GDM should not be running during boot?

I have been trying to boot faster and therefore dropped GDM and instead used SLIM, but my bootchart still says that GDM starts even though I have uninstalled it. Why is it running? Should I remove it? How to remove it?

GDM is not specified in my GDM array:
DAEMONS=(@preload syslog-ng netfs @cpufreq @hal @fnfxd !crond @wicd @smbnetfs)
And I have specified slim in my inittab:
# /etc/inittab
# Runlevels:
# 0 Halt
# 1(S) Single-user
# 2 Not used
# 3 Multi-user
# 4 Not used
# 5 X11
# 6 Reboot
## Only one of the following two lines can be uncommented!
# Boot to console

So I don't know why it is still running.

  • Oracle 11g XE listener does not start automatically during boot

    Hi,
This happened to me recently I just wanted to share it with you.
For development I was running Standard Edition, at some point I decided to run also XE on the same server for another reasons. Everything was working fine, except that after restart of the server, the XE listener is not starting automatically. Debugging the startup script I found that this happens because of a bug in the code, which assumes that XE listener is running if it finds the word LISTENER within the processes list. I didn't found any obligation in the docs for running XE without any other databases on the same host.
In file /etc/init.d/oracle-xe, at line 556 the code is failing:
    1     + status='oracle 2889 1 0 May13 ? 00:00:05 /oracle/ora112se/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER -inherit'
    2     + '[' 'oracle 2889 1 0 May13 ? 00:00:05 /oracle/ora112se/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER -inherit' == '' ']'
As you can see I have another listener(the one for SE) running and because of the XE startup script found the keyword LISTENER it’s supposing that the XE LISTENER is already running.
To fix this simply change line 556 from:
    1     status=`ps -ef | grep tns | grep oracle`
    To:
    1     status=`ps -ef | grep tns | grep oracle | grep xe`
Now XE listener is started automatically during boot.

I though the same thing, but XE LISTENER is running on localhost and port 1522. On the other hand XE have local_listener explicitly set to the very same connection descriptor. Even XE installation was second on this server.
I've could change that yes, but the startup script doesn't seemed to have this mind.

  • Netcfg2 not providing menu during boot

    Hi,
I've spent the morning configuring netcfg2 on my system, and it's certainly easier than my last experience with Ubuntu Server.
I have no problems connecting when running the #netcfg2 wireless (where wireless is my configuration).  My issue is that this command needs to be run as root, manually.
The instructions and what I have gleaned off of forum posts indicate I should disable the network daemon in /etc/rc.conf, as it isn't needed anymore.  I also have ensured NETWORKS=(menu) or NETWORKS=(wireless) so that the menu or just the wireless comes up during the boot process.  Except no menu comes up, and neither does the wireless during boot.
Some context:  I'm running this old IBM thinkpad i1500 (celeron 450MHz) without a GUI, to force myself to learn eLinks, Mutt, vim and w3m, so my goal is to have the network connect during boot, so I don't have to use root or su.
I have somehow missed whatever config setting launches the NETWORKS=(menu) as part of the boot process.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi.
What about, instead of using NETWORKS=(menu), having one of the startup scripts (rc.local or similar) run /usr/bin/netcfg-menu?  You can also try asking in the netcfg2 thread; I think iphitus is monitoring that thread for questions and problems:  http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=43863.

  • Freight should not get reversed during credit memo

    Hi Experts,
I Have a purchase order with planned delivery costs for e.g. say freight of some value and Goods receipt is posted and invoice is posted with freight. But our customer needs that when they perform the credit memo freight should not be reversed. How to perform this
    Regards
    Badri

    HI Badri
can create credit memo without freight cost
    1) in MIRO choose Cedit memo
    2) in indicator choose only  goods/service items
(if want to rasise credit memo for both material cost and freight need to choose goods/service items + planned delivery cost)
    3) then both material cost and freight cost will display, here need to deselect freight cost.
    4) now post. credit memo would have posted for only material cost.

