G5 Quad hangs almost every night - requiring a hard reset in the morning

leaves absolutely nothing in the system logs.
It's very strange. I leave barely anything running at night - maybe email and occasionally VMWare.
When I get in the next morning, the screen saver is completely frozen. and I have to power off/on to get it to respond.
Any ideas?

Dozens of threads on "restart on wake from sleep" and you have an Intel (non-IBM/PPC G5). Similar case, totally different.
Reset the SMC. Turn if off and shutdown for the night. Unplug all cables and power. If on UPS, just shutdown and turn off UPS.
Some screen savers may be better than others.
One good reader feedback report on another excellent site:

i have problem with my iphone 3G that stopped updating with ios 4.2.1 currently almost every app requires ios 4.3or higher. what do i do with my iphone

App developers decide on what iOS versions to support with their apps. Also, Apple has identified certain updates that are necessary for particular applications. The only way to continue using certain apps on the iPhone 3G is to not update your apps if they require a higher iOS to operate. When you get ready to update an app, it will say what iOS is works on, and if it requires higher than the iOS you have, do not update. The only other alternative is to replace the device with a newer model.

  • Every night I have to reset my email password on my iPhone. It says my account is disabled for security reasons.waited 3 days to set up2 step verification. So far I have gotten no  where, same old reset?????

I have to constantly reset my iPhone password! Yahoo email and Facebook are always disabled because of security reasons, so it says. I reset it every night, it will be fine until the next night, then I reset it again! I know someone  is changing the settings and my profile. They changed my name to Joe Bonamassa { my favorite musician} in my phone contact profile. They also completely removed my daughters phone contact profile! It seems like I am being hacked constantly! I think I know who it is! I did block this person on my phone and the computer, and yet he still leaves phone messages on the voice mail.  I am having problems with my home phone also, which I use as a business phone. It is Bright House network, and the voicemail does not always work! Bad for my business! This person has several phones, including his parents cell phone. So far I do not know how to block all his calls on my house phone. He does not call me very much, but he is upset I do not talk to him anymore. It may not be him, but I suspect he is the one, he works on his home computer all night, trading on E-Bay. What do you do about constant hacking? I give up, I will not keep resetting the password. Please help if you can. Thanks!

why is my ipad keep restarting almost every 5 minutes and also why is the screen not rotating.

Nobody here can answer a question like that. Try rebooting your iPad and see if that helps.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

my imac (intel core i5, OS 10.10.1) shuts down every night and will not "wake up" next morning -- it never used to do that -- if I hold down the start button more than twice for many seconds, then it will finally boot up and works fine all day – I’ve tried shutting it down and unplugging it, and that does not work -- I’ve run disk utilities checked permissions, and run anti-virus and get no adverse results – I cannot figure out what is different that causes this problem

From previous experience 3 indicates a shutdown initiated by the SMC (System Management Controller) — hardware responsible for many low-level functions including power, sleep, lights, and fan activity.
    Try resetting it:
Power or other problems related to unexpected system sleep, shutdown, lights or fans call for an SMC reset. Read all the steps.
    Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC. Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
Resetting the SMC for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • I skype every night with a person nearby, and the call mac-to-mac is dropped every night at exactly the same hour, to the minute.

I have an even weirder problem. I skype every night with a person nearby, and the call mac-to-mac is dropped every night at exactly the same hour, to the minute. I have to close skype and restart it and call again and then it works without problems.
I have my imac connected to hi-speed cable.
    Any ideas anyone? Thanks!

You should post in Skype forums.

  • Why does my iMac keep waking every 2 minutes from 2:00 in the morning?

    Hi,
I awoke the other night and happened to notice my iMac keeps waking from sleep every 2 minutes from 2:00 in the morning. The screen doesn't come on, I hear the harddrive power up for a little while then stop, 2 minutes later it happens again.
I don't have "Wake for Network Access" on, and have tried turning off "Allow Bluetooth devices", I have also done a Virus Scan
I have been able to link the wake attempts to RTC (Alarm) - Real Time Clock. And I have also looked in the console although I don't really understand what is being logged, please see below.
I have OSX 10.10 (Yosemite) installed on a mid 2010 iMac, although I can't say how long this has been happening.
    Any help is greatly appreciated
    Regards
    Byron

