General Question about how to encrypt-decrypt and Digital signatures

Hi,
We're developing classes for encrypting and signing a txt message and for decrypting and validating the signature of the message. Everything works properly but I have several questions, they're not about code:
1st We're encrypting the message following this way:
-generating a number which is gonna be the password
-encrypting the message in AES with this password
-encrypting the with the public certificate of the receiver the password
-We pack everything, encrypted message+ encrypted password in a File with public key of the receiver.
The questions we have for this issue are:
-Is it okay? or can I do it more efficiently.
-is it a standard for developing encrypting software? We've followed java api tutorials
-Can we decrypt this message using comercial software? it just plain text(of course if we have the private key)
2nd We take this message and we sign it with our private key
-We use CMS classes from bouncycastle libraries
The questions we have for this issue are:
- How can I check , with comercial software, whether this message is signed ok and is valid.
- How can I know whether this way of signing is in compliance with PKCS7-CMS standard?

The file multiscreen.html apepars to do the following:
It tests if the browser is running on a "hand held device".
This means it looks to see if the device name includes:
"blackberry","android","iphone","ipad","symbian","smartphone","ios","windows ce","webos"
If the answer is Hand-held then the HTML5 published module is loaded. Otherwise it loads swf.
I can see no check that Flash player is loaded before making the choice, nor does it check the compatability of the HTML5 on the "hand held" device. In other words it isn't very "smart"

Round trip workflow with proxies between Premiere and AE / a more general question about how these programs work?

Hi all,
I'm new to editing with proxies in Premiere and have some questions about how to handle the relationship with After Effects. Say I have a rough cut (with proxies) and I want to send it to AE to do some effects. The simplest thing to do seems to be to replace the proxies with the originals in Premiere, send the project to AE and do my thing. But if I then want to send the project back to Premiere, it will involve the original files, which are too machine-intensive for me to edit. In theory, it seems like there should be a way to send the project with original footage to AE, do effects, send it back to Premiere, and then replace it with proxies to do further editing while retaining the effects.
This leads to a confusion about how AE works. When I do an effect, am I correct in assuming that it does nothing to the original file? If that's the case, it seems like it shouldn't matter (in the editing stage) what file AE "applies" an effect to (proxy or original). But I feel like there's a hitch in this workflow. The same question could also be asked about going back and forth in Speed Grade.
Perhaps there is no real answer to this and the best option is to save effects and grading for after I have picture lock, but sometimes that's not entirely possible or convenient, etc.
Hopefully this makes some sense—It's a little hard to explain.

I'm creating a adobe forms which need employee to sign on the form. I use signature field at my form. However, i don't know how to create a new signature and insert in the signature field.

you said you have your digital signature in
BMP format? That means Bitmap and would mean you are actually talking about a picture! THIS IS NOT A DIGITAL SIGNATURE!
A digital signature is a cryptographic key (aka public key cryptography) that is used to digitally sign a document, or at least a hash value derived from the document. Digitally signing means, applying the key in a well defined way (this is the algorithm used) to the document or hash value. You do this with your private key and the receiver of the document can then use your public key (which you can distribute in any way you want, even unsecure) to unencrypt the hash value. If this succeeds the receiver knows that the document was signed by you.
This is because both keys are mathematically related in such a way, that what one key encrypted can only be decrypted by the corresponding other key and by no other key. You even can´t decrypt a document with the same key it was encrypted with, this is the difference to symmetric encryption - please have a look at help.sap.com and search for digital signatures.
The named formats (afs, pfx and p12) are ways of coding the key, together with information about your person, such as email address and information about validity of the key into a
certificate. This type of certificate is then called a x.509 certificate and is the same you might have seen when connecting to a secure webserver such as the one of your bank website.
Signing a form with such a certificate provides for mathematically and therefore business related proove of a users identity.
In case you are really using a bitmap, this cannot work and would not serve you any good.
Ask yourself this question: I want to make sure that the form was signed by a specific person. How can I make sure that the signing can only be done by the person pretending to have done so?
A bitmap contains a picture, probably of the persons handwritten signature. How can I make sure that this picture was NOT recreated in MS Paint or Photoshop by someone else?
The answer is:
you can't! Therefore this way of prooving identity is useless.
You need to provide your users with digital signatures, put these in the certificate cache of your IE. If a user then clicks on the signing field, the private key is used to digitally sign the form - create a hash value of the form and encrypt it with the private key. After the form is send back to the server or you, you use the corresponding public key to decrypt the hash value and, as said above, if this succeeds, identity of the signer is proven.
THIS IS AN OVERSIMPLIFICATION! You might want to take a look at Adobe Reader Credentials.

