  • G570 with AMD graphics problem

    Hello
I have a problem with my Lenovo G570 laptop with AMD HD 6730M graphics card. There were some problems with it almost from begining, but bearable so I managed to live with it (some BSODs during games, or just from nothing and screen turning black). I have never found the answer for those, so I was just installing latest graphics drivers from AMD site (those on Lenovo site I have never managed to finish installation). And those new driver was quiet good, they havent stop BSODs but when screen disappeared, they was able to restore it without computer reset, so i worked with them through about 2 years. But now after one BSOD my laptop screen couldnt turn on when I started laptop ;/ but system was working. So I used external monitor to see whats happening and after loading Windows 7 there was always BSOD, also some strange vertical red signs showed on the screen (like plenty of red letters "S" or "C"). BSODs was usually coused by atikmpag.sys file so I went to emergency mode and uninstalled GPU drivers which seemed to solve the problem, couse laptop screen came back and Win7 started on normal mode, then I installed drivers back. It was working about 2 weeks and then crashed again and latest solution wasnt working this time. I tried also disc C format and installing old drivers from Lenovo site but with no satisfying results. I managed to wake up the screen by holding starting button 30sec with no energy source, then turning on with AC adapter, but with drivers installed there are still BSODs on wn7 start, but sometimes win7 starts and then GPU keeps reseting with strange screen defects. There was also some starts when win7 was working perfectly but after turning off it crashed again.
I know that this problem is quite complicated, but it has moments when  works totally normal, so I dont know is it all I could do myself or maybe there is any solution? In other case I'll go to service ;/

  • My ATV 3 has really bad buffering problems when using Netflix.

Playing the same Netflix content on my PC is fine with no buffering at all. I can see the progress bar filling up beyond the point at which I'm watching.
Why doesn't the ATV 3 progress bar show that too?
Pausing the movie for 5 minutes or more doesn't help. I would have expected that this would help fill the buffer, but no matter how long I pause it still stutters every 30 seconds or so. Makes me wonder if the ATV 3 is buffering at all.
This problem happens with SD content too. Watching "The Game" last night was fine for first 50 minutes then after that the movie pauses every 20-40 seconds. Eventually watched the 2nd half on my PC with no problems.
Streaming 1080p itunes content on my PC to ATV3 works perfectly.
ATV 3 is connected via ethernet - not wifi - to my router - same router my PC is connected to.
I reckon that there's no problem getting the content from Netflix to my house - its only what ATV 3 is doing.

Thanks for the reply, Huffer. I was plugging it into one of the 3.0 ports. I just tried the 2.0 port. Disk Management successfully loaded, and presented me with an "Initialize Disk" window (I hit "Cancel"). It showed that HDD as "Not initialized" and having no partitions (all space unallocated). No new drives appeared in Computer.
The drive behaved fine when used with my old laptop (the issue with that laptop is a power supply issue, not a drive issue). I don't have another working computer to try it in, nor do I have another drive to try in the docking station.
I assume that I should not initialize it, as that may make my data more difficult to recover, correct? Is problem likely my laptop, the docking station, the drive, or an incompatibility issue? What utility might I be able to use to see this partition and copy my data over?

  • Photoshop CC really bad lagging on new rMBP

I resently bought a new Retina MacBook Pro 13" with a nice fast 2,8 i7 proccesor and a big chunk of 16 Gb ram. After using it on my older iMac I was exited to use it on my new MacBook. But its lagging really bad. It makes it unusable for me. I don't work with large files and we mostly use it for small UI design. I use a Bamboo Wacom and use OpenGL is on. when turned of its a lot faster but this results in masive graphic bugs.
Anyone know how to fix this? Because I'm really thinking of switching to Sketch 3 (http://bohemiancoding.com/sketch)

Well, something is up with your system to make it slow.
Do you have any third party plugins? Have you tried disabling them?
Do you have any utilities that would interfere with other applications (antivirus, firewall, etc.)?
And the "graphics bugs" mean that you have a driver problem which will have to be addressed by Apple.

  • New iMac freezing, showing Graphics problems and Wifi Problems on 1st Day

My sister just received her new iMac - 20 inch - 500 GB drive.
I started seeing problems during the download of the FIRST software update from apple. There was a black box in the lower left corner of the software update window where it should have been grey (or metal).
On reboot, I also occasionally show weird flickering graphics in the lower right of the login screen.
My new iMac also frooze about 4 different times during the installtion of various updates during the first 4 hours of use. Mouse and keyboard would not work. Once it frooze at the login screen after clicking on the user name.
I also had wifi issues. After three hours of use, my STRONG wifi connection was lost. Moreover, I could not see any other wifi stations. (normally I would see 5 other wifi access points from my sister's neighbours). After reboot, the other wifi access points would appear including my sisters but I could NOT connect to my sister's wifi access point. It said I had an error. I checked the keychain and it showed the right key/password for my sister's wifi AP. I had to run Mac Network Diagnostics and reset wifi to get things working again.
It sounds like a sick iMac. I know others have experienced freezing. But given all these problems, should I ask for a new imac?
    Rob
P.S. My sister got AppleCare as well. Maybe that was a good thing...

