Gamers, question about graphics

Okay so I'm a big gamer and this iPhone is seriously awesome and rivals the PSP (if not surpasses it, i've only played it once but I read a lot of iphone > psp). My xbox 360 got the ring of red lights, so that's that
I notice that Apple says that the 3d graphics are improved (as well as processor, RAM, and such). However, I realize that game makers will need to satisfy their games for both the 3G and 3GS. I highly doubt that game makers will risk $$$ and only launch a slightly better looking/running game on the 3GS.
Do you think the focus of this "updated graphics" is basically to make the games run better overall? On my 3G, I know The Sims 3 would crash on me, and continuously got worse. Also, the sims ran pretty choppy when lots of things were happening at one time. Need for speed Undercover ran pretty smooth on my 3G, with slight hiccups.
They weren't lying, the 3GS does run my Sims 3 better. It's overall more smooth.
I'm excited to try out Firestorm Real Racing. Looks so neat, about like Gran Turismo 3 on PS2!

Yeah there are already pics/videos that show that the new iPhone 3G S has been underclocked:
"It runs at 600MHz, just as T-Mobile let slip last week, but according to Samsung’s spec sheet it can run at up to 833MHz and its native speed is 667MHz. This means that Apple is underclocking, presumably for better battery life."

  • A question about Graphics repaint

    hi all. I met a question about Graphics repaint
    I create mypane class extends JPane .
    Now I write a function to keep drawing a char at Screen when i resize my applet.
    the function code :
    bDrawChrToScr(Graphics2D bgr, char Chr,int iX,int iY,int iX1,int iY1)
    bgr.setColor(Color.black);
    bgr.fillRect(iX,iY,iX1,iY);
    bgr.setColor(Color.red);
    bgr.drawString(String.valueOf(Chr),iWidth,iHeight);
    bgr=thispane.getGraphics();
    and i call this function in paintcomponent .Now when i resize my applet ,i find it not work as my hope.
    the screen flash two. First it draw this char but sencond it erase it.Why? Thanks

    The super.paintComponent(g) method causes the default painting to occur - overriding you bDrawChrToScr() method. Therefore, change paintComponent() method to:
    super.paintComponent(g);
    bDrawChrToScr(...);

  • Sattelite 1410-question about Graphic Card

    I've bought a Sattelite 1410-401 and i'm having quite some troubles with my graphic card, with moving images i can see black spots flickering through the image (no problems with stills however) ( i have downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers) wich is pretty annoying.
    I'm also annoyed by the fact this graphic card doesn't support Pixel shader and that it only has 16MB RAM (not shared) my question(s) is(/are): Is there a way to get rid of those pesky black pixels and is there a way to replace or upgrade my video card?

    Hello
    I dont think that the black spots are a fault of a graphic card.
    You say that you use the nVidia graphic driver. This is not correct. You should use the original Toshiba graphic driver or this unit. This you can find on the Toshiba website. Sometimes for watching some avi or mpeg files your need a different codex. You can find many informtions about this theme.
    Furthermore you can change primary parts (memory, hdd) on you unit but its impossible to replace the graphic card.
    Bye

  • Question about graphics card and motherboard

    My laptop is a dv6500 CTO. I have the geforce 8400M GS video/graphics card in my laptop. Recently I was playing a game and my computer locked up. I restarted my computer and had a message from Windows 7 saying my graphics card stopped working. I than checked my device manager and it said the card was working properly. Well now it dies if I am watching a video, playing any game it lasts for about 5 mins.
    I than went to the device manager and disable my card. Before my card was disabled, I was still able to loud windows fine. This is where I have my biggest question. If I disable my card, than why is it that I can still use my computer? Does the motherboard have a small chipset for video besides the graphics card? Is this graphics card welded on the motherboard or can I replace it?
    I always thought on laptops the graphics card was part of the motherboard and if it went out than my screen would go out and that would be the end of it. Is that not true? Thanks for the help.

    Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion p6-2371ea Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model shipped with Windows 8 and a 300 watt power supply. To use the GTX 650 Ti you will need to upgrade the power supply to a 500 watt or 600 watt unit. The Corsair CX500 and CX600 are known to fir most HP comsumer desktop computer cases and come highly recommended. The next thing you need to do is DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the BIOS. Doing these things should resolve your issue.

