Getting jdeveloper to work on osx

it is actually quite funny, that you can download ( from inside jdeveloper) a menu update for "jdeveloper 9.0.5.1" for osx, but oracle don't do "jdeveloper 9.0.5.1" for osx.
so here is the info to get 9.0.5.1 worknig on osx.
I thought i would post this here just incase anyone wants the info.
(that is 9051,the latest release)
start by downloading the "pre-view version of jdeveloper 9.0.3 osx", install it.
this will give an installed product
you should see a "coffe cup" icon called jdeveloper.
"control-click" the icon, a menu will pull down.
select :show package contents.
navigate
contents/resources/jdev/jdev/bin
save the file called "jdev.common"
navigate back to
contents/resources/jdev/
download "jdev9051.zip" , windows /linux etc
unzip
move the complete unstuffed folder jdev
to
contents/resources/jdev/
so that it over writes the old nested jdev folder.
now navigate back to
contents/resources/jdev/jdev/bin
and put the old
"jdev.common" back
close all open folders.
now when you click on the "jdeveloper "coffe cup, you have a brand new 9.0.5.1 jdeveloper running on osx
whooooooo it works.
( perhaps oracle can fix the "jdev.common" file they broke on the update, so i dont have to screw about for 3 hours next time, finding out why it won't launch. or maybe they can put in 5 minutes extra work to pack up an osx version.

  • Can't get OS9 to work within OSX Tiger

Has anyone had success using OS9 within the newest Tiger? I have a favorite app that requires OS9 to work and the instructions in my Mac are vague about how to install the old operating system to have it work within OSX.
I recently did a complete wipe of my hard drive and installed the latest Tiger OS. I created two partitions for the hard drive. I used the single disc OS9 install CD (the one that came with my Powerbook a few years ago) and successfully went through the install process using the second partition, the one that OSX is not on. The OS9 system folder does appear in the partition list of items.
When I click on the app I want to use, the OS9 window pops up and says "Classic starting up using 'system folder' on 'untitled 2' (that's the partition name. The problem is that OS9 never completes starting up and I'm not able to use my app. I've waited ten+ minutes and OS still hasn't completed starting up.
    Can anyone help?
    John

    John, try this:
    1) Go to System Preferences -> Classic -> Start/Stop tab. Make sure the OS 9 System Folder is the one you want. (Hover the pointer over the selected one to see its location. Make sure it is the one on the 'untitled 2' partition, for example.)
    2) Leave the pref open -- you will need it again shortly.
    3) Open Disk Utilty. From its "File" menu select "Fix OS 9 permissions." This will repair OS X permissions on the OS 9 install you selected above. You can now quit Disk Utility.
    4) Back in Classic preferences, select the "Advanced" tab. Click the "Rebuild Desktop" button. Select the volume from step 1 & Click "Rebuild." (This step is just for good measure & not strictly necessary.)
    5) In the top section labeled "Startup and other options" make sure "Turn off extensions" is selected, then click the "Start Classic" button next to it. (This is the most important step.)
If Classic now starts up with no problems, what you have is an old fashioned extension conflict. If so, stop Classic & switch to "Open Extension Manager" in the "Startup and other options" section, restart Classic & select one of the top two sets in Extensions Manager, next to the "Selected Set:" text. (These are the standard 'All' & 'Base' sets.)
If Classic now finishes starting up, you will have to do the old process of elimination routine to find the conflicting extension(s).
BTW, to boot into OS 9 from the partition, you must have an OS 9 boot driver on the drive (not volume) you boot from. You can make sure that is there with Disk Utility. Select the drive (not the volume) & click the blue "Info" button. Look for the line in the info window that pops up that says "Mac OS 9 Drivers Installed :" -- you want it to say "yes."

  • Having trouble getting WebDAV to work on OSX Server 10.6.3

Guys I hope you can help here.
I've got an OSX 10.6.3 server behind a BT Business Broadband Hub router. I am trying to set up WebDAV on the file shares so that they can be accessed remotely. I have set it up according to various notes I've read but I can't get it to connect remotely. Can you help please?
    This is what I've done:
    On the SERVER:
Enabled Web service in Server Preferences but not started it
In Server Admin I've gone to the Web screen then Sites. I've created a new Site called Remote and WebDAV enabled it. I've created a new Realm called WebDAV and set it so that a couple of the users have read/write via WebDAV rights. I've set the Realm to point to one of the file shares. I've set security initially to not run via SSL and set authentication to basic, just at this stage for testing (I'll lock it down later).
    On the ROUTER:
Set (and paid for) a static IP public facing
Created a port forward called WebDAV pointing to the internal IP address of the server, port 80
Enabled firewalling to allow all outbound but block all inbound save for http, https and all specifically port forwarded traffic
    On the EXTERNAL DEVICE
Tried to Connect to Server pointing to each of the following:
    http://static_public_ip/remote
    http://static_public_ip:80/remote
    http://static_public_ip/webdav
    http://static_public_ip:80/webdav
    http://static_public_ip/path_to_share_set_in_realm
    http://static_public_ip:80/path_to_share_set_in_realm
Nothing will connect to the server - just keeps saying server not available or not responding or similar.
    What am I missing here?
Really hope someone can help, I spent hours on this yesterday!
    Many thanks in advance guys

When I try and click on the play button in chrome a yellow alert bar opens up at the top of the screen telling me to install quicktime player. I have installed both quicktime X and quicktime 7 with no results. I am able to download the generated midi files on a PC, transfer them to this mac, and play them with quicktime 7 but I can't seem to get anything to play while I am in the web application itself. Let me know if you need any more information.

