Functions in a Column

If I am working on a function for a column, eg =IF(ISBLANK(D11),0,1) , but I want to apply it so that each cell auto updates to the same row as the column (the formula is in column E and I want E11 to look at D11, E12 to look at D12, etc) how do I do that
without having to copy and paste to each cell and changing the numbers?  Sorry for the noob question, but I'm stumped

Select the cell with the formula (E11).
Do one of the following:
The lower right corner of the selected cell is a small square, the so-called fill handle. Use the mouse to drag the fill handle down to the cells below. This is called 'filling down'. Excel will automatically adjust the reference to cell D11 to D12, D13,
etc.
Or copy E11 to the clipboard (Ctrl+C), then select the cells below, e.g. E12:E49. Paste (Ctrl+V) will copy the formula and adjust it automatically.
A cell reference such as D11 is called relative. Excel will adjust it when you fill or copy it.
If you don't want the reference to change, make it absolute by inserting $ before the column letter and/or row number: $D$11 will
not be adjusted. An easy way to make a reference absolute is to select it and press F4. F4 actually toggles between four states: D11, $D$11, D$11 and $D11.

    Now I want to use the GoNav function on the column that dynamically changes.
    The data format for this column should be:

    But this syntax only works for the column Department.Department_name. If the prompt on the dashboard is changed to another column the navigate link doesn't work anymore.
    Is there a solution to make this work so that also the column can be set dynamically for the navigation?

    As per your comments above you are using Column selector kind of functionality using a Dashboard prompt and in your GO nav you are taking column Department that's way it is working for that column only , if you change the Column in Dashboard prompt also still GO nav point to Department column only...make the GO NAV to take dynamic columns..
    I am not sure whether we can pass presentation variable .....with my knowledge its not..use GO URL instead of GO NAV

  • How to use the same function in a column so it varies from row to row.

    In a spreadsheet, I have four columns: item, quantity, price, total cost.
    How can I write a function (product) for the entire "total cost" column that automatically will place the correct "total cost" for the item in that row; i.e.: =product(quantity,price)
    This would save time by writing one function for the entire column so that the function would not have to be written for each row.

    Question asked and responded several times.
    If quantity is in column C and price in column D,
    the common soluce is to use the formula:
    =C2*D2 in E2
    then use the fill down tool which will automatically create the formulas
    =C3*D3
    =C4*D4
    As I am a lazy guy, I use a shorter formula:
    =C*D
    and fill down reproduce it as is in the other cells.
    In fact I use
    =ROUND(C*D,2)

    Hi Rana,
    In your scenario, you use previous function in the “Data” cell, right? Previous function cannot be used in the overlapping parts of row group and column group. One workaround of this issue is use custom code to get the previous value.
    Public Shared previous as Integer

         previous=current
         current=Item
         return current

      Public Shared Function GetPrevious()
         return previous
      End Function
    Then you can use the expression below in the “Data” cell to get the previous value:

  • How to apply time series function on physical columns in OBIEE RPD

    Hi,
    I know a way to apply time series function(Ago and ToDate) by using existing logical columns as the source. I have set the chronological key and created time dimension. In the expressiion builder for the same Time Dimension appears at the Top so that we can use its level.
    But I couldn't apply a time series function when i have to create a logical column using physical columns. In the expression builder for the same, Time dimension does not appear in the list. Neither can i use any column from the time dimension. Please let me know a way to do it.

    Time series functions are - by design and purpose - only valid for derived logical columns and not useable inside physical mappings.
    If you want / need to do it on a physical level, then abandon the time series functions and do it the old-school way with multiple LTS instances.

  • Error calling pl/sql function in target column

    I get this error when calling my function in ODI:
    Caused By: java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00904: "mySchema"."GET_ODI_DEFAULT_VALUE(1)": ongeldige ID --> 1 is an IN parameter
    while in sql developer I get a good result with following query:
    select mySchema.get_odi_default_value(1) from dual;
    In my target table for the primary key I call a sequence from mySchema and this works fine.
    I've tried the following synxtax in the mapping of my target column:
    - <%=odiRef.getObjectName( "L","GET_ODI_DEFAULT_VALUE(1)", "D" )%>
    - <%=odiRef.getObjectName( "L","GET_ODI_DEFAULT_VALUE", "D" )(1)%>

    Best practices would be to use getobjectname method as this way your not hardcoding anything into the interface and you are referencing the logical object only, which means you can change the logical object later and not have to worry about changing the interfaces.