  • Question about  Graphics Cards for Adobe and more

    Hello, for technical people I'll start by listing some relevant computer info:    Asus P9x79Pro Motherboard . Nvidia Quadro 4000 2GB . Windows 7 . Adobe CS6
    I have a workstation PC and have been considering ways to improve it. I'm pretty happy with both Memory and Processor, so now I'm looking at the Graphics Card. I got the Quadro specifically because it was listed on Premiere's list of Mercury Accelerated Playback cards. I have no real issues with it, but I'm wondering if I'm getting everything I can out of it. I also use Resolve often and occasionally Maya, but not often. Sometimes these other programs feel sluggish. I'd like a set up that is most optimal for Adobe PPro and AE, but is also good for Resolve. I'm less worries about Maya.
    My motherboard can support 4 GPU's, but I've never had more than 1 before. I'm curious how to go about it.  What sort of advantages will I get with a second GPU, how will this help me? Since I have a Quadro, should I get another Quadro? Should I run them SLI or run them independently? I've also been looking at the GTX Series, would those be preferable? If so, how should I set up my system, run monitors off 1 and use the other as a GPU boost? I really don't know enough about multi-GPU set ups, and I can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for, so any and all help is appreciated.
    Thank you

  • T430S questions about graphic card

    as you see ,there 3 different graphic cards to choose for your laptop.Now i'm so curious about the first one—N13M NS,which I have never heard of this before.Someone told me it's similar to HD4000 or GT610`````
    But why the second choice is HD4000 but the price is higher than the first,whether it is just because of the SSD?~~~
    Than, i am a student in design ,i often use PS Ai and Axure. i wonder whether N13M-NS is benefit for this kind of design softwares,and how many degree it can express ,as same as Gt630?when you use it for graphic design?

    I think there are 2 graphics options, integrated (Intel) and discrete (nVIDIA Optimus).  I think the first and 3rd ones have the same chip and they are described inconsistantly.  The 2nd machine listed is more expensive than the first because of the SSD and a faster CPU. The 3rd is faster than the 2nd for similar reason (CPU, more memory and bigger SSD). I don't know much about the applications you are running, but in general, integrated graphics (like the middle ones) use less power (longer battery life), run cooler, but don't do well on full-motion video (like games). If your applications are doing 2D design, I doubt you could tell the difference. If you build 3D models and go through processes like rotations, the discrete models are better. The SSD will be mostly noticable in faster startup times, although if you store a lot of big files like pictures and videos, the platter-style disks have more space.

  • Some questions about graphic

    I am currently creating a tile-based map.
    Actually, I am trying to use Bitmap class to draw the tiles
    to the offscreen buffer. However, it seems that the help document
    only described how to load an image from external file but I want
    the image to be included in the swf.
    So my first question is how to load image from Library to
    Bitmap class.
    After a 30mins on thinking and searching and still don't know
    how to do it. I decide to clone the movie clip to first preview the
    map. But AS3 no longer use duplicateMovieClip() so I spend another
    30mins on thinking and searching but still didn't find any clue...
    My second question is how to clone MovieClip in AS3.

    give it a class name (which will be a subclass of the
    bitmapdata class) and then use the new constructor to create an
    instance of it.
    you'll need to create a bitmap of your bitmapdata object so
    you can add it to the display list.

  • 2 questions about graphics.drawLine

    1) Is there a way to specify the width of the line (such as in openGL)? I am drawing a grid, and I want the major tick lines to be thicker and bolder... I know the dirty way around this is to draw two lines a pixel apart, but I was wondering if java had any support for this.
    2) Is there a built in method to draw dashed lines? I was looking in the BasicGraphicsUtils class, while it had useful methods, I didn't find anything which did this....
    thanks in advance!

    1) I strongly suggest you use fillRect() instead of drawLine(). Since your grid is (presumably) straight, it's A LOT cheaper to do a memory fill than it is to do the calculation to draw a line. I was doing nearly exactly the same thing today and found that drawing 100 rectangles (grid dots) took around 80ms on a crappy laptop, while filling the 1024x768 background rectangle took under 10ms. Those measurements were taken using System.currentTimeMillis() which has only 10ms resolution on WinXP.
    Plus, if you use fillRect() instead of drawLine(), you can specify widths easier by making a bigger rectangle. There is some nagging border and rectangle dimension issues, but you can fix those by adding 1 to dimensions I think.
    2) You're looking for Stroke in the Graphics2D class. I have a nagging suspicion this will be really slow though, since it's doing a drawLine() call. You could look at some line-drawing algorithms, but they're actually pretty gnarly.
    If you don't have to update your screen very often, the speed issues I talked about may not matter to you at all. They killed me.
    Good luck.

