  • MS6167 + Geforce MX440 - flickering and jumping screen

I recently bought an Inno3D Geforce MX440 64MB DDR for my MS-6167 motherboard. The screen was flickering and somtimes jumped too. I thought the Gfx board was bad and returned it for a Palit Daytona Geforce MX440 64MB DDR. The same behaviour turned up and I understood this had nothing to do with the graphic card. When I looked into the Nvidia configuration it told me 'Bus type: APG 1X'. I knew that my motherboard was 'AGP 2X' so I wondered why this was happening. Both those cards are AGP 2X/4X.
I suspect that the AGP speed is causing this. Why is the screen otherwise behaving like this? What possible cause could it be?
Sometimes the mouse pointer gets garbled. I'm running Windows XP Pro Swe.

I changed driver for the AMD-751 from 'AMD-751 Processor to AGP Controller (AMD)' to 'PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge'. Then it works better.
Maybe the performance isn\'t as good as it should be, but the flickering and jumping screen is gone.

that is suggesting to me either your PSU is failing, or it is a Poor PSU with over-optimistic amp ratings (eg Q-Tec). it will all appear to work fine on your older board, as that has lower power requirements, have a look in my sticky Is your problem caused by your PSU? for more info and advice.

  • Problems with 3d!

Hi everyone! Recently I did some major modifications to my computer but I noticed that 3d games don't work anymore! Guild Wars doesn't work... Need For Speed gone... The games run for a couple of seconds then freeze. Even under some load the computer restarts for no reason! (Randomly) Now I did the smart thing and e-mailed MSI but they sent me the bios version 2.43 (Not 2.4) and I was wondering what the difference was between 2.4 and 2.43... (I have 2.3 installed)
Has anyone else had a problem like this? Here was my original system-
    Pentium 2.4C
    MSI 865PE Neo2 (2.3)
    Seagate 80gb SATA 7200RPM
    Geil Golden Dragon 512mb (6-3-3 cas2)
    Chaintech Geforce Ti4200 64mb
    PowMax PSU 350w
Recently to fix this problem I thought my processor was overheating... So I went out and bought me a new processor from newegg... Pentium 3.0E... Problem still exists... I also put some arctic silver 5 on the chipset core just to make sure it's icy cold...
So I did the smart thing and got a new video card... Aslyum Geforce FX5200 256mb... Problem still exists...
I have all the latest drivers and even tried the 56.72 nVidia drivers and the super latest ones... I have SP1 and the newest INF drivers... You name it... I got it... Anyone have any ideas what is going on?
I also called nVidia for help on this but all they did was run the direct X diagnostic (Which I passed) and found no real problems on their cards (Did a full driver clean before I switched back to 56.72)...
Now I'm stuck with a super fast computer that can't run anything :(

    Aslyum GeForce FX5200 256mb
    PowMax PSU 350w
Oh one more thing... Should I try installing the 2.43 bios? I can't do it via floppy or disk... I have to do it in windows (Which was successful for the 2.3)
    PowMax Stats

Since this PSU has given me problems before... I plan to toss it and get me a more reliable one... Hell I'm starting to think the PSU is the cause of all these problems!

To flash from CD go to this thread. Download the zip file and burn the iso image on it to a cd. If you don't have software for burning ISO images there is a link in my signature to a free one.
Download the bios and flash program from the motherboard page and put in a directory on your hard drive.
Put the CD in the tray, reboot, and press the F11 key to select the cd drive to boot from. The cd drive becomes a:, c: is a ramdrive, and your c: drive shows up as d:, etc.
    Change to c: (the ramdrive)
Copy the flash program and bios image from d: (your 'real' c: drive)
    Flash away.
Alternatively, there is a link in my signature to booting from a USB stick.
Flashing from Windows is a crap shoot. Eventually you will lose.

  • Dvi - no signal on new screen

    Hi,
I got my new Acer AL2423 yesterday, very nice screen, but I only get it to work on VGA and on not so good resolution, 1600x1200. When DVI is connected 'no signal' only comes up on the screen. According to Acer the screen will know if it's digital or analog signals, so there is no button or anything like that on the screen to switch. What can be wrong? Graphic card? (Nvidia GeForce Fx5200 64mb), have never been running the computer (PM 2x1.8) with a dvi screen before, only a vga screen. The call was disconnected when I talked to Acer (after been waiting over 15 min to get through, phew), so all my questions wasn't answered. Thought I would check out a few more things before calling back and heading into that cue again, with mac folks etc.
I've been resetting PRAM a few times with no different result. Is there anything more I can do? It's DVI-D on the screen and DVI-I on the graphic-card on the PM, but that should work, shouldn't it? I am no screen wizard, have only had one screen with my PM all the time. Will soon get my MBP from service (with a fixed lidlock) and so I can test if the screen and DVI works on that one. That could exclude anything wrong with the screen for instance. It would be nice if you had any qualified thoughts that could help me after a night of googling, searching and testing?

