Getting ora-00990 while giving Grant create directory privilege
Hi,
I need to create a directory (ext_dir_src) in the user 'new_user'.So i have given,
create or replace directory ext_dir_src as '/mark_data/erp/src;
but i was getting an error as:
ORA-01031 insufficient privileges
so i logged in as 'SYSTEM' user and given:
grant create directory to new_user;
but i am getting the following error:
ORA-00990 missing or invalid privileges
Can this privilege be given to 'new_user' from SYSTEM user?
Or my Grant command is wrong?
It would appear that the operating system "oracle" doe not have appropriate privileges on the directory.
It is oracle:dba that must own '/mark_data' not Mark.

Problem with APEX 4.0 - "ORA-20001: Error with: GRANT CREATE CLUSTER "
I have a workspace which I've succesfully created with schema A.
However when i try to assign an additional schema to it, schema B, I get the following error message :-
"ORA-20001: Error with: GRANT CREATE CLUSTER TO "BI_SOURCES" ORA-01031: insufficient privileges"
i've tried granting "create cluster with admin option' to users A,B,anonymous AND APEX_040000. FLOWS_030000 already has these privileges.
Anybody any ideas ?

Getting ORA-32700 while creating database
I am getting following error when creating the database :
ORA-32700 error occurred in DIAG Group Service
The error description is as follows :
Cause: An unexpected error occurred while performing a DIAG Group Service operation.
Action: Verify that the DIAG process is still active. Also, check the Oracle DIAG trace files for errors.
The setup is as follows :
Database : Oracle 9i Rel 2.
OS : IBM AIX 4.3.3
We are trying to create the database from sqlplus/dbca. It seems that in the database creation process it is throwing the error while it is trying to create the control files.
listener.ora :
LSNR_TSEDMDB2 =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = prcsmbk1)(PORT = 1522))
TNSNAMES.ORA
LISTENER_TSEDMDB2 =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = prcsmbk1)(PORT = 1522))
We have IBM HACMP Cluster setup on 3 machines. This machine (prcsmbk1) on which I am getting the error while creating the database is part of that HACMP cluster. While installing the Oracle database software also it gave me a list of the 3 machines which are in HACMP cluster. We are not planning to setup RAC, but still it seems like while creating the database control files Oracle is trying to perform some group service operation.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Thanks a lot for all your responses. We found the issue. The issue was that when we installed 9i we selected Enterprise option which installed RAC also. And after that when we were trying to create database Oracle was thinking that we are trying to create database in RAC env. and most likely it was trying to create/sync the control files on all the machines in the cluster.
The sequence of events were as below :
1. We have 8i installed on this machine
2. We installed 9i (9.2.0.1.0) using the same ORACLE_BASE but different ORACLE_HOME. We didn't select "Custom Install". We selected "Enterprise install" option
3. We installed new installer (2.2.0.18.0 ) and then 9i patch (9.2.0.4.0)
4. While creating the database (manually & through DBCA) we were getting ORA-32700
5. We tried to uninstall (using OUI 2.2.0.18.0) 9i (including the patch) completely but it never succeeded. We noticed that when we started uninstall it did show progress for about 20 minutes and after that it didn't show any progress. It was not taking any CPU cycles and It was not writing to the log file either. Basically we were never able to cleanly uninstall 9i. We tried almost 2 to 3 times.
6. Then we installed 9i using a new ORACLE_BASE and this time we selected "Custom Install" and we did not install RAC. This is successful
7. Then we installed new installer (2.2.0.18.0 ) and we tried to install the 9i patch (9.2.0.4.0) using this new installer but it never succeeded. Then we tried to install the 9i patch (9.2.0.4.0) using the old installer version (2.2.0.11.0) and it was also successful.
8. Then we tried to create database using DBCA and it was successful and then we dropped the database which was created using DBCA and then we created it manually through SQLPLUS and this was fine too.
So basically what we learned from this exercise is that if we are installing 9i on a machine which is part of a cluster and if we don't plan to setup RAC then we shouldn't install RAC and we should do a custom install. I wish there was a option in create database stmt to tell Oracle that though we are creating database on a machine which is part of a cluster environment but we don't intend to setup RAC.
And other thing which is still a mystery is that why does the uninstall never completes successfully. One question on this : We were using the installer version 2.2.0.18.0 to uninstall the 9i software. Do we need to use the older version (2.2.0.11.0) of the OUI? -
I have a Laptop with Windows 7 64 Home premium, I have tried a few times to install Quicktime 7 on my laptop. But keeps stopping with an error saying "An error occured while attemping to create the directory: C:\windows\Installer\{F5266D28-E0B2-4130-BFC5-EE1-55AD514DC}
Windows is fully up todate, I have no virus or anything harmful on my computer. After clicking retry the error keeps popping up. I then click on cancel and delete the downloaded quicktime installer. I shut down my computer and try again. Same error with not luck. Any help?Just in case, let's check for disk/file damage.
The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -

Thanks,

nullHi Ravi,
Thank you for your kind support
That issue has been solved. Problem was with the event queue and only for that particular job i mentioned in the first post (I was able to create other jobs with different Events using the same queue) . After recreating the event queue i am able to create the same job. I got the same error when I tired to drop the queue, and then I dropped the queue table itself. Do you have any idea about what might had caused the issue?
Thanks

How to grant create table privilege for a user on a specific table
Hi:
I created a user, for a test scenario. I granted this user create any table, and I made the default tablespace as example.
When I connect as the user and try to create a table, I get this:
SQL> create table T1 (NAME varchar2 (500), AGE number(2));
create table T1 (NAME varchar2 (500), AGE number(2))
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01950: no privileges on tablespace 'EXAMPLE'
How can I grant the necessary privilege to have user create/delete tables on tablespace example?
Thanks.
DAcreate user ADAM identified by radge default tablespace EXAMPLE
quota 10M on EXAMPLE;
for example 10Mbytes given to Example tablespace.... or you can write:
.....quota unlimited on EXAMPLE
and
grant connect to ADAM
grant create table to ADAM .....
or
grant connect , resource to ADAM .... although grant resource is not recommended...
....and something else....
you should define temporary tablespace in create user command... otherwise the system would be used...
Greetings...

An error occured while trying to create directory C:\Program Files\Common Files
iTunes and Quicktime kept giving errors when trying to update so I tried to uninstall and re-install but I get the same error and now don't have iTunes. I get multiple errors for c:\program files\common files\apple\apple application support\webkit.resources\ru.lproj and c:\program files\common files\apple\mobile device support\com.apple.windowsmail.client.resources\pt.lproj\localizable.strings. Verify that you have access to that directory.I have tried clearing cache, cookies, etc. Also tried to remove those files but I get another error. I have full administration rights and turned off all security. Any ideas???

That's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive. There's XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP

Getting dump Uncaught_Exception while giving filter values
Hi Friends,
We have recently upgraded the system from BW 3.5 to BI 7.0, and SP17 we have applied.
Now the problem is we are not able give the filter values
while executing queries. It's giving the dump UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION.
Error analysis:
An exception occurred which is explained in detail below.
The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_RS_PROGRAM_ERROR', was not caught
and therefore caused a runtime error.
The reason for the exception is:
Error in BW: Error creating tmp table
How to correct the error:
If the error occures in a non-modified SAP program, you may be able to
find an interim solution in an SAP Note.
If you have access to SAP Notes, carry out a search with the following
keywords:
"UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION" "CX_RS_PROGRAM_ERROR"
"CL_RSBOLAP_BICS_SERVICES======CP" or "CL_RSBOLAP_BICS_SERVICES======CM003"
"HANDLE_UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION"
Awaiting for your suggestions.
Regards
UdayaHello everybody,
we fixed our problem.
It was a customizing issue.

Getting ORA-01031 when attempting to Create Database
I am attempting to issue a CREATE DATABASE statement via JDBC but I am getting a "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges" error. I am logged in as an administrator and I have no trouble creating tables. I am also receiving the same error when attempting this from SQLPlus. I'm stumped.
Thanks,
PinoPino,
I haven't verified this, but only the SYS user can create a DATABASE in Oracle, and you also need to use a special login (when going via SQL*Plus) which JDBC cannot handle. Hence your failures both via JDBC and SQL*Plus.
By the way, if you are new to Oracle, but have experience in another database, then the Oracle idea of a DATABASE is probably different than what you're used to. That's probably why you're stumped. If you haven't already done so, I suggest reading the Oracle Database Concepts volume of the Oracle documentation, which is available from:
http://tahiti.oracle.com
Good Luck,
Avi.
