Frequent Resetting the Nano 5th Generation

I have only had this Nano for a couple of days. In that short time i have had to perfrom a reset several times. My normal method of switching the device off when i've finished, is to press and hold the Play/Pause button as suggested.
However, when i try and swtich on later, it fails to respond.
Does anyone know if this is a common problem with the 5th Generation Nano, or just mine?
DJT

It should not be that way.
Try restoring the software via iTunes, if that does not improve it then return it to Apple for a replacement.

is there a difference (besides color) between the nano 5th generation (silver, black, purple, pink, etc) and the red 5th generation special edition?

There is not difference in fetures if that's what you are asking. But it does go to a good cause.

  • IPod Nano 5th generation cannot connect to the computer

My Nano 5th generation cannot connect to my computer when the device is connected to a USB cord. I have an existing library which I have synced to numerous times but all of a sudden, the iPod does not connect using the USB cord. I've tried changing ports on the computer but to no avail. I share the computer with another user who has a totally different library (their's is an iPod Touch) and there is no problem connecting this iPod Touch to the computer and iTunes library. I cannot figure out why the Nano 5th generation is not connecting by way of the USB cord. Somebody please help me

Have you tried plugging the iPod into a different USB port? Sometimes this can fix the problem of a device not being seen by a computer.
And i share you a column about [iPod Transfer|http://www.softwarebbs.com/wiki/IPod_Transfer]. This has worked perfectly for me everytime I've tried it.
Hope it can do you a favor.

    Howdy Lumagofe,
I was thinking that you may need to reset the iPod Nano, outlined here How to reset iPod http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and Volume Down button simultaneously for at least eight seconds or until the Apple logo appears. You may need to repeat this step.
If the above step did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power.
If that doesn't quite get the iPod going again, then it will need to be restored. Use this article to help with that Restoring iPod to factory settings http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1339.
    All the very best,

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?

Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • I use an iPod nano 5th generation. I have had it for 2 years now and then after about a year when I plugged in my iPod to my computer, the iPod is read but the tab where I would always go that showed my list of artists to sync to my iPod does not show up

I use an iPod nano 5th generation. I have had it for about two years now and after about one year, I plugged in my iPod into my computer to sync more music. Here is the problem: The tab where you go to sync music to your iPod and shows the list of artists and songs you want to sync to the iPod, the tab I can get to but the list of songs and artists does not show up and the only way I can sync music to my iPod is to basically wipe my iPod and start from scratch. Obviously, I do not want to do that because I do not have all the songs in my library that I have on my iPod. I have uninstalled iTunes and then re-installed it, but it did not work and I do not know what else to do. I would really appreciate helpful guidance to get it fixed if it can be fixed. Thanks in advance

  • My Ipod Nano 5th generation is not being detected by Widows and Itunes. I have tried everything based on the trouble shooting tips outlined. Has anyone had this situation before? How was it resolved. My Ipod is just out of warrenty

Have done all trouble shooting tech a through Apples and still have not resolved issues on Windows and itunes not detecting my Ipod  nano 5th generation device. Tried restoring the device manually using disk mode and still not being detected by the computer. Device is our of warenty as when service repair charges are $125.00 dolars more than I paid for this device. There must be some way to restore the entire device to factor settings without having to be connected to itunes and Windows. I wish I could connect but again device is not being read. I have another Ipod that is 8GB instaed of 16GB and it works fine. The sad thing about this situation is that my 9year old daughter worked hard doing delivering fliers for a long time to save her money to buy this 16 GB 5th generation Nano. Otherwise the Ipod works well but will not syncronize songs as it is not being detected. Maybe this is a result of corrupt files that got onto my daughters Ipod somehow and thus causing it not the be detwected through the USB connection thus as a result not be understoud as a working device through Windows and itunes. If anyone can help me out there including itune techs that would be well appreciated, but for now my daughter is not able to add new or delete any songs on her ipod as well pictures, and everything. Thanks

Try changing the cord. I could NOT get my computer to recognize my iPod 5th Gen until I read somewhere that different apple devices use different cords. I was inadvertently using my iPad cord and that caused my computer to not recognize my ipod.

  • Ipod nano (5th generation) - want to use headphones and charge at the same time

I have an ipod nano (5th generation).  Do I need a special set of headphones to use the headphone jack and charge the ipod at the same time?

The iPod nanos have a 30 pin dock connector and a headphone jack. When you charge the iPod you use the dock connector therefore you can use and charge at the same time. You cannot use and charge the iPod shuffle at the same time. You might have the two mixed up.

  • HT1320 I tried all the steps to reset my nano 6th generation and it still won't turn on. What do I do then?

I tried all the steps to reset my nano 6th generation and it still won't turn on. I've had this since February and just started having problems about a week ago after I charged it. Now I can sometimes get it to turn on but mostly it just stays off, I can't even reset it with it plugged in. I have noticed that it get really warm to the touch when it's plugged in and if I let it cool down I might have some luck but soon I have the same problems.

  • Do we have any scheme to replace nano 5th generation to the new 6th generation

do we have any scheme to replace nano 5th generation to the new 6th generation

No.  You can trade in your current 5G Nano for a 10% discount towards the purchase of a new iPod at your local Apple store.  However, you would be much better off selling the iPod on eBay or Craigslist and using the proceeds from that to pay for a newer model.