After I removed the card and replaced it I couldn't get a signal on VGA either. So I guess I wont bother to test the ADC port with that result. Will make another try tomorrow to be certain, but it seems like the card is gone. I guess the flimmering that has been going on for a few months on the old screen had more to do with the graphic card then the other screen then. I thought the screen were getting old....but well the g-card is older Was some weird color flashes that happened as well on VGA when I tested around on the G5.
The screen is btw wonderful when running on MBP, and how less complicated computer problems gets when having 2 computer, can't even imagine how life was before.
    Again, thank guys....

  • Error bips table

I have a 845 Pro (MS-6529) MSI mainboard with a P4 1.7GHz. My problem is that the system can't start. I mean, I turn on the computer, coolers start moving, but nothing more happens except for some bips I can hear.
If I can hear those bips its because the motherboard is performing its POST initial tests and it's alive... I think. I searched MSI site for a table about those bips, but I couldn't find anything.
I already reseted the CMOS and changed memory. I will be testing the processor in another mainboard, but, anyway, I would like the info about the bips.
      Thanks in advance.

It have only a 400W power-supply, the MSI  845-Pro (MS-6529) motherboard, a PGA 423 Pentium 4 1.7GHz processor, a 128MB PC133 DRAM module, a GeForce Mx200 64MB AGP video card, the speaker and power switch connectors plugged... nothing more... no disks connected, no software...
the bips comes from the pc-speaker, 4 seconds after you turn on the computer... nothing shows on the screen... two different tones, like: PPPPPPPPpppppppppp, PPPPPPPPpppppppppp, PPPPPPPPpppppppppp, PPPPPPPPpppppppppp...

  • Sapphire Radeon 9500 still a no-go with my K7N2-L

Well, it's been awhile and I'm still getting the run around.  MSI says the Radeon is bad, and Sapphire says the motherboard is bad.
Here's the short story.  I have a Sapphire 9500 (black PCB) 128, x8AGP.  When I install it, the system does not boot.  (Check sig for system specs.)  The D-led indicates a failed CPU.
The Sapphire works in other computers.
My system is currently using a Nvidia Aopen Geforce 2 64MB without a problem.
Has anyone managed to work around this?
What bios settings for the K7N2-L will work?  I've increased the aperture size before switching the cards to 128, and it still doesn't work.
Is there a voltage / power problem?
    Thanks..
This will probably be the last time I deal with problem.

  • MSI VGA not working, HELP

I have installed a geforce 440 64mb ddr to replace an older Viper II video card.  Now I can no longer view the boot process or view the BIOS when I hit delete.  This does not stop Windows from loading correctly.  What could be the problem, since my older video card worked flawlessly?
    My specs are noted below.
    Thanks for your help.

Looks good on the 3.3 and 5v rails but your 12v rail is lacking bigtime and may be what's causing your problem...
You should have at least 20A or better for the 12v rail because of these power hungry parts we're using now...
See if you can borrow a PSU from a friend that has a higher rail amperage and see if that helps...
Antec supplies are great because they've separated all of the supplied rails to their own circuits thus allowing better power distribution to the components. Definitely worth the investment!
    Cheers!! 8)

  • MS-6330, sudden new errors

    Hi,
I have now just recently started getting errors with my comp. When trying to play games (Day of Defeat, Combat Mission) the computer "locks" up, i.e. gets horrible FPS. Its in the vicinity of 1FPS/30secs or so. Also the sound starts hacking or looping. i have done nothing special to the computer. Once I ran Spybot which made some changes in the registry of my dear WinXP Prof. but thats it... Does anybody know what could be using this?
Here is a link to the report from Sandra: Report
My PSU has so far been enough. Can they "wear out" and not give the same power as before? Can it be dust that is cloggin it up? I've tried cleaning all the fans etc but no help.
This started all of a sudden without any logical reason which pussles me.
    All help is appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Jussi

    Here is some more info:
    Win XP Pro, SP1
    512MB Memory
    1 HD, 80GB, 7200RPM
    1 CD-burner
    1 DVD-drive
    Network card 10/1000
    Geforce 4Ti4200, 64MB
    On-board soundcard
300W PSU, has been enough earlier. Bought is second-hand.
Newest drivers in everything, BIOS upgraded.
No high temps anywhere, the GF4 doesnt feel hot either. Didnt help to clean the fans from dust etc...
Errors started without any apparent reason--> hardware failure?
    Any help appreciated.
/Edited to add: The problem seems to be graphics based. Any "tougher" 3D surfaces cause major problems. No BSD:s or reboots, just REALLY slow FPS.

    Jussi

  • HD Encoding and a new videocard.