I had a long chat with Apple Support. It would appear that Apple's policy is not replace the computer unless it can be determined that it is a hardware problem (even though my problems started to appear right out of the box before I even had a chance to download any updates). According to the Apple product specialist, sometimes there are bad installs of the OS at the factory.
Apple wanted me to format the drive and reinstall the OS.
Fortunately, I did not have to reinstall the OS! I started to see graphics problems when I was asked to run the Disk Utilility off the Install DVD (so I could format the drive). So clearly there was a hardware problem.
In retrospect, I really wish there was an Apple Store nearby to buy Apple computers. I am sure the store manager would not ask me to go home and reinstall the OS etc and try again when the computer doesn't work properly out of the box.
Those who have Apple Stores nearby do not know how lucky they are!

  • Graphics problems with macbook pro retina mid 2012

It seems like I've started having graphics issues after installing the latest firmware upgrade. At seemingly random times, I start getting graphics garbage showing on my screen. Here is a screenshot:

I'm also getting some really bad sound quality on facebook notifications. I've been forced to disable them they sound horrible like they are clipping.
Trying to figure out if this is a problem on all Late 2013 15" macbook pros or if mine is defective? This occurs even at around 20-30% volume levels with the Facebook notification sound problems...

  • I just can't solve this Photoshop graphic problem

    Greetings...
I've seen a bit hereabouts on graphics import problems, but nothing so far has led me to a solution.
Here's the thing: A multi-layer graphic was created for me in Photoshop CS2. It has a backround image and text. I intend to use it as a menu background. Looks swell in Photoshop, but when imported into DVDSP4, the text goes bad on me. The nice smooth edges on the capital "S" and other rounded characters now look roughhewn. The capital "T" and other hard edge characters look fine. The background image looks fine. Only the text stubbornly refuses to look like it does when still in Photoshop.
The file was delivered to me at 800x600, 72 dpi. I've tried importing it into DVDSP4 most every way my feeble mind can think of: as is, resized to 720x534; as a merged-layer psd file; as a flattened psd file; as a tiff; as a pict; as a jpeg. It always comes out exactly the same - bad font problems, background image okay. I then took a few of the above images, dropped them into menus, burned a disc and looked at the finished product on my TV. The font problems were still very evident. (I also included on the test disc a menu with fonts entered directly from DVDSP4; they looked just fine.)
Obviously, I'm missing something here. I have only superficial knowledge of Photoshop, so I'm really at a loss. Clearly, one should be able to transfer a graphic from Photoshop to DVDSP4 without a noticeable loss, but I'll be darned if I can figure out how to do it.
    Any advice, o learned ones?

    PowerMac dual 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Thanks again to all for your feedback. I'm going to look into every option you mentioned to see if I can find the key to my problem.
By the way, I just now tried a test file of my own. Started from scratch with the NTSC 720x540 preset; typed in some print (36 pt, 24 pt); left the setting at "crisp"; saved the file as a PSD; imported it into DVDSP4; dropped it into a new menu ("Set Background, All layers visible") and...same problem.
But just so my expectations are not off base, let me ask you this: The test file looked fine in Photoshop, yet the round characters all looked very rough once they were dropped into the DVDSP menu. What do you see on your setup when YOU do this? Are the letters all approximately as clean and well-formed as they were when residing in Photoshop? Now, I haven't burned this latest test file to see what it looks like on my TV, but I'm still curious as to why it looks so bad in DVDSP simulation. Note that text generated from within DVDSP4 looks just fine all down the line, from viewer to simulation to burned DVD.
    What the heck...????????

