[gamin][hibernate]1 tasks refusing to freeze (gam_server)

Hi,
Recently (last update a week ago) I noticed that suspending my laptop to disk didn't work anymore.
Theonly clue I have is this, in dmesg : (see details below)
1 tasks refusing to freeze : gam_server
gamin was last updated on 10/20/2010, maybe this can explain that, but noone aside me having this bug seems strange.
(and nothing to be seen through my g**gle ... is always frightening)
Any idea what I could try / look for /  ?
Maybe downgrading gamin ? (if only I knew how)
thanx for any advice

  • Suspend not working, task refusing to freeze

    Hi,
I have no idea how to get to the source of the problem, so I am asking for your help.
Suspend is not working on my acer notebook (fresh archlinux (re)install). I get the "tasks refusing to freeze" message.
Journalctl tells me that alsactl is to be blamed. Didn't find anything on google, though. Here's the journalctl output:

Waiting for alsactl for 20 seconds, twice? Indeed, I have two alsactl processes. (don't know why, though)
Any ideas how to debug it?

Actually, I use the systemctl command directly. I don't have pm-utils, but I tried that already - same. And no wonder, alsactl process cannot be killed:
    bwacer /home/bw # pstree
    systemd─┬─acpid
    ├─2*[alsactl]
    bwacer /home/bw # killall alsactl
    bwacer /home/bw # killall alsactl
    bwacer /home/bw # ps -e | grep alsactl
    1247 ? 00:00:00 alsactl
    1248 ? 00:00:00 alsactl
    bwacer /home/bw # kill 1247
    bwacer /home/bw # ps -e | grep alsactl
    1247 ? 00:00:00 alsactl
    1248 ? 00:00:00 alsactl
I have no idea what these processes are doing here. It's a fresh install, I don't have pulseaudio, all I did with alsa is installed few packages (alsa-plugins, alsa-oss, libsamplerate etc) and maybe enabled power saving in laptop-mode-tools (but that worked in previous installs).

  • Multi tasking button occasionally freezes, video is totally not working

while I was playing iTunU movie re WWII, suddenly my Video gone! Till to day no way am being able to recover it. While clik, it just appears and turned to black. Any solution?
Further while changing my work station, the multitasking button freezes occasionally. Some tmes it is so irritating, why I don,t know!
    I am iPad I users,

In which case I'd add all the slates to the track and use stories to set them apart. If you want to script this then you would set up the menu buttons to go to a script which sets th audio correctly and then jumps to the correct slate, which then goes on to the track. Alternatively, your slates could 'end jump' to a script to set the audio and then go to the track - this would probably be better since the slates are all different and it would be a single script for each to jump to - keeps it tidy.
There will be small pauses between the menu, slate and track if you go with this system, but no pauses between slate and track if you add the slates to the track.

  • [SOLVED] System stuck on suspend/shutdown

    Hi guys,
I recently set up a new system with Arch Linux, and everything's working perfectly fine - except for one thing: When shutting the computer down, the system gets all the way to the end of the shutdown cycle and displays "Rebooting" - and just stays there, the computer doesn't turn off (even after almost an hour, no change). It does tell me just before that, that it failed to unmount /oldroot/dev, however, it claims to be ignoring that problem...? And everytime, just before it unmounts (or tries to at least) all the /oldroot/ stuff, it gets stuck shortly while trying to terminate some "tee" process (it eventually sends a SIGKILL signal and proceeds shortly after).
Could this maybe cause some problem when powering off? Because also when I try to suspend my system, the screen turns blank (with a blinking cursor in the top left), and shortly after it displays the message "Freezing of tasks failed after 20.005 seconds (3 tasks refusing to freeze, wq_busy=0)" and goes back to my desktop. Using dmesg, I found that, again, "tee" is the process causing problems. When I list all running processes, it displays 3 of these "tee" processes, and under CPU% it says "disk sleep" for all of them...
Here is an extract of dmesg that displays the suspend/freezing problem:

    My system:
    Linux keineeile 3.16.3-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Sep 17 21:54:13 CEST 2014 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I'm using KDE as my DE, should that matter at all... I don't have laptop-mode-tools or pm-utils installed, but I do have the powerdown scripts (though they don't seem to be working right now for me - but one thing after the other).
Any help in solving this issue(s) is very much appreciated!!
    Kindest Regards

Well, I tried it both ways, suspending from KDE and from the command line using "systemctl suspend" and "echo mem > /sys/power/state", it all produces the same result.
However, I think I have stumbled upon something in lspci:
    # lspci | grep 01:00.1
    pcilib: Cannot open /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:01:00.1/config
lspci: Unable to read the standard configuration space header of device 0000:01:00.1
There exists a device 01:00.0, though. This is my discrete radeon graphics card. Maybe it's connected to the following (?):
My laptop comes with an Intel graphics chip and a radeon graphics card. I want to use the Intel chip for powersaving and for having a cooler laptop. However, the DynPwr feature of the newest kernel (I think it was introduced in 3.15?) doesn't seem to work for me, my laptop just gets really hot. Plus the system kept freezing randomly (in such a way that I had to force turn off the laptop), which according to what I found online had something to do with NetworkManager and my radeon graphics card (I don't really understand how that's possible though). So what I did: In Grub I added "radeon.runpm=0" to the kernel line and upon logging in to KDE, I automatically execute:
    echo OFF > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
    sleep 2
    systemctl start NetworkManager
Since then I have no troubles with my laptop overheating and my system isn't freezing anymore. Since I did all that right as I set up a new system, I'm not completely sure if that's related to the laptop not suspending/shutting down anymore or not (I'll go ahead now and try reversing it and see if it works then)...
Oh, and I'm unable to remove the three "tee" processes in any way. I can't kill them, terminate them, nothing, they simply stay there...

  • Weird issue with pm-suspend and libatasmart

    Hi everyone,
i got serious problems with suspending to disk. I run an Asus F5SL Laptop and after suspension the waking up process produces an error which looks like this in the error.log:
Feb  6 19:55:32 localhost kernel: ata1: ACPI set timing mode failed (status=0x300b)
    Feb  6 19:55:32 localhost kernel: ata3.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen
Feb  6 19:55:32 localhost kernel: ata3.00: failed command: READ VERIFY SECTOR(S)
    Feb  6 19:55:32 localhost kernel: ata3.00: cmd 40/00:01:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/e0 tag 0
Feb  6 19:55:32 localhost kernel: res 40/00:00:00:4f:c2/00:00:00:00:00/00 Emask 0x4 (timeout)
    Feb  6 19:55:32 localhost kernel: ata3.00: status: { DRDY }
    Feb  6 19:55:32 localhost kernel: pm_op(): scsi_bus_resume_common+0x0/0x40 [scsi_mod] returns 134217730
Feb  6 19:55:32 localhost kernel: PM: Device 2:0:0:0 failed to resume async: error 134217730
Feb  6 19:57:32 localhost kernel: sr 0:0:0:0: timing out command, waited 120s
Feb  6 19:59:02 localhost kernel: sr 0:0:0:0: timing out command, waited 90s
Feb  6 20:00:02 localhost kernel: sr 0:0:0:0: timing out command, waited 60s
Feb  6 20:01:02 localhost kernel: sr 0:0:0:0: timing out command, waited 60s
Feb  6 20:03:02 localhost kernel: sr 0:0:0:0: timing out command, waited 120s
and if i then want to suspend again I get following message in the error.log:
localhost kernel: Freezing of tasks failed after 20.01 seconds (1 tasks refusing to freeze, wq_busy=0):
This means I can only suspend once everytime i boot up. I'm searching the internet and working around with this issue for more than one week now and the latest I found is: When I delete /usr/lib/libatasmart.so.4.0.3 and /usr/lib/libatasmart.so.4 i can suspend to disk as often as I want but i still get the error as the one above, just without the kernel timing out command.
I try to provide some more Information about my system:
The pm-suspend.log is not very informative as I use laptop-mode:
    enabled, not active
    /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/01laptop-mode resume suspend: success.
    Running hook /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/01grub resume suspend:
    /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/01grub resume suspend: success.

