i wish i could just uninstall the driver for it, but whenever i do windows thinks its great to reinstall it to make my life easier :p
any help would be appriticated, im just going to lurk around the forums all day

  • 2011 13 MPB - Frequent BSOD & Kernel Panics - seeking advice

All, I have been having similar issues with my 13 inch MBP.  I've had it for a couple weeks now.  Ive had an original aluminum Macbook for the past two years and had not one issue with it.  In fact, I was a BSOD virgin and didnt even have any idea what it was when it initially happened on my new MBP.
Anyway, I've now had 8 BSODs and Im looking for ideas on what might be causing it.  Let me go through it.
To start, I did a TimeMachine backup of all the data from old MB.
When turning on my new MPB for the first time, I chose the option to restore everything.  (first off, could this be the cause?)
I let TM do it's thing, and the new MBP booted up no issues, everything looked the same, no errors, all is good right?!?
I then added the 8GB of RAM to the new MBP.  I added this - Mushkin Enhanced 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Memory (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226167).  Granted, I know that this memory doesnt specifically say it is for my model MBP, but it specs out the same.  I have run both the short and in-depth Apple Hardware Tests and no errors were found.  And the BSODs have been happening both with the original memory and the new so I do not think it is the memory (is there anyway to tell for certain though?!?)
I've also read a separate forums stating that USB tethering is causing ALOT of people BSODs and that booting into 32bit instead of 64bit seems to help. (here for more)  I dont tehter anything via usb.  I have one USB peripheral and thats my TM drive.  So I'm not sure this applies to me, but might help others.
Another forum I read suggests that there is something specifically new on the install DVDs with the new MBPs and that TM backups from previous versions is not a good idea.  I cannot locate the forum at the moment, but I have the quote from it "You're getting a kernel panic because you installed Snow Leopard via the retail disk. Make sure you use the disk provided in the box. These 2011 MBP's require a special, newer build of SL."  (does anyone know if this even true?!?)
    Other than that, I've
kept up wth and installed all the software updates available so far (Safari, Itunes, iPhone, etc.)
    reset the PRAM
    reset the SMC
I do have a Win7 VMware session which I have been able to use without error.
A friend of mine said his last TWO 17 MBPs had similar issues on launch and it took an Apple update to correct the issue but I dont have the details on that.

I apologize for the long post, but Im looking for help and hopfully this will help others.  My next step is to return this.  I am quite disappointed so far considering I hadn't experienced any issues with my previous MB.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Frequent crashes - using 900,00k + memory, many tabs open - is memory usage an issue?

I am having frequent crashing of firefox, several times a day.
I do have many tabs open, 100+, and memory usage is around 900,000 and up.
I am wondering if the memory usage is causing the crashing, or something else I can fix?
My task manager says I am using 67% of available memory.

These crash reports can be hard to interpret, but at least the six from 9/16 seem to be "out of memory" (OOM) errors. Assuming that is the case, the question is what might be done about that.
This support article has a range of suggestions, including not having more than 100 tabs open and possibly useful add-ons. [[Firefox uses too much memory (RAM) - How to fix]]. In a bug report, I also saw an extension that displays the usage on the add-on bar, which might help in keeping an eye on it.
I noticed you have several dom.ipc.plugins.* preferences set to False, which may force some plugins to run in firefox.exe rather than plugin-container.exe. The design of the process isolation feature is that plugin crashes will take down plugin-container.exe rather than firefox.exe. It may also be that overriding process isolation is ballooning the memory usage by firefox.exe rather than more evenly distributing it between the two processes. You may want to restore those settings to their defaults and see whether that helps.
Finally, to reduce the size of your sessionrestore.js file you could omit personal data (e.g., cookies, form data), but this will make it a bit harder after a crash to get back to where you were.
