G780 wireless stopped working; networks found but can't connect

I have a G780 bought early this year. It came with Windows 8, which I am still using. Everything was working just fine until today. All of a sudden I can't connect to my wireless networks (I have a router that can have a "guest network" in addition to the normal one, and I can't connect to either of these). I had been fiddling with some of the settings last night, but everything had still been working fine. I can connect with other devices so I know the networks are working.
The networks do show up in the list of available networks, but whenever I try and connect it just doesn't work. To make sure I wasn't just typing the passwords incorrectly I tried disabling all security on one of the networks (so it was a totally open network with no password), and the laptop still can't connect. I've tried restarting the wireless router, restarting the computer, updating the driver for the wireless card, uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them, enabling and disabling the wireless card, unchecking the option to allow the computer to turn off the wireless card to save power, and as a last ditch effort I even did this Windows 8 "Refresh" option which uninstalls all programs you've installed and resets options to the defaults. That also included uninstalling my antivirus program, so I've tried connecting without that, too. Nothing has made any difference.
Edited to add that I also downloaded and ran the diagnostic tool from the Lenovo site for my laptop and version of Windows for wireless networking issues and it didn't show anything.
I would really appreciate any insight as to what to do next. I'm pretty much at my wits' end with this.

hi Maltiriel,
Thanks for using Lenovo Community Forums!
Can you try doing a system restore, maybe set it 2 days back or when you last work with the Wireless with no issues,
If that doesn't help,
Pull up the page on the right where it shows you all available wireless networks,
  > Look for your Network and do a right click make sure you "Forget" the network first,
  >Now Try following this Article and Connect to your Wifi Manually,
http://www.op97.org/technology/documents/1HowtoManuallyConnecttoaWirelessNetwork.pdf
Can you also share what it says when you connect to your network
thanks,
Best Regards

  • Satelite M300-D4316 - wireless network detected but can't connect

Previously I could use wireless LAN on my laptop but last week since I registered a bluetooth connection, wireless connection doesn't function anymore.
It can still detect wireless network around me; I fail every time when I try to connect, & it asks me to diagnose the problem & says something like 'signal is too weak'.
I'm pretty sure that it's not the problem of the wireless service- all my friends can connect to it!
    What should I do?

Maybe the Wireless LAN was toggled off?
Try pressing Fn+F8 to toggle the Wireless Devices.
Also ensure the Wireless Switch is turned on at the front/side of the notebook.

  • 4150L - Works on web, but can not connect via VPN or Remote Desktop

Recently purchased a 4150L and installed the latest firmware.  We have been able to access all public websites without any problems.  But, when we try and access our customers computers via VPN (various types) or Remote Desktop, we can't connect.  We can sign-in to VPN, but when we try and access the computer, it says "can't connect".  Exact same message with Remote Desktop.   We are able to connet when use a Verizon phone as a hotspot and from every other internet service that we have tried (i.e. hotels, starbucks, etc.)   It appears it is an issue with the 4150L.
Verizon Tech Support has been no help!
    All ideas are appreciated!
    Thanks,

    Skip,
VPN traffic should be allowed through on the MiFi 4510L by default.  I know I do not have any issues with mine on either the Cisco IPSec or Cisco SSL VPN Clients.
If Verizon DNS is interferring then perhaps you could try to connect to your VPN via a direct IP Address instead of a URL.  Not sure what VPN client you have but there should be a No DNS option to connect if you know the correct IP.  You could also try switching your DNS to one of the free ones such as the one offered by Google or any of the others.
VPN's carry alot of overhead on existing connections in my experience.  Its not untypical to have a 3G connection cut in half when a VPN is applied.  Try running a speed test to make sure your connection is atleast 1 MB on download before initiating a connection.  If the performance of the MiFi is too poor in that area it may never be stable enough to support a connection.  Feel free to post some Speedtest.net averages so we can see what you are working with.
Something to note about the MiFi 4510L is that it is on the SIM card network.  That means that NAT is always going to be an issue and block your users from providing a truely public IP Address.  Directly remoting to them through any means will be nearly impossible.