Removing libatasmart is not really an option for me because I use Gnome and libatasmart is necessary for automounting as I understand.
Does anyone have any advices? What else can I provide for you to understand the problem? Is it a bug and how to file it? Where can I read more about problems like this?
    Thank you for any help.

After some time I recognized that I went into the wrong direction before. I got, that my real problem is not libatasmart, but the module sr_mod which is timing out and causing ksoftirqd to run with 100% cpu-usage of one processor thread (which is very nice, because otherwise the kernel would crash because of all the soft interrupts). So I went on and removed sr_mod temporarily.
    rmmod sr_mod
This works pretty well for me since I can suspend now as much as I want and the system wakes up after all. I still get this small message:
ata1: ACPI set timing mode failed (status=0x300b)
after resume, but this seems not to be a bigger problem.
The more interesting thing is, that you can not mount CDs or DVDs if you remove sr_mod from the kernel, because that is what I think it is made for. As I still like to use this type of media, it is pretty annoying, that I can't
    modprobe sr_mod
after a resume, because than I get a lot of small soft interrupts and sr_mod is timing out again.
Btw: I use a laptop with a SIS 966 chipset. Might that cause all the trouble? Can anyone think of any further reading or trying or bugreporting?

  • ITunes 10.3.1 64bit hangs and freezes constantly

Ever since I downloaded iTunes 10.3.1 on my Windows 7 machine I can barely use it!  Everything I tell iTunes to do, whether its adding a song to a playlist, or playing a song, is met with a good 30-60 second "hang" before it performs that command. I have read on the forums that people are having trouble with freezing when performing certain tasks, but this freezes on everything!
I have tried rebuilding my library and completely uninstalling and reinstalling itunes/quicktime/bonjour/software update/application support. Nothing works.
Any advice or suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I have the same issue.  I took it the genius bar and called talked to tier 2 phone support. They have standard thing where you uninstall all apple software in a certain order and then reinstall 64bit itunes.  That did nothing (tried it 4 times).
I've gotten two clues so far.
One is that at the store if I plug someone else's iphone 4 in then itunes acts the same way. So it is not the phone. Two is tier 2 phone support told me to try syncing it with a fresh user account (an admin one). I did that and itunes was just fine, it did not freeze.
So there appears to be some conflict with the software, music files, whatever that is on my current user account (also an admin account).  I ran virus and malware detectors and found nothing.  Now I'm going to try putting my music, movies, apps, etc in the new user account and see if the phone will sync then.
I know its not much but thats where I'm at. I hope it helps.

  • Cannot switch WIFI on Dell Inspiron 5420 after OS freeze and restart.(Win 8.1)

Fortnight ago, my laptop freezed after starting up from hibernate, am guessing the laptop freezed due to many programs being serviced. i had to restart the system by forcibly shutting the system down using the power button.
After the boot up, i discovered my laptop WIFI didn't turn up, after several attempt to start it up, i used "5460_Network_Driver_0J8D1_WN_10.0.0.263_A00"  to repair the driver, which worked well at first until my laptop switched on the "Airplane Mode" all by itself, on turning off the "Airplane mode" and turning the "WIFI" on manually, it couldn't initiate and i had to repair again.
I opted to uninstall and remove the profile and have a fresh installation all over again. only this time i kinda made it worse, because "5460_Network_Driver_0J8D1_WN_10.0.0.263_A00"  now fails to complete installation as it fails.
Also tried installing this "Chipset_Driver_CN7W1_WN_9.5.14.1724_A01" before installing "5460_Network_Driver_0J8D1_WN_10.0.0.263_A00"
I attached the images and log, please what do i have to do?

