Garageband isn't starting up

Garageband program isn't responding when I start it up.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Garageband program isn't responding when I start it up.
What exactly happens, when you launch GarageBand? Which version?
Does it happen with any project? New and old projects? Did it ever run with Mavericks?  Are you using device drivers for audio interfaces? Audio unit plug-ins?

Right click 'computer' in your PC/laptop (whichever).  Click 'Manage', then 'Services and Applications', then 'Services', you should see 'Apple Mobile Device' running or stopped.  If you couldn't find 'Apple Mobile Device', it means you haven't download iTunes into your PC/laptop (whichever).

  • Macbook pro isn't starting

my macbook pro isn't starting. it gets as far as the apple logo and loading wheel but does go any further, please help!!

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Boot into the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. The easiest way to deal with the problem is to boot from an external drive, or else to use either of the techniques in Steps 1b and 1c to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
    Step 3
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 4
If you use a wireless keyboard, trackpad, or mouse, replace or recharge the batteries. The battery level shown in the Bluetooth menu item may not be accurate.
    Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
    Step 7
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 6.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 9
Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 10
Repeat Step 9, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 11
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a boot failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 12
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

Such an error is always caused by inconsistent files in the Firefox program folder (application.ini and/or platform.ini and possibly others) and your only option is to reinstall that version of Firefox, either via the software repositories or the Mozilla server.<br />
Be sure to delete all files in that folder before copying the files from that tar.bz2 archive.<

  • My AMDS Isn't starting??

Hello, I've had problems with my iPhone 6 (iOS 8.3) connecting to iTunes (12.1.2) . I have noticed that my AMDS hasn't started and whenever i click 'start' it comes up with this: 'The Apple Mobile Device Service service on Local Computer has started and then stopped. Some services start automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs.'  I can't think of anything to fix it.. It isn't saying how or why. I have Windows 7.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • GarageBand Crashes at Start Up

I have a problem with Garageband, whenever I try to open it it starts to initialize, then freezes up, I get a message saying "GarageBand has unexpectedly quit" and the message gives me a submit report or close option to click. clicking the close does not end the program, the only way to end the program is to force quit.
I have just had the memory upgraded to 640 - a the apple store, and installed Ableton Live 5. This is when the problem began.
    I have done the following,
Logged out of my user account,
    Deleted garageband plist file
    installed update 1.1
    None of this has helped.
Has anyone else had the same problem? and found a solution?

Hello Anthony and welcome to discussions,
I think you may have inadvertantly answered your own question.
My first "shot" would be to remove Ableton Live 5. Repair permissions and see if that cures the problem.
If not you could be looking at a RAM issue.
    Hope that helps some
    Regards
    Ian

  • GarageBand won't start, keep on initializing....

    Dear all,
I tried to open GarageBand this afternoon for the first time (after using this new imac for almost half a year) today and it couldn't start.
The 'Initializing..' window ran continuously for a long time (more than 2 mins) with no progress. I force-quitted and try loading it again several times and it didn't work.
Here's the error message i got when I launched GarageBand from the terminal:

    i've tried this too~~~ still doesn't work...
Actually, I've tried several other solutions like deleting pref files, application Cache, repair permissions...
I have Office 2008 and Adobe CS3 Master Collection installed.
Do u think they cause any problems? (like incompatible fonts.)
also, i don't quite understand the error message:
    2009-01-26 21:22:41.514 GarageBand7875:10b Invalid IFPkgRelocatedPath found in /Library/Receipts/GarageBandFactoryContent.pkg/Contents/Info.plist

is there any clue we can get from it?

  • Garageband will no start up

I am having major problems with Garageband.
All was well (fresh install of Mavericks and Garageband etc.), I am running a late 2012 mac mini (i5 with 16Gb RAM) with a Line 6 POD XT that I use as my instrument interface. Both Garageband and the POD XT worked brilliantly together until one day my problems started.
Randomly with my POD XT kicking up massive latency issues. (Half second delays between strum and audible sound).
I've been a little busy so put everything to one side until today. Now when I try to open garageband (with a project that worked perfectly before and without any project) I get no response - ultimately a spinning pinwheel and 'application not responding'.
I then have to force quit the application.
I have reinstalled all of the software (both Garageband and the Line 6 software) and tried going back in time to see if that would remedy the issues.. to no avail....
I have also tried uninstalling the Line 6 software to see if that is causing the problem but Garageband still won't startup.
Has anyone else had a problem with Garageband not starting? And with mega-latency problems?
Does anyone know of a fix to get Garageband working?

Since your problems started after installing/deleting plugins, that's where I'd look.
Did the plugins add any files anywhere that are still lingering around making trouble?
Have you tried reinstalling them (if the problems began after you deleted them)?
Were the plugins legit (one reason for getting legit versions is that non-legit versions can sometimes
    cause problems).
BTW, have you tried deleting GB's preference files (both) and repairing permissions?

  • My firefox isn't starting and I've tried changing the profile manager but that wouldn't open either even when I closed it out on the task manager

I've followed all the steps in the "Firefox will not start" and it is still not working :(

I'm also having this problem. The firefox.exe ins't even shown in my processes, but the profile manager still won't open. Neither will firefox internet. So far I've been going in circles trying to figure it out and nothing is working. I don't want to start deleting things (the profile, extentions), but I don't know what else to do.

  • IWork 09, Finder only working as a dictionary, and garageband isn't opening!

I recently had a harddrive issue, I had to get it replaced and I also added a TB of memory - all my files were safe. They put all my content into a folder on my desktop. Once I got my computer back home I installed the new OS X and upgrade to Mavericks. Then I realized something is ****** up.
I don't even know where to begin - at first I tried to open Pages to work on my resume` , but pages wasn't on there. I checked the folder they had on the desktop and through enough searching I found the iworks folder from my old HD, I tried to open it from there but to no avail. I asked a buddy and he gave me a few pointers. I reinstalled/updated iWorks 09 and even put the app in my dock -  ever since then I can't open anything not a old document nor new. Sm goes for Numbers.
I don't know what is going on with Finder but it's ony function right now is a dictionary - this is beyond frustrating, infurriating.
Garageband is something that i use quite frequently but at this moment - I am so lost. Apple Loops weren't there at first but I figured out that I needed to reinstall Logic Pro to get all of that good stuff. Cool. The problem now is I have 2 versions of Garageband now on my computer 1. is the old version and as far as i can tell it works. 2. the updated GB, but it won't finish installing. It keeps blaming it on network errors. -_- I NEED HELP!!!!

I would think that at the very LEAST you would be eligible for a COMPLETE refund of ALL charges for insurance paid thru Verizon!  They were charging you for something you were ineligible for!  Verizon has a record of whether or not you purchased the phone from them - otherwise how could they deny the claim!
It very sad to see how customer service and customer satisfaction has been lost here ... !