  • Ethernet printer found, but can't connect during installation

I have a new OfficeJet 8500 that I'm trying to install.  The installation fails every time after the discovery of the device and the SNMP and SLP negotiation with the warning:
Unable to communicate with your printer at this time. This may be caused by a Firewall. If you are using firewall software, verify TCP port 9500 is unblocked from your PC to your printer at 192.168.0.4.
Unable to communicate with your printer at this time. This may be caused by a Firewall. If you are using firewall software, verify TCP port 9290 is unblocked from your PC to your printer at 192.168.0.4.
If you reconfigure the firewall, click Retry to see if the network communication is unblocked or click Next to continue.
This problem is very similar to the one described in this thread http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=Networking&thread.id=731&view=by_date_ascending... with the exception of this one being wired vs. wireless.
The printer is connected via ethernet to a SuperStacker Hub.  I've manually assigned an IP address of 192.168.0.4.  I can ping the device, and can connect to the internal webserver via firefox.
If I choose to ignore the error and continue installing, I can print a test page, but cannot scan.
I can manually add a new printer via the Control panel, and can print a test page.
In both these scenarios, the Solution Center reports a scan error, and scanning fails.
When I try to add a new device via the installation utility, it discovers the wired printer at the proper address.
It starts the network, goes to the Printer Setup window showing the blue wired/wireless box between computers and printers, indicating"Printer Detected", then sends an snmp request, waits for slp reply, then checks hp scanning interface 1&2, then displays the "cannot connect" error above.
I'm running a Dell Precision m65 laptop with Windows XP SP2, Windows Firewall is disabled, AVG Antivirus Resident Shield is disabled.  I'm running NetNanny, which is also currently disabled. Adding the ports and enabling the Windows Firewall makes no difference. Just to make sure, during one incarnation, I successfully installed via USB to ensure that it was possible.
I've spent 4 hours on the phone with tech support.  They escalated to 3rd-tier support and a supervisor promised he'd call me back today at 2pm, but it didn't happen.  I've installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled countless numbers of times during the past 2 days--what a nightmare!
    Any suggestions would be welcomed.

    Hi!
I have just had a similar experience with a newly purchased OfficeJet 8500. I would like it to use the Wireless setup - no cables please!
I don't know, if the following can help you. But maybe it can contribute with some new ideas for further use. My method is not the most scientific. But here we go:
I powered on the printer and started the setup - however communication to the HP printer timed out, and the setup failed. I could NOT ping the printer.
I tried much debugging, as suggested by many forums, and got to the point where I "just tried something".
    My setup:
A Qnap TS-109 PRO II Network storage
    A 64-bit Vista Home Premium
    A HP iPAQ PDA
    A D-link DI-655 wireless router - WPA2 security. Hidden network.
    And now hopefully the Officejet
a.) tried uninstalling firewall, and every "tweak" on every forum.
It didn't work. My printer stayed unconnected.
    Now I got desperate:
b.) Setting static IP's all over the network:
I thought it was a good idea, to set all the network adresses "static" . My entire network was running with DHCP, that in theory ment the location of the connected unit could change. This should not seem like a problem, since browsing the network, should show all connected equipment.
However, setting the IP static, could not hurt.
But - it showed no change. Well now I had a nice clean network with sorted IP-adresses. But no printer.
c.) Next plan: Trying to reset router -that could't hurt either.
1.) Hard reset of router. I pressed the reset button of the router, and all settings were returned to factory settings.
Just the "dlink" open network was now shown. I then connected the printer to this open and potentially dangerous network, and also connected my Vista. And behold: THE PRINTER WAS THERE!
2.) Now I adjusted the router, one thing at the time. This means, firewall settings, and see how it affected the connection to the printer.
3.) Adjusted the wireless security a bit at the time. This means: first changed to hidden network. Then WEP encryption, then WPA encryption then WPA2. Constantly keeping the connection to the printer in mind.
After an hour or so, and countless reboots of the router, the router was set up precisely as before.
But the difference is, I now have an OfficeJet that prints, scans, and is perfectly visible to the network!!
    Best regards

  • I was in Aussie last month and dropped my iPod Touch (4th Gen) on the road. The screen was cracked on the top left-hand corner. The screen got fixed but the wireless stopped working. Can I still get it fixed under my warranty? (bought last July)

I was in Aussie last month and dropped my iPod Touch (4th Gen) on the road. The screen was cracked on the top left-hand corner (where the wireless area is). The screen got fixed but the wireless stopped working. So I am wireless-less... I bought it last July and its still under warranty, but can I still claim a repair on it?