  • Really BAD 3D Performance on Intel iMac

    Hello all,
I have like 2 weeks with a new Intel iMac 20" (C2D 2.4Ghz / 256MB ATI Card / 1Gb RAM) had no problems so far, until today. I decided to install Vista thru Boot Camp (I know I should have installed XP, but Vista is all I got) for games, so I downloaded a few demos to check if it was any good with 3D gaming, installed GRAW2 and NFS Most Wanted, these are not cutting edge games and I tought they should run perfectly smooth as my iMac is superior than recomended specs for those games, well they didnt run well, not even playable at even low resolutions (640*400 / 800*600) the games looked all jerky and slow, really painfull performace, I tought, well, maybe the drivers didnt installed correcly, reinstalled drivers, nothing, erased and reinstalled Vista and drivers, still same problem, even tried games under OS X, HALO Universal and DOOM 3 Demo, again not cutting edge games, they run really bad even on low settings, and I mean painfully slow, so this is not only on Windows.
This is not acceptable for a computer with these specs, even my 2 year old PC (AMD Athlon 3400+ / 1Gig RAM) with Vista and integrated graphics runs DOOM3 and F.E.A.R. at playable levels on medium quality settings @ 1024*800, its not even fair.
My Mac OS version is 10.5.2 and all current updates have been installed, the problem seems to be only with 3D graphics in both Windows and OS X as it plays Quicktime 960p HD videos and all other graphic media as smooth as butter on a hot pan. Does someone else has this issue or knows what to do to solve it?... It is really frustrating.

You probably did not install the drivers for the video hardware (on the Windows side).
My Mac OS version is 10.5.2 and all current updates have been installed
That would have nothing to do with 3D performance when booted into Windows.
Here's the forum category for Boot Camp users. You should also ask your question there.

  • Satellite C660-1H6 graphical problems (ATI 5470) white pixels

    Hello everyone,
I apologize for my English. I'm Italian.
My pc has a very annoying flaw... during normal use of the pixels you see crazy. You see the annoying white pixels.
There are not many but especially for graphics work it's badly.
I already restored the PC once installed the ATI driver from the Toshiba official website but the problem continues.
I also tried the drivers from the amd site but the problem persists.
If you can help the problem becomes much more pronounced after the return of the suspension. In this case, the desktop you see really bad with all the pixels in a mess.
If you need additional information or tell me I can do tests as well.
    Thank you.

    Hi
Im not quite sure if its a internal display issue or maybe a graphic card problem
Therefore you should connect and external monitor in order to check whats exactly wrong
Usually the graphic card is affected if the same pixels would appear on the second monitor.
But if the picture on the external monitor would be OK, then the graphic chip should be ok too and in such case the internal notebook display is faulty
But in both cases it would be expensive to fix the notebook because both parts are not cheap.

  • Graphics problems with my second monitor...

Ever since I updated to Lion, I get some display problems with my second monitor (a Samsung LED XL2370).
Single windows appear darker and with bad graphics, especially when dragging from the normal monitor to the external one or openign them..
And after 'waking' my MacBook from sleep today, the background image of the normal display was missing. It was just a grey screen, but perfectly functional. And nothing changed when I checked the display settings and tried changing the background.
    Any ideas??
A screenshot with both problems in it.. Acrobat Reader was sitting between two monitors, the right display is the external one

After 10.7.3 i was optimistic apple finally fixed the bug....but it seems that they were not successfull or just didn't care....
I'm seriusly really sour about the rapidly decreasing quality apple delivers.....thinking more and more about switching back to linux again....