  • Using xsb files with xmlbeans ant task

    Hi all
I have got an xsd which references other schemas: for these other schemas I have only the xsbs. The xmlbeans ant task refuse to load the xsd I'm giving in because cannot found the other schemas. I'd like to simply import the existing xsb so that the ant task can use them: does anyone know how to do it?
Thank you in advance for any help
    cdr

Actually it doesn't work properly in SQL Server 2008 R2.  I have a similar EP task.  If I set the working directory to \\server\share\subdir the task fails. However, if I map a drive latter to the \\server\share and set working directory to <drive>:\subdir
    it works

  • Thinkpad E540 freezing on waking from hibernation

This is a brand new laptop running Windows 8.1 and it randomly freezes on opening the lid after hibernation.
I have updated to the latest bios and removed Lenovo tools for smal businesses both solutions were found on various forums.  Before I return it with a ticket to Lenovo does anyone have any suggestions as to the cause?
I bought an almost identical machine about a month before and it has no problem.

Yes I can confirm that this is what I was suspecting. When my Macbook Pro hibernates with Parallels running, it freezes with the RAM problem. When Parallels is off, if wakes normally, no problem at all. I am also getting constant bad RAM "access violation", "runtime", and "exception" errors when running RAM-intensive programs that crash whatever I was working on. This is really making Windows unuseable for me but I am struggling with it considering there is no alternative expect using an actual crappy PC.
I found an article on Parallels forum that describes this issue among others: http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=108735
Unfortunately, it's been an issue for almost a year now and no solution. Really bad support from Parallels if you ask me. Can't say anything about VMWare though, because I do not use that.

  • ARD tasks never end

    Hi, all-
I have 2 servers (10.6.8) with ARD. One uses 3.4 and one 3.5.1. All clients are 3.5.1. There are some tasks, thawing and freezing client machines for example, that sometimes don't stop. I can watch as all the clients restart after sending the command and show that they have changed states, but the task continues. This means, of course, that other tasks pile up until i realize what's happening and manually stop the task. It's not consistent- sometimes the task will end. It happens on both of my servers.
Very irritating! Does anyone have any ideas?
    thanks,
    ann

BTW Apple Remote Desktop dose have the ability to email you when tasks succeed or fail.
ARD dose offer the ability to assign tasks to a "task server." basically you set up another computer with ARD, add all the computers to ARD on the 2nd computer. And then you can assign tasks to the 2nd Computer. The task server still performs one task at a time, but that dose mean your 1st computer is free to run other tasks. So you could have two tasks running at ones.
Tasks server can get stuck on tasks, just like regular ARD. And you can of corse rig the task server to email when tasks complete / fail.
And there no reason you can't setup a 3rd computer, but I and manually run tasks on that computer as well.
I haven't tired using ARD in multiple accounts on the same computer, at the same time, but I'll have to try that tomorrow, and see if that works.

    2. updated all with software update and freezes EVEN MORE. it got so bad that moving mouse to task bar will freeze everything.
    3. when it freezes. Nothing else works accept the reset button (keyboard will not do any thing)
    Any pointer and help apperciated.

I hope you try a Mac again (a good one this time!). I truly believe you will never go back once you own a good one!

  • FREEZE FRAME QUIRKS

    FREEZE FRAMES. GOTTA LOVE 'EM.
Can anyone tell me why they sometimes freeze the empty black space that is not a layer into the frame. For example, sometimes I'll layer a few TEXT's to make something, then freeze frame it. Most of the time, I can then place that image over another video and all you see is the text. Other times, it does me the "courtesy" of freezing the black background (which is really an empty void) and when I overlay it of course there's the text and black. Any answers would be adored.

freeze frame content is controlled by selection and/or autoselect. Autoselect the track with a single type object and you'll probably get a transparent freeze of just that object. Oddly enough, I can't seem now to get anything but a freeze of all the layers with transperency, but I do know that I have seen it refuse to freeze the full composite in the past.

