Getting IStorageFile from a desktop application
I would like to use Windows.Media.Transcoding.MediaTranscoder from a desktop
application. I have most of the pieces in place, but I am stumped by how to handle the files.
In particular, I can convert the files that exist in one of the KnownFolders directories just fine, but I don't know how to get an IStorageFile to an arbitrary file location. Most of the online discussion on this topic revolves around the fact that
Windows Store apps are not permitted to touch arbitrary files. However since this is a desktop application that restriction shouldn't apply.
Does anyone know how to get an IStorageFile for an arbitrary file location for a desktop app?
You're trying to use a sandboxed set of types (for WinRT apps) in a general desktop app. If this is the only problem you run into then count your stars lucky. Personally I would look around for a desktop-specific solution rather than trying to use something
that seems more inherently for WinRT apps.
Nevertheless take a look at
StorageFolder.GetFolderFromPathAsync which returns back a StorageFolder that itself exposes the files within the folder as IStorageFile objects. I've never used this set of types so I cannot confirm whether they'll work for arbitrary paths or only paths
that are deemed "safe" by the system.

Error Installing Adobe Air from Story Desktop Application Installer
This is truly driving me nuts already.
Every time I try to install the Desktop Application from the Story website, it says I must install Adobe Air. So I click Install, it shows the progress bar to 100%, then errors out with a window. The window header reads "Adobe AIR Installer" and the main section of the window reads "Couldn't write the application to the hard disk. Please verify the hard disk is available and try again." - There is a Retry and Cancel. Retry does it all again with same results.
No, I had no previous versions of Adobe Air. So I tried installing AIR direct from the Adobe website, and it installs fine. So I go back to the Story webpage and try installing the Desktop Application again and the exact same set of events as described above happens. I uninstalled the AIR install, tried again, same result.
I had Production Premium CS3 previously, and installed Production Premium CS5 UPGRADE. All the programs in the suite work like a charm!
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit with 208 Gig free on my C drive, as well as over 500 gig free spread out over two other drives. 8 Gig memory, and two Nvidia Qadro FX 3500 video cards (If that matters at all). Full admin rights to the PC, not limited in any way.
A quick Google search shows plenty of other people having the same problem, just no known fixes I've found!

HP 1300 wont print from Remote Desktop applications
I have an HP 1300n attached via USB to a windows 7 computer. I log onto a clien'ts windows 2003 server using remote desktop application. I have installed the driver to HP 1300 PCL 5 on the remote server and of course it's installed on the windows 7 machine. I can see the HP via port TSXxx on the remote server but when printing, nothing happens. The document is sent to the "printer" but doesnt print in my office. I've tried many solutions and nothing so far works. I have 3 other windows 7 computers and 3 others HP 1300 and all are experiencing the same thing.

Getting problem during deploying desktop application with JNLP File.

I am developing one standalone (desktop) application in swing. I want to make one jnlp file that would be install on my computer as a client(suppose). When i am doing jav web start enabled after that making application descriptor. But when i am running a web browser where i have stored my html file. but it is giving me an error that codebase or something like this. Please tell me is there any other way to do this task. Please help me to do this. Is NetBeans ide is best way to do this. please help me.

In case it does not, I provide a tool called JaNeLA that will provide a lot more specific error message(s) than 'something like this'.
Really, I cannot see you getting better help than on some of your other recent threads, with vague, unspecific error messages, and without putting the JNLP file and other relevant information. -

Do you want to create Jquery Mobile application UI within your desktop application??
Yes means, follow the below steps,
Go to Shared Components-> Under the User Interface section-> Select User Interface Attribute.
Under the User Interface section-> Click on Add User Interface button to create Jquery mobile UI.
Then You have to create a navigation bar to switch over from desktop to Jquery mobile UI.
You can refer sample application which is using both Desktop and Jquery mobile UI.

Getting photos from iphoto into applications
I tried the suggestions TD gave me for importing photos to applications. The best one seems to be File--Open--then selecting the photos section under media. It works as advertised in photoshop elements 6 until I click on the photo I want. When I click on a photo, all of the photos disappear. (?) However, when I do the same thing in, say, Safari, it works perfectly. Is it possible that a setting is wrong in PHE? Any ideas why the photos would disappear?

1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard. -
I just got an HP Stream 8 tablet with Windows on it. I have a Mac desktop running 10.6.8. I set up Home Sharing by making sure both had the same version of iTunes and I authorized the new tablet (desktop already was). (I haven't exceeded the number of authorized computers.) I would like to take some of the playlists I have on my desktop Mac and copy them into iTunes on the tablet. I hooked up the tablet to my desktop with a USB cable but wasn't able to get it to copy. I do not have WIFI....is there a way to do this by just having the tablet hooked up via the USB cable? If so, can someone please talk me through the steps necessary to do that? Thanks!

I cannot get files from my desktop to my external hard drive
Does anyone have any information on why my external hard drive would not be allowing me to move files from my computer to my external hard drive? I have a Seagate Free Agent external hard drive. It has 1TB of space that is no where near being used. It will show up on the desktop when I plug it in, but i cannot move anything to it. Also, I have a few movies on the external hard drive that I cannot view for some reason. Does anyone have any input on why that could be? It gives me the pop up window that says "a required codec isn't available." Any onformation will be very helpful. Thank you in advance for your help.

More information would help. How is the external connected? Does the external appear on your Desktop? Has the external been formatted for a Mac? What method do you use to transfer files? When you try to move a file to the external, what does happen? -
Can't Open "Lightroom 5" from CC Desktop Application
The CC Desktop shows my "Lightroom 5" application with check mark as "Up to date". However, it does not have link to open the application form there...is it common? or something needs to be set?
As I roll over on Photoshop or Bridge, the cursor pointer turns to 'Hand' and on clicking it opens the application. That does not happen with "Lightroom 5"!What - exactly - does the message say?

How to get MSI from BB desktop OS 10 (BlackBerryDesktopSoftware_1.2.0.52_B59.exe)
I have d/l the .exe but Winzip wont extract it. I've tried uni-extract and was able to get a bunch of numbered files extracted but no MSI. Cant seem to find a link anywhere. For some reason I cannot get the .exe to deploy properly with SCCM. Why is this so difficult Any help would be appreciated!

Adobe supports Macs for 99% of their applications. I'm not sure where you found that information.
Photoshop isn't an inexpensive application so you may look in to buying the less expensive version of Photoshop Elements. -
