Generating Multiple Modulated Signals

I was a bit surprised I didn't see this on the forums, though I am new to the RF gear.  What I would like to do is generate two modulated signals, such as 802.15, on two different frequencies.  I am already able to create the signals individually using the modulation toolkit.  I am using a PXI-5671 RFSG.  I have found how to generate with interferance two CW tones in the examples, but do not see how to generate the two modulated tones.  I also need to be able to set one of the modulated signals to a lower power than then other.  I am trying to test adjacent channel interferance with modulated signals.  Any thoughts?
Troy

Hi Troy,
There are a few tricks you can play here but
they are completely independent of hardware and more on signal
processing. Basically you need to write both waveforms at the same time
with different frequency offset.
1) Frequency Shift. Assume you
have two completelly independent baseband signals s1[n] and s2[n]. Each
one should be the same lenght (time duration).
One of them will
be transmitted at Fc and the other one at Fc + df. s1[n] remains
unchanged and s2[n] will be shifted by df using the following VI:
The
trick here is to make sure that your sample rate is high enough to
support the shifting, otherwise you will be aliasing. If you create
your waveforms with Modulation Toolkit make sure they have enough
samples per symbol.
Finally you need to sum all signals s[n] = s1[n] + s2[n].
2)
Apply different Powers. Before you add the signals, you only need to
scale the data correctly. To do this, I recommend to normalize both
waveforms. This is s1[n]/max(sqrt(|s1[n]|). Thenscale the smaller power
one. Finally, you will add them together.
Here is a spectrum of the composed signal:
I have attached
an example to do this using 802.15 signals with a few modifications: I
am not normalizing data but applying headroom to each signal and I
hardcoded the number of samples per symbol so the maximum frequency
offset is about 12 MHz. Should be helpful to get started.

Hi there, Currently I only know how to generate a signal using the basic function generator function in LabVIEW, but may I know how to generate a carrier and get a modulating signal using LabVIEW?

  • Need Help on How to Generate Pulse Width Modulation signals

    Hi,
I am New in using NI board and programming using LabView. I have no idea on how to start to generate, use what function in order to create a PWM signals.
    My project needs:
    -PWM signals with 15kHz frequency.
    -Duty cycle varrying from 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%.
-By using the generated PWM signals to control the half-bridge (MOSFETs) of boost converter and buck converter to varying the voltage of 24V battery to feed in my DC motor.
The NI board that I use is (NI - sbRIO-9642).
Can I have a clear view on what to use, how to generate, and by using what functions to generate the PWM signals.
Sorry for the inconvienient, but I really desperate for help in this. Thanks a lot. I am appreaciate it.

    Hi Ronald,
in this thread a very similar question came up. You can use the same approach on your sbRIO.
For the frequency you gave you should use the FPGA present on the sbRIO - as is shown/discussed in that other thread! I also suggest that other thread because of the "deadtime" feature used to prevent shortcut problems when switching your MOSFETS simultanuously...

  • How do I use a counter to measure frequency and multiple analog signals in the same VI?

    I have a PCI-6071E, an SC-2345 with multiple modules, and a PXI-8184 (with a PXI-1002 Chassis).
My goal is to monitor pressures, flows, temperatures, and speed in one VI.
I am using Measurement and Automation Explorer version 3.1.1.3004 to manage my channels.
My speed is a PWM signal which I recently rewired through the counter 0 of my board.
I was hoping to configure this to read frequency directly in measurment
and automation, have this scale the value to RPM, and then feed it
directly in to my labView program.
In labView, it will not except this signal though.
I get error -200300 from the DAQmx Start Task.vi
    Possible reasons(s):
Invalid timing type for this channel.
    Property: SampTimingType
    You Have Requested: Sample Clock
You Can Select: Implicit, On Demand
After doing some research, it seems that the counter wants "Implicit"
selected for the DAQmx Start Task.vi, but then I cannot use my other
channels. Also, counter is included in the "Sample Clock" option
description, so I do not understand why it is not working.
Does anyone know how to work around this problem or a way to configure the counter so that it will work in this way?
All my other channels are Analog.
    Thank you.

I am working on getting just the counter working by using
the program posted previously, and I am running into issues. Periodically I get
    the error:
    Error -200141
occurred at DAQmx Read (Counter DBL 1Chan 1Samp).vi
    Possible reason(s):
    Data was overwritten
before it could be read by the system.
    If Data Transfer
Mechanism is Interrupts, try using DMA. Otherwise, divide the input signal
    before taking the measurement.
It seems to work better if I use cascaded counters, but I need timer 0 for
analog channels when I run this code along with the program for the other
    measurements.
I have tried averaging, and selecting different values for the millisecond
timer, and these did not seem to have an effect.
I tried different DAQms configurations and "Counter DBL 1Samp" seemed
    to work the best.
The program will work for a while and then it will give me the above error
    message.
If I use counter 0 as a cascaded counter input, the program runs fine. If I run
this with other analog channels, it errors out because the analog channels use
    counter 0.
If I use counter 1 as a cascaded counter input, it seems to work better than a
single channel, but it will still error out with the above error.
If I use only counter 1, I get the error above even faster.
    Also, none of the
configurations give measurements outside the While Loop.
The only place I can add a speed dial for the front panel is within the While
    Loop.
Is there someway to get the signal to continuously send out of the while loop?
I thought if I could get the signal out of the while loop, I could condition it
anyway I wanted without the program erroring out.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • How to generate multiple idoc's from single appl document