  • [SOLVED] Imapd does not start (only during boot process)

    I'm running a courier-imap server.
A few days ago I noticed I did not receive any mails anymore. Then I found my imapd daemon was not running anymore.
I then stopped the daemon process together with the xinetd daemon (which lets me connect to my imap server via my local network).
I restart from a terminal both daemons (imapd an xinetd) and ... everything is up and running ! Note that I have to stop xinetd too because only stopping imapd and restarting doesn't help.
I reboot my PC ... again no imapd anymore. During the boot process I do not get any error message though ...
    I'm completely puzzled
The problem started when I upgraded to the linux 3.0.1 kernel ...
Last edited by Strider (2011-08-14 07:59:41)

I managed to get the problem solved by removing and re-installing the courier-imap package. Don't know why that solved it though ...

  • Printers removed from workstation and readded by themselves- policy should not be running

We are currently ins a state of upgrading all our netwrae 6 servers to
netware 6.5 and our zen from 4.01 to zen 7.
While we have most of our netware serveres up to 6.5, the one that has
zen 4.01 is still a newtare 6 server.
Our printers are mostly HP4200's and we just migrated all of them to
the Novell Gateway from the "Unsupported HP Gateway" a few weeks ago.
    WE have windows 2000 workstations.
We still use the NT computer printer policy since our server was
migrated from zen 3.2 to 4.01...
This is how we get our printers to the workstations
the printers are added to the NT computer printer policy so when the
user's machine starts up, it reads the policy and deploys the proper
printers. We then have apps that are set to force run the first time
the user gets the printers and those apps build the printer.
This has been working fine since 2003
What's happening and it did not start till about a week or two
    ago.....
while a user's machine is up and running, they attempt to print
something and it comes out of the wrong printer or can't print at all
because the printer tray settings are gone...
    what it appears is happening:
When you manually delete a printer that was deployed by zen and then
restart the machine or run the printer policy, it redeploys the
printers, but since the tray apps have already run, they don't deploy
again.... this creates an "unbuilt printer"
Since the printers are all unbuilt and the default printer may be the
wrong one, when the problem ocurrs, it appears as though all the
printers are being removed and then readded, changing the default
printer and also unbuilding them since they would have to be deleted
in order to be readded to appear unbuilt.
The policy doesn't appear to be running, so I don't know how this is
    happening on a running workstation.
Is there a way to determine without watching a PC all day long to see
if the policy or something is running without cause to determine
whether it actually is Zen running a policy to redo the printer policy
    when it's not supposed to....
I know this is confusing, but there really doesn't seem to be an easy
    way to explain this...
I should also add, this problem seems to affect one Xerox DC3535 we
have that also uses the Novell gateway.
Did upgrading to Netware 6.5 also upgrade the Novell gateway and could
    this cause this problem?
Any ideas what I can check?
    Thanks
    Tony

  • Delivery Note Number should not repeat again during MIGO

    Hi Friends,
My client has a requirement to validate the Delivery note filed in the MIGO screen, i.e., the system should allow the user to enter a delivery note number once entered already during goods movement through MIGO. Is there any way that this can be done?
    Regards
    Guru Prasad

    Thanks for the reply Ganesh.
    Explaination of the requirement:
During goods receipt the user is supposed to enter the delivery challan number of the vendor in the filed "Delivery Note" in MIGO header. If the user by mistake types the same delivery note number again while posting goods reciept for the same vendor in future, the system should throw an error. If there is any user exit or if it can be done through some development kindly suggest the procedure for the same.
I also checked for the standard system messages, but couldn't find any.

  • Errors on an executable (and not when running during the development process) J1939 related

I've got the J1939 protocol up and running on
Labview 8.5... though when I create an executable it gives me these
    following errors upon start-up...see jpg.
Is this related to something I need to include withint the Build? or Installer?
Also, why is it that when I go to include the NI 2.6.3 CAN installer within the Installer EXE, that it asks for a CRIO disk?
    Thanks...

    Hey Jonathanupr,
It looks to me like you did not configure your LabVIEW Executable's build specifications appropriately.  Please go back and check the specifications to make sure that you've included your higher-level VI and all of the sub-VIs used in the J1939 protocol download (I'm assuming you downloaded the libraries from our website) in the project.  Then, within your Build Specification, make sure your higher-level VI is included in the Startup VIs section on the Source Files tab and the J1939 library files are included in the "Always Included" portion of the Source Files tab.
If your CAN driver is asking for the cRIO disk, it could be associating that with the original download location of the driver.  You could try first uninstalling the driver, then download the driver to a location on your hard disk (either from our website or from your CD).  After installing the driver from a hard-disk location, the driver should no longer be associated with a CD, but with the location on your hard disk.

    Dear All,
We have the Scenario as below....
    Payment Terms : 10 days , 2 % Discount
    Base Line Date : 03/18/2015
    Net Due Date : 03/28/2015
    Payment Run : 03/31/2015
So as payment run date ( 03/31/2015 ) is already past due date (03/28/2015 ), why system still taking out the discount during payment run ?
Please suggest whether am I missing any other settings ?
    Thanks,
    Rk

    HI Rama,
    First make the payment term
    10 days , 2 % Discount

Why system still taking out the discount during payment run ? The below fields can also influence your setting to get similar results.
    1. tolerance days for payables.
    2.Max cash discount allowed.
    3.Payment per due date

  • Can not load modules during boot with kernel 2.6.31

Every time i install kernel 2.6.31 (ever since it got into core), after reboot i receive message
    FATAL: module ... not found
with every module in my rc.conf, or sometimes with this message:
FATAL: could not load /lib/modules/2.6.30-ARCH/modules.dep no such file or directory
Before those errors the boot script complaisn about hardware clock (right after the Arch Linux line):
Could not access the hardware clock via any known method.
After that I can still start X but my keyboard and mouse are completely dead. The console works fine, i just can not load any module per hand, some daemon can not be started - obviously.
Latest kernel 2.6.30 works fine. Is this a problem of 2.6.31 ?

    /lib/modules/2.6.30-ARCH/
That is very strange... it's not booting into .31
It's an install problem because that dir shouldn't be there after updating kernel26.
I know you said you installed from core, but was it a custom install? Did you change the PKGBUILD in anyway?
After installing .31, before rebooting do depmod 2.6.31-ARCH
    Then do mkinitcpio -p kernel26
Post the output of the second one.

  • [solved] Making stuff run during boot (wifi connect script)

In Ubuntu, I used some commands to add a script to init.d for a wireless connect script, but Arch is differnet. How would I go about putting a script to connect to wireless during startup? (GUI network managers don't like me, and if they don't connect quick enough, then Kopete complains )

Nice, it worked perfectly, and I didn't even notice it boot slower I was getting tired of manually connecting after logging in.

  • CRS should not Starts at SYSTEM Boot

    Hi Experts,
i have two node RAC. actulayy when i need to reboot my server then i need to stop services and clusterware manullay but when system is restarted/rebooted all CRS services and nodesapp started. so dun want these services starts when system rebooted automatically i want i start all manullay..so please tell me how i can achive this
    my clusterware 10.2.0.4
    db 10.2.0.4
    and O/S is AIX6.1 64bit
    regards,

It is a simple matter to force manual restart. Look in the docs for 10.2 and find the name of the script used to configure autorestart ... it will be owned by root ... and make the appropriate changes.
Could I tell you the name? Yep. Will I? No. And the reason is not to be cruel but rather you need to read these docs and understand the script before you do what you are contemplating.
Remember the entire point of RAC is high availability. What you are suggesting you want to do turns high availability into high availability ONLY if a qualified Oracle DBA happens to be available. I presume you never get sick, never take day off, never take a holiday, and will never quit. If my assumptions are incorrect ... you might want to reconsider your plans.