  • 17in MBP Freezes on Battery Power?

I have a 17 inch core-duo MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.4.9. Within the last couple of weeks (maybe since I updated to 10.4.9, can't really remember), I have been having an issue where whenever I take the computer off AC power and use it just on battery it randomly freezes after ten minutes or so. It doesn't seem to correlate to any specific task but it freezes to the point that apple control power button will not restart it so I have to hold down the power button until it shuts off..
The screen and clock go completely paused however iTunes music will still continue to play..
Does anyone have any thoughts on how to solve this via software? I already did an archive and install of the OS and am still having the same problems. I checked and repaired permissions/etc as well. I am not sure if this is related to hardware or software?
    Any help would be appreciated!!!
    Thanks again!

The first thing you can try is resetting the PRAM which is outlined here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
If this doesn't help then try resetting the SMC:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319
Read the info before resetting the SMC as it will return your MacBookPro to it's default settings.
If after all this you still get freezes you will have to call Applecare and they will probably ask you to perform the same tasks again.

  • My Time Capsule will not work through Time Machine but need to back up because my hard drive is corrupt. I hard-wired it to my MacBook Pro and have been dragging files to capsule in finder window. Will I have problems since it's flashing yellow constantly

My Time Capsule is constantly flashing yellow and it will not preform periodic back-ups. When I tell it to from the icon on the top task bar, it freezes MacBook...every time. I am now dragging files from internal HD to TC found in Finder after hardwiring it to laptop treating it as an external HD.  Can in trust it to store files and photos as my MacBook is telling me to back-up because my internal HD is corrupt and may need replacing?
    Thanks in advance.

A PC can have more issues connecting than a Mac.
But it really should not matter.. so just try it in situ.. press and hold the reset.. once it starts up, it will return to default IP, 10.0.1.1 the PC should then be able to find it via the airport utility.
If not drag it over to the Mac and plug in there by ethernet.. or since it is a laptop, really should not be that difficult to drag the Laptop and plug it into the TC.
Important thing is to get access to the TC.
The Mac if it is running lion, then you MUST download and install 5.6 airport utility to do anything useful.

  • Macbook Problems: Hard Drive Failure or Bad Ram?

I bought a used Black Macbook several months ago. Everything was fine until recently I ran into some problems. It wouldn't boot one day at all, so I wiped the drive clean and reinstalled Snow Leopard. Once again everything was fine for a while until the same thing happened and I once again wiped and reinstalled. The first time it happened I used diskwarrior and disk utility to try and repair the drive with no luck. The weird thing is that after reinstalling I can check the disk and it verifies as ok until one day it fails.
I know that the guy I bought the laptop from upgraded the RAM and the HDD. He didn't do such a good installing the HDD since the IR port and Sleep Indicator Light don't function properly anymore. I've read that happens a lot when installing a new HDD.
    So, Here are the symptoms:
    Disk Failures
Erratic boot times: Sometimes only 90 seconds, sometimes as long as 13 minutes
Hang ups, beach balls in normal every day tasks
Complete system freezes during normal use
I've never had a kernel panic.
Recently when the system wouldn't boot I ran in verbose mode and it said something about error reading kernel cache Error 0x80000020
Is this definitely my HDD, or could my RAM be causing this?

    Thanks for the replies!
Yeah, I think it's the HDD. I was just worried that the RAM was bad and corrupted the HDD or something, but given the symptoms I think you guys are right. Ordered a 7200RPM 320GB HDD off Amazon Prime...will be here tomorrow
I'll post how it goes after I finish installing it. I'm backing up as I type.
I wonder if I can fix the ir port and the sleep indicator light when I install the hard-drive. The sleep indicator light never turns off. It stays on as long as my computer is on, only turns off when I shut it down.