    All,
Iam looking for a way to generate multiple idoc's from single appl document (sales order). Based on the plant details on line items in the sales order i have to generate multiple idocs, i.e., send one idoc to each plant entered in sales order line items. any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
You can create a Z-program and call Function Module  <b>MASTER_IDOC_DISTRIBUTE</b>.
You can make a call to this FM to send the Idoc as many times as u have plants in your Sales Order.
You can call FM <b>IDOC_OUTPUT_ORDRSP</b> to fill the IDoc structure.
Then u can keep the materials of only that plant for which u want to pass on the information.
    Thanks,

  • Generating an input signal

I have completed the FPGA Module tutorial and I am attempting to generate an input signal, but i really don't understand exactly what is going on in the tutorial.  I have two FPGA I/O nodes in the FPGA VI that are labeled "ADC 0 PORT A_I" and a corresponding one labeled Q as well.  I'm assuming that these generate a sine wave that the tutorial used as the input signal.  I want the input to be a sine wave with noise, and Mauricio suggested using DDS, but I don't know exactly how to add this to the existing FPGA VI that I created in the tutorial.  Can anyone help me out on this one?

I'm a bit confused by your post. The FPGA Module tutorial guides you through the creation of a VI that acquires a signal. The I/O nodes labled "ADC 0 Port A I" and "ADC 0 Port A Q" are the I and Q elements of the acquired and downconverted signal. Just to be able to test this code, the HOST VI also configures one of the Analog Output channles in "Single Tone Mode" and therfore generates a sine through it. However, the FPGA is not doing anything to generate the sine tone, it's the DAC which is configured to generate the sine tone.
The I/O nodes that you need to use to generate signals are the "DAC 0 Data" and "DAC 0 TxEnabled". You will also need to use another clock, the "DAC 0 IQ Clk".You might want to read some documentation on the Analog Output and look at the IQ Output example. You can find the documentation on this post: http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=ifrio&message.id=140

Thanks, Neal. I'll do as you suggest.
Just a little feature enhancement request, as well. It would be nice if the
option existed to break out the webservices for all the session beans in a
ejb rather than creating one all-encompassing interface of all the methods.
I think this would be a useful feature.
    Thanks, again,

For now, in order to make sure your automatic build process, you can use

There is something wrong during generating application.xml for the

After servicegen, if you open generated application.xml, you probablycan
see duplicate entries for one module. Please go ahead delete thoseredundant

  • Pulse width modulated signals

Is it possible to generate a fixed frequency with variable duty cycle signals using counter/timer channels of my DAQ 700?
If yes, is there any example I could download?
If no, I am looking for a DAQ card that can handle
the job, I'd appreciate any recommendation.
Another part of my project is to read in a analog signal while generating this pulse width modulated
signal. So far I am not very lucky with one DAQ,
I am thinking of getting two. Does it sound overkill?
    Please help.
    Thanks

Could you provide a timing diagram for your digital signal?
I am a firm believer that a digital output device such as an NI timer can create any signal, given the proper software or hardware. I once did a high speed, gated, triggered data acquisition with only a single NI timer chip on the AT MIO 16E-1. It required about 75 feet of BNC cable, more PFI wires than you can imagine, four external logic devices (AND and OR, NAND and NOR boxes) all interconnected and basically tangled. I don't think I could repeat that setup without my documentation, but the point is, it worked.
The most important thing from that example is that I used a timing diagram. These are so vital in digital IO and timer applications that its not funny.
    If you can't determine ho
w to do what you need from a timing diagram, just send me a copy, let me know what the basic specs are of the DAQ 700 (how many counters, interconnect capabilities, etc) and I can try to help.
    Good luck.
As far as reading the analog signal at the same time...well, look at my example. I generated the trigger/gate signal with the card, and then read in the analog data (on several channels simultaneously.)

I'm trying to create a Pulse Frequency Modulated Signal ... I have seen the examples showing how to create a frequency modulated sine wave (using the function generator example, I believe) but am not sure where to look next.
    Any suggestions?
For some context, this would be used to simulate the signals similar to those found traveling through/ transmitted through a nervous system.
    Thanks for the help!

    Hello Slow,
You can generate ECG signals using the Biosignal Generator by changing the Signal type in the pull-down menu. Take a look at this description.

  • Creating Help for multiple modules, multiple versions and multiple locales

I need to put together a new help solution for a suite of applications. The problem I have is working out how to manage and publish the content. Would someone be able to offer any advice?
    The software has:
    Multiple modules
    Head office and site versions
    UK and US locales
Multiple software versions to be supported
Previously I used WinHelp, regenerating the project 6 times per software version to provide all possible permutations.
I’d like to create a single hosted help solution with a simple home/landing page that allows users to enter a natural search term – the results provided would be drawn from the database or collection of available help topics and ranked for relevance to application/version/locale etc.
Obviously the right help must be displayed, and I don’t want every topic to be prefixed with: [uk | head office | Module name | v3.5].
I have RH9 (for html and word), but would upgrade if I needed to.
I have looked into using Webhelp, Airhelp and even Wordpress but still haven’t worked out the best way to do this. I understand that this is not a normal posting, but if anyone can point me towards any information that may help me I’d very much appreciate it.

I think build expressions are what I am looking for, but if I need to create a new conditional build tag for every variation (Locale/Installation/Version) it will be become rather unwieldy and since new software versions are released almost quarterly it will soon become challenging to manage.
OK, I am happy you picked up on that point. It will be challenging.
Sorry but your requirement is a complex output so too will be the solution.
Also, can I apply a build tag to an entire topic to include or exclude it from a build for whole topics that are UK or US specific?
Yes. Whole topics or content can be tagged. You can apply a topic tag to exclude it entirely from some categories and you can have content tags so that variants of the topic can be generated so that a topic could be excluded from US but for UK it could then vary according to version, for example.
From an authoring perspective I want to create a single help file, but I can’t have users scrolling through hundreds of possible help permutations to find the one they are looking for. Creating one help file will simplify the hosting of the webhelp too.
You cannot have sub categories so you would create a category for each permutation. I don't think that would amount to hundreds though.
Another approach would be similar tagging but using multiple layouts. With categories, your output would have a folder for each category and when a user selects what they want, the system goes to the chosen folder. If you created multiple layouts, you would have much the same folders but each one would be a standalone help system. It would be for your developers to install the right help for each user. Not as difficult as it might sound. For a start, the versions would be simple to hook up.
A lot of places stop updating help once either a new version is released or goes out of support.
The best advice I can give is cut down the permutations as much as you can.

  • Generate Multiple Invoices in One PDF

    Hi,
I have requirement whereby I need to generate multiple invoices in one PDF file. I am using Oracle BI Publisher with Oracle APEX 4.0.2
If there is only one invoice that needs to be generated in one PDF file then I already have the solution whereby I print the APEX page item session state values on Invoice Header and get the invoice line items from a SQL Query in my RTF template.
However how to the do the same when multiple invoice needs to be generated in one single PDF file ?
    Any pointers will highly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,

    asagarwal wrote:

Once you've got the query returning multiple rows, then just add a repeating group to your report (if an existing report, just select the section of the document that will repeat -> add-ins menu -> insert repeating group...; or right click selection -> BI Publisher -> Create group...), wherein the column values exist. You can even specify a page break at the end.
By the way, this question is probably more suited for the {forum:id=245} forum.

I have a report where I have to generate more than one output files from the same report based on a parameter.
Each output file is for each parameter.
Is this possible in oracle reports, is so how ?

You can better post your question in the reports forum instead of this pl/sql forum.

  • How to create multiple modules in quizzes in single file?

    Hi,
Can someone guide me how to create a multiple module quizzes under one captivate file ( captivate 5.5 ver)
I have a quiz.cptx file with 50 questions from different chapters A,B,C,D,E with 10 questions in each chapter.
    The scenario
Note : min 80% score  per chapter is the passing criteria
    1. Start the quiz after login and password
    2. Start the quiz for chapter A ( 10 questions)
    3. score for chapter A should be displayed
    4. If "cpQuizInfoPointsscored"'s  value < = 40 ; ie 80 % for chapter A
review of the failed questions in the chapter
             OR
retake quiz for that chapter should be triggered,
       else goto chapter B
    5. Start the quiz for chapter B ( 10 questions)
    3. score for chapter B should be displayed
    5. If "cpQuizInfoPointsscored"'s  value < = 40 ; ie 80 % for chapter B
review of the failed questions in the chapter
             OR
retake quiz for that chapter should be triggered,
       else goto chapter C
    6. //rly with other chapters
    7. After passing all chapters the result should be printer based on the scores.
Is there any better ideas to crack the steps 4 - 6, bcz i am not able to reset the value of "cpQuizInfoPointsscored"; which is incremented as each question is completed.

    Welcome to the forum,
Agree totally with Rod, this can be done with advanced actions (have some examples on my blog), but it is a lot of work. And the Quizzing system variables such as cpQuizINfoPointsscored are all read only, no way to change them by advanced actions at all.
If you want to transfer variable values from one file to another, like from the different quiz files to a main file (to take decisions over there about possible branchings), you should have a look at Michael Lund's Save & Load Data widget:
