General Inquiry Regarding Error Handling with System Exec.vi

I have a sub vi that uses the System Exec.vi to send SMS messages when triggered. I am confused as to how the error handling works and why all of the errors seem to go to the "standard error" vs the "Error out". The reason I am interested is because I am trying to interrupt the error out of another script to execute a command if error=true.
I have intentionally created an error to test this, however it does not seem that the signal is ever being sent to the error out, only to the standard error.
Any help/explanation as to how this works would be greatly appreciated.

Run a program with system exec.vi

I've got a problem with system exec.
When I launch a simple program like : c:\windows\notepad.exe it works very well.
But when I launch a program with parameters, it doesn't.
here is the command line: c:\bmd.exe a.bmd a.txt ffffffff ffffffff
When I put this command line in a cmd windows it works perfectly. It don't understand...
Any idea?

Hi Julesjay,
I found out that if the command string didn't include the path of the executable (start) the program would fail (at least with matlab executables) So make sure the path of the exe is included in the command string.

Execution of shortcuts with System Exec?

Is it possible to execute a shortcut (typical named "Shortcut to nnnn") with System Exec.vi?

No it isn't because shortcuts are not executable. Shortcuts are files which can be interpreted by the windows explorer.
You can run a shortcut via the shell execute function. Attached is a VI which will call this function. In "Dateiname" you have to supply the filename with extension. In "Verzeichnis" you have to supply the folder where the file is. You can set the verb to "open" which will run the application and "print" which will cause the application to print the file if it can. "Rückgabe" is the return from the shell execute function.
You can use each file extension to start the registered application for the file. If you give a file with the name Test.vi you will start LabVIEW in the same way you will start it like you have double clicked th
e file in the explorer.

Sand Box has stopped working error when using System Exec.vi with wait until completion is true

I get the following error message in Windows 7 "Sand Box has stopped working" when using System Exec.vi with wait until completion set to true, if I set it to false there is no error message.

mmm well System Exec.vi simulates a DOS command window, can you run the sandbox from the cmd window using the same commands without any errors?

Why I get an error when I call Snipping Tool with System Exec?

Hi to everyone, I want to call Snipping Tool from LabVIEW using the System Exec VI, but I always get an error 2; this not happen when I call another executables like calculator or paint; I hope someone can help me or tell me why this error occurs.

I am guessing you are using the command: SnippingTool or SnippingTool.exe, just as you would use mspaint; but it is giving you Error 2; this is a Windows Issue more than a LabVIEW one, ,you can try using command:
C:\Windows\Sysnative\snippingtool.exe;
it worked for me; i found this info in the KB below.

Error handling with Sync RFC

Hi @ all,
I have following scenario: a BPM doing some stuff on DB and map this values to a RFC request (sync) to a SAP R/3 system. Within this RFC I define 2 exceptions.
I did map the RFC exception in interface mapping to a fault message.
In BPM I put my RFC call into a Block with an Exception "RfcError" and insert a Exceptionbranch - which should send a email.
Put anyhow it doesn't work - every RFC exception ends as an error in SMBX_MONI...
Anyone a idea how to solve it??

I wanted to compare RFC, Proxy and Idocs on the basis of the amount of customisation required in ECC when sending data from ECC to XI using the above stated means and also the error handling provided in these methods.

we use proxy in sap 6.0 version or higher.
Basically used for adapter less communication
& very high volume of data has to be transfered.
Step for Configuration fo IDOC in R/3
1) RFC Destination (SM59)
a) Choose create.
b) Specify the name of the RFC destination
c) Select connection type as 3 and save
d) In the technical settings tab enter the details SAP SID/URL and system number#.
e) Enter the Gateway host as same details above SID/URL.
f) Gateway service is 3300+system number#.
g) In the Logon /Security tab, enter the client user & Password details of Destination system.
h) Test the connection and remote logon.
2) Create Port (IDX1)
a) Select create new button
b) Enter the port name as SAP+SID (The starting char should be SAP)
c) Enter the destination client.
d) Enter the RFC Destination created in SAP R/3 towards other system.
e) Save
3) Load Meta Data for IDOC (IDX2)
a) Create new
b) IDOC Message Type
c) Enter port created in IDX1.
SAP R/3
1) RFC Destination (SM59)
a) Choose create.
b) Specify the name of the RFC destination

a) Create New
b) Create the Partner no. name as same the logical system name of the destination system.
c) Select Partner type LS
d) Enter details for Type: US/USER, Agent, and Lang.
e) Click on the + button to select the message type.
f) Select Partner no. and LS which ever create above.
g) Select Message type
h) Select Process code related to the Message type.
I) save.
In SLD System Landscape Directory
TS for R/3 (Logical system):-Assign the client name created in R/3 as Logical system Name.
Ts for Third Party (Logical system):-
BS for SAP R/3 (Logical system):- Assign the client name created in R/3 as Logical system Name.