No because it was physical damage

    Hello lucky3480;
I don't know what else to do. I'm thinking of possibly returning the unit and purchasing a wireless internet card to install in the tower. Any help you can provide would be great. Even suggesting a good wireless card at this point
Well it looks like you're not having any luck at all with this AX set up but please don't give on it just yet, it's a good choice for extending your Network. Your on the right path, just going backwards and in the wrong direction. You'll learn a lot about stuff this way but may lead to other issues.
Before I continue, let me know if you have returned the AX or still need help. Here's a link to Apple's PDF about [Designing AirPort Networks|http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Designing_AirPort_Networks10.5-Windows.pdf] Click on it to open in Safari but then save it to your desktop. Now open it from your desktop and start reading Chapter 3, page 42.
    Later...

  • Wireless stopped working, can't power on 'wireless radio'

All of sudden my wireless stopped working on my T60.  While trying to solve the problem, i noticed my 'wireless radio' is off (when i clicked 'fn+F5' to check),  and i cannot power it on from here.  I'm guessing this is the problem, but can't figure out how to turn it on again.  (My switch is on the front of the laptop for wireless radio is switched on.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Please try a system restore, it´s the simpliest way to get back to work.

  • My Telus wireless only works with WEP, but if I switch to WEP the wireless goes down on the other Windows computer being used in the same house.  Is there a way for both of us to get wireless internet or do one of us have to be connected by the ethernet?

My Telus wireless only works with WEP, but if I switch to WEP, the wireless on the other computers in the house (which is Windows and WPA) stops working. My computer works with the ethernet cord but I want to be wireless too!  Do one of us have to sacrifice our wireless?

  • Time Capsule used as router attached to Comcast Modem. wireless stops working. All I have to do is unplug the TC and plug it back in and TC cycles up and have green light as well as the Comcast modem operates correctly. TC 4 yrs old. How do I correct?

Time Capsule used as router attached to Comcast Modem. Wireless stops working with no light showing and Link indicator on modem off.
All I have to do is unplug the TC and plug it back in.
TC cycles up and green light appears as well as the Comcast modem operates correctly.
TC 4 yrs old. How do I correct?

I have the latest and greatest Time Capsule and Comcast. Here is the weird thing. If I have one network set up, then occasionally that network will wedge. If I set up a 5GHz and a 2.4GHz network, then one of them (usually the 5GHz) will wedge. I saw this with a previous Time Capsule, Apple said call Comcast. They checked it out and said it was Apple's problem. Apple said maybe you Time Capsule is bad, so I bought a new one. The problem persists.
Tonight it's not complely wedged, but super slow. The 5GHz network is getting 0.45Mb/s while the 2.4GHz network is getting 17Mb/s. Both are coming in from the same Comcast cable modem. Apparently the Time Capsule treats them as separate.
Is it the cable modem or the Time Capsule. I am betting on the Time Capsule, since rebooting it fixes the problem. Resetting the cable modem does not.
Apple is NO HELP at all. They say reset the Time Capsule. Did that fix it? Yes. Problem solved! No, problem not solved. It will happen again in a few hours.

  • My wireless stopped working (OS Mavericks)

Yesterday, my wireless stopped working. I have a pc and the wireless is working fine. However in my macbook and ipad mini the wireless is not connected. It says the network is on but that it cannot join. Also, recently I have a "network thunderbolt bridge" message appearing. I have already tried what was suggested in this thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5498344) but it didn't work and wireless is still off.
    Does someone has any suggestion?

