FTP problem: empty file being picked up

Use case:
- I am writing a file with the FTP adapter to a remove FTP server
- Another application polls the folder where I put my file
- The application picks up the file and processes it
Problem
- The moment that the FTP adapter starts writing, the other application recognizes the (empty) file and picks it up
- The application processes only the empty file
Questions
- Is there a way to block the other application from picking up the file?
- What is a best practice for this situation?
- Is there a way to implement some type of handshake?
- Will I also have this problem when another application writes a file to a folder where a BPEL file/ftp adapter is polling?
Thanks,
Jan Willem

Another common practice is to give the file an extra extension while ftp upload is in progress:
upload.xml.tmp
Then after the upload finishes it should be renamed.
And another (!) practice is to upload two files:
upload.xml
upload.upl
upload.upl only contains the filename of upload.xml, have upload.upl only uploaded when upload.xml is finished. let your adapter poll for upl files instead of xml files, and read out the contents of the upl file.

  • FTPS: Writing empty files

    Hi Gurus,
I have PROXY -> XI -> File scenario and we have to use FTPS to secure the connection.
I have done the following steps -
    1. Imported the public key certificate from 3rd party FTP server into the Trusted CA section of the Keystore in visual Admin. The CN name in the certificate is same as the server name maintained in communication channel.
    2. In File receiver Comm channel -
          a. I have selected the connection security as FTPS for control and data connection.
          b. command order is default command order.
c.. Use X.509 certificate is unticked and no certificate is selected.
          d. A valid user name and password entered in comm channel. (the password is correctly entered)
          e. Target directory maintained as /xxx/xxx (which is the default directory of the user)
    3. The third party server can do FTPS as I am successfully able to connect and transfer files to the directory on that server using File-Zilla tool. When I try and connect using FTPS using File-Zilla, it prompts me for the certificate and once I accept the certificate, I can see the files in the folder. I used the same user id and password in FileZilla that I have used in comm. Channel.
When I run the scenario (we have PI7.0), its writing empty files in the folder on the target server. When checked in RWB its throwing error - Error occurred while connecting to the FTP server "xxxx.xxxx.com:21": iaik.security.ssl.SSLCertificateException: Peer certificate rejected by ChainVerifier.
If I change the target directory from the /xxx/xxx to '/' (without quotes) then no file is written and I get error - An error occurred while connecting to the FTP server 'xxx.xxx.com:21'. The FTP server returned the following error message: 'com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 553 Could not create file.'. For details, contact your FTP server vendor.
The permissions for the folder are 777 and the file name is as simple as abc.xml.
My contact on the target server is not able to help either as I am able to connect to his server using FTPS.
Not sure whats going wrong. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Rahul.

    Hi Rahul,
Try selecting the keystore and X.509 certificate that you loaded in VA, in the communication channel.
I think you need to specify this certificate in communication channel for verification.
Also please check Q24 of Note 821267 - FAQ: XI 3.0 / PI 7.0/ PI 7.1 File Adapter (I think you loaded the certificate to trustedCA as described in this note)
if didnt work check your command order AUTH TSL,USER,PASS,PBSZ,PROT
have look into this thread as well Re: FTP/SSL Connection Problem for FTP Receiver Adapter

  • Limiting the number of files being picked up by the sender file adapter

We are running a file adapter to collect xml files from a legacy system in a shared network location.  The files are picked up, information is sorted and mapped, and then sent to a proxy on our CRM system to store the data.  Very simple and not-complex.
Our initial data load will consist of somewhere in the neighborhood of 900k records, which is killing CRM.
A co-worker with a bit more experience was telling me that he believes there is a way to limit the number of files that will be pulled per iteration of the file communication channel.  If this is the case, can someone share with me the parameters that need to be set?
My apologies if this is a duplicate post - I have tried to look for a good answer in the forums and have come up empty.
We are running PI 7.1, and I believe it is SP 6.
Thanks in advance for the help,
    Ben

    Hi Ben,
There is no standard way to limit the number of files to be processed by the communication channel.
On the Sender File CC, there is a parameter " Maximum File Size" which restricts the files bigger than the specific size, but this is just a prevention not a solution.
If you have a single big size file, then somehow you have to create small sized files out of it.

