GAAP reporting implications for US-owned Australian company

Hi,
I work for an Australian company which has recently been privatised, with 50% now being owned by a US investment company.
We suspect now that we may need to provide Financial reporting information which complies with the GAAP requirements on behalf of the American Investment company.
Is anyone able to provide any background information or feedback or hints on what we may expect in relation to needing to provide information accorinding to the GAAP requirements?  Any information, such as standard reports in SAP, or processes or features in SAP which fulfill these reporting requirements would be appreciated.
We run SAP version 4.6c (SD, FI, CO, MM, Purchasing).
Thanks
Kevin

The standard SAP functionality addressing the issues of multiple accounting standards and reporting requirement is parallel ledger functionality. This is with the ECC 6.0 version.
You may need to first upgrade from 4.6 to ECC 6.0 and then go for the functional upgrade implementing the New GL functionality with parallel ledger addressing this issue.
However , the other option is to have the additional general ledger accounts for US GAAP specifc accounting entries in the areas of difference from Australian GAAP.

  • Sarbanes-Oxley implications for US-owned Australian Company

    Hi,
    I work for an Australian company which has recently been privatised, with 50% now being owned by a US investment company.
    We suspect now that we may need to provide information relating to compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) on behalf of the American Investment company.
    I have found some helpful introductory material/reading/articles/documents etc. which has provided me with an overview of what areas may be impacted by SOX.
    Is anyone able to provide any further background information or feedback or hints on what we may expect in relation to needing to comply with the SOX requirements?  Any information, such as reports in SAP, or processes or features in SAP which ensure compliance would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    Pl check up if your US holding company is SOX compliant;in such case your firm needs to be sox audited,otherwise no.
    Pl work with your Assurance and the Audit department.
    In arriving at a decision if a firm is SOX hit or not,you need a professional opinion from the right kind of people.

  • Implication for keeping one Company Code

    Hi All,

    Over here Germany is main office and all other countries are branches of Germany. Now there are into non SAP. Only Germany has sale and purchase authority of on behalf of Spain, France and Switzerland  and their customer and vendors are in Germany company code. And Sweden has its own sales and purchase. Also all the asset which are purchased in Spain France countries belongs to Germany. Now We are doing rollout for these countries and having MM,SD, FI (AP,AR,  Asset,  Cost center accounting, Profit center Accounting and Profitability Analysis)
    My client wants to go for one company code i.e Germany so all the purchase and sale of Sweden will come under Germany company code. And Sweden has its local currency as Krona.
    Now what will be implication or disadvantage on Chart of Account, B/S, P and L, Currency Reporting, Foreign Currency Evaluation, Intrastat reporting, TAX ect.

    hi....
    You may define profit centers and company codes independently of each another.
    In a company code, you can assign transactions to one or more business areas.
    you can post a business area to several company codes and use it for cross-company-code
    reporting.
    so its possibe  that one business area being used for more than one company code

    I noticed on a link found here that if you do so you lose the ability to have a slideshow......will this effect the ability for a person to click on a picture to advance to the next picture?
    I have tried phpalbum and looked at gallery program but I dont know scripting or programming so I am lost there.....iweb photo album page seems the best way to go.
    Any advice would be helpful!!!

    Hi PB,
    That's not true. It maybe was using iWeb '06 but not iWeb '08. Just create your photopage, go to file=>publish to a folder, upload the resulting files to your server using your FTP application and you're done.
    Everything works: slideshow, pictures overview, single picture.
    I'm uploading my site to non .mac, have a look at this photo page:

    An alternative would be using SimpleViewer which is really easy to use too, have a look at point 3 for examples

  • Using AE(htmldb 2.0)  as for reporting tool for other oracle databases.

