FTDI VCP driver NI-DAQmx driver problem...

Hi,
I am making use of FTDI VCP driver on Windows XP to talk to a FT245R device (through USB interface).
I also make use of NI USB-6251card to capture signal data [pulse wave form] and make use of NI-DAQmx driver S/W to talk to the device connected to the NI card.
I observed that when there's no read/write happening on the FTDI VCP driver,  DAQmxReadAnalogF64() returns the right data. But where there's a read/write happening on the FTDI VCP driver,  DAQmxReadAnalogF64 returns corrupt data.
This happens even if the read/writes to FTDI VCP driver and the  DAQmxReadAnalogF64 to the NI-DAQmx driver are in two different processes.
Could you please let me know if there's any workaround?
Thanks a lot!
-Abraham

Hi Ali,
Thanks for your response.
By Corrupt data, I mean wrong data points. So if I request 100 data point, I will get the data count as 100, but the values are junk values.
I took your suggestion:
I selected the test panels and aquired samples. When the FTDI VCP driver was not being exercies, I can see the correct wavefor [regular bi-phasic pulse] in the amplitude vs samples graph. But when there's activity on the FTDI VCP driver (read/write), then the graph shows junk waveform (most of it is close to zero).
The Systems is a dual-core CPU.
Initially we though it was due to CPU bandwidth, but looks like CPU is used some 60%.
A collegue of mine suggested that it could be that when both the USB [NI and FTDI] draw power at the same time, we could get junk values.
I also tried a USB hub and did not see any change - same bad values.
I really appreciate your response.
Thanks!
-Abraham

    Hello,
Thanks for your reply.I will try to answer your questions.
I have checked the Device Mananger and I have seen that the device is detected by Windows  XP.  For another question the card shows up under both NI-DAQmx Devices and Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy) Devices consistently in the Measurement & Automation Explorer.I use a way that I reset the driver for traditional NI-DAQ in MAX,and then i reset the device for NI-DAQmx driver in MAX and again i tried to run the test panel of DAQmx driver but again i saw a wrong signal or noise signal on the test panel i could not see the sinusoidal signal that i connected. i do get the test panels to run with the card using the DAQmx driver,  But could not run the DAQ diagnostic utility. The error was as i specified below.

  • Mydaq required daqmx driver

    Hello,
I have problem with my system to make it recognize the NI mydaq device.
I have the newest DAQmx driver, version 9.7.0.
When I run the Trubleshooting utility, I get this error msg:
Using DAQmx Driver Version 9.7.0 . Please upgrade to version 9.1.1 or higher before using the myDAQ device. (Critical Failure)"
This look stupid, why the NI MyDAQ cannot cooperate with the newest DAQmx driver?? Do I have to upgrade my DAQmx driver to 9.1.1. ??? But I need the newest driver for my LabView projects, so this looks to be a dead-end...?
Any advice how to solve this problem?
    Thanks!

Strange enough, but the NI MyDAQ started to work. I can use the features of the ELVIS Instrument Launcher too (scope, DMM, etc.).
What is more strange, the Troubleshoting utility is still telling me that non-sense error message about problematic DAQmx driver version...

    Bonjour,

  • DAQmx driver for DAQ 6009? Need DAQ Assistant in Block Panel palette.

Do I understand things right?  The Ni USB DAQ 6009 is supported in DAQmx base and not DAQmx, or is this only true for the 6008? I need the DAQ Assistant in my LV 2009 Block Panel palette.  Do I go to my Ni-DAQmx 8.8 CDs, or do I download something.  Maybe I have the DAQmx base already?  I'm going to search my palette and NI Max.  I am also going to look at http://www.ni.com/support/daq/version_portable.htm#du.   If I'm going about this all wrong, please help.
    Thanks
    Norm

