Generating CW /- CCW /- for step motor drive through NI USB-6212

Dear Madame/Sir,
I'm working with a FASTECH step motor drive. I want to generate CW+/- and CCW+/- signals  for this drive.
I want to ask you how to connect CW+/- and CCW+/- wires to USB 6212 ports.
Thank you advance!

Hi,
You may need a motion controler to control your stepper.
I am not sure that your Daq Card is the good device.

  • Choice of the interface module, for step motor

    Hello,
I would to control a step motor through the Labview software (control speed, direction of rotation, number of steps ...) Thus, I would like to know which module interface NI would be the best suited to my engine, for the control and the electric supply.
    The engine is a : Superior Electric, type M061; 7V, 7A
Furthermore, I also looking for all documents (examples, tutorials) that can help me to program the VI on Labview : hardware installation, programming on Labview .
    Many thanks for your help,
    Regards,
    A. Benjamin

    Hi,
Are you looking for the Software interface only? Do you have
the drive and controller already?  Are you
looking for a PCI solution or a cRio? NI offers different solutions. Check Motion Control from NI. Also here are some
links to help you understand the concept. When you decide what approach you
want to go, let us know and we can help you get started. Also, many examples will
be installed when you install the NI motion drivers.

  • Control Step Motor in LabVIEW via Step Motor Driver

I am looking to control a Step Motor (P/N 4023-828) with a Si5580 Driver, both from Applied Motion Products, with a LabView VI.  Applied Motion provides a simple utility program which accepts SCL commands to drive the motor and recieve information about the motor from the driver via a serial connection.
Preferably, the LabVIEW VI would have an input field, and a running list of output responses.  I am kind of a novice with LabVIEW, but I know how to create simple VIs.  Any reference to tutorials which explain setting up this type of control would also be appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hello Spike22283,
From your description, if the driver you received from Applied Motion
Products is a DLL and you know the API for the driver (the inputs and
outputs for the functions defined in the DLL), then you can use a Call
Library Function Node in LabVIEW to get the set up you desire.
In particular, you would first configure the Call Library Function Node
to call the particular function in the DLL.  Then wire a string
control into the Call Library Function Node, which would be the input
command to drive your motor. Then depending on the data type of the
return value of your DLL function, you can wire an string indicator to
the output of the Call Library Function Node and see the output
    responses.
As a reference, I would suggest looking at the shipping example Call DLL.VI (Help >> Find Examples >> Search for "DLL").
This example VI allows you to browse examples of external code (C and
C++) data types and how they interface with LabVIEW. Each data type has
an example VI that demonstates the use of the Call Library Function
Node. To open the example VI for a particular data type, select that
data type from the list on the left and then press the "Open Example VI
for Current Data Type" button. The function prototype, the function's
source code, and any specific details about this example will appear in
    the External Code Information cluster.
    Hope that helps.

  • Why is it that my powerbook does not recognize when i insert external hard drives through the USB 2.0 port

when i insert an external harddrive through the usb port, my mac doesnot recognise that its even there but when a flash disk is inserted, it recognises it perfectly.
    why does that happen?

Michael is on the right track. Some external hard drives lacking their own power supply simply cannot get enough power from a single USB port. It is most noticeable in the "name brand" drive that the office supply and computer superstores put on sale every other week. Their chipsets seem to be better optimized for Windows than Macs.
Flash drives work because the don't have a power-hugry motor that must turn.
There are two easy and inexpensive cures that allow you to keep your current drive:
get a "Y-cable" that let you connect one drive to two of the computers UWB ports. Example:1 Meter USB 2.0 A to 5 Pin Mini B Cable - Auxiliary USB "Y" Power Design for external hard drives.
get a self-powered USB hub. It has a separate power supply that boosts what goes to the drive. Example: Macally TriHub - 4 Port Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Hub for Mac & PC
If you need the computer and drive to work together in an environment lacking a power source for the hub, and the y-cable isn't an option because you have too few available USB ports, then your only option is to replace the current drive with one better optimized for Macs, like these:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/on-the-go
This particular one has the option of running on power from the computer's USB ports or, with an optional power supply, wall power. A good compromise for both remote and desktop use.

  • Generate puls for stepping motor

    Hi ,
    I have a PCMCIA-Card "DAQCard-6036E" which is conected to a "SCB-68" 68-Pin Shielded Connector Block.
I only want a digital signal of 5V where I can control these pulses.
Sounds easy but I am still searching for a resolution.
How can I generate an control the signal during it works.
It would be nice if somebody can give an example.
    Thank you

    hi there
you can use the CTR0 or CTR1 outputs to generate TTL-pulses with a given frequency and shape. see ..\examples\DAQmx\Counter\.. for some examples. you can change the frequency of the output with a property node.

  • H bridge with pot for DC motor driver

I'm trying to make a driver for a DC motor with pot as the direction and speed control. I have simulated my circuit however, I encounter problem with the increment of the output voltage and current of the driver. the increments are good from pot percent of 5% - 95% however when it reaches either 0% or 100% the output greatly increases (i.e 90% - 0.5V, 95% - 0.6V, 100% - 2.5V). I'm just worrying that this will result to a sudden RPM boost as it reaches either 100% or 0%. I'll attach a picture of the circuit. Thanks!

    Lawrey,
Learning to design circuits is a process which takes some time.  I have been at it for 40+ years and am still learning.  Simulators are really analysis tools.
I think of design as an iterative process. Start with a specification. In your example you apparently want to drive a small motor with a continuously variable magnitude (speed, torque, power?) and direction. You do not have any feedback. Next you select a circuit configuration, such as your H-bridge. With such a configuration you can do some simple analyses (before selecting transistors) of maximum voltage, current, and power dissipation at each transistor. This would be similar to the analysis I posted above, but somewhat simplified (ignoring base currents and hFE for example). The values determined from this preliminary analysis can be used to select suitable transistors. You know the current rating has to be larger than the maximum motor current and the power rating will be larger than that of the devices you initially selected.
At this point you have a preliminary design with some specific transistors selected. Performing an analysis like mine will likely show that single transistors in each leg of the H-bridge will not work and that you need a Darlington configuration in all four positions (unless you want a 10 ohm, 20 watt pot).  So now you need four more transistors. A few calculations on resistor values will give you a complete circuit.
At this point you run the simulation. Check the results, first to verify that it performs as you expect, and, second, carefull,y to see if any component has exceeded its ratings. Many simulation models do not accurately represent the ratings limits. For any part of the circuit which does not perform well or which exceeds ratings you modify the design and then repeat.  Just think about how much more difficult this was before simulation software existed and all those calculations were done manually.

  • Connect Encore with external hard drive through micro USB OTG cable

    Hi
I am using a micro USB OTG cable to connect the encore with a (get this) toshiba 1TB external hard drive, but when i connect the two, the hard drive connects and then reconnects every 5 to 10 seconds ... and this goes on constantly. This is getting beyond frustrating. Any suggestions ?

Yea, it's not gonna power anything that needs 2 USB ports as such need more than 500ma. There may well be a low power USB2 spec for tablets Jerry, but what I meant to refer to us the common 500ma standard USB port spec that device manufacturers generally expect. Sorry for being misleading. Basically one can expect issues from any port designed lower than the 500ma spec but I am sure the Encore is designed for the 'full' 500ma, so any example putting out less is below the designed spec. I still suspect the OTG cable first though.

  • How can I control stepping motor with PCI-7344 & UMI-7764? And I want to know the simplest circuit that I can do by myself?

Now I don't want to by commercial stepping motor driver, I want to do it by myself. I want to know the simplest driver circuit to drive and control my stepping motor (+5V 4 phases).

From the 7344's perspective, in open loop stepper mode, the only necessary outputs are the pulse train for steps and a TTL flag for direction. You can also set it for CW/CCW mode, which will output two separate pulse trains: one for clockwise motion, one for counter-clockwise motion.
If you only need to decode the signals into four phases and not amplify them above 5V, then a small IC might work for you (as long as you don't need a lot of current). A reconfigurable FPGA could be programmed to decode the incoming signal and output the four phases pretty easily. However, I honestly believe your best bet is just to buy a recommended amplifier for the motors.

    Mor,
Ok.  I had to download the manual for your device, but I think I can help you out.
    1.  Do you have the 9 pin D-Sub connector that provides the Auxilary Incremental Encoder, or do you have the 15 pin D-Sub connector for the sinusoidal commutation, or do you have both?  I would recommend the Auxilary Incremental Encoder if possible.  I need to know which one you have in order to help you completely setup your system.
    2.  You need to connect pin 3 of the drive to pin 1 of the Axis 1 Control connector on the UMI.
    3.  You need to connect pin 4 of the drive to pin 9 of the Axis 1 Control connector on the UMI.
    4.  You need to connect pin 4 of the drive to pin 8 of the drive.
    5.  You will need to change the settings on the drive so that it know you are in Torque mode instead of velocity mode (CP.10).
    6.  Depending on what you are going to use for feedback (Auxilary Incremental Encoder/Sinusoidal Commutation) you will need to hook the proper D-Sub connecter to the UMI,  the instructions on how to do this can be found in the 735x user manual, which can be found through the link below...
    http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/371060a.pdf
NOTE:  I recommend you use the Auxilary Incremental Encoder if possible, it is easier to use and setup.  If you do not have both the Auzilary Incremental Encoder and the Sinusoidal Commutation, then you will need to purchase it for your drive.  Attached is an excerpt from the manual showing what I am talking about.
    I hope this helps,

  • How to control steps of a step motor using labview?

Hi, I'm really beginner on labview and I need to make a VI to control a step motor. For each n steps, a sensor must observe the position of a mechanism and save in a table based on the number of steps taken. I've already have the sensor's driver, but I don't know how to comunicate labview with the step motor.
I've seen some samples here, but they weren't enough. I need to buy some specific hardware? What's the difference between using VISA and Motion NI 77xx? Where I write how much steps I want it moves?

    HI 1M2S,
You have many ways to communicate LabVIEW with a step motor. Are you using a IC step motor driver or a NI module step motor driver?
If you a using an IC step motor driver you can use serial port or DAQ digital output to control the step motor steps.
If you are using a NI step motor module you need use NI Motion functions.

  • How can I control my step motor

I am using a 6006-DB 3-mothor driver and a NEMA step motor model 405-SM, both from AMSI corp. I would like to control my step motor using LabVIEW. We use the LV. 5.1.1 version and we have a PCI-MIO-16E-40 as adquisition card.
The sistem I want to built is to control my step motor and while turning detect the intesity variation on a photodetector which is conected to my adquisition card.
I wonder if somebody has an idea how to do that.
    Thank you in advance
    Daniel Hernandez

Ok I understood, I can use my PCI-MIO-16E card to control my steper motor driver, I will try to do that. But, if I use a DB-25 connector, how can I use my PCI card??
I was thinking to use the parallel port, directly, to conect my steper motor driver.
I attache some VI someone passed me. (It use a Setbit.vi and out port.vi)