The files you refer to are really MIDI files. As discussed over the weekend, "real" MIDI files do not appear to be supported by the browser QT plug-in software or QT X player app any longer. Therefore, the files do not play in a browser which accesses a web page programmed/defaulted to call the QT browser plug-in for playback. On the other hand, MIDI playback is still supported by the QT 7 player app if installed on your system. Thus, MIDI files downloaded to your local hard drive can be played locally on your system. In fact, if you try to play the MIDI file using QT X and QT 7 is available, then the QT X player should automatically ask you if you want the file to be played by the QT 7 player.
The same also currently holds true for WMA Pro encoded MIDI files as far as browser playback is concerned. However, WMA Pro encoded MIDI content can be played using either the QT X or QT 7 player apps, but only if one of the Flip4Mac codec packages is installed on your system AND only if you change the ".mid" file extension to ".wma" so that the player can associate the file container with the correct playback codec component.

    Hi,
Is there an iPhone involved ?
If not, what happens  if you remove the Apple ID on the iPad and then set it in Airplane Mode (allow a couple of minutes at this point) followed by re-adding the Apple ID ?
What, if any error messages are appearing on the Mac when you try to launch the App or Login to the iMessages server ?
Is the Apple ID linked to an iCloud account ?
In Messages 7 (Mountain Lion) this did not seem to be important but it seems it is in Mavericks/Messages 8

My apologies. Your post jogged my little grey cells to the point that I did a few experiments. In essence, you are right. My plug-ins do not work with 8-bit greyscale images. I like to deliberately shoot B&W and have a Wratten #12 minus-blue filter on the lens--as I used to do with film cameras.
The raw files ( Fujifilm's .RAF) were converted in Adobe CR by checking off "Convert to Grayscale" under the fourth tab. In the future, I will do the B&W conversion in Photoshop with either Nik or Topaz plug-ins.
    Thanks for your input!

  • Getting SSH to work on Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6.x)

Im a recent mac indoctrinite (love my Windows 7 and linux but this is best of both worlds) and wanted to share with you guys the way to get ssh "listening" on your Snow Leopard System (as it seems there are some Mac Zealot crack babies out there that cant write simple clear cut directions)..
    Hope this helps someone
    1. Open Terminal
    2. vi /etc/sshd_config (use whatever editor makes you happy. vi is fastest)
    3. I have the following uncommented on my machine:
Port 2233 # (means ssh will listen on port 2233 instead of 22 default)
    AddressFamily any
    ListenAddress 0.0.0.0
(feel free to adjust as needed)
    4. Also make sure the following are UNCOMMENTED:
PermitRootLogin yes #(only if not in production though)
    RSAAuthentication yes
    PubkeyAuthentication yes
    AuthorizedKeysFile .ssh/authorized_keys
    PasswordAuthentication yes
    X11Forwarding yes
    5. Now vi /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ssh.plist (or use whatever editor you like)
    6. Change <key>Disabled</key> to Enabled
    7. Change <string> (under Label) to local.sshd
    8. Go down to the line that says SockServiceName .. now the next like (that says string) change to "ssh-batman" (or whatever you want that is unique.. i like batman)
    9. Ok save and exit file..
    10. Now vi /etc/services and add the following lines to the bottom:
    ssh-batman 2233/udp # batmans SSH listening port
    ssh-batman 2233/tcp # batmans SSH listening port
    11. Save and exit file.
    12. Finally start and stop the launchDaemons service which controls connections to SSHD (this is the mac osx equiv to inetd/xinetd in linux land)
launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ssh.plist (ignore any errors)
    launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ssh.plist
    13. Now if you type "netstat -na | grep LIST" you should see something like the following:
    tcp4 0 0 *.2233 . LISTEN
    tcp6 0 0 *.2233 . LISTEN
VOILA!! Magnifique no?? now if you use:
    ssh -p 2233 127.0.0.1
SSH WORKS AS IT SHOULD AND THE WORLD IS GOLD AND GOOD!
    Cheers everyone.. hope this helps!

When i looked at your steps, it seems that the manual process I put together seems to activate it (as it seems its checked).
Those steps are more or less accurate if you wanted to run sshd on a non-standard port.
This is what im talking about thou.. Instead of being able to find people like you who are clear and to the point, i find a bunch of J** offs who couldnt write out what should have been a simple process and I had to struggle..
For some time now the internet has ceased to be a source of valid information. It is there, but you have to be able to sort through the more common misinformation. Someone puts up a blog post in 2006 and it causes no end of frustration when people can't get it to work today. For example, step #6 above is not quite accurate. To set or unset the disabled flag, use the '-w" parameter on launchctl instead.
I definately hope this post circulates. Snow Leopard is a KILLER operating system even for experienced sys admins. I think we will see a lot of Windows - SL migrations in the next year here.
I'm glad you like it. There are an awful lot of people who are switching to the Mac and don't seem too happy about it. It is good to be one of those who can embrace the change

  • Help ! Getting a G4 AGP to work with OSX

I have inherited a G4 AGP (400) which I want to setup as a network server. The HDD had been blanked so I needed to reinstall OS. I could not get OSX (10.4) to load, so loaded the barely remembered 9.22.
I then tried to run the firmware upgrade - not successfully. I have rebooted, zapped the pram, reset-nvram, reset-all (in macboot) all without success. I have checked the ram (and removed dodgy ram), battery seems fine
I have cloned (using super duper) the osx drive from my ibook and swapped that as the HDD and that will not load.
How do I overcome a firmware upgrade in os9.22 which will not run ?
How do I create a bootable OSX drive to put in the G4.
I have an original (retail) DVD for 10.4, software restore disks for a G3 imac (9.21), a variety of external drives and both super duper and data backup - so should have all the hard and software to get this powermac working - but I am stumped.
Any experts out there who can help ?

My reply is concerning the Tiger install. I don't feel that a clone of 10.4 off of an ibook is going to run reliably on a G4. Each machine has different drivers they use. Some, here, say they have done things like this with success, but many others, here, don't recommend it. A fresh install of Tiger would be way better. When you tried installing the retail disk, what happened please? Of course, even if it installed it may not run well, or at all, without a firmware update. I was able to run Jaguar without an update, but had some issues. I don't think Tiger will do well at all.
Are you able to go to "About This Mac", in Tiger, listed under the blue Apple; when screen comes up, click the "More Info" button and check the Boot ROM version (firmware)? Mine is 4.2.8f1 ; correct for my Gigabit Ethernet model to run OSX. Here is the list of firmware updates. Could yours already have been updated? Maybe the clone is why Tiger doesn't work well?
    Cheers!

I'm not familiar with Virgin media, so you might contact their tech support to find out why you are having a problem sending mail but none receiving mail. I assume your mail account has always been POP3 and not IMAP. Typically, the outgoing mail servers are not the same for the different types of account service.

    Try these in order:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • S-Video adapter and analog TV works with OSX 10.5 but not Boot Camp 2.1(XP)

I bought a mini-DVI to S-video or composite adapter to use with an older analog TV. Works great with OSX 10.5 no problems. However, I currently have Windows XP running with Boot Camp 2.1 and it wont work with the TV. If I ever get an image it's three black and white fuzzy and distorted iterations of the monitor.
Since it works with OSX but not with XP i'm thinking its some sort of boot camp issue and not a problem with the hardware or adapter. Therefore, it should be solvable, right? Does anybody know how to fix this? Will upgrading to snow leopard and boot camp 3.1 solve it?

Perform a custom install from the Mac OS X 10.5 disks and install only that component if possible; if not, use Pacifist to install it. In either case, rerun the combo updater for your Mac OS X version afterwards.

  • I need help with ISIGHT!  I can't get it to work with MSN!

    HI,
My issue is this... I have AIM/AOL and I am able to see myself on webcam.. however noone else can unless they HAVE a webcam... My first question is- "DO you have to have a WEBCAM on both ends for both people to see you?" Does the person I am chatting with HAVE to have a webcam to see me? If so WHY? They should atleast be able to see ME if I want them to... Also if they are using windows for PC platform... can they use a pc webcam and still connect with me through my isight although I am on a mac?
My second major ISSUE is.. WHY is the isight only compatible with AOL/AIM? I was told when I bought this it would be compatible with MSN Messenger for windows AND the MAC version... I have both and the isight does not show up on it... CAN ISIGHT be connected to msn messenger for MAC??? PLEASE help me!
I called APPLE tech support and they couldn't even help me! They told me to call Microsoft! Anyhow- one guy did say he was able to get his ISIGHT working with the MSN messenger for MAC platform.. do you have ANY idea how to do that?? The thing is ALL my freinds are on PC's and have MSN messenger..
ALSO- someone on mac rumors told me to look for a guy names RALPH! Said you know A LOT about mac and pc compatibility! PLEASE HELP
Bottom line - I want to use isight with msn so my msn pc friends can share webcam... I also have virtual pc software... is it easier to just get a pc webcam and do it through there? ( i tried that and it didn't work either) i need major TECH SUPPORT!
    THANK YOU

Microsoft's Messenger for Mac (MSN) does not support webcams at all.
I have found the best alternative to MSN to be aMSN with macam for the webcam driver (it is a cheap usb webcam). Both are free open source projects. I guess if you use an iSight you will not need macam.
aMSN can be found here: http://amsn.sourceforge.net/
macam can be found here: http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/
The speed is substantially faster and it is far more stable than Mercury in my experience.
The only difficulty is the camera is often shown as being "in use by another application". To counter this I start macam, then plug in the camera (or unplug and plug back in). Then I start aMSN.