    Hi Dennis
My DAQmx Cds are 8.8.  I don't  have a selection for the DAQ Assistant on my block panel palette, so I'm looking to get an update for my DAQmx driver for my USB 6009 DAQ that I'll be using with my  student software for LabVIEW 2009 version 9.0.  I've looked at a NI document "NI-DAQmx and NI-DAQ Driver Support: Portable Devices"  that was published on Jan 17, 2013.  It says for Windows 7 I should be using 9.6mx, but this document make no reference to a version of LabVIEW.  The date of the document is 1/17/13; maybe it is refering to  only to version LabVIEW 2013.  Can you help?
From what I've read I believe I need to use DAQmx and not DAQmx base, but I can't help wondering if the DAQmx base has something to do with the "NI DAQmx Device Basics" that I see on the right side of the screen when I'm in NI MAX getting ready to run the test panels.    ?????
    Thank you for your time

  • Creating an application which uses NI-Daqmx driver

    Hello,
I'm developing an application which uses NI-Daqmx driver and I need to deliver this application to end users.
I currently have NI-DAQmx 9.7.0 installed on my computer which needed an installation of 1.55 GB.
I got complaints from customers who want this application to run on a new machine without the need of installation of NI-DAQmx driver.
My project contains the necessary dlls (NationalInstruments.Common.dll and NationalInstruments.DAQmx.dll) as referenced and I expect that build of the application along with these dlls work on a different machine somehow.
Is there any way to provide such output that customers don't need to install NI-DAQmx?
Do I have to add additional references to the project? If so, which ones should they be?
Or can I have a smaller custom required installation of this driver which will not bother the customers?
PS: I tried the output of the sample projects on a different machine which don't have NI-DAQmx installed. I got the same error.
    Thanks in advance.

    Greetings,
You can have them install the DAQmx runtime engine which correlates with the version of DAQmx which is being used in the program you're distributing. This can be found on our website.
Search "daqmx runtime engine x.x" and replace the x.x with your version number.

  • How to install the NI-DAQmx driver on a real time target PC?

Hi, I’m painful about how I can install a PCI-6363 DAQmx on my real time desktop PC target. The PCI-6363 is directly connected to the real time PC. And I’m using LabVIEW 2011 and MAX 5.0.
The DAQmx device driver can be seen in software lIst in the host PC, but it can not be found in the install wizard. Is there something wrong with my host PC? or is that wrong to connect PCI-6363 with real time desktop PC?
I would be grateful for any advice that I could get here.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Zhleo,
If you are about to use the PCI-6363 with the Real-Time Desktop you are right you need to have it installed, and then you need to deploy DAQmx driver software to the real-time target.
To do that you access your real-time desktop under Remote Systems in MAX and start the Real-Time Software Wizard. There you should see DAQmx listed.
In case you do not have DAQmx listed there, see this KB: Deploying DAQmx to a Real-Time Controller or PC?

  • Drive has a hardware problem that can't be repaired?

I have had a Lacie 1TB 7200RPM external drive for about  3 years now. In the last two days I got this message when I went into disk utility. "drive has a hardware problem that can't be repaired". I was able to back up all the info off of the drive.
Is this a drive problem or a hardware problem. I am using esata and an esata card. Not sure what the card is.
    Any diagnostics.
I ran a verify and repair permissions and was told the drive is OK.

    Do this:
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.

  • This drive has a hardware problem that can't be repaired

Hello all! I'm using a late 2009 27" iMac (2.8 GHz, 12 GB Ram).  I've been noticing a lot of insanely slow speed lately, mostly in opening new folders or restarting. I ran the Disk Utility and it maked my internal 1TB drive as "This drive has a hardware problem that can't be repaired". Thankfully I have a 2tb backup external that has all my data on it, but now it's time to decide what to do.
    1. Try and reformat my hard drive and reinstall the backup
    2. Replace the drive with a new internal drive (and look for the best solution... thinking either a hybrid drive, SSD+internal or a 7200 RPM drive)
    3. Throw my iMac into the sea.
    4. Cry
    So basically my question is:
Is my drive dead and should i even try to help it? (I don't qualitfy for the TB repair from Apple and my Applecare is up)
What are the best performance upgrades for an internal. 7200 internal? 7200 Hybrid? both an SSD and an internal drive?
    Thank you in advance.