  • Major graphics problems, 7300 GT

    Hello.
I have a white 24" iMac with the Intel Core 2 Duo and the 7300 GT graphics card. Upgraded to Leopard and 3 GB RAM.
About a year ago I started experiencing graphical problems while doing things that involved a lot of GPU activity, like playing a 3D game in Windows. Textures would become discolored and corrupted to the point of not being able to play the game. After letting the computer sit for a while it seemed the issues would be alleviated, but the same symptoms would recur after running the game for a while.
I eventually began to notice similar issues occur during much less demanding usage in OS X. Graphical glitches would appear on the desktop and in active windows. When the glitches got especially severe the display would freeze and the system would have to be rebooted to be usable again.
This seemed like a heat related issue, to me. I took the computer apart and cleaned the dust out all of the ducts and fans, but it didn't seem to help at all. I installed an application called smcFanControl, which allowed me to force the fans to run at a faster speed. While running faster, the glitches stopped occurring and the system would no longer freeze.
Things were okay this way for several months, but now, even with smcFanControl set to run the fans as fast as they can go, the glitches are beginning to occur again. Entire windows become discolored with a cyan hue, and random artifacts show up in random places on the display.
Here are some shots to demonstrate what is happening:
    http://horseface.org/iMac/1.png
    http://horseface.org/iMac/2.png
    http://horseface.org/iMac/3.png
iStat pro doesn't indicate anything shocking as far as temperatures go. During all of this glitchy madness, here's what it's showing:
    http://horseface.org/iMac/temp.png
Note that the fan speeds are way high, but, again, that's because I'm forcibly raising them with smcFanControl. Interestingly, though, even when I'm not running smcFanControl, the temperatures seem to hover in a safe area. In spite of this, I'm almost certain it's a heat related issue. When I first installed smcFanControl and increased the speed of the fans, the iMac went from freezing and glitching on a daily basis to totally normal operation. There also appears to be a direct correlation between intensive usage and the glitching/freezing issue.
I have already installed all of the seemingly relevant OS X updates that I can find along with all of the other suggested updates. Nothing has helped, aside from smcFanControl.
So, my question is, what can I do about this? My computer is no longer under warranty. I'd rather not have to take it to Apple and have them charge me for the initial consultation and then whatever hardware replacement is required along with the cost of out-of-warranty service. I have already opened and disassembled this computer while trying to clean it. While it was a very daunting task the first time around (I really wish this iMac were as nicely designed internally as the first G5 iMacs!), I'm comfortable enough to go ahead and do it again, if necessary.
My educated guess here is that there is something wrong with the video card. Perhaps the onboard temperature sensor is bad, and that's why it's reporting safe operating temperatures but is behaving as if it were overheating? I'm not really sure.
Would it be wise to try to replace the video card? This seems to be the obvious next step to me, but, unfortunately, the prices I'm finding for the replacement parts are pretty outrageous. ApplePalace.com lists the 7300 as $188 and the 7600 $231. Is there anywhere I can get a replacement for less? Is this even likely to fix the problem? I really don't want to make such an investment and have it turn out that it's not going to help.
I don't know what to do. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried running Apple Hardware Test?
Your guess is most likely correct of it being the graphics card. I have a friend with the exact same computer same problem. It's not an over heating issue. A component is supposed to operate within certain values and certain temperature ranges. If a part has gone bad or is going bad it may not be able to produce those values at the temperature required. Maybe it can still operate within spec at a lower temperature. Even though temperature appears to be the indicator this does not actually mean the device is over heating rather the part is failing.
I have only been able to find one website that you can purchase the replacement graphics cards for this particular iMac and yes it's a bit pricey. My friend was quoted by the Mac Guys for about $250 including installation for the 7600GT card. Replacing the graphics card is really your only option unless you want to junk it and buy a new machine.

  • Firefox behaves REALLY badly at random times and I'm worried about it?

So here's what happens. This happens at random times, unexpectedly. I click on a new link, any link, and suddenly, Firefox blares up, automatically turns to private browsing, and goes to a bunch of random websites.
Then, it lands on ''www.xnxx<!-- -->.com'',('''edit''', un-linked -J99 ) which I have identified to be a pornography website. After that, it suddenly picks on a random porn video and crashes before the video plays.
This really worries me, because just before this first happened, I had done a quick scan with both Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro, and there was absolutely NO problem.
Not only that, I had gone only to trusted websites.
I'm a high school sophomore, so this could turn out REALLY badly for me if someone sees this happening and thinks that I'm TRYING to watch that stuff.
I have already sent a crash report to Firefox and included the website that I crashed in, which is the porn website. I haven't sent any other details, though.
Could I be getting hacked? I don't think so, because this only happens with Firefox; Chrome, Opera, Maxthon, and IE don't have this problem.
I'm running Firefox 15.0.1 in Windows 7 x64 (why the crash report said Windows NT x86, I have no idea).
    PLEASE help me fix this!

On looking at your System Details aside I note that you include a Crash ID.
That particular crash is probably related to use of Norton software. You may find that you can use the Norton security software without crashes if you disable the '''Norton Security Safe '''feature (Please confirm - or otherwise - that you are using that ). • W7/64-bit on W500 - Switchable Graphics problem

    Hi,
Did a clean install Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) on my Thinkpad W500 (4062-3CG).
Having problem with "ThinkPad Switchable Graphics Driver for Windows 7".
ATI driver won't load, so default Intel chipset is used with poor graphics as a result.
I have also tried "Windows 7 BETA Drivers and Utilities" with no luck.
Yesterday the graphics worked for a short period of time, that was after remoting my Thinkpad with RDP? very strange. But after reboot graphics was back to non functional again.
    Any ideas?
    TIA
    Johan

Did you apply Lenovo driver packages in any specific order? Don't really understand what I missed?
My plan was to do a "clean" W7/64 install and after that run ThinkVantage System Update 4.0 for latest drivers.
In my case ThinkVantage System Update 4.0 could not start without Access Help for Windows 7 installed, that was the first dependency problem.
However, after that ThinkVantage System Update 4.0 run successfully and everything works fine but the ThinkPad Switchable Graphics Driver for Windows 7.
The ThinkVantage System Update 4.0 applied latest updates for everything including the BIOS. When I try to run BIOS update separately for getting around the graphics problem it says BIOS version is OK and no update needed.
Tried to disable Switchable Graphics in BIOS-setup using Discrete but that does not fix my problem?
