Fullview RAW/JPG Images in Aperture appear fractured and/or solid black

Hey guys,
I'm very close to throw something out of the window.
I changed from iPhoto to Aperture 3.5.1 a few month ago and imports from my 400D Canon and iPhone/iPad worked finde until recently, when Aperture decided not to show thefull view anymore. It does show it either solid black or cramped full of pixel fragments from other programs.
Below you can see how the mess looks like. The pictures were pixled by me after the Screenshot
I already tried rebuilding the Database, backed the pictures up to our NAS and reinstalled Aperture. Nothing works. Thumbnails in Aperture seem to look fine and the CR2 Files are being opened in Photoshop just like always, eventhough Preview seems to have the same problem.
I'd be so glad if any of you had a solution to my little problem ;_;

Did you recently install the new Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.05  ?
You can check this in the "About" panel from the main menu bar: Aperture > About Aperture.
If you now are having the most recent raw support, did the problem occur directly after installing it?
If reimporting did not help, try to create a new Aperture library (File > Switch to Library > other/new) and try to import a RAW file into the new library. Does that work?

  • Re: RAW format images in Aperture

I am STILL having problems displaying RAW format images in Aperture 3.1.2, they turn almost monochrome dark green after fully loading. No one seems to have an answer. Have seen a few postings on mac blog sites but no answers to the problem, so its not just me ! iPhoto does not have this problem, but would like to use the other editing facilities on Aperture. Am using a Sony A550, which IS on the Apple list of supported cameras !
Don't want to have to buy yet another photo editing software.

That definitely sounds like a bug, but I don't use that camera to be able to have a second (or is it third? ) verification of the problem.
Have you checked the console log to see if Aperture is choking on something? Not sure you'd be able to do anything with that information, but it might lead somewhere.
Other than that, the only thing I can suggest is including your camera model and "RAW" in the subject of a new post. I'm pretty sure the problem is with your camera's RAW format, as opposed to being a general Aperture problem. Maybe a more direct query would help get a better answer?

  • Last night suddenly when I right-click-view-images in firefox, they appear centered and against a black background. It's usually meant to be a white background and the image appearing at top left. How to revert it?

I'm having trouble with something in firefox, it's quite minor but still bugs me. Last night suddenly when I right-click-view-images in firefox, they appear centered and against a black background. It's usually meant to be a white background and the image appearing at top left. I can't remember what I did to change this if it's my fault; if someone knows how to revert it I'd be thankful.

cor-el : thanks for the pointers! I wish the solution isn't an add-on every time ... if such long-standing behaviour is going to change, the least that could be done is put in an about:config option to get back the old behaviour.

  • Convert jpg image to array of integers and store in file

For a project that I am working on I need to be able to take the black and white jpg images that I am using and convert each pixel into either a -1 or +1 according to if the pixel color is white or black. Then, once I have an array of those values, I need to store the array to a file. Can this be done? Can PixelGrabber accomplish this task? Thanks in advance!

    Yes
    PixelGrabber pg = new PixelGrabber(myImage, 0, 0, width, height, pixels, 0, width);

  • Help!  Images in Aperture are dark and oversaturated...

I just got a new MacBook Pro, so I decided to download the Aperture demo to give it a try. I have been working with Lightroom and wanted to compare the two.
So I imported my first folder of images from some conference events I shot. My first impression was that images appeared a bit dark, contrasty and oversaturated, but I figured that was probably a result of underexposure, since I didn't have a lot of light to work with, or possibly from working with flash in dark rooms.
I went through and opened up all the photos and pulled-down highlights and did color-correction (flesh tones were a bit red). Then I uploaded photos to SmugMug... imagine my surprise to see everything appear flat and light and undersaturated. I couldn't figure it out... I looked through Aperture for possible explanations... proofing wasn't on so that wasn't it. Exported images were given sRGB profile (as opposed to Adobe RGB). I checked them in both Safari and Firefox... same results. Then I went back to the originals and opened them in Preview... they were lighter and less-contrasty than Aperture showed them to be. They looked like they should have looked. (By the way, I am working with JPEGs taken in the sRGB color space.)
So what happened in Aperture? Did something happen on import? I have searched all over the internet and can't seem to find anyone else having this same problem.
    Help!
    -Erin

Okay, may have posted prematurely... images look the same in Aperture as they do in Photoshop and Lightroom. So it is something weird with how they display in Preview and online...
Grrrr! I hate this color management crap!