    Maybe I was mistaken, but when I first saw the HTMLDB demo's I saw this as a slick way to build a browser based reporting tool for the masses for quasi-ad-hoc reporting on some of our larger databases that currently have limited reporting capability, and also as a possible replacement for the many MSAccess applets we have.
    I just got 2.0 installed and working on a 9i database and went through the basic tutorials, but I can't find much info on how to connect to other oracle databases.
    Are my options as follows?:
    create dblinks from the local database that houses htmldb to all the other databases?
    or
    install htmldb schemas on each database I want to access from htmldb?
    or
    I'll keep looking, but if any of you have any pointers or know of a tutorial that explains the best way to do this it would be greatly appreciated!
    tia

    As for question 1, yep, that's what I mean. Example:
    In a schema in the App Express instance, create a user called "APP1_USER", and then
    create view app1_user.people as select * from people@link_user@remotedb
    As for the next question, using the built-in insert/update/delete processes will give you
    ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column
    among other errors. Apparently version 2.1 will fix this. See Cannot Update VARCHAR column in Remote DB
    We address this problem by creating pl/sql APIs for DML, and then writing our own insert/update processes. Slows us down a little, but even with that, App Express remains a productive choice for us.
    Another weird problem: auto-row fetch (built-in to HTML DB) doesn't work over db links when you have two columns for a primary key. Many ways around this, e.g. create sequence-populated primary key, create a view with single column that concatenates primary key column values (key1|key2)
    Hope this helps!

