GENERAL INSTALLATION ERROR (MAC)

Okay, so like everyone else has said I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING that has been posted thus far.
I have a Mac running 10.8.5 and I can't get around this general installation error that pops up every time I'm at 50%.  I do not want to download something so that I can download THIS.  That's ridiculous.  What can I do to have any flash player back on my computer??
I've uninstalled older version as advised (by downloading something of course), and it didn't work.
I've tried to run it through terminal
I've downloaded Firefox instead of Safari and it didn't make a difference
I've followed links to other installers that have been posted....
I'm at a loss.  Please HELP.

Your troubles aren't coming from Flash Player.
You're missing a file that was made visible by the 10.8.5 update. Hundreds of thousands of Mac users all over the world deleted it, not knowing what it was. It causes this when it's missing.
Download this file: "Secrets" pereference pane
And this one: mach_kernel.zip
Install Secrets, and open your System Preferences.
Open the Secrets Preference Pane, and check "Show hidden files"
You'll need to press the "Quit this" button,
and restart Finder, by right clicking the Dock icon.
Then, place the mach_kernel.zip file in the Mac HD directory,
and unzip it. You should see a "faded" mach_kernel file appear.
Trash the zip file.
Reopen your System Preferences and uncheck "Show Hidden files".
Instead of quitting Finder and relaunching it, reboot your Mac.
Your Flash Player installer won't quit anymore.

  • General Installation Error, mac 10.8.2

I downloaded the latest flash player from the abode website (for mac, safari, english). Download is fine. Installation proceeds to about 50% completion and then terminates with a "General Installation Error". Here's the configuration:
Mac intel core 2 duo 2.26 GHz
    OS 10.8.2
    Safari 6.0.2
I downloaded the flash player uninstaller, and it reported a successful uninstall. Also checked for directories in /Library/Internet Plugins and the (Disabled) folder. No flash player components left.
Checked pop-up blocker (it's not set), system preferences (download apps from any source is checked). Also disabled norton auto-protect. Install still fails.
I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There doesn't appear to be a solution to these particular error messages from Adobe. I have followed the guidance from Adobe.com (uninstalled and re-installed) and then followed the guidance in this forum post and others using the terminal route, all without luck. I have no Flash functionality (other than in Chrome) which is extremely annoying.
My setup is MacBookPro Mavericks 10.9. Firewall is off (temporarily). No virus software. No remnants of Flash as far as I can tell. Logged into a administrator account.
Here's the log for "flash" from console:

  • Keep getting "general installation error" message Mac OSX 10.8.5/Safari 6.0.5

keep getting "general installation error" message Mac OSX 10.8.5/Safari 6.0.5 Followed all the instructions for uninstalling and clean installing. Just wont install

Make sure you have it set to "show hidden files"
Check BOTH places and you have to restart Finder
Press "Quit This" and then go to the Finder Dock icon and right click it
    Select "Open"
    Open TIme Machine
Go back to September 28 or earlier.
You'll see the mach_kernel file in the Mac HD directory
(I can't show it in the TM because screenshots don't work while it's open but here it is in my MAc HD)
Right click it and select "Restore to"
Then, when it goes back to Finder, choose the Mac HD directory and click OK.
It will place the mach_kernel back where it was and you can install software again
DON'T FORGET to go back and hide your files (and restart Finder) again, or you'll have a mess with the clutter of hidden files everywhere.

  • What does "General Installation Error" mean?

I was attempting to install Flash Player  ver. 11.9.900.117 on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X v. 10.8.5. The installation fails with the message "General Installation Error." What is the cause of this error and how do I fix it?

I'm not sure if I deleted it or not, but having read several of the messages posted on this thread I did the on-line re-installation of the OS just in case I did unwittingly. After re-installing the OS, I'm now able to install the latest version of Flash Player.
The upshot is don't delete that mach_kernel file!
    Mystery solved!
P.S. - Has anyone posted or passed this onto Apple?

It seems that the installer is unable to remove/replace NPSWF32.dll
    Try the following:
    go to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/909550 and download
the 32-bit uninstaller [save to disk]
the 32-bit installer(s) [save to disk]
close all browser windows, then run the downloaded uninstaller
    restart Windows
go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash and delete any remaining files in there
    now run the downloaded installer

  • Installation Error - Mac OSX Lion

I got the following installation error (four attempts same error).  I launched Activity Monitor as instructed to terminate the indicated activity, but it wasn't listed as running.  Any clues?