Sunfire V20z...general questions about VRM's, CPU's, and memory speed

I've got a Sun V20z that i'd like to get going, but have a few questions. I've only got 1 memory VRM for the server, and 2 CPU VRM's. Can I run a single CPU until I find another VRM for the board? I was looking at going with an Opteron 248. Also, I've got about sixteen 1GB PC2100 sticks of ECC registered ram i'd like to use, but the docs say it only handles PC2700. Does that mean it can't handle anything FASTER, or simply that NOTHING other than PC2700 will work? I was planning on sticking my Opteron in the CPU 0 slot, along with 4 sticks of that ram. Thanks for the help, you guys helped me with my Enterprise 3500 server last fall and it's humming along great!

Each cpu will need its own VRM.
That is a necessary component, to regulate the voltage
flowing through the cpu itself.
Go ahead and run it on a single cpu for now.
Install the second one when you have all the needed parts.
I would expect your RAM to just fail to function.
PC2100 memory doesn't clock fast enough for the system's memory bus.
The V20z System Specifications page in the SSH notes
that the computer is designed to use faster modules.
I would expect you to observe errors immediately at bootup.
If a system was designed to use PC2100 RAM and you install
PC2700 mudules to the slots, they would work very well.
Think of that as underclocking the RAM.
However your circumstances are the reverse -- the computer's data bus
would push your RAM beyond its design specifications.
Perhaps others can also contribute their experiences with this.
I've not had the opportunity to run a V20z, personally.

How to export & reconstruct a digital signature

I would like to submit a reader-enabled pdf form with a digital signature from within a browser.
I'm currently using CoSign Digital Signature to successfully create the signature. I have created a test form with Acrobat X Pro and assigned the "Submit a Form" action to the submit button. The form is configured to submit to a perl cgi, with the Export Format set to FDF with the following settings...
- Field Data
- Incremental changes to the PDF
The post data is received as the POSTDATA parameter and printed back to the browser as content-type: application/vnd.fdf. However, when the fdf is printed back to the browser the digital signature is not included in the signature field. The rest of the form is populated successfully. If I log the POSTDATA value, I can see what appears to be the digital signature.
According to the Adobe docs...
"FDF Exports as an FDF file. You can select one or more of the available options: user-entered data, comments, and incremental changes to the PDF file. The Incremental Changes To The PDF option is useful for exporting a digital signature in a way a server can easily read and reconstruct."
My question is, how do I reconstruct the digital signature so that I can save it offline within the PDF file?

You can't sign a blank document simply by importing an FDF. The data is in the FDF, but the appened saves (aka incremental change) would have to be extracted from the FDF (e.g., using the no longer supported FDF Toolkit) and then concatenated with the original blank form that was used by the person who filled-in and signed. I can't say for sure this will work any more anyway as Acrobat/Reader has changed the way this works and does a Save As (as opposed to Save) when a document is signed, so there is no incremental change data any longer.

General question about iTunes Match and multiple libraries

Hello to everyone,
I have a general question about the iTunes Match service, which is available since yesterday in my country (Italy). Currently my library situation is the following:
Computer A (desktop, Windows 7): "big" iTunes library (about 20 GB), at the moment not associated with my Apple ID
Computer B (MacBook Air 2011): "small" iTunes library (about 5 GB), associated with my Apple ID
At the moment, both my iOS devices (iPhone 4 and iPad 2) are synchronized with the smaller library on the MacBook Air.
Question is as follows: should I subscribe to iTunes Match, would it be possible to upload the "big" library (provided I associate it with my Apple ID) to iCloud while keeping my devices synchronized with the "small" one?
Ideally, at the end of the day, the situation should be the following: both iOS devices with music from the small library + possibility of downloading songs from iCloud (coming from the big one). Is this possible?
Maybe the question sounds stupid, but I want to be sure about this before paying for the service.

Yes, you could also associate your larger library with iTunes match if you associated your Apple ID with it. However any purchases in the library made from another Apple ID will not be matched with iTunes much.
If both libraries are part of iTunes match, then all your devices will see all of the content from both libraries, which content you choose to have on those devices and which you have accessible via iTunes match is entirely up to you.

I have a theory. You don’t want to controll your car, you want to controll somebody who is driving the car. Volvo XC 60 is a nice family car, usually used by married men between age of 35-45, probably with small children, so it’s very unlikely that you want to controll your teanage kid, mainly because probably even if you would give him/her to drive the car in the neighborhoud, I don’t think that he/she would be „several hundred miles away”… If your child is not young teneage anymore, and he/she has his/her own life, but you want to control him/her, that is sick… So I am convinced that you want to controll your husband who probably travelling often! I have a general question about email sync and BlackBerry smartphones. Are there any devices that allow email syncing with a Microsoft Exchange 2007 system that do not require the BlackBerry Enterprise server?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
If the Exchange server has anything that faces the internet (OWA, POP, IMAP), then BIS can be used to handle email (only email...calendar and contacts require BES to sync OTA).
Or, a PC, inside the network (but with an internet path) and logged into the email server (using Outlook), can be left running, using the RIM Desktop Software's Desktop Redirector capability to forward messages to the BB.
Those are basically the options.

A few questions about how ZPM works.

We have patch management (in ZCM 11.2.2), but honestly don't use it much. I have a few questions about how it works that might make me use it more, if I understand it more.
If I deploy a patch (or a set of patches), it creates a bundle for that deployment. That bundle seems to include actions that deploy the actual patch bundles (correct?). Do I have to recreate a new deployment bundle every time I want to push a new patch? i.e. If I push a Java update, and a month later, a new one comes out, do I build out a new bundle with the new patch in it, or do I modify the old one?
Once the patch is deployed, can I safely delete that deployment bundle, or should they just pile up?
Is there a way to "auto-approve" patches? Lets say I always want a group of machines to have the latest Adobe Flash Player patches. Can I set up ZPM to automatically cache and push the latest patches for a specific product, or do I have to manually remediate each patch? (I'm thinking of how MS's WSUS does "auto-approval")
I see most packages aren't cached in list, but occasionally, a patch is cached without me touching it. Why? Can I change what gets automatically cached?

For #1, (assuming you're not using baselines), you would check the new version of the patch (vulnerability) and do a new deployment.
#2 - once you're satisified that the machines are deployed (or the best to your ability) you can delete the DEPLOYMENT package. It doesn't delete the actual vulnerability bundles to my knowledge. That's why it's a good idea to name your bundle deployments with something meaningful, IMO (and maybe include a nice desription).
#3 - currently I don't believe this is possible. I know you can probably configure it to auto-download the patches, but not auto-deploy everything. Given the propensity for software to wreck other things (hello MS .NET patches), this is probably not a good idea. At least I'd never auto-download and auto-deploy any patches without testing them first, and certainly take my servers a little more cautiously than my workstations.
#4 - I think you can configure what's cached, but I could be wrong.
I know there's a lot of improvements coming in the pipeline, and it doesn't hurt to "vote" for your enhancements via the enhancement system (more work for Shaun--haha)

I have friends all over Europe, does it matter what number they use to call me? Nope! All incoming calls are free for me.
The only time you ever have to worry about which number is if you get charged for incoming domestic/international calls.
You can tag their number (work/home/iphone) and that may show on the CallerID accordingly.
It should show, John Doe
underneath, work/home/mobile

I needed a certain App called Viber and tried to download it.
I didn't work and it told me to download it from my computer (Macbook pro) Itunes,
which i did, then i synched (my error) my iphone to my mac, then it erased all my apps from my iphone.
My question is how can i find and redownload all my older apps ?
Do i have to go find them manually and download them again?

Ihave a Mac Pro with a .75 TB and 1 TB drive. It also has a 1 TB 2ndinternal drive. My current external drive is too small so I'll begetting a 1.5 TB or 2 TB drive.
Obviouslythe new larger 2 TB drive will backup everything on the Mac Prointernal drive with Time Machine. But there will be 1 TB of space leftover going to waste.
ShouldI partition the external drive so that the TM portion will be 1 TB andthe use the remaining extra partition for additional file backups withCarbon Copy?

I tried searching around on the new Apple discussion forum, but I find it much harder to use than the old forum I used to use.

The problem with terabyte drives is that that a 3 TB is about as big as you can get without going into RAID territory. Ideally, a Time Machine drive should be 3 times as large as all the drives you are backing up. So, if you have 2.75 TB of internal storage, you should have 8 TB of Time Machine space.
Of course, that is "should". If your TB drives are mostly empty, then you can get away with something 3 times the size of your used disk space. Just remember that you are pushing it. Linc is right about Time Machine needing space to work.
It is unlikely that you have regular churn on 2.75 TB of disk. I suggest identifying which drives and folders have the most activity and excluding those drives and directories that don't change much. It would be better to archive the data that doesn't change often and keep it out of Time Machine. Then you may be able to get away with a 2 TB Time Machine drive.