There is a bug with maverick os that switches off your wifi if mac detects its been idle.
I real bummer at the moment for those that purchased wifi products and are having to ethernet connect to get reliable connection to their hardware.
Write to mac on their help line and query the problem, hopefully someone will get around to fixing the problem.

  • HT4199 Problem Syncing with Itunes wirelessly but can still connect to wi-fi.

I can access wi-fi from my Iphone 4s and the internet but can't connect to itunes wirelessly to sync the phone.  Was working fine and then just stoppped. Can stilll sync when plugged in but can't use certain apps that require wireless syncing only.

First connect your iPhone to your computer, click on iPhone than check mark "Sync using Wi-Fi. There your problem is fixed. Make sure your computer and iPhone is connected to the same network.

  • HT1178 Do I want to create a new wireless network or join my current network?  I can't connect an ethernet cable to the Mac / printer and to the wireless modem at same time - in two different rooms.

I am trying to set up Time Capsule so that I can do my first backup (after 1 1/2 years!) with Time Machine.  I have read other forums, but in each case they instructions eventually do not apply.
I have connected my TC to my existing wireless router.  This sits in a bedroom and cannot be moved as a rental home.
I have plugged in the TC and updated the software.
Now - do I want to A Create a New Wireless Network (remember I can't connect the TC to Mac using an Ethernet cable). B Replace an existing base station or wireless router with TC (only intend to use for TM as don't know other benefits as of yet). or C want TC to join current network.
Thinking C.  If I choose C, it then asks A TC to wireless join current network (NO as already connected using Ethernet). B want to connect TC to my network using Ethernet to extend my existing wireless network. C want to disable the wireless network on this TC and connect it to my computer or network using Ethernet - CANNOT do this as devices can not be in the same room.
Or do I want to create new wireless network - first set of questions - choice A?  What is the benefit to creating a new one when I won't be in this rental house for longer than 18 more months??
    Please help and quickly!  Thanks!

    Let me suggest some things.
But first ask exactly what wireless router you have now and what type of broadband service?
Are you happy with the wireless on the current router? If so, then you can plug the TC straight into whatever computer you have by ethernet, short 1M cord with no connection to the network. And use it without affecting your existing network at all. This is trivial setup.
Although you don't say exactly what Mac and printer you are using, is it a desktop? Laptop it is definitely easier not to plug it in, but a desktop you can plug in the TC and it will all sit happily together.
How is the printer connected and to what?
I am not sure why you need such quick help.. this is all minor setup stuff.. and 18months in todays world is like permanent man.
Your multiple A, B, C are more confusing than helpful.
The best choices without more info.. are to replace the existing wireless router with the TC. ie your option B.. but how to do this depends on the type of connection. Is it cable or adsl? Can you easily bridge the existing modem router.. if that is what it is?
Think carefully in the ideal world what would you like..
    and what do you have..
We can probably suggest ways and means to fit what you like to what you have.. without introducing a stack of options that are doing your head in.

  • I have an iPhone 4 still running 6.1.3 software.  A few days ago it stopped working through my car's USB connection.  How can this be fixed?

I have an iPhone 4 still running 6.1.3 software.  A few days ago it stopped working through my car's USB connection (I have a 2010 Honda Civic Hybrid).  I can no longer control my music through my car's stereo system.  I am unable to choose what song, album, playlist, etc. to be played and cannot skip songs.  When I try to skip, it reverts back to the first song.  When I choose what to be played directly on my phone, it can only be played for about 30 seconds through my car's stereo system before it stops and displays the message "Unsupported Version."  How can this be fixed?  (Also, I know it is my iPhone and not my car because someone I know has the same exact car as me from 2009 and it did the same thing on theirs.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  This problem is extremely frustrating and the alternative of trying to change music directly on my phone while driving is a risk I am not willing to consider.  Thanks!

Alright, sorry for not having browsed this page a bit more before stating my question. I have just found some other similar topics on this problem. Please don't reply this thread unless there actually is a solution to the problem, because at current time there is not.