You will have to see what the SMART report is for the drive in Disk Utility. If it says "Verified" then the drive should be OK. All you need do is repartition and reformat the drive. On the other hand if DU reports the drive has an I/O problem then the drive is probably bad.
Initially why not just try this:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    7. Quit DU when formatting has completed. Install Snow Leopard.

  • New iMac 750 GB Hard Drive Fail Smart Drive Test - Glitch or Problem

    Greetings!
I have a new 24" imac with 750 GB hard drive which has had problems out of the box (system crashing several times a day/unable to re-start/application crashes/general sluggishness).
Five re-installs of Leopard (upgrade/clean install/install and erase)in five weeks when I finally used the latest version of Drive Genius and TechTool Pro (4.6.1). Both claimed hard drive problems. Specifically, TechTool Pro reported smart drive failure (see report below, please).
This seemed to confirm my suspicions that something was flawed with my iMac from the start.
I have returned the computer for a new hard drive.
The Apple-approved repair shop says they've installed a new 750 GB had drive sent by Apple and when they run TechTool Pro, they get the same smart drive failure report. The techie claims this is either a glitch with TechTool Pro, or with the hard drive, but that I have nothing to worry about.
    What's your opinion?
Many thanks for taking the time to read this.

    Greetings, all!
This has been my first posting, despite having owned 5 Macs over twelve years - which goes to show you how reliable they are, most of the time.
I am very impressed with the thoughtful responses, and I really, really appreciate you taking the time to respond.
Here's an update since my last posting. I picked up my repaired(?) iMac from the Apple-approved repair shop. The technician's report said (referring to the original hard drive Seagate ST3750640AS Q) "The drive has passed and boots into the OS without issue. Confirmed the smart status of the hard drive shows failed, but this is for an unknown attribute. This may not really indicate the drive is failing, but could be a possibility. Since all of the other tests have passed, I feel it is best to replace the drive under warranty for the customer.
About the new hard drive, the technician wrote: I have run a third-party smart utility on the (new, replaced) hard drive again and I have found that it is failing with the same error. The Apple test shows the smart status as OK.
I have researched this error and I have found that this attribute appears to be for temperature. Since both drives showed the exact same error, this attribute can be safely ignored for smart status. I was not able to replicate any issues with this machine other than the smart status failure so I do not think there is any other hardware failing in this machine.
If the customer continues to have issues, I would recommend reinstalling the OS one more time. If the issue still persists after this, then the customer should bring in the computer when issues are still happening so we can try to determine the cause of the problem better.
At first, my iMac was performing much better, but as I began to migrate data from back-up, I was not able to connect/re-establish my iphoto library, or re-establish my Apple mail accounts( both of which I have done countless times in the past without hassle).
I decided to run Apple's Disk utility which reports it cannot repair the new drive.
Just prior to my original posting, I had sent a copy of my posting to Micromat (TechTool Pro) asking for their opinion/advice.
Their response was: The SMART routines are built into the hard drive by the drive manufacturer. They are proprietary and different for each drive manufacturer. TechTool Pro just reads the status of the built-in SMART parameters and reports their status. Basically, a threshold exceeded indicates that the drive has exceeded what the manufacturer thinks are proper operating parameters for it and it may be getting close to failing. For an interpretation of the seriousness of a specific attribute failure you would need to contact the drive manufacturer. A failure is a warning to be sure to keep good backups and consider replacing the drive. If you get a SMART failure on a drive that is under warranty, the drive manufacturer will typically replace the drive.
Following are two links that might be of interest:
    http://www.ariolic.com/activesmart/docs/glossary.html
    http://www.ariolic.com/activesmart/docs/smart-attribute-meaning.html
I also took your (Looby) advice and called Seagate. (I also visited their web site, which recommends replacement of their hard drive under these circumstances!)
Within a couple of minutes, the tech person agreed that this is a serious concern and I should replace the drive.
Regarding Wiil's post, Apple's Disk utility says: smart status verified.
The SmartReporter utility reports the smart status is OK.
The SmartUtility application says:smart status failed. ID: #190 Unknown attribute.
For all other posters, this was not a New Egg purchase, which was not relevant to my post. Thank you just the same.
I've left a message for the Apple-approved store and will ask for another drive, and that, if possible, it be tested before I bring my iMac in to reduce the inconvenience.
I'm also wondering if I should switch to a 500 GB hard drive, although that would defeat the purpose of buying the larger drive for all the video I work with ( I have another 2 Terabytes storage with external drives).
Any further comments welcome - and thank you all again for taking the time!