  • Thunderbird sending pdf attachment problem – 'empty file' from mac to mac & PC

    OSX 10.9.5 with TB 31.6
This problem has just started happening when sending PDFs to clients at different location who are using a mixture of email systems on Mac and PCs (different PDFs over the last week to differetent people but not everyone). The file arrives but it says 'empty file'. I have tried sending the same PDF though gmail and that arrives with no problem.
I can see this is a reoccuring problem with older TB releases but there doesn't seem to be a solution.
    Can anyone help?
    best
    Martin

I've now asked 2 people who have received PDFs either as "message saying that they are corrupted" ...
"Hi Martin. Many thanks - the files sent via MailBigFile have all opened up OK. I deliberately use a Mac to try and avoid viruses! No one else in the
factory could open them either. Kind regards, Nicky."
    and
"I haven’t got anti-virus software. The third one you sent was openable (the one from from gmail). – Tim" ... this one said "empty file" also on a Mac.

  • File Sender : Multiple File being picked

    Hi All
I have a scenario where I have multiple files in a directory . I have set the option to Processing Parameters to be EOIO and poll interval to be 60 seconds.
The processing sequence is by Name.
This File sender triggers a BPM. What I see is that when the File sender polls the directory. If ther are  multiple files, they get picked up at the same time and as many BPM are started.
I would like it to work pretty much in a serial format where it picks up only one file triggers the BPM. When the BPM is done it can trigger the next file.
How can I do this ??
    Regards
    Aju Paul

    Hi Aju,
I have come across such scenarios...but not ones wer you have files wid same names in the same path wid almost same time stamps:)...well, d time stamp format can be specified upto milli seconds!...
Will you be able to give some kind of an "advanced selection for the source file"-this option is available in the ftp adapter..here's the link to the documentation(just in case u haven't come across it earlier):-

  • EX CAM metadata problem ? Files being lost

    Hi all,
I am not a particularly experienced editor but i have been using PP CS5 for the last few months to edit some EX CAM (EX) files that i shot on an EX3.
The strange thing is...though everything has being going fine up to now...in the last couple of days...PP CS5 has started losing track of some of my EX CAM clip files. For example, I have a 1 hour 20min file that i have been working with (not very intensively...just doing some titling and so forth)...it was shot in an EX3 and the mp4 files spanned across two cards when it was shot. Up to now...dragging in the first "EX clip" in the series has predictably also brought in all the other "clips" and the whole file has played seamlessly as one file and in the right order. But now, when i save and shut down my PC, the next day when i start up the project, the file has diagonal gray bars across portions of it in the sequence timeline and  PP seems unable to find those clip portions of the file. Down the bottom of the PP screen I get the little yellow progress bar graph saying "CONFORMING mp4"...But after it finishes this process, it still fails to find the missing parts of the EX clip.
Some times it even starts to get confused and gets the clips in the wrong order (eg clip section 6 appears as section 1).
It seems to me that PP is either not reading the metadata correctly, or the EX metadata has been corrupted. I have checked the BPAV folders and everything seems there (though i didn't open up the CUE files). I also checked the mp4's and all the raw mp4 clips are there and playable.
Can anyone tell me what is happening ? If this continues, my whole project will be screwed....i have thousands of EX clips and it would take months to drag them all into the project and order them manually.
The drive that the files are on is a Western Digital Black Caviar and it is not a networked drive. I am doing very lightweight editing with very few effects and there have been no performance issues with the system (no drive speed issues, no RAM issues, no video card issues so far). I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit and I should mention i am running the accelerated GPU workaround "hack" with an Asus EN-GTX260 1GigDDR5
    Cheers,
    Pete

    Hi,
My problem is solved...thought i would post the simple fix.
All i had to do was start a completely fresh project, import the same problematic EX3 assets into that new project (via Import command) and then drag that clip into the timeline and instantly all EX clip links were restored ...and here's the weird part, they were restored not just in the new project but in ALL other projects that used those EX3 assets. ie. by doing this, my original project was also repaired. Don't ask me why...I'm just happy.
There is another thread on the same topic overe here ( http://forums.adobe.com/message/3362918#3362918 ) if anyone is still having problems.