  • Auto import images into aperture...and continue importing...

i know that there is a script to import images into aperture, but i need to use this with a tethered camera....so i use a canon app to shoot files to a folder and as the files come in, i need them to get imported as they keep coming in....i am only referencing them, so they are actually staying within the folder....i can import the files but i don't know how to/which command "keeps checking the folder for new files that came in" hope this makes sense....
i know that there is a "hot folder" app available which seems to be a automator app, but it is superslow and only brings in every 4th or 5th image (and sometimes just brings everything to a halt...)

  • Images in Aperture appears oversaturated in the Full mode. Please help?

I'm using 30" Apple HD screen, and when I opening photo in the normal mode all the colors are fine. However once I change it to full screen mode the Red and Yellow become overstaurated. Please help!

Are you using two displays? If you are then odds are your other display (not the 30") is set as the default display. When this happens the full mode uses the other display's profile (the default) in full screen mode.
What you need to do to correct it is to go into the color sync utility. Under the "Devices" tab go down to "Displays". Toggle it show all your displays. Select your 30" ACD and then to the right select the "Make Default Display" button.

  • Exported originals turn Black! I have an awful situation where my exported RAW (Nef) files from a special event have turned solid black. This happened while I was importing another job.

A few days ago I got back late with my days work and went about importing it into Aperture as per usual. It was a big job so while the import was taking place I decided to export another job that was wanted the next morning. This client needed  origonal RAW files (NEF nikon) so I selected 'all' and chose 'export originals' from the File menu. These then went to my desktop, ready to be uploaded to a client FTP. So.. this is where the scary stuff started. The import went fine but the export was a disaster.  They appeared (on the desktop folder) with the preview as cover flow being the same as the import. When trying to open them they come up as completely black images. Ok, stay with me, this gets worse. Going back to the Aperture project, many of the correctly displaying previews have now turned black also, remaining previews when clicked on turn black. I've checked in the package contents of the library and have found the import master files correctly archived. The master files for the export though (the ones I'm desperately looking for) still view as the same image as the import. They do however have the file number of the exported files. I hope this makes sense. I really need to locate these missing original NEF files. Please help..

You can just try it with one image to start with, perhaps even one that youaren't having a problem with just to get the idea.
    From the Aperture Manual:
To update JPEG previews for an image selection
In the Browser, select an image or group of images whose JPEG previews you want to update.
Control-click the image selection, then choose Update Previews from the shortcut menu.
You can also force the rebuilding of previews for an image selection.
To force the rebuilding of JPEG previews for an image selection
In the Browser, select an image or group of images whose JPEG previews you want to force Aperture to update.
Hold down the Option key while Control-clicking the image selection, then choose Generate Previews from the shortcut menu.
    Link to manual: http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=6%26sec tion=15%26tasks=true
I'm not certain that it'll help your problem, but it rang a bell with me as I had some images with black previews in an old library I was looking at last week and I used the force procedure to get the previews back how they should be.
    EDIT: Added link to manual

  • Art Brushes appear grey, and not Rich Black.

Art brushes are showing a grey version of what should be a Rich Black RGB 0, 0, 0,. Furthermore, expanding the art brush stroke and sampling the color shows the strokes "Black" is actually: 32,32,32, pre-expansion the RGB sample shows the stroke is 0,0,0.
    Color Mode=RGB
    Print Proof=NO
    Document =RGB
Display all Blacks, print all Blacks=Rich Black
Options for Art Brush show art brush swatch is Rich Black but using eyedropper (within brush options window) and sampling preview stroke CHANGES swatch preview from Rich Black to Grey. (see attachments)
image 1 (below): Art brush stroke (greyish), over top of pen tool shape (rich Black)
image 2 (below): RGB of stroke
image 3 (below): RGB of stroke after converting to shape.
Image 4 (below—art brush options): Art Brush Before sampling using colorization...
Image 5 (below—art brush options): Art Brush sampled using colorization..

    Try this.
Use one of the Chalk and Charcoal brushes, like Charcoal - Feather.
Set the colorization method to NONE.
Make a mark. Take a sample reading with the Eyedropper tool. The RGB value will be, 32,32,32 (or some place around there) but defiantly not 0,0,0.
Now EXPAND the stroke and take a reading of the shapes color. Same values.
    It is NOT RICH BLACK.
I DO NOT understand emils directions.

  • Why when I upload a raw image to Aperture

Why when I upload a raw image to Aperture (23.5mb) and make enhancements to it, then when I export it the size drops drastically (2.1mb)?

This totally depends on your export settings. RAW files are minimally compressed, JPEG files are very compressed. What output size are you using, and what JPEG compression settings? Note 8-10 for JPEG compression is the sweet spot between quality and filesize. I personally use 10.

  • PSE wish list - Auto stacking RAW + JPGs

I'm using PSE V10 and have a 'wish list' item for suggested improvements to the program.
A feature that would be extremely valuable to many users would be the ability to auto stack photos where there are the RAW + JPG images present in the Catalog. The JPG would end up on top of the stack.
This can be done manually but is tedious when there are many photos to deal with. Failing an automatic feature a single action shortcut to access the 'Stack | Stack selected photos' command would be useful.
a forum discussion on this topic is here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4585792#4585792

As reported above I THOUGHT I'd found a shortcut suitable for stacking a JPG over a RAW.
However, the stack command in the main menu, which has the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+S will stack the RAW over the JPG whenever the RAW thumbnail is ahead of the JPG in the Catalog. I want the reverse to happen.
I found I can get the JPG to stack over a RAW, if the RAW appears before the JPG, by selecting the RAW first then with the Ctrl button down select the JPG. Then using 'Stack | Stack selected photos' in the mouse right click menu. However, this fails when using Ctrl+Alt+S whenever the RAW is listed before the JPG. Am I missing something?

  • About Help image does not appear

    RoboHelp X5.2 Webhelp output
A logo created as a jpg to be used as an About Help button
will only appear when compiled on my hard drive.
I got rid of the powered by Robohelp button and created a
company image in jpg format for the About Help button.
In my project I double-clicked on the skin, and then the
About Button, selected the jpg for the About Button image, selected
a gif to use in the About Help dialog box, added company
    information, company name, etc.

I compiled to my local drive. Everything works. The jpg logo
appears on the top right-hand side, and when you click on it, the
About Help dialog box opens with the gif image and other
    information.
However, the development team compiled the help along with
the application to one of their test boxes. The jpg image does not
appear. Instead, a small white box with a red x and the words About
Help appears. When you click on this the About Help dialog box
opens with all the correct information including the gif image.
Both images reside in the skin folder on my hard drive. When
I compile the project they reside in the main folder with all the
    htm files and js files.
Not sure how to resolve this.

I am also having this problem. I've just converted a project
from RH X5 to RH v7. In X5 the .gif file attached to the About
button worked fine. In RH 7 nothing appears. I've tried adding the
.gif to the Baggage files but it's still broken. Any other
    suggestions?

  • How to separate RAW+JPG after import?

    Greetings:
Is there a way to separate jpg files from a collection of RAW+JPG images after import?  They were imported without checking the "treat raw + jpg files separately" box in preferences.  Having worked with them, I would like to simply separate out the jpg sidecar files and quickly post the jpgs.
Is there a way to do this?  I've tried changing preferences and re-importing from the combined image folder to another folder, but the resulting jpgs don't show up as files in Finder.
    Platform: Mac
    Software: Lightroom 4.4
    Thanks,

I'm looking for a solid solution within Lightroom too.
Until that time, maybe http://www.robcole.com/Rob/ProductsAndServices/RawPlusJpegLrPlugin/ can help you?

  • Need to Export All Images from Aperture to Photoshop.  Can anyone help?

I'm new to Mac. Just got my iMac in January. I wanted to buy the Mac version of Photoshop Elements 8, but the Apple salesperson convinced me that Aperture 2 would be much easier. After three months, I've discovered that Aperture is just not for me. I just purchased and installed Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac today. I would like to move all of my images from Aperture to Photoshop and delete Aperture from my computer. I cannot figure out how to do this. Whenever I try to export, the Aperture "library" appears as a big block that won't open or prompt for subfolders. Please help!

Pvonk has good advice. I just want to make sure you understand the Aperture has a Master and at least one Version of each image file. The Master is the original -- never touched. The Version is at first a copy of the Master, but as soon as you make any changes it holds those changes. So you have to decide whether you want to export the Masters, the Versions, or both (which you'll have to do separately, afaik). Aperture gives you the choice. Click "Photos" in the Library tab of the Inspector, then select all, then "File>>Export". If you want to maintain your groupings (e.g.: Projects), you will probably have to select the images in each group and export them as a unique set.
Note that Aperture is a very powerful image database (pros refer to this as "Digital Asset Management") in addition to (w. v. 3) being a very powerful digital photograph development lab. Photoshop Elements does none of the former, and a very different kind of job than the latter.