  • Question About Graphics Card Compatibility

    I have the HP p6-2101 that I use primarily for gaming. I was looking to upgrade my graphics card to the EVGA GeForce GTX Ti FTW edition, and I was just wondering how I could make sure it was compatible. Thanks!

    Hi, There isn't any sure way to determine if a specific graphics card other than the HP OEM certified cards for your PC will work. The reality is that there is no guarantee that any particular graphics card will work in any particular PC even if the graphics card works in other PCs or even the same or similar model PCs. Know what the return policy is before you buy. Most of the newer graphics cards require that you PC runs the HP version 8 BIOS. There is a version 7.23 BIOS update available for your PC but I don't think it will help if you want to use the NVIDIA GTX 7xx ot 9xx graphics cards. ZOTAC sells some GTX series graphics cards that are compatible back to PCI-E 1.1 and these card may work with when match with the appropriate power supply. Contact Zotac for a recommendation and know what the return policy is before you buy.

  • Question about graphics cards for Equium L40 - 10X

    Hi - new to this but really hacked off so hopefully someone can help me.!
    I bought a Equium L40 - 10X in August and thought it was good for what I wanted, especially after seeking advice and speaking to 'an expert' at my local pcworld.
    However, I think the graphics card is not good enough to support the games I have got - Medal of Honour Warchest, Hitman Triple Pack and Call of Duty 2. They all sem to recommend a nVidia graphics card as a minimum requirement. The card in the laptop is an Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family (I think) and the OS is Vista Home Premium.
    Problems I am experiencing include loss of graphics and stuttering during play.
    Can I upgrade to an nVidia graphics card or is the one I have got sufficient but I just need to change some settings?
    Haven't got a clue really, so help would be much appreciated!

    > I bought a Equium L40 - 10X in August and thought it was good for what I wanted, especially after seeking advice and speaking to 'an expert' at my local pcworld.
    Either you was not clear enough or the expert from pcworld have provided the wrong information and wrong advice.
    Fact is that the Intel shared GPU was not really designed to play the newest games.
    The shared graphic card is simply not powerful enough to run such games smoothly!
    > Can I upgrade to an nVidia graphics card or is the one I have got sufficient but I just need to change some settings?
    NO, this is not possible because the notebooks graphic cards are fixed on the board and cannot be removed.

  • Question about graphics card driver updates on Satellite U300 Series

    I am trying to install Spyder2 Pro onto Vista home premium 32bit, however I am having problems with it loading onto CS2. I contacted Colorvision and they suggested if the Video Card was more than 6 months old I would need the latest update. I have searched the toshiba/intel websites and have been unable to update this, when I download them and try to install it says I have the most up to date version, this being 7.14.10.1263.
    Can anyone help!

    Thanks for the reply Dennis. I downloaded the driver and when I tried to open it I got "+an error saying the driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer's manufacturer+" When I try to update it in device manager it tells me that I have the most up to date driver installed.
    I'm not really surprised, as I have had nothing but trouble with Vista since I got the new laptop three months ago. Just wish now I hadn't got rid of my old computer, which was run by xp. I do a lot of pictures and the video card on vista will not allow me to set the contrast to the max setting, which I need to be able to do. You then set it using adobe gamma. However vista or the intel graphics will not allow this. I then got the spyder2 pro, which didnt work. Colorvision said if the driver was more than six months, I needed to update it.
    This, it seems is not as easy as you would think. Very frustrating actually. Wish I had of put the extra few hundred towards an Apple mac!
    Thanks for the help

  • General questions about graphics(resolution, colors, Images)

    1. Is it possible in java to change the screen resolution with some method?
    2. Is it possible to change color mode(16bit, 32bit) with some method in java, and if so is there a point in doing so?
    3. If you make an application with a "background" with an Image or BufferedImage on a canvas and want to plot moving things(other images) on it without painting over the background.
    Can this be solved without recreating the Image say 30-40 times a second(for every frame that is) which is bad for memory consumtion?
    4. If it isn't possible, how should I give back the memory fast enough or is the garbage collector capable of fix it with say hundreds of Mb's of Images in just a second?

    Another thing that I don't understand is a tutorial on the following url:
    java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/2d/images/doublebuffering.html
    They use the following code to create a Buffered Image in an Applet
    bi = (BufferedImage)createImage(w, h);
    However, I tried typecasting with (BufferedImage) in my own swing-code below and got a runtime exception(java.lang.ClassCastException)
    bi = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage("miniferrari.jpg");
    Why?