  • Approx 700 Files being deleted from file server (server 2003) without permission

    Hello,
We had a problem with files being deleted from our file server.
We lost approx. 700 files across approx. 40 directories from the file date codes between Nov. 30 2014 and Dec 3, 2014. All files before this date were not touch.
Our Dec. 1 backup had all of the files. Our Dec. 5 backup only have files before Sept. 1 2014 and after Dec. 3, 2014.
My question is how can this happen without going to each directory and sorted my date cade and delecting files from this date range.
Does anyone have any other ideals on how this could of happen?
    Thank You

  • Large files not being picked by FTP adapter

    Hello,
In our integration scenario, files from the AS400 (legacy system) are placed at a FTP location from where the XI picks up the file for processing. We have FTP communication channel.
The file has about 8000 records is in binary format. When the file was placed it was not being picked up after the mentioned polling period of 60 secs. After manually inserting about 300 records which makes the file size smaller, the file is picked up bu XI and processed without error. With the 8000 records the file size was 2.5 MB.
    Thank you

Please provide a J2EE trace at logging severity "Debug" for the location
    "com.sap.aii.adapter.file". Please do the following:
    - increase logging severity to "Debug"
    - set log levels to ERROR for all components
    - ONLY set log level to DEBUG for "com.sap.aii.adapter.file"
    - reproduce the problem and gather the defaultTrace.trc immediately
      after you reproduce
    - remember to reset the logging severity after you have reproduced as
leaving it on "Debug" can cause performance problems in your system.
Also the ftp server logs will be needed in this case.

  • Empty files are getting created at receiver FTP server

    Hi Experts,
I have an Idoc to File scenario where I am sending an XML file to receiver FTP server.
Scenario is working fine but sometimes an empty file is getting generated at receiver FTP server.
I have already selected ignore empty file at receiver channel so issue is not within PI system configuration.
When I checked the message log I can see that almost all the files are getting created successfully without any issues, but
for some files/messages I can see that there are below error logs.
"Transmitting the message to endpoint <local> using connection IDoc_AAE_http://sap.com/xi/XI/System failed, due to: com.sap.engine.interfaces.messaging.api.exception.MessagingException: Could not get FTP connection from connection pool (1 connections) within 5,000 milliseconds; increase the number of available connections"
"Exception caught by adapter framework: Could not get FTP connection from connection pool (1 connections) within 5,000 milliseconds; increase the number of available connections."
And after there is again success message log in the same message and it creating a file successfully during that time stamp.
but the third party is sometime receiving empty file which I am not able to find in any trace or log (my file name is SD_timestamp.xml).
Can you please let me know what is the solution and what adjustments FTP server need to do in order to resolve this issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Rahul Kulkarni

The error you are getting that says "Could not get FTP connection from connection pool (1 connections) within 5,000 milliseconds; increase the number of available connections" has probably nothing to do with the empty files problem.
I second Hareesh Gampa that you first should try "temporary file creation". You might also need to tell the FTP owner that he should only pick up files with that are written completely and that do comply with a negotiated file name schema. The temp file should have another schema of course then. He should not pick up just every file that is written. See here for details