How to capture keyboard strokes while focus is on an external app. Opened with system exec

Hi to the Forum,
I have an application that runs an external app. Through system exec, while this application is open the user needs to input a 6 digit serial number using the keyboard, I need to capture in parallel that information on my main VI in order to perform some information validations, such as the six digits were entered, the serial number is not repeated etc. I have read other post about the same issue but did not found a practical way to achieve a solution, please help with an example of how to do that as I'm on the final stage of the project.

Report and Alert don't executed in the error handler with a JMS proxy service

Hi,
I'm working with OSB 11.1.1.4.0 and I'm facing a problem with the error handler of my JMS proxy service.
My error handler contains two main elements :
- a Report action
- an Alert with a JMS destination defined
When the business service failed the message remain in the queue. It's the expected behavior.
The problem is :
- the report is missing
- the alert is raised but missing in the JMS destination defined in the Alert setting.
I've noticed if I add a Reply with Failure or Success, Report and Alert are successfully executed.
Unfortunately the message don't remain in the JMS queue.
What can I do in order to have my report/alert done and the JMS transaction rollback in order to keep the message in the queue ?
I've already met this problem in the past with alsb v3 and my solution was to add Service Callout in the error handler in order to externalize these actions.
This solution is not convenient and I hope another solution is possible.

General QUestion about error handling

I am writing my own VI's to communicate with my hardware. Each one of the VI's incorporate numerous error checking routines to detect if the desired operation completed correctly. If error(s) are detected with a VI, the "Bundle by Name" VI is used to update the Natiinal Instruments error cluster with the appropriate info each time a error occurs.
What I am finding is that the VI error cluster contains the last error found, instead of the first error found. Please be aware that I am assuming (we know what that stands for) is that the National Instruments error cluster is accumulative, so if I add four errors to the cluster, then the error cluster contains at least four errors.
So how do I find the first error that was entered into the error cluster. I have found a vi called "Find First Error:, but I am confused (as usual) on how to get what I want. So I am asking for "divine guidance" or a kick in behind from the Labview wizards on how to correctly handle errors.

The cluster is a standard cluster and is not accumulative.
Usually, the way to handle this is to check the error in terminal and if it is has an error to pass the error instead of executing the code. That way, when you have an error, the rest of the code does not execute. Here's an example:

ALE Error Handling with Workflow

Hi All,
I have some issues with using workflows with idocs:
In our process codes , the business object , start event for error handling and success event has been configured.
Now if the workflow_result is 0 then success event is triggered and if workflow_result = 99999 then start event is triggered.
I have two qquestons:
1. How are these events triggered as I did not find any code in the F.M> to triggerethem.
2. What is the purpose of End event.
Apart from this , is there any area where workflows can be used with IDOCS.

In case I am creating a custom F.M. to process idoc data then I can use the F>M> to create the event.
However In case the standard F.M. is being used and workflow_result is set to 9999 in it and I have consigured the start event to it,in that case I will not be able to use thie F.M> to trigger the workflow.

Error handling with selecting new lines

Hi All,
Please help me on this.
Step 1 : Enter transaction MD07.
               Material : 312507
              MRP Area : w8prod
               PLant : w8
Step 2 : Double click on "PurRqs".
Step 3 : Click on -> Purchase order button.
While recording i will follow this procedure,if i again execute the same scripts it will double click on same "PurRqs".
But what i needed is that it has to click on next line.ie.,new "PurRqs".
How will i solve this Error handling?

Double click on PurRqs(0013201371) and try to execute.
My question is if i try to record with this PurRqs(0013201371) then if i again execute it has to take new PurRqs(0013201372).
How to handle this parametrization.

-14001 error occurs from system exec.vi only on one machine

I have a LV application that calls an executable that is bundled with the application using the System Exec command.
I have tested it on our computers both pre-compiled and executable with no problems. It has also worked fine on
a variety of customer computers.
But ONE computer from one customer returns a -14001 error. It is a chinese language XP machine.
Any info on this error? Any idea how I might debug it?

Error 14001 LabVIEW: Invalid refnum.
Is the customer
doing anything with DDE server, client, or functions? In every case
that we have seen this error at National Instruments it was when a
customer is using DDE. What is the operating system? In more than one
case it was suggested that it was a problem with the operating system.
In one case the customer said that it ended up beiong a Microsoft issue. You could also try contacting Microsoft and ask them if they can tell you how to set the NetDDE permissions differently.
