Geforce 9400 vs. 9400M

My Mac Mini late 2009 should have the NVIDIA Geforce 9400M graphics card. Instead only the 9400 is shown in "about this Mac". I have reasons to assume that certain problems are connected to the 9400. Why do I not have the 9400M - or is it simply displayed incorrectly in the "About this Mac"?

Per this
Re: Is NVIDIA GeForce 9400 the same as GeForce 9400M?
They seem to be the same except in form factory. M is for mobile applications which is used on the Mini

  • Is NVIDIA GeForce 9400 the same as GeForce 9400M?

Final Cut Pro X system requirements claim I need a GeForce 9400M to use the software but my Mac says I simply have a GeForce 9400. Are they essentially the same?

    Hi,
Going to the Nvidia website, it is clear that they regard the 9400 and the 9400M as different. Is it only the form factor (M seems to be meant for laptops) or are there greater differences? I don't know. Mac users are usually saved from the Windows problems with driver updates, but that's another issue.
But my aging iMac does well enough with FCP X and seems to have the 9400 graphics card.
I agree, try the trial version and see what happens.

    Things to note:
I have been unable to update firmware on this computer for about a year now. Im not sure why.
I am running a bootleg copy of Windows XP on this computer, I would not like to spend $149 to get Windows 7 if possible.
any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Why don't you take your 'old' MBP into your local Apple Store and have them check out everything that's wrong with it - and I mean everything? Then, when you get an estimate about how much it would cost to get the machine completely repaired, ask about the Apple flat-rate repair pricing?
It's worth a shot - and with what you may save, you can put in the bank for a new MBP.

  • Does Sims 3 Pets work with Snow Leopard and NVIDIA GeForce 9400 graphics?

So I recently purchased Sims 3 Pets, because as I'm sure someone has heard, my computer met the tech specs published on the game box. But I have the problem in the game that whenever a horse appears, the game freezes. I've heard that updating Leopard (I have 10.5.8) to Snow Leopard fixes the problem. However, I've also heard that Sims 3 does not work with NVIDIA GeForce 9400 graphics. (But apparently Snow Leopard needs this graphic card to run?).
So my main question is does anyone know if Sims 3 Pets works with a NVIDIA GeForce 9400 card and Snow Leopard?

*** Just a Note: I've been playing the original Sims 3 game on my mac since it originally came out. I haven't had problems until this particular expansion pack.

  • K9VGM-V and KFA GeForce 9400 GT

Well I've had this PC awhile, got a K9VGM-V motherboard and now I'm trying to install a KFA GeForce 9400 GT so I can play some video games XD
Anyways I load up the comp and I hear some ticking and then it finally goes, then when I get in and try to install the drivers it tells me something like a compatible hardware couldn't be found. And when I go to hardware wizard it also doesn't find it. I've looked around and it seems like there's some conflict with VIA chipset an PCI-E 2.0 graphics cards or something, anyways that's the situation I'm in and wondering what I need to do to get this to work. Thanks,
    -modchamp

    MSI K9VGM-V Bios 1.0
    AMD Athlon XP X2 4400+
    2*1 GB Corsair DDR2 RAM
320 GB Western Digital Sata HDD
    450W PSU
    Windows XP Pro SP3
I think those are the specs offhand. If I unplug my monitor and plug it into the graphics card I get a black screen, but while unplugged I get a no signal message, so apparently I'm getting a signal from the graphics card it's just not sending anything. As I said before when I try and install drivers from the CD it tells me something like no compatible hardware found, and when I run the device wizard or check device manager there's no mention of this new graphics card. No I haven't disabled the onboard vga in bios or uninstalled the onboard vga drivers either. The drivers for the KFA GeForce 9400 GT that I've tried to install are: ForceWare 177.42 WinXP 32Bit, ForceWare 177.31 WinXP 32Bit, ForceWare 177.19 WinXP 32Bit Those are the drivers that come on the CD with the graphics card. Mostly I haven't disabled the onboard vga and uninstalled those drivers is because in the past I've always been able to install my graphics card and use display settings to switch graphics cards around and I'm a little afraid that if I uninstall and disable onboard graphics that I'll have trouble getting them back on if I can't get the graphics card working.

  • MCP7A Ultra Chipset (GeForce 9400) compatibility?

Hello all! I'm planning to purchase a new Core 2 Quad motherboard, for an Arch-based NAS server and secondary box. I was thinking of using one of the GeForce 9300/9400 integrated boards, so I would have the benefits of a video chipset without a separate card, but recently I read that this is not supported in Linux.  Can anyone confirm that boards like  http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Mot … uctID=2946 are viable? Even on the Nvidia site, they have the graphics drivers, but no chipset drivers for Linux.
    Thanks.

Hmmm... on Nvidia's site it seems to insinuate that chipset drivers for Nforce boards (Including the GeForce 9400 ones) are included in the kernal - except for really old versions, which it seems you can download for Nforce1-4 based gear.
Any idea? I guess my key question at the moment is if I should purchase one of these boards, or a P45 based mATX.

  • 21.5 iMac GeForce 9400 - Low Refresh Rate

Anyone have a 21.5" iMac with GeForce 9400 10.6.6? Playing the movie below, I only get about ~30 fps playback according to QuickTime Player 7's info window, and according to the frame meter in Quartz Debug. For you fellow coders, even CVDisplayLink callbacks only go at ~30 fps.
I've freshly restarted the machine, and there's nothing odd installed on the system at all. It really appears there's a hardware problem with not being able to get to 60 fps.

Could be a bad memory problem or an issue with Parallels. Try booting into Safe Mode and see if the panics cease.

  • NVIDIA GeForce 9400 iTunes video hiccups

On Mac OS, as soon as I start up iTunes, my video display seizes up (drops frames for a few hundred milliseconds) every 5 seconds or so, not just in iTunes playback, but across the entire display. This happens whether or not I am playing a video file. As soon as I quit iTunes, the freezes disappear. My computer is a Mac Mini with an NVIDIA GeForce 9400 video card, which I understand can be problematic with iTunes.
Here's the strange part: When I run iTunes on the Windows 7 partition of the same computer - iTunes plays files perfectly well with no freezes at all. Let me stress - the hardware is exactly the same: iTunes works for me under Windows 7, but not under Mac OS, which seems really weird!
    Any advice gratefully accepted.

It doesn't use system memory, it can use if needs.

  • Where can I find a NVDIA GeForce 9400 driver upgrade?

imac9.1 is continually crashing. The problem report is indicating it is in "com.apple.GeForce(5.4.8)".
I assume what I need is to upgrade the NVIDIA GeForce 9400 driver, but I can't find it anywhere,
not even on the official NVIDIA site.  Anybody know ehre I can find it?

Hi, we're stuck with what Apple gives us in the OS, before reinstalling 10.5, try reinstalling the big 10.5.8 combo.
    Repair Permissions afterwords, reboot.
    1058 Combo Update, 10.5.8...
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Photoshop CS6 3D not supported by my NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256MB graphics card

Hey I am trying to use CS6 Photoshop 3D options and when I open Photoshop it says my graphics card is not supported for 3D, it say I need a graphics card that has 512 MB of vRAM.  Can I update my MacBook Pro or am I SOL?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The MacBook Pro has got a soldered graphic card, and in your case, you have an integrated card which doesn't work properly with these type of apps. Unfortunately, it's not possible to replace this card

  • NVIDIA GeForce 9400 graphic driver.

Installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 on my iMac - installed the drivers then was told to rebooted and end up with 4 bits and 800x600 resolution after rebooting. I went to Device Manager and disabled the driver then the resolution and bits goes back to normal.. Help please? Need a driver that is working perfectly fine!

    Try Nividia site.
I wouldn't disable, I would uninstall the driver; uninstall the program; and take a look at Driver Sweeper from http://www.guru3d.com (and tips) to remove and delete graphics drivers (done in Safe Mode), then install the latest Nvidia.

  • Windows cannot recognize my GeForce 9400

Hi, this problem is driving me crazy, can you please help me?
I've got a MacBook and I needed Autodesk programs so I used bootcamp to install windows on my macbook. Everything's fine and all drivers are installed okay except for my video card. Windows doesn't recognize it. I tried Windows 7, Vista and XP SP2. None of them recognize it.
When I open my 3ds Max program this message shows up: "Unable to create a Direct3D device for your 3D hardware. Please make sure you have the latest version of DirectX installed and have the most recent version of your 3D hardware
    driver installed."
I know it's not installed, but I used all drivers in the DVD that came with my macbook and even download some NVidia drivers but none of them worked. they show this error at the beginning of the installation that says "NVidia could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware"
Please! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi jenramayan,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
At this point I would suggest completely uninstalling iTunes and all of its components in the correct order and installing iTunes fresh again from the apple website. Please use the following article as reference.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
    1. Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
    I hope this helps,

  • MSI N 9400 GT 512MB stops windows 7 from booting

I purchased a MSI N94GT-MD512 GeForce 9400 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready Video Card from newegg (link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127412)  When I got the thing I shut the computer off, installed the card, plugged in my monitor, booted and ran windows update for the driver.  Everything worked perfect - great picture.  I rebooted for some reason and the computer would get to "starting windows" and after that screen just reboot - endless cycle.  I take the video card out and it boots no problem.  If i uninstall the driver, shut off the computer, reinstall the card, and reboot it works - reinstall the driver, reboot, and endless boot cycle again.  I can't figure this out. I'm running 32-bit fresh install of  windows 7 ultimate. Any ideas?

I have no idea of what to try... any insight?
Solved, it was really stupid. For some reason my Multilib repo got disable in the pacman config. So the 32bit nvidia drivers were old...

Yeah, sorry I didn't notice this post sooner, or I could have saved you some trouble shooting.
After testing and discussion on NVIDIA forums with someone else having the same problem, we realized that it is apparently a problem with any Xorg 1.7 release using Xinerama with a monitor positioned Left of another display.
The person I was talking to said he bugged it, and rearranged his monitors right of.  I downgraded to xorg 1.6 and haven't given it too much though since.  I should probably follow up on that and submit a bug to xorg or something...  or you are welcome to!
Works great with Xinerama turned off, which is actually a fine option for me since I don't tend to move windows between displays, except I am using Xinerama to work around an xmonad bug in handling multiple non-Xinerama displays.  I would have never caught it if I hadn't tried turning Xin on to fix the xmonad issue right before the 1.7 upgrade and gotten curious why my setup started going crazy (since I have a monitor with two monitors to the left of it)..
One thing that also works is making your left most monitor screen 0 and setting the other two monitors to be RightOf it, or at least that worked for me.  Unfortunately, my left most monitor is a 46 inch tv that is often turned off or on a different input, so I can't really have it being screen 0.

  • Looking for a better graphic card. Need feedback and suggestion

I'm looking to get a different graphic card but I'm not sure really what to buy,
    These are my computer specs
Computer: Gateway Gt5228 Media center edition
    OS: Windows Xp
Current graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce 6100 PCI Express Slot avaliable
I was wondering what would be a good graphic card that is a good significant upgrade.  I'm looking for one that has a significant increase over what I have right now, it doesn't necessarily have to be the best out there.
I want to be able to play a game call Diablo 3
These are the High and low Performance, that the game will run with.

Honestly I wouldn't spend too much trying to upgrade your computer. It has an aging dual core Athlon processor, and only 2GB of RAM. Even with the highest top of the line card, with that CPU/RAM setup, your computer is probably going to struggle to run it.