    Hi
Consider that I dont have FTP installed on my computer. According to this blog
    /people/shabarish.vijayakumar/blog/2006/08/01/along-came-a-file-adapter-mr-ftp-and-rest-of-the-gang
    I have configured.
In sender comm channel I have given Ipaddress of computer 1 (which has a file to be picked)
In Receiver Comm channel I have given IP address of computer 3 (in which file to be posted)
and computer 2 is the XI server
    Computer 1 has FTP installed
    1. XI server should have FTP installed or not ? IF yes is it FTP client  or FTP server   or Guild FTP (according to the blog is enough)
    2. Computer 3 should have FTP installed or not ?
Please help me I am really confused.
    Thanks

  • Strange Problem in File Archiving - Sender FTP Adapter

    Hi,
The scenario is file to IDOc. XI has to read the input file from client FTP server and archive it to XI local file server.
File is archived properly without FCC (for xml files). But with FCC, the sender FTP adapter is archiving empty files (0 kb files) not the original file with data.
I've checked SXMB_MONI, even there I can see the file data and the IDoc is getting posted with proper data. But, the archived file is empty. Not sure about the problem.
    Please suggest. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Joe.

    Hi,
I've already tried archiving the file to the FTP server itself, it's working fine (even with FCC). But, when I try to archive it to the XI server (read from FTP and archive at XI server), it's writing empty file to the XI archive directory. I'm using PI 7.0 SP 14. My sender FTP adapter dtls follow
    Data Connection: Passive
    Timeout Secs: 500
    Connect Mode: Permanently
Transfer Mode: text and binary tried both
File type: text and binary tried both..
    Looking out for a solution.
    Thanks,
    Joe.

    Hi,
Some times file adapter will not pick the file it will be strange u cant find any error regarding it..........i thnik u have proper authorization for AL11 because file adapter is picking the file...
check the processing parameters what is the mode of trasfer is it test or delete.....
better to have NFS at both the ends or take NFS at sender side...

  • Receiver-File-Adatper creates empty files on FTP-Server

    Hi experts,
I have a problem with my IDOC-to-File-scenario. My Mapping converts IDOCs to XML-files. Then the xml-files should be send to a ftp-server in New York. but only the filename is created on the ftp-server in New York. but without any content.
At first I tested the scenario with a ftp-server in our company. and it works. the files and the right content were created. so the scenario and the mapping are working correctly.
Have you any idea what the problem is?
    Thanks and best regrads
    Christopher

Dont use anonymous login. Please provide user name and password.
Also go to adapter engine queue. There see the details description of your message. There it will specify which file got created, on which FTP server, in which folder and also how many bytes XI has transferred. If possible let me know these details.
Also try uploading any other file to FTP.
For this got to Command prompt.
    1. open (o) IP ADDRESS
    2. User name
    3. Password
    4. go to specified folder
    5. Use PUT command to save the file on FTP server.
If after all these empty files is getting created then contact your system administrator and tell him to check firewall settings. Because there are few parameters which allows data transfer.
Because if firewall problem is there then u wont be able to put a file manually on that FTP server.
    Let me know the output.
    Warm Regards,
    Gouri

  • File not picking up in FTP server

    Hi SAP-XI experts,
2 different files are send to same FTP server but one file was picked but other was not picking.
Error that came while monitoring CC is as below:
"Conversion of file content to XML failed at position 0: java.lang.Exception: ERROR converting document line no. 1 according to structure 'row':java.lang.Exception: ERROR in configuration / structure 'row.': More elements in file csv structure than field names specified!".
Seeing the error we cross check the content of file present at FTP server. But everything was fine,it contain same no.of fields present in Content conversion and even same length.
Solution: I added a extra row in Content conversion "row.additionalLastFields   ignore".After that i stop and restart the Communication channel it start picking the file but the Communication channel is still in red.
Can u please tell me ASAP the reason why the file was not picked first and then after adding extra row it started picking.
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi,
it is related to some problem with the data only...because i too faced the same issue...i was also not able to see the new line when i try to open the same in notepad++ ... may be some other paramters or data of excel/CSV which is avoiding to display the same..in notepad++
also try one more thing...enable the new line characters and see if there is any difference...between the processes and failed files...