  • Router randomly reboots itself almost every night

I've been with Sky for a few months now and this is becoming an increasing frustrating problem. Everything is fine until, somewhere between, I think 10pm-2am, the internet would slow down and after a 2-3 mins - grind to a halt, the connection drops (smiley face disappears from router) before it re-establishes a connection. This doesn't feel like an interference problem as the connection does not just drop - it gradually slows down before reseting itself. At first I thought this was just a firmware check/update but surely this cannot be happening almost every single night? I've called Sky to run some line checks and everything seems normal. I'm already at the master socket and done the usual checks. Now I'm starting to think that somewhere between my router (SR102) and Sky, there is some sort of scheduled 'link refresh' which makes the connection reset itself almost every single night. Anyone with a similar problem - any advice much appreciated.

Mine is the same but reset randomly (Disconnect and connect) about 20 + time a day. Rang Sky and done all test, I am thinking it was the Sky hub (Router) might have gone faulty but they not offer to replace it and want to do more check.
Mine once on smily face in Amber, it sometimes doesn't turn back to white which mean broadband is not connected at all. It has been 1 week now like this.

  • Using Windows vista and Firefox 4 hangs almost every time

I have just installed Firefox 4 and now almost every time I open Firefox it hangs. I have checked all the suggested solutions but nothing has had any effect.

    Hi,
Try '''disabling graphics hardware acceleration'''. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to '''restart Firefox''' in order for this to take effect, so '''save all work first'''.
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please '''check for updates for your graphics driver''' by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * '''[[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]'''
    * '''[[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]'''
Also try to clear the firefox cache etc.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the '''[[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]]''' article.

  • Almost every website requires multiple tries because "cannot find server". Problem started about 10 days ago

Whether I use bookmarks or type a url and then click I get a message that the server cannot be found. I click on try again as many as seven times before the site comes up. This is happening with almost every site from Google to blogs.

UPDATE: I had 36 Safari windows open and minimized on the dock from my last session; 20 of those windows failed to open b/c Safari "couldn't find the server"; I just went to the URL bar of all 20 pages and clicked return, and all 20 pages loaded perfectly, without dropping any images or losing formatting. This is a puzzle!!!

  • Since upgrading to Mountain Lion my computer crashes almost every night

In the morning I have to push the power button even though the sleep is set to never.
It turns out that sometimes during the night and actually usually very close to the morning after there was a kernel panic.
    panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff801bc88aac): "VM_PAGE_QUEUES_REMOVE: unmarked page on Q"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2050.7.9/osfmk/vm/vm_resident.c:2269
Around the kernel panic I always see it referring to the hibernat file even though I am not expecting the system to hibernate.

    com.vmware.kext.vmnet          0073.02.98
    com.vmware.kext.vmioplug          0073.02.98
    com.vmware.kext.vsockets          90.1.5
    com.vmware.kext.vmci          90.1.1
Boot into safe mode, put the machine to sleep, wait about 10 minutes, wake it, and see if the issue persists. If not, dump vmware, restart normally, and repeat the sleep/wake steps.

  • After updating with the recent security patch I now have constant spinning colour wheel almost every key stroke is responded to by the wheel. Can this be fixed?

Since installing the recent security patch I am getting the spinning colour wheel on almost every keystroke in Finder and in Gmail. Any way to speed up - or is this the result of the new security measures?

  • Is it bad to turn your iPod touch off every night? If I don't, the screen will be blank/distorted.

I just got my new iPod touch from Fry's electronic, and just last night, I put it on sleep thoughout the whole night. I wake up, press the home button, and it lights up a gradiant grey-white. It happened the other day when I was playing with Draw Something. I then tried turning it off, and it took forever. But now its working. So I was wording if it's bad/not the best to turn your iPod touch off everynight, and if you do it?

I just let my iPod sleep overnight. I turn on airplane mode to minimnize battery drain.

  • My AirPort Express now drops out almost every night.

The green light remains on as though all is fine, but it completely loses wi-fi signal.
It goes from a full bar perfect wi-fi signal (which it's had for over a year) to zero bars of wi-fi instantly - and then it remains off.
This has been confirmed wtih multiple computers.
About 20% of the time it will come back on by itself after about 10 minutes.
The other 80% of the time, I have to crawl over my television and audio system, unplug the AE and allow it to restart.
This is starting to become maddening. It appears the device itself is defective.
I have installed the latest updates.