You should try resetting the PRAM by rebooting while simultaneously holding down the Command-Option-P-R keys until you hear the Second chimes.  That may clear it.  However, in all honesty, the message you're getting does sound like either a very corrupted or failing hard drive.  You may need to take it in to Apple.
    Hope this helps

You came to the right place....
Your troubles aren't coming from Flash Player.
You're missing a file that was made visible by the 10.8.5 update (mach_kernel). Hundreds of thousands of Mac users all over the world deleted it, not knowing what it was. It causes this when it's missing.
Download this file: "Secrets" pereference pane
It'll allow you to see "hidden files" on your Mac.
    And this one: mach_kernel.zip
It's the one that was deleted.

  • "General Installation Error" installing Flash Player for Mac

Even after a complete un-install (using Adobe un-installer) and restart, it only installs to 6% to 50%. OS is up to date. It failed on MacBook Pro and Mac Mini, both under 3 years old.

Since a couple of months, Adobe Flash Player updates do not work anymore on my Mac OS 10.8.5 (while uninstalling and freshly installing the update does). I wonder why Adobe doesn't get this right.
Uh... that would mostly be because Adobe DIDN'T delete your mach_kernel file...

  • Adobe photoshop cs5 extended installation error (Mac); Inconsistency in installer database

Just bought CS5 Extended and ran into this problem on my Mac Book Pro running macos-x 10.6.4.
I tried to restart a few times but to no avail;....I also downloaded the advisor application and it did not turn anything up; no issues encountered......Any ideas?

Thanks for the suggestion djnickatnight.  I ran the cleaner and it seems that I will *finally* be able to install CS5
I am running 10.6.8 OS on a MBP attempting to install CS5.  I installed LR3 in no time, but CS5 has been a nightmare!
I hope Adobe reads these forums to understand the level of frustration and time expended installing their products.
Quick list of Adobe issues I've encountered, with fixes as I waded through the process:
Find where to download software you've purchased at Adobe-  hard to do since Downloads menu only shows current offerings (LR4, CS6, etc)Not obvious, had to google to find out:  You must look under Your Orders, where you will find a download button.
What the heck is Akamai Download Manager?   I decided to give Adobe the benefit of a doubt and downloaded it.  Akamai buried itself so deeply into your machine that I had to do a search to find out that it was now inside my System Preferences (not a location for an app!).  Weird.
Click on Akamai and find . . . . .NOTHING!!!  Ta Da!   And no instructions or menu (Yes, I read the ReadMe.pdf.  No help there either).   Litterally, there is an empty box, with no instruction how to begin the CS5 download.  Nothing.
Finally after trial and error I discover that the FIRST time you click Akamai Download Mgr. it installs inself,  the SECOND time you click the same link, it will begin to download the *.dmg file you seek.  How obscure is that???  Click same link, but get different results.  Lame.
After all of that I got a variety of input/output errors, and hang ups.  This is a on a machine that was reformatted with new OS the day before, BTW.
More google searches, gnashing of teeth, etc.
Finally found this page, which recommended to use CSC cleaner:  http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html  This seems to work and I am now nearly installed.    WHEW!
Bottom line, it was way too difficult to install CS5.   The Akamai interface desperately needs documentation.  The install should not take two days and multiple hours to read up and try to get lucky and actually get what I paid for.  Please.

  • MacBook Pro DVD OS X Installation Error - 'Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer.'

Hello people, I just baught the Late 2009 MacBook Pro 13" off ebay second hand as it was good price. The previous owners data was left on there and it was too much of a hassle to erase as it was impossible to change the system side of these problems (keyring password, usernames, home folder name, macbook name). In the end i decided i was going to format the hard drive (which also had Windows 7 Ultimate installed via BootCamp) and reinstall Mac OS X 10.6.3 from the original install media (Gray DVD not retail). After formatting I attempted to boot from media (which worked) and proceed with the install. Just as I though everything was going fine I recieved an error with a yellow triangle stating 'Mac OS X cannot be installed on the computer.' . At this stage I was very shocked and alarmed and didnt know what to do as Ive never used a Mac before and it was my first 2 hours using one. I rung up Apple support even though I didnt have AppleCare and they did help me to some extent becuase they said I had the incorrect install media. I then contacted the seller who immediatly replayed and told me that those disks (OS X and Application DVD) both came with the MacBook (They both said 'MacBook Pro 13" on the front).
Any ideas how to resolve the problem?
    Thanks, Charlie

If you do have the right disc, then partition the drive in Disk Utility with a single Mac OS volume (as opposed to just erasing the existing Mac OS volume.) The Windows partition will be removed. You can reinstall Windows later if you wish, assuming you have the retail Windows disc that you should also have received from the seller. If you don't have that disc, and the seller is still using his copy of Windows, then your Windows installation is unlicensed.
