Getting server IP in a Safari extension

I've searched for a solution in javascript but has concluded that it's impossible to ask for a server IP in the browser script. Is it possible to somehow ask Safari?
I've looked in the documentation but haven't found any solution, here:
http://developer.apple.com/library/safari/#documentation/UserExperience/Referenc e/SafariExtensionsReference/_index.html
A reflection on the documentation is that it's seriously lacking.
Another thing I've been wondering is what is executed first in this seemingly event-driven Safari extensions.
Thank you in advance for any help I can get.

Every time I try and install an extension for Safari I get the error message "Safari can’t install this extension, An error occurred while installing the extension “Pin It Button”." I have all the latest updates, working on OS X Yosemite v 10.10.2 / Safari v 8.0.3. Any suggestions?

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

Why do I constantly get the msg...Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding?  I just upgraded to the IOS 8.2.  Nothing else seems to be affected.

    Try some basic troubleshooting:
    (A) Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Try reset all settings

  • I'm getting annoying pop-ups on Safari; MacKeeper, Free Cam Secrets, Chrome User Survey.

I've followed (I believe correctly) the directions in The Safe Mac to check the launch files and it always says nothing is found. I've also checked Safari's Extensions. The only thing I've done recently is install Photoshop Elements 10. Other than that, nothing's changed. I don't know what more to do and I've got a tremendous headache! Please help. (If I've not posted correctly here, I apologize; this is my first time doing this.) BTW, I'm running Windows 7 through Parallels but that hasn't presented any problem. The pop-ups started in just the last few days.

The router has been hacked to direct DNS queries to a malicious server.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions to reset it to the default state. Usually that involves inserting the end of a straightened paper clip or a similar tool into a pinhole somewhere in the back of the device, and pressing a switch inside for about 15 seconds. The pinhole may be marked "RESET."
Repeat the initial setup process. Make sure the router does not allow remote setup from the Internet (WAN port), if it has that feature—most do. The DNS servers should be set automatically by your ISP.
If you have a wireless network, it must be secured with WPA 2 encryption. The passwords for the network and the router must each be a string of at least 10 random upper- and lower-case letters and digits, and they should be different. Any password that you can remember is weak.
You are wasting your time deleting files on the computer. Those files are not related to the problem in any way.

  • How to install Safari Extensions

Hello, I began using Safari on Windows 8 from yesterday.
When I tried to install Safari Extensions, I alwas get this message: This developer’s server appears to be busy. Please try again later.
What is the reason and how can I install extensions?

Addition, when I use " secutiry find-generic-password -ga Safari" on Terminal, it will show then Installed Extension same as Extension.plist on MAC 10.9, but I don't know how to add my extension to this.

  • My Safari Extensions preference page is blank. How do I resolve it? (Safari 5.1.2 on Lion 10.7.2)

I found my extensions window blank back when I used Snow Leopard. I thought Lion and new updates will eventually solve it. But it is still there. I tried everything I can. I tried downloading Safari 5.1.2 and reinstalling it. It didn't work. Then I uninstaled safari using CleanMyMac and then tried installing it from scratch. It didn't work. When I googled I found that deleting some plist file resolves the problem on some older version of Safari. But I cannot locate that plist file on Lion. How can I get back my extensions preference page?

    Delete the following items:
    /Library/Application Support/SIMBL
    /Library/LaunchAgents/net.culater.SIMBL.Agent.plist
    /Library/ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax
Log out and log back in.
Make sure you never reinstall SIMBL, as it’s one of the worst articles of crapware on the Mac platform. It’s likely to come bundled with some other modfication that depends on it. If you want trouble-free computing, avoid software that makes miraculous changes to other software, especially built-in applications. The only real exception to that rule is Safari extensions, which are mostly safe, and are easy to get rid of when they don’t work. SIMBL and its dependents are not Safari extensions.

  • Error while trying to install safari extensions on Macbook Pro Retina

    Dear All,
Yesterday I had to re-install Mountain Lion OS on MacBook Pro Retina. Everything went smoothly however after the installation process and updating sytem to the newest possible version, I am not able to install any Safari extensions. I was trying to find any information in the internet about this but so far I am unsuccessful in solving this issue. I am currently running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and Safari 6.0.1. I would be grateful for any help.

    Back up all data now.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Be sure to select the whole line by triple-clicking anywhere in it. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar. A text window opens.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • I keep getting an error message re: System Extensions

Almost every time that I run Software Update or when Norton runs its automatically scheduled scan, I keep getting an error message saying, "System extension cannot be used. The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/IomegaSAM.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update." I've also been having problems with Safari, in that when I've had a browser window open for a while and use it to go to different websites, etc., after I've gone to 2 or 3 websites it will then act like it's "stuck" and it won't do anything else until I close the window, quit out of Safari, and start it up again. Then it will be fine and work for a while, until it does the same thing...again.
Are these items somehow related, and how do I fix this?

  • I can't download from the Safari Extensions gallery

    Hi,
*I can't see any download/install buttons in the Apple Safari Extensions page.* I just uninstalled ALL my extensions trying to troubleshoot this and now I can't get them back.
I know there are at least two other issues like this but they're both unanswered and I honestly can't follow how some people claim to have been able to fix it.
Please help! I won't have any choice but to switch to Chrome if I don't get this fixed.
    Thanks,
    Carlos

    Hi,
Open a Fiinder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Now open the Library folder then the Safari folder then the Extensions folder.
If any of the extensions you have installed are in that folder, move them to the Desktop.
Quit Safari (Command + Q) then relaunch Safari and try the gallery.
If that didn't help, go back to the Extension folder and move the Extensions.plist file to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safaari, try agian.

  • How to get rid of Stand in Safari?

Since I have installed Mountain Lion, with Safari 6, I get error messages all linked to Stand. It doesn't prevent Safari from functionning.
I have tried getting rid of Stand in Safari.
I have erased the bundle in the SIMBL folder.
I have erased the folder within the Safari folder, in the library.
I have erased preferences, such as jp.hetima.SafariStand.plist
Nothing related to Hetima (which does Stand) appears to be left on my computer. Did I forget something?
I have log out and even rebooted my computer, before starting Safari again.
Stand keeps jumping back in the menu of Safari.

    Uninstall SIMBL as follows.
Select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar, then enter the following text in the box that opens:
    /Library
A folder will open. From that folder, delete the items listed below (some may be absent.) You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
    Application Support/SIMBL
    InputManagers/SIMBL.bundle
    LaunchAgents/net.culater.SIMBL.Agent.plist
    ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax
Log out and log back in.
Make sure you never reinstall SIMBL. It’s likely to come bundled with another third-party system modfication that depends on it. If you want trouble-free computing, avoid software that makes miraculous changes to other software, especially built-in applications. The only real exception to that rule is Safari extensions, which are mostly safe, and are easy to get rid of when they don’t work. SIMBL and its dependents are not Safari extensions.