  • External USB Drive (MAC OS Extended) Problem

I had an NTFS formatted external USB2 drive which I have been trying to format as a MAC OS Extended (journaled) drive to use with my iMac. After partitoning it with disk utility using the MAC OS Extended partition scheme the drive will not mount and attempting to run first aid on it results in an unspecific error message.
I even went as far as zeroing the drive to see if it would mount. No go. If I format it (using disk utitlity) as a FAT32 drive the drive mounts without a problem. The drive also mounts without a problem on a PC.
I'd appreciate if someone could explain why formatting the drive with as a MAC OS Extended partition makes the drive unmountable and if there is a fix for it.
    Thanks

I don't want to use this as a drive on both a PC and a Mac, just the Mac. If if leave it as a FAT32 the Mac can use it however the file sizes are limited to 4GB which is not good. I have some files from iMovie and QT that need to be stored and which I don't want to have to break up in order to put them on the drive.
I'm still surprised that the the process of converting a PC drive to a Mac drive is not easier. Especially since more people are starting to move to Macs.

  • I replaced my hard drive and used time machine to boot from but it installedthe unrepaired disk permissions of the faulty previous drive would this cause problems on my new drive?

I replaced my hard drive on macbook pro and used time machine to boot from but it also installed the unrepaired disk permmissions of the other drive, would this cause problems to my new drive?

Can you remember what the permissions problem was that you had before? You may need to reinstall OS X from scratch and not reinstall anything from your Time Machine backups. To be on the safe side you should reinstall all third-party applications from scratch, as well. Then only restore from your backup your document/data files.

  • New hard drive and photoshop license problem

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 with a 1.5 Ghz Pentium processor, 2 GB of RAM, and Win Xp/Pro SP3.
The hard drive in this computer failed, and it has been replaced.  I used an image backup from Acronis True Image 10 to "restore" the new disk.
Now, when I try to open Phostoshop CS2, I receive a message that the license is no longer valid (I have been using this version of Photoshop for a long time).
    I don't have this problem with InDesign CS3 (v. 5.0.2), FrameMaker 7.2b144, or Acrobat 8.1.6.
I didn't find any helpful info on the "Product Activation" web page.
I tried a forum search and a search of Adobe.com using the search criteria "new hard drive and photoshop license problem."
The only relevant item I could find is this:
"Backup and restoration of your system using standard tools do not require reactivation. While reactivation after backing up or restoring the system was required in early versions of Adobe software (such as Adobe Photoshop® CS), Adobe has continued to improve the activation process with new technology that eliminates the need to reactivate after system restoration. In complex situations where the system is being upgraded, we recommend deactivating the Adobe software before commencing the system upgrade. Once the system upgrade is completed, the subsequent install/restore will require reactivation, which is typically accomplished without difficulty and is completely transparent to the user."
So does that mean I have to "reactivate" Photoshop CS2?  If so, do I use the Activation window that is displayed when I open Photoshop?  The serial number has 20 characters.  Will the Adobe (re)activation recognize this old serial number?  If not, what do I have to do to get this product usable again?
    Please help.

    >replaced your hard drive and CS2 DRM is looking for the old hard drive number and not finding it
Interesting... I use http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm which creates a bootable CD and runs outside of Windoze
I have made image files and loaded those files to a new hard drive (I use drive swap hardware to make a backup and create a new drive every time I install or uninstall major software) and have never had any program complain about needing activation
But, since the program I use is Linux on a bootable CD, it copies EVERYTHING on a hard drive, even the hidden registration areas as far as I can tell, so when I do a restore to a new drive, everything is put on the new drive