    Hi
    i am sending you a sample of how to createa report in report painter follow it,
    Main Steps in Creating a Report Using Report Painter
    The illustration below shows the main steps in creating a report with Report Painter:
    In this section, you learn how to create a Profit Center Accounting (PCA) report with Report Painter.
    For these sample reports, you should focus on the tables that correspond to the SAP application areas with which you are working. The examples shown in this section have been created in Release 4.6C.
    Sample Report for Gross Profit Margin
    Bungee Corporation wants to use Report Painter to create a gross margin report. This Profit Center Accounting report uses data table GLPCT. The desired PCA report displays the gross margin for each profit center.
    Below is an illustration of the completed gross margin report.
    Prerequisites to Creating a Report with Report Painter
    Before you can create a report with Report Painter, you need to:
    •     Determine the table
    •     Find the library
    •     Create sets
    •     Create variables
    The following sections explain these prerequisites.
    Determine the Table
    Before you can start creating the report, you must decide on the table you need to use. In this example, we use table GLPCT in Profit Center Accounting.
    Find the Library
    Determine the library you want to use for the desired table.
    If you need to create a library, on the SAP Easy Access screen, either:
    •     From the navigation menu, choose SAP menu → Information systems → Ad hoc reports → Report painter → Report Writer → Library → Create.
    •     In the Command field, enter transaction GR21 and choose  .
    In our example, we use existing library 8A2 for creating a report.
    Create Sets
    Create the required sets for your report. To create a set, on the SAP Easy Access screen, either:
    •     From the navigation menu, choose SAP menu → Information systems → Ad hoc reports → Report painter → Report Writer → Set → Create.
    •     In the Command field, enter transaction GS01 and choose  .
    Note that this procedure is not necessary for creating the report given in the example that follows.
    Create Variables
    Create any variables for the fields that must be entered before the report is executed. To create a variable, on the SAP Easy Access screen, either:
    •     From the navigation menu, choose SAP menu → Information systems → Ad hoc reports → Report painter → Report Writer → Variable → Create.
    •     In the Command field, enter transaction GS11 and choose  .
    Note that this procedure is not necessary for the sample report in the next section.
    Creating a Report with Report Painter
    When you are ready to create the report using Report Painter, use the following steps.
    Example Task: Creating a report using Report Painter
    1.     On the SAP Easy Access screen, either:
    o     From the navigation menu, choose: SAP menu → Information systems → Ad hoc reports → Report painter → Report → Create.
    o     In the Command field, enter transaction GRR1 and choose  .
    2.     On the Report Painter: Create Report screen:
    a.     In Library, enter the name of the library to be used for the report (for this example, 8A2).
    b.     In the Report, enter a name for your report and a short text description.
    c.     Choose Create.
    1.
    To help you better understand how to create a report in Report Painter, the next procedures explain the varying substeps. You can either:
    o     Define the rows (or rows with a formula)
    o     Define the columns (or columns with a formula)
    o     Define the general data selection
    Define Rows
    Example Task: Defining rows (including defining a row with a formula)
    To start defining the rows, on the Report Painter: Create Report screen, double click on Row
    On the Element definition: Row1 dialog box:
    a.     To include characteristics in the first row of the report, select the desired characteristics in the Available characteristics frame (for example, Account number)
    b.     Use  to transfer the chosen characteristic to the Selected characteristics frame.
    c.     In From, enter the account number(s) you want to include in the row definition. Either enter to and from values or a group set (for example, the value 800000).
    d.     To enter the row heading, choose
    On the Text maintenance dialog box:
    a.     In Short, enter the desired short text (for example, Revenue).
    b.     To copy the short text into the Medium and Long text fields, choose Copy short text.
    c.     To continue, choose
    On the Element definition: Row1 dialog box:
    a.     To check if the selection is correct, choose  Check.
    b.     To transfer the selection to the row 1 definition, choose Confirm.
    You have now defined the first row.
    To define the second row for costs, on the Report Painter: Create Report screen, double-click on Row 2.
    On the Select element type dialog box:
    a.     Select Characteristics.
    b.     Choose
    On the Element definition Row 2 dialog box:
    a.     To include characteristics in the second row of the report, select the desired characteristics in the Available characteristics frame (for example, Account number)
    b.     Use  to transfer the chosen characteristic to the Selected characteristics frame.
    c.     In From and To, enter the account number(s) you want to include in the row definition (for example, 400000 and 490000).
    d.     To enter the row heading, choose
    On the Text maintenance dialog box:
    a.     In Short, enter the desired short text (for example, Costs).
    b.     Choose Copy short text to copy the short text into the Medium and Long text fields.
    c.     To continue, choose
    On the Report Painter: Create Report screen:
    a.     You can now choose to add further rows with other required characteristics. In this example, you can create a formula in the third row.
    b.     Double-click on Row 3.
    On the Select element type screen:
                       a. Select Formula as the row element type.
                       b. Choose
    On the Enter Formula screen:
    a.     Enter the formula for Row 3. You can either type it in or use your mouse and the formula components buttons. If you type the formula, do not forget the spaces. In this example, Y001 and Y002 represent Revenue and Costs respectively.
    b.     To check the correctness of the formula, choose  Check.
    c.     Choose
    On the resulting Text maintenance dialog box:
    a.     In Short field, enter the text for the formula field (for example, Gross Marg).
    b.     In Medium and Long fields, enter the required text (for example, Gross Margin).
    c.     Choose  .
    You have now defined three rows (Revenue, Costs, and Gross Margin).
    Define Columns
    Example Task: Defining columns
    On the Report Painter: Create Report screen, double-click on the first column, Column 1.
    On the Select Element Type (not shown) dialog box:
    a.     Select Key Figure with characteristics.
    b.     Choose  .
    On the Element definition: Column 1 dialog box:
    c.     In the Basic Key figure field, use the dropdown to select Amount in company code curr.
    d.     In the Available Characteristics frame, select the desired characteristic for column 1 (for example, Fiscal Year).
    If you want to be prompted for the fiscal year at the time of running the report, you must make this a variable instead of a value.
    e.     Choose  to move the desired characteristic to the selected characteristics frame (for example, Fiscal year).
    f.     Place your cursor in the From value field and select the checkbox to the left under  (variable on/off).
    g.     To view the possible entries for the From field, choose  .
    h.     From the resulting selection dialog box:
         Select a variable from the list of available variables (for example, CYear).
         Choose  .
    i.     On the Element definition dialog box, choose  .
    j.     On the resulting Text maintenance dialog box:
         In Short, enter a text for the column header (for example, Curr Year).
         To copy the short text to Medium and Long text fields, choose the Copy short text button.
         Choose  .
    Now you have defined the column 1 for your report.
    k.     Back on the Element definition dialog box, choose Confirm.
    On the Report Painter: Create Report screen, define column 2 and all other columns you choose to define. You can define these columns either by:
    o     Repeating steps for column 1
    o     Copying columns
    o     Entering a formula that calculates the difference between columns (for example, between Current Year and Prior Year [variable is Pyear] in a column called Variance)
    Adding a column or formula is similar to adding a row formula. After defining the rows and the columns, the screen would appear as follows.
    General Data Selection
    After you define the rows and columns, define the general data selection screen for the report.
    Example Task: Defining the general data selection screen for the report
    1.     On the Report Painter: Create Report screen, from the menu bar, choose Edit → General data selection.
    2.     On the Element definition: General data selection screen:
    a.     From the Available characteristics frame, select the fields to add to the general data selection as shown.
    b.     Choose  to move the selections into the Selected characteristics frame.
    c.     Enter the values for each field. (For example, the standard ledger for PCA is 8A to 8E and the U.S. company code in IDES is 3000. This example is a year-to-date report, so all 12 periods are in the range. The standard Version in PCA is 0, the Record type for actual dollars is 0, and CO is 2000).
    d.     To check the selections, choose  Check.
    e.     To create the definition for the general data selection for the report, choose Confirm.
          3.   On the Report Painter: Change Report screen:

    b.     Choose  .
    2.     On the Create report group dialog box, choose Yes to create and assign to a new report group.
    Display and Execute the Report
    Example Task: Displaying the report you created in the previous steps
    1.     On the SAP Easy Access screen, either:
    o     From the navigation menu, choose: SAP menu → Information systems → Ad hoc reports → Report painter → Report → Display.
    o     In the Command field, enter transaction GRR3 and choose  .
    2.     On the Report Painter: Display Report screen:
    a.     Double-click on your report.
    b.     Review the report display.
    c.     To execute the report, from the application toolbar, choose execute.
    On the Selection screen:
    a.     Enter the variables used to execute the report (for example, Current Year 2000 and Last Fiscal Year as 1999).
    b.     On the application toolbar, choose execute.
    The report appears. You have successfully created a report in Report Painter.
    You can also execute the report through the report group (for example, ZTGR).
    1.     On the SAP Easy Access screen, choose SAP menu → Information systems → Ad hoc reports → Report Painter → Report Writer → Report group → Execute or in the Command field, enter transaction GR55 and choose
    2.     On the Execute Report Group: Initial Screen:
    o     In Report Group, use  to select a report group.
    o     Choose  .
    3.     On the next screen, enter appropriate values and choose  .
    4.     On the next screen, from the menu bar, choose:
    o     Settings → Column attributes to change the column attributes such as changing the column width, setting the scaling factor, and setting decimal place numbering for number display.
    o     Settings → Summation levels to specify a range of summation levels for which totals will display.
    o     Settings → Print page format to change the layout of the report output.
    5.     To transfer the report to Microsoft Excel or Lotus 123, from the application toolbar, choose  .
    6.     On the Options dialog box, select the radio button of your choice and choose  . Note that for the report to open in Microsoft Excel or Lotus 123, you need to have these applications installed on your PC.
    7.     To get back to the original display of the report, select Inactive on the Options dialog box.
    Understanding the Report List
    After executing a Report Painter report, several additional functions can be applied to the output to make your reports as meaningful as possible. You can:
    •     Sort on each column.
    •     Highlight rows that meet the threshold criteria, for example any amount greater than 6,000.
    •     Drill down from any line item. Drilling down you can access ABAP programs, transaction codes, SAP Queries, drilldown reports, or other Report Painter and Report Writer reports.
    •     Launch SAP Graphics.
    •     Send the report through SAP mail.
    •     Save as an extract to be brought up later.
    •     Expand and collapse rows.
    •     Change the layout settings.
    •     Display the report in Microsoft Excel with office integration.
    hope this gives you an idea, and send me an email to [email protected] i will send you a doc on it,
    if this was helpful then assign points ..
    regards