    I searched Internet to find a good tutorial to help me to write functions in DI, but couldn't find any. I need to write rules for mapping columns in Mapping Section of my query object, but honestly as I don't have a sample or tuterial , I've faced by too many errors.
    Could anyone introduce me a link to a good manual for writing mapping functions and custom function?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Hide/show functionality of a column in  interactive report

    Hi ,
    Is it possible to remove the hide functionality from a single column in an interactive report ?
    I have an interactive report with the first column being a check box. On the column name I have added the toggle checkall/uncheck all functionality.Now when the user clicks on the check all, the hide column option shows up.
    I do not want the users to be able to hide this column.I was able to remove the sort/filter/control break/aggregate/compute chart
    from unchecking each of these from the report attributes of the column.However I could not figure out how to remove the hide column popup that shows up when you click on the checkbox column name.

    Hi,
    I believe you will want to add a height specification to allow for multiple lines.  And you may want/need to specifiy how you want lines to wrap.
    Add (for example):
      height: 60px; 
      white-space: nowrap; 
      word-wrap: break-word;
    There are defaults and several options for white-space and word-wrap.  You may want to look them up and give them a try for comparison.

    My problem is - if I use a user defined function to fetch a value in the select statement of the reference cursor, the EJB gives an error msg - invalid column name.
    If instead of using the function I get the value directly from the table, it works fine. Refer the code below :

    from emp ;

    Hi:
    When use inline Function to simplify the SQL statements, there is one thing that one should conside--Purity Level.
    if you create standalone stored pl/sql function. Oracle implicitly determines the PURITY level during compilation of the stored objects or at execution of an anonymous pl/sql block.
    if you implement Package inline Function( in your case),unlike standalone stored pl/sql functions, the PL?SQL Engine does not determine the purity level of package functions. Therefore, you must explicity assign the correct purity levels for the function to be called inline.
    the code like:
    create or replace package mypack is
    function getempname(empcode emp%empid%type)
    return varchar2;
    PRAGMA RESTRICT_REFERENCES(getempname,WNDS,WNPS,RNPS);
    end mypack;
    I think it can solve your problem if you use enough "pure"to be called inline function. Or you can create the standalone function to do it.

  • Sorting a Collection with dynamic columns using a custom compare function for multiple columns

    I need help and ideas on how to sort a ListCollectionView.  My problem is complicated by 3 requirements-
         1. The column values contain HTML tags that needs to be removed before sorting (use custom compareFunction to strip HTML)
         2. The columns are dynamic, so dataField names are not known at compile time (need a single compareFunction for all columns)
         3. The data is used in an AdvancedDataGrid so multi-column sorting is required
    I have figured out how to solve any 2 of the 3 requirements.  However, I am having difficulties supporting all 3 requirements.
    Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

    After playing with this some more I think I've figured out a solution.  This seems to work in initial testing.  Also, there is not a need to capture the current sort column in the headerRelease event which many offered solutions suggested.  Another benefit to this solution is that keyboard initiated sorting is handled also.  Whereas the headerRelease event is only triggered by a mouse click on the column header and special handling is required if the user uses the keyboard to access the column header.
    One point that I don't understand is how ascending/decending order is determined.  Behavior seems to be different between a single SortField versus multiple SortFields.  Notice how the compareResults are handled for the different situations.  Anyone out there know why???

    I have been displaying information for individual series in a chart via a datagrid so that the user can edit it (change color, series style, etc.) And it works fine, but now I need to add in some functionality in the header of the series style column.  Basically the user needs to be able to "override" each entry to make all of the series types lines or area or plot or whatever he chooses in the header.  In my research on the net, it looks like I may have to use AdvancedDataGrid to do this.  Does anyone know how I would do this.
    Here's what I have so far.  I've left out most of the other columns for simplicity.

  • Count function on months column gives wrong result

    I am on OBIEE 11.1.1.7.150120.
    I used the count function on the month column and rather than getting 12 as the answer i get 365. (i used a filter on the year column to restrict it to one year)
    How could this happen?

    I was able to get the answer as 12 on the month column in the Dim_Time using the count distinct.
    The main reason i was trying this is because i have a VALUE column in VIew_A. I am trying to sum the values of these, but when i use the sum function, the output is quite huge and wrong. I dosen't match with the monthly figures.