    Hello all!
I've got a question about HD encoding. My can't even encode Youtube HD, and that is pretty awfull. I know that replacing the processor helps alot, but as I cannot change my processor I want to find other ways to have a better HD encoding.
    What might help?
    - Extra RAM?
    - Better Videocard (Now GeForce FX5200 64MB)
    - Something else?
As I do not really like my GeForce FX5200, I want to replace it with an ATI Radeon 9600 128MB. But now I come to the problem that PC cards are most times not supported in a Mac. But I suppose Mac cards a way too expensive for what I actually get. So I thought, maybe the PC version of 9600 wil just work without any flash, but I don't know that, so that's the 2nd question: Are PC version of Radeon 9600 supported in a PowerMac without flashing?
    Regards,
    Sjors

    Hee!
I've got some good news for people who wanna watch HD-movie's in Youtube with a PW G5 (Maybe even a G4). I was reading some articles because I couldn't believe it was true. And it seems Flash is coded well enough:
http://exposureroom.com/members/dannocera.aspx/assets/896fe5598847424caec45cc7fb e43d3b/ and press the HD button, on my PM G5 1.8 GHZ SP I can run this movie well, even though it is flash...
Now the good news: There is a program out called Click4 Flash, which is quite impressive. It automatically blocks Flash content (you first got to click on it before it loads) which spare ALOT of CPU usage (at last, that being said by them). Click4 Flash also support Quick-Time in Youtube, which means you can run HD movie's in quick-time (even streaming)! http://rentzsch.github.com/clicktoflash/
It for now it work pretty nice

  • Video Card Upgrade For G5 PowerMac

    Hey guys.
I'm starting to find my G5 a little sluggish. Here are the system specs.
    Power PC G5 Dual 1.8GHz
    4GB PC3200 Ram (kingston kit)
    300GB Velociraptor Hdd
    Geforce FX5200 64MB
    Super multi Drive
    Etc.
I'm thinking my weakest link is my video card. Just watching youtube video's is a real pain. Choppy playback on non-HD video also. Ive been eyeing a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro for the last week. Would this be a decent upgrade? Thanks guys.

    Hi-
I'm thinking my weakest link is my video card.
A monkey with crayons is faster......
Ive been eyeing a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro for the last week.
The 9800 would be a good upgrade over a 5200.
Not sure what price you are looking at, but a flashed Geforce 6800 GT can be had for almost the same money (historically) and is faster than the 9800.

  • Windows won't boot after 9.1 flash (K8T Neo2-F)

    Hello,
I tried flashing to 9.1 to be able to use dual channel mode, but when i try to boot windows xp (sp2) won't start. I just get a blank screen.
I changed the bootorder correctly (1: CD 2:PM Maxtor).
I can boot fine from a CD or floppy when i press F11 or change bootorder.
Also when i try to put the Floppy as first bootdevice it just checks the floppydrive for a bootable disk, then halts.
When the CD is the first bootdevice and HD second, i get a few (about 3) weird colored characters on my screen.
When i try to boot from the second harddrive (40GB on primary slave), i get the message 'Missing operating system'.
I've had a similar problem before when i went from 3.3 to 9.1 and changing the LBA mode on the harddrive fixed that but now it doesn't change.
Could this be because the drive was formatted in non-LBA mode (although i doubt that's the case...)?
    Any idea's?
    Thanks.
    System:
    300W power supply (no brand)
    MSI K8T Neo2-F (VIA K8T880)
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Venice)
    Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2 (2x512MB)
    Nvidia Geforce 3 (64mb) AGP
    Maxtor 6Y080L0 (80GB), primary master
    Seagate ST340016A (40GB), primary slave
BenQ CD/DVD writer (16x): secondary master

And what about optimized defaults? We have already found this to be a problem if you don't set that first before setting up the Bios.
I mentioned the PSU as all you listed is watts and that as I say does not help us at all here. However 15a is asking for problems as you have nothing in reserve to operate from is say the PSU gets warm and loses efficiency, which by the way drops fast, or during startup you can have issues as well and may not even know it as this is the time that PSU's are asked for the most power. Also as you have a GF3 vid card, which at the moment is likely saving that PSU from even more stress, you aren't using 12v on that card, but if you upgrade sometime to a better vid card you will certainly go over the power budget that PSU has available and burn it up or maybe more. What I am saying is that we already know from experience here with people having issues that 15a don't cut it.
So now that I have had to repeat that all over again in yet another thread... You shopuld at least have a look at what you already have as needing an upgrade and while hopefully not at the moment as we already know it runs wether well or not, you should considure upgrading it before you do much else with that system. Not that you need to replace it this very moment. I am just making you aware that your already looking at a possible problem at some point there.

  • No Picture ... No Signal ... MSI Vox 8609

I bought MSI Vox TV Box USB2 (8609) a couple of days ago... connected it in the computer and it was detected normally... the driver worked normally... then connected it through S-Video cable to the TV... installed MSIPVS 2 (which was on the CD) but didn't work, then tried to install WinDVR 3, also didn't work (it said to lower the resolution and colour depth and/or refresh rate for higher quality), then tried the test version of MSIPVS 3, also didnt work... same thing! Black screen with all the programs!..what shall I do ? my computer is P4,2.4GHz, GeForce 2 64MB video card, WinXP Home ... ? what shall I Do?

what are you trying to acheive? why are you connecting s-video cable to the tv?
the s-vid connector is an INPUT. the vox box requires a signal IN to display on your PC screen
