"Get Info" and change permissions

Since I installed Leopard – when I create a file in PhotoShop and save it. When I go to reopen it – it will not let me. I have to go to “Get Info” and change permissions to “read and write” to everybody each time. I also have to from time to time have to go to “Get Info” in application and change permissions to get them to boot. Is there a fix?

Where are you saving these files? When you open an Info Window to the file you just created in Photoshop, what names are listed? The top entry should be your username with Read&Write privs. The middle entry should be either staff, (unknown) or your username with Read Only privs. The last entry should be everyone with Read Only privs.
Also, save a file to your Desktop (name it foo) and see if the problem still happens. If it does, launch Terminal and type:
ls -lde ~/Desktop
ls -le ~/Deskop/foo
paste the spew from that into a reply and we'll try to see whats going on.

Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):

Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.

I can no longer change my song names like i used to. i use to be able to right click and go to "get info" and then change the song name, artist and album, now i can't is there any other way to change the songs name and info

When I get songs and put them on my itunes accout on my computer I used to be able to rename them right clicking, going to "get info" and then renaming everything I wanted like song name, album and artwork. I also use to be able to click on the song then click and hold on it and be able to rename it. But all the songs I have gotten after the last update have not been able to be renamed in any of the old ways I use to be able to. Is there any other way to rename songs because I know I can't undo updates and that seems to be whats causing it.

You are describing an iTunes problem, not an iPod touch problem. Try posing in the iTunes forum.

Wrong Art Work shows in iTunes but is correct in both "Get Info" and Internet Explorer

I am using Window 7 ultimate; itunes 11.0.2.25. I put album art on a song (right click, get info, artwork, delete anything there, add my artwork). Now shows correct in "get info" (and also shows correct in Windows Explorer) ... but doesn't show correct in iTunes. I have deleted and retried multiple times ... works for some song but does not work for MANY songs. Suggestions? Since it also shows correct in Windows Explorer not even sure how to change it manually outside of iTunes .. it still show an OLD album cover (not even sure where it get is)

I believe the album was only load for one of the tracks. This can happen if the album art was NOT from the Apple Store. Go into iTunes on your Mac and select the album in question. Click on each track and confirm art on the lower left hand corner. If it's blank, ctrl-click on the artwork to copy and paste it into the lower left hand corner. You can also select all tracks and paste the artwork into the lower left hand corner.
Let us know if this works.

I'd think you have a Keychain problem (Keychain storing passwords and the likes).
When you are being asked, are you offered the checkbox, "Remember this password in my Keychain"? If so, check and see if it stops asking.

I have an IMac. I put a folder on the desk top and now want to delete it. The folder seems to be locked. I went to get info and tried to unlock it but still can't delete it. The folder has nothing in it. Any help would be great. Thanks

I can restore the artwork (and make my apple tv see the movie exists as well) by going into the movie library and clicking on each movie by hand, slecting get info, and then selecting enter. Now doing this 10 times in 20 days was fun and all BUT I would really like to automate the process so everytime itunes screws it up I can fix it easier.

Try assigning Queen as the Album Artist on the compilations in iTunes on your computer.

How do I get albums out of "compilations'? On one of my machined I can go to individual songs, "get info" and uncheck "part of a compilation", but that does not work on my office machine. I would also like to be able to do this in a group for an album,

I don't know how so much of my music got lost by being labled "compilations"? I would like to go back and catagorize it as it should be but the screens are gray and will not let me alter them as to the catagory I wish them to be in (or even the genere they are already labled? On my home machine I can (by individual song) "get info and uncheck "part of a compilation" and when this is finished the album goes to the genere as it is listed? Frustrating bit of hous keeping. The Get Info. fields show up gray if the files is locked and iTunes knows it can't edit the file. Make sure the files are not marked as read only and, if necessary grant both your account and system full access to all files and subfolders of your media folder.
You can set Part of a Compilation for multiple tracks from the Options tab of Get Info.

When I download a movie from iTunes the cover art disappears. I try get info and add the art, it doesn't show up. So it's just gray. It opens and plays fine. Apple can't figure it out. It's an nas drive. When I use a firewire drive I get the art

When I download movies from iTunes to my NAS drive, I don't get the cover art. It shows up while its downloading, but when it's finish it disappears. If it has an iTunes extra the cover art is there. I tried get info and add the cover art, it never shows. Regardless of how I add it. Funny thing is, if I download the same movie to my external firewire drive, no problem its there. I've called Apple with no success. I've even tried copying the movie with the art from the firewire drive to replace the file on then NAS drive I still loose the movie cover art. I also tried several times to re download it, no luck. Any ideas? I'm out of ideas.

Do you have any videos/movies in the video app?
In iTunes if you right click on the video and select Get Info and go to the Option tap what Media Type is shown?

Hi, I'm not really very good with computers and am having the same problems when trying to install the Ikea 3D kitchen planner, please could you take me through the steps?
1. Download (save) the disk image file 2020PluginInstaller.dmg
I double click on the link which says "Install 3D Planner"

A file downloads to my download folder called 2020PluginInstaller_IKEA.dmg
2. Mount the disk image (open/run the downloaded file) if not mounted automatically
I double click on the downloaded file
3. Find the 2020PluginInstaller window (might be behind the window on top)
A small window opens up with a lego brick called 2020PluginInstaller_IKEA.dmg and a folder called Internet plug ins. I highlight the lego brick and do File, Get info and unlock it
4. Drag the lego piece to the folder (if you do not have admin privileges you will be prompted to authenticate)
I do this and put in a password to authenticate
5. Restart the browser (it is not enough to close the browser window, you need to restart the browser
application)
I've tried restarting Safari, I've tried re-starting the computer
6. Access the same link and you will now see the Start button and be able to start planning your room!"
When I go back to the IKEA kitchen planner I don't see a start button, I just see the exact same screen as before prompting me to install the 3D planner

Managed to solve this myself. Just went to properties > hidden.

Trying to sync audiobooks, that are listed in music by hitting "get info" and trying under options to pick audiobooks. The dropdown menu only shows books, and they will not sync to my IPad

No longer and it's Really frustrating. It will let me drag it there but it

it has everyrhing to do with tags.
The artwork is stoed in the Artwork tag field.
Since WAV files do not have tags, there is no where to store the tags.
If you use iTunes to get artwork for WAV files, it puts themn into the AlbumArt folder adn links it to the correct files via the iTunes library.itl file.
All other formats (MP3, AAC, AIFF, Apple Lossless) have na artwork tag to store the artwork in the media file itself.

Not to WAV files. You must have imported them as a different format.