  • Need Standard report layout for Benefits

    Hi,
    Can anyone send me the standard report layout for benefits which is already generated.
    Thanks,
    Lakshmi

    Do you want a enrollment letter or a confirmation letter ? They are all there in the IMG as templates. Just copy it and design your own. No two businesses use the same format so sending you ours will be as good as you doing some work on the SAP delivered examples.

    Numbers does not have anything specifically called an event registration template.  There are several options:
    1) search using your favorite search engine (google found quite a few hits when I searched using "Event Registration Template"
    2) build your own in Numbers
    Option (2) shouldn't be too difficult.
    It could look something like:

  • How to set a report culture for number and date

    Hi,
    Is there a way to change the report locale for the number and date?
    I've tried using both CrystalDecisions.Share.SharedUtils.RequestLCID and CrystalReportViewer.SetProductLocale and neither work
    The only one that work is to use the Thread.Culture. But that also change the application culture, not just the report.
    Anyone have a solution?
    Thank

    Hi Michel,
    I don't believe you can do this within just the report itself but I haven't played with this very much. Because the App hosts the Viewer it's based on it's culture.
    You should be able to mix if you create a separate thread for each report job that way they are in their own space.
    Search the Object browser on celocale and you'll find more info. Also the SDK help file should have examples.
    No API's to use the Engine, had to use RAS.
    Need to know what version you are using also and WEB or Windows app?
    Here are some samples using RAS:
    rpt1.ReportClientDocument.LocaleID = CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataDefModel.CeLocale.ceLocaleGerman;
    CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataDefModel.CrFieldDisplayNameTypeEnum.crFieldDisplayNameFormula, CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataDefModel.CeLocale.ceLocaleUserDefault);
    And using this way you may have to alter every object in the report.
    Thanks

  • Is crystal reports correct for me / my needs?

    i'm wondering if crystal reports is correct for my needs.  i don't mind investing the time / money to figure this out, but i really can't waste any time so i thought i'd ask the question first
    is crystal reports correct for my needs?
    some detail of my needs:
    1.  the report would be similar to an IKEA catalog: lots of pictures, different layouts (so different reports merged into one). reports need to "look bitchin'". needs to be "printer ready" in regards to size, crop lines, page numbers, etc.  my main concern here is basically "how limiting is crystal reports in data placement on the page"?
    2.  the data would come from a relatively large db (MS SQL, Oracle, mySQL, and maybe others).  size: about 40 million record main table, with supporting tables (i.e., relational). the db is not encrypted and is accessible if you have the main password.
    3.  i would like to send the reports to something like PDF, but also to excel and text file.
    4.  i would like to offer the reports to my clients as part of my own software package, so hopefully this consists of an .exe file only (no updates required, etc).
    i would prefer to talk to a live person about this, or ideally see a quick demo of what is possible with crystal reports.  is this possible?

    Hello,
    Pictures can be a problem, they take up a lot of report space. I assume your pictures are in the database? Large reports get very large quickly with pictures ( ole object ).
    What you could do is download the trial version of CR 2008 and the sample reports:
    Go to this link: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc and download the trial version of CR XI R2 and use your XI keycode, then apply the patches which you can get to by clicking on the BusinessObjects tab above, then Downloads.
    Direct link to the Trial version: http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/sme/freetrials/index.epx
    I also suggest you call Sales, they can send you links for demo's etc.

  • Can't find the edit option for my own wiki content.

    I can't find Edit option for my own wiki document..
    I've created a wiki yesterday How to update Assignment field in FBL*N report - ERP Financials - SCN Wiki
    At the time all images are visible.. But now, I only can see the images. I got a report from other user, that they can't able to see the images..
    I log out from my account, then I see, Images are not visible in this content..
    I can't find the edit button..

    You have hotlinked the (jive scn.sap) images in wiki. This is not the correct way to embed images.
    The image needs to be first uploaded there(atlassian wiki.scn.sap), and then embed to wiki page.
    I believe you are able to see the image because they are hosted on scn.sap, you are logged in, and the images are part of your "draft" space.
    When your access issue with wiki is being corrected. also get access to upload images in wiki.
    There are tutorials available on how to embed images to new wiki platform.

  • Allow users to create reports based on their own selection of fields

    Is there a way to allow users to create reports based on their own selection of fields?
    And if there is a way, then how?
    In access we retrieve all demographic info on one screen and on another screen user can be able to choose specific fields from a list box to import data into file.

    Hi,
    This can be handled in various ways - but the principles are the same.
    You need to apply conditional displays to all of the columns that your user can select and base the display of a column on the value of a field on the page.
    You can have a series of Yes/No options - one for each field and base the display on the corresponding field being Yes. Or you can use checkboxes.
    However, if you wish to use a multiselect list (which is probably easier as you can dynamically generate the list of field names), you will need to have hidden fields that will store either Y/N or 1/0 (I use ones/zeros) and have the conditional displays watch these fields instead. Populating these hidden fields is a bit more tricky than just having fields on the page that the user can control, but is doable:
    1 - Create one hidden field for each field in the report that you want to show/hide. Put these fields in the same region as the select list in a region above the report
    2 - Set conditional display values to "Value of Item in Expression 1 = Expression 2" and use the appropriate hidden field for Expression 1 and in Expression 2 enter in 1
    3 - Create a page process that runs on submit, and create PL/SQL code something like:
    DECLARE
    lFields HTMLDB_APPLICATION_GLOBAL.VC_ARR2;
    vField VARCHAR2(1000);
    BEGIN
    :P31_SHOW_EMPNO := 0;
    :P31_SHOW_ENAME := 0;
    :P31_SHOW_JOB := 0;
    :P31_SHOW_MGR := 0;
    :P31_SHOW_HIREDATE := 0;
    :P31_SHOW_SAL := 0;
    :P31_SHOW_COMM := 0;
    :P31_SHOW_DEPTNO := 0;
    lFields := HTMLDB_UTIL.STRING_TO_TABLE(:P31_FIELDS);
    FOR i IN lFields.FIRST..lFields.LAST LOOP
    vField := lFields(i);
    IF vField = 'EMPNO' THEN
    :P31_SHOW_EMPNO := 1;
    ELSIF vField = 'ENAME' THEN
    :P31_SHOW_ENAME := 1;
    ELSIF vField = 'JOB' THEN
    :P31_SHOW_JOB := 1;
    ELSIF vField = 'MGR' THEN
    :P31_SHOW_MGR := 1;
    ELSIF vField = 'HIREDATE' THEN
    :P31_SHOW_HIREDATE := 1;
    ELSIF vField = 'SAL' THEN
    :P31_SHOW_SAL := 1;
    ELSIF vField = 'COMM' THEN
    :P31_SHOW_COMM := 1;
    ELSIF vField = 'DEPTNO' THEN
    :P31_SHOW_DEPTNO := 1;
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    END;
    4 - Finally, add a button that generates the report - this just needs to submit the page and branch back to the same page
    I've used the standard EMP table for this example and my hidden fields are P31_SHOW_fieldname. The code resets the hidden fields to 0, checks if the user has selected the field from the list (P31_FIELDS) and changes the hidden fields value to 1 for all those selected. When the page is re-rendered, the report hides the columns where the hidden field value is 0 and displays those where it is 1. The export option will then only export those fields that are displayed.
    You can see an example of this here:
