Getting an USB USBTMC device into MAX when it doesnt detect it?

I am trying to control an Agilent 33220A Function Generator over a USB connection.
I am running LabVIEW 7.1, NI-VISA 3.1, and Max 3.1.1.
Windows drivers for the generator are installed, and working. The generator shows up as a "USB Test and Measurement Device". I can connect to it with Agilent’s Waveform Editor.
The problem I am having is the device does not show up in Measurement & Automation Explorer.
I tried using ‘VISA Driver Development Wizard’ to create an inf file, and MAX was then able to detect the generator. However this caused it to be in USB RAW mode. None of the GPIB style commands are working this way.
The generator is USBTMC compliant. How can I get MAX to detect it correctly? As near as I can tell Agilent’s installer wrote all the settings directly into the registry, there is no inf file.
Thanks,
Richard

That’s basically the problem. The generator is currently not associated with NI-VISA. I can get it associated by generating an .inf file with NI’s VISA Driver Development Wizard. But then, when it shows up in MAX it’s a USB Raw Resource. Device ID: USB0::0x0957::0x0407::MY44000798::RAW.
I cannot communicate with it in RAW mode. I need it to show up with an ::INSTR extension.
All the threads I have read indicate that the VISA Driver Development Wizard should only be used for non-USBTMC complaint devices. USBTMC complaint devices are supposed to just show up automatically. Plug-and-Pray isn’t working.
I need to get Agilents USB driver associated with NI-VISA. Not bypass it by creating a raw mode driver. Is there any way to do this?
Thanks,
Richard

  • Unable to combine two distinct USB Audio devices into one Aggregate Device

I'm trying to use Audio MIDI Setup to combing two separate USB audio speaker systems into "one" so that iTunes will play through both simultaneously.
I can create the "Aggregate Device" and add the two USB devices but I can't get the two checkboxes to remain selected after I "Apply" changes when setting them up in "stereo". If I set them to Multichannel quadraphonic then I can select both devices but only one of them will play sound...I assume because iTunes doesn't output in Quadraphonic.
I've searched these forums and the Interwebs and hear of people having success (and difficulties). Difficulties mostly because of the misunderstanding of what a "device" is. These are both EXTERNAL USB devices. One is SoundSticks and the other is a USB audio converter that passes analog into an amp.
Why is this so difficult? Oh, I know...because  wants to sell you $80 Airport Express to stream music wirelessly to devices that are literally ON THE SAME DESK!
Anyone have success (or confirm more failures) with what should be a trivial exercise...

The idea with the Aggregate Device is to allow several audio devices to behave as though they are one multi-port device with discrete one to one I/O mapping. It is not intended for one stereo source to feed more than 2 channels of output.
    However...
Set up your aggregate devices as 4 audio outputs, install Jack (http://jackaudio.org/) and use that as a virtual router with qjackctl.

  • How do I get sound from external device into my iMac?

Hi there, I am trying to get sound from a Pioneer DJ mixer which has standard RCA outputs into my my new 21" iMac. Typically in the past I would get a converter from RCA to 1/4" stereo jack and plug into microphone input, how simple. Now Apple has changed the set up and have no idea as to how to get sound in. The headphone jack in the back of the iMac will only take sound in from earbud microphone, other than that it will only be for sound output. Any help would greatly appreciated.

do i need to transfer the midi region to the audio region to hear the play back.
If you need audio monitoring of your device the "Software monitoring" in the Logic Preferences must be enabled. You can switch on the Audio Track monitoring button (labeled as "I" at the bottom of the channel strip).
ive tried recording the keyboard audio thru and audio track it works just cant quantize it like u said and i think ive already tried it before but ill give it a go again
This is wrong conception. To be able to quantize or do any processing like that, you need to record your performance using a midi track in Logic.
    1. I hope you have created some Multi or Standard Instrument so you can edit (quantize) the midi region etc. When you decide that your midi work is O.K you can record it as audio using the Audio Track you are talking about.
    2. The other way (new one) is to use the "External" plugin inserted on a Software Instrument.
This way combines midi and audio i.e you record/draw the midi on the Software Instrument track and is outgoing from the Software Instrument channel strip. In this method you must use "Real Time" bounce cause you use external midi device.
    3. If decide to use the second method you can bounce the audio but you also can record the audio on an Audio Track if route the Software Instrument to a Bus and assign the Audio Track "Input" to record from that Bus.

  • IPad 2 gets error 1611 after going into recovery when updating to iOS 5

Last week I got a new iPad 2. Everytime I try to update my iPad 2 to 5.0.1, iTunes switches to restoring my iPad at a certain moment. This goes on for quite a while, until it stops and gives me an error 1611. After this my iPad stays unrecoverable in recovery mode, because it keeps giving a 1611 error. In the end I resorted to using Tiny Umbrella to get my iPad out of recovery mode again.
While I can live with using 4.3.5, it is fairly annoying I can't use the most recent iOS version. DOes anybody have a solution for me?
I already checked for iTunes updates, cleared apple out fo the hosts file, shut off my AV and I am using the original cable. Also I am using 64 bits iTunes on Windows 7.

    Look at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4097
Also, make sure you have a good USB connection - plug directly into your computer.
Once when I had a restore problem, I downloaded iTunes again & reinstalled.

  • How to get a usb 3.0 into comaptible mode ?

I have a Kingston Data Traveler ultimate 3.0 G3 the computer does not recognize it I checked my computer it is fine I checked the usb and it compatible with windows 8 please help me to put it in compatible mode with windows 8

Please follow this step from King stone
    http://www.kingston.com/us/support/technical/products?model=DT100G3
There are several possible reasons why your DataTraveler is not being detected in Windows.
    1. The DataTraveler could be conflicting with a pre-assigned drive letter. To resolve, do the following (Do not do this for a "Privacy" drive that assigns two drive letters):
        1. Insert the DataTraveler and right-click on My Computer located on your desktop or under the Start button on the Task bar.
        2. Select “Manage.”
    3. Select “Disk Management” on the left window pane.
        4. Locate the DataTraveler on the right window pane.
        5. Right-click on the drive and select “Change Drive Letter and Paths.”
    6. Click Change and select a new drive letter from the drop-down box. Then click OK.
    2. The DataTraveler may be conflicting with pre-installed software. Disable all applications running in the background prior to installation of the Data Traveler.
    3. If you have never used the USB ports, make sure they are working and enabled via the BIOS. Refer to your system’s manual for instructions on how to access the BIOS. The USB ports should also be enabled in Device Manager. To access Device Manger, right
click My Computer and select “Properties.” On the System Properties dialog box, click on the Hardware tab and then on the Device Manager button. Locate the Kingston Data Traveler, usually under “Hard disk controllers” or listed as “Other.” Right-click on the
device and select the “enable” option.
    4. Make sure you have the latest Windows Service Pack. Windows Service Packs contain fixes and updated drivers for USB devices. To find out if you have a Service Pack installed, Right-click My Computer and select “Properties”. On the General tab under “System”
you will find the Windows version and Service Pack information listed. If no Service Pack is listed, you can download it from the Microsoft Website.
    5. If you have a desktop computer, make sure the DataTraveler is inserted directly into one of the main USB ports on the back of the PC. Front ports, keyboard ports or USB Hubs may not supply sufficient power for the High Speed DataTraveler to function properly.
    6. If the DataTraveler shows up in Disk Manager but not My Computer (Computer in Windows Vista and 7) or Explorer and you have TweakUI installed, it may modify the registry to make drives hidden. To resolve, go to “TweakUI Properties” and configure it to
    display drives.
    7. If you received a (Code 10) error and have more than one USB device inserted, remove the devices and insert the Kingston DataTraveler by itself. This error may be an indication that your particular system cannot support more than one USB device at a time.
    8. Make sure you have the latest BIOS and/or firmware installed on the computer. The BIOS/Firmware can be downloaded from the computer manufacturer’s Website.
I would suggest you contact manufactured if all that possibility TS already done and issue still persist
Contact Toshiba for possibility update and Kingstone regarding device TS and information regarding compatibility

  • Neo-FSR BIOS Hang Results from plugging a Sasem OnAir USB-2 Device into USB Port 3

Very surprising.  I've seen this behavior on two distinct Neo-FSRs with 3 distinct BIOSes (v1.2, v1.3, v1.4b4).  Unplugging the Sasem box returned my 2nd Neo-FSR to prompt BIOS POST behavior.
    Anybody seen this?
Please refer to my earlier thread for the details.  I just thought this specific issue deserved a thread of it's own...

According to Windows Compatibility Center that device is not compatible with Win8.1/Win8

I've already tried putting it into Disk Mode but nothing happens. Tried restarting computer and a new USB cord but still not working!
    PLEASE HELP!

Already tried another USB port, still nothing.
I don't have another PC to check, I only have one which is the one not working with my iPod.
It appears under my Computer, just not under iTunes. Plus, the iPod classic troubleshooting assistant doesn't work because I can't restore since it can't come up onto my iTunes! Even my iPod says "Use iTunes to Restore" once in a while, but I plug it in & I'm not able to restore it since it won't come up under iTunes.

  • HT1476 when i plug my phone into the usb port with the apple charger that came with my phone i get an error msg say charging not supported by this device.   But when i use a gigaware (radioshack brand) usb charger, no error msg.  Why?

when i plug my phone into the usb port with the apple charger that came with my phone i get an error msg say charging not supported by this device.   But when i use a gigaware (radioshack brand) usb charger, no error msg.  Why?

    - Try restoring the iPod, first from backup and then try to factory settings/new iPod to rule out a software problem.
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and broken or cracked plastic.
    - Could you have damaged something when you took the iPod apart and replaced the Home button?

    Hello, joegoducks.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your device is not recognized by iTunes, I would recommend the steps in the article below.  Start with the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

Is the iPod Touch specifically stated as being compatible?  Have you tried to perfrom a hard reset of the iPod with it still connected?  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Is there a device that I can plug into my iPad to get a USB port?

Is there a device that I can plug into my iPad to get a USB port?

Not really, no. The Camera Connection Kit has a USB port for the purpose of importing photos from USB flash drives, and some developers have written apps that can use that port for other purposes, but it doesn't give you a general-purpose USB port as would be present on a standard computer.
What is it you wish to connect to your iPad?
    Regards.

  • USBTMC device does not show up in MAX.

I have a USB device that will not show up in MAX.  When I plug the device into the computer, it is recognized as a USBTMC device and Windows chooses NiUsbTmc.sys as the driver.  I believe it also uses niusbtmc.inf and niusbtmc.pnf.  After going through the process and rebooting, the device shows up in the Windows device manager as a USB Test & Measurement device.  When I open MAX, the device does not show up in the device tree, nor can I seem to find a way to communicate with it.  So I uninstalled the device, removed the files above to a temp directory, rebooted, and then created a new inf file using the VISA driver wizard.  After going through that whole process, rebooting and then plugging the device back into the computer, I directed Windows to use the new inf file.  The device now shows up in the Windows device manger as a NI-VISA device and the driver is NiViUsbK.sys.  I open MAX back up and the device is nowhere to be found.  I tried using the VISA Interactive control to find the device, but no luck.  What step or steps am I missing?

Just plugging the instrument in should have made the device appear as USBTMC in MAX and using the driver wizard is not correct. I don't understand why it didn't show up in MAX with either method though. I've only a small amount of experience with USBTMC but have used the wizard a lot for internally developed USB instruments and they have always appeared in MAX. What version of VISA are you using? The latest version is 4.1 that can be downloaded from http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/websearch/B1A7837FFFD2826E8625729100689D3C?opendocument&node=13207....
