Ghosted "Include Linked Files" box when saving artwork?
Why will Illustrator CS5 not allow me to check the "Include Linked Files" box when saving my artwork as AI or EPS?
When you placed the files into you AI file did you use the Place command from the File menu and have the Link box checked or did you use copy/paste? If you used the latter then the files are embedded. The Include Linked Files will also embed the files and make them non-linked. I don't know if that is what you are after. This is real non-intuitive.

Indesign CS4 "forgets" file name when saving as Postcript file.
Like the title says Indesign CS4 "forgets" file name when saving as Postcript file.
Example:
I open up indesign CS4 and open up a file called "test5". Then I go to the print menu and save it as a postscript file. Once the save as dialog box comes up it wont say "test5" but it uses whatever file name I used last time I created a PDF.
I want indesign to recognize that when I create a postscript file that I want it to be named the same way as my file that is open at that moment. Changing the file name every time is not bad when they are called "test5" etc but here at this company we use super long file names and it's a pain to change it every time.
Funny thing: Some machines here do it the way in the example but other machines will do it the correct way by using the same name in the save as box.
Any suggestions on how to fix this? If something is not clear just ask!How about this - it's a workaround, I can't change ID or your system.
I'm big on EXACT filenames also, case and space sensative. Do a "Save As" before printing - the file name should be correct and highlighted, ctrl+c copy, escape/cancel the Save As. Paste in the filename during the Save as Postscript File. -
How do you turn off the "Update Template Files" dialog when saving a template in Dreamweaver?
As the title states I'd like to not have to see the "Update Template Files" dialog when saving a template. I'm not sure what its purpose is other than to annoy as it does not seem to do anything -- selecting update, don't update, any combination of files and or hitting escape appears not to make any difference wrt wheter it updates the pages or not (it does every time).
Any help will be appreciated. The "more like this" window gave me the answers. No current ability to turn off. I've submitted a request to add this feature.

Does the Pages update include linking text boxes?
Does the Pages update include linking text boxes? This was a great feature in the previous iWork: Pages version.
Tamoshanter wrote:
I agree. The latest version of Pages is marketed as a huge leap forward, and indeed it probably is...
How so? It has a new coat of paint, Apple sells it as "New" and everyone thinks it is an "improvement"?
How on earth can you not notice or ignore what is so obviously wrong with it?

Changing file type when saving doesn't work
How can I fix the problem where, if I change file type when saving, eg from tiff to jpg, the 'jpg' suffix is not appended in the save window? It remains as tiff. This has only started happening recently.
I have a G5 iSight running OSX 10.4.11 with all the latest upgrades. The problem is about a week old.
Yesterday I did a clean install of everything (not because of this problem) which I'm sure would have cleared the problem. But I was playing around with importing all my old PS and InDesign settings via copying the old preference files (and others), and the tiff/jpeg problem has reappeared. Seems to me like one of the files I copied, contains the problem. I suspect the only way out of this is to reload PS. But I was hoping it might be as simple as deleting a certain preference file. -
TOC in PDF does not include Link OBJR tags when exported from InDesign
I'm using InDesign CS6 to export a book file to a tagged PDF. When I run the accessibility checker in Acrobat 9, I get errors about items not being contained in the Structure tree. These missing items are links for the TOC and the Index page numbers. When I look at the tags, the Link OBJR tag is missing for these elements. I can't possibly manually add them all in. Other links e.g. cross-references, hyperlinks, automatically include these Link OBJR tags when exported. Why does the TOC and Index not do so?
I've asked this question in the InDesign Forum and no one seems to know. If I don't put these tags in, what does that mean for accessibility of the document?
Thanks for your helpGlad you found something that worked. For the future ... I found that if you create the PDF from BOOK and following these steps you can get the hyperlinks to automatically tag. This will work if you are getting editable hyperlink boxes for the TOC -- I find that it is creating these (although I could swear it didn't earlier). Anyway:
1. Select all chapters in the book and create PDF with hyperlinks and bookmarks. Save as TEST.PDF
2. Open the PDF and in the Pages Panel extract the page or pages containing the the TOC from the PDF. Save this as TOCtest.pdf
3. Delete the Tags from the TOCtest.pdf file -- in the Tags Panel, select the Root tag, right click and select delete
4. Select Add Tags to Document to this same file.
5. Examine the tags to see if all the OBJLINKs are tagged. Repeat steps 3 and 4 again (sometimes it doesn't autotag correctly the first time). You may have to manually correct some of the structure -- headings and/or artifacts on these pages.
6. Save again.
7. Go back to the main document TEST.PDF -- delete the TOC page or pages from that document (assuming you didn't when you extracted.)
8. On the pages panel, Insert from file and choose TOCtest.pdf -- insert before the first page.
9. This will bring in the newly tagged TOC and it's tags HOWEVER the tags will be out of order in the tags panel. They will be at the bottom and you will need to find them and MOVE them where they should be.
Still more effort than you should have to but it worked for me.
Not sure how to record a bug with Adobe, but my testing in CS5 shows that this is NOT a new problem. CS5.5 did the same thing for me. -

An issue whereby Photoshop .PSD files disappear when saved to a network file share
It has been reported and reproduced by Support, an issue whereby Photoshop .PSD files disappear when they’re saved to a network file share.
Upon initial investigations Support have observed the following behaviour when saving a Photoshop file.
The document is initially saved as a new file on the file share.
The original .PSD file is deleted on the file share.
The newly created file is renamed to the same name as the original file.
An issue often arises when steps 1 and 2 complete however step 3 fails. When a file is reported by users as having disappeared, the new file created in step 1 can be renamed from .00_ to the original *.PSD file name on the server as the *.00_ files are normally hidden by the desktop operating system. This allows people to see and open the file from both PC’s and MAC’s using AFP and SMB protocols.
A related issue often reported by users is that they receive an error message “Could not save as” when trying to save a .PSD file. Troubleshooting the issue confirms that the user is able to save the file if they perform a “Save As” operation in Photoshop.
From the reported problems and observations there is clearly an issue with how Photoshop performs a file save operation further exacerbated by the fact the process doesn’t fail safely.Sounds like you're hitting one of the known MacOS filesystem bugs - worst when working with SMB volumes.
Apple knows about this, and we are pursuing workarounds to the OS bugs.
Yeah, if you value your files, don't save directly to servers, especially on MacOS. -
Files corrupt when saved as Jpeg.
Recently I have been creating invitations in illustrator but when I save them as a JPEG file it says file corrupted when I try to upload them for printing. How can I fix this without creating an entirely new invitation?
Why are you saving as jpeg for print out of Illustrator? Work in CMYK and save as pdf.
Working in CMYK means that, provided your monitor is calibrated correctly, what you see is what you get.
You may be in for an unpleasant surprise if you work in those nice, bright RGB colours and they come out all dull and muddy when printed.
Pdf means that vector art remains as vector art. It is bad Latin to pixellate things when you don’t need to. -
Saving attachments on Snow leopard mail loses file extension when saving over an existing document
Saving attachments on Snow leopard mail loses the file extension when clicking on an existing file to copy the name. Is there something I can switch on in the preferences to fix this?
I work for a publishing company where our clients send their copy to us in Word documents. We might have several versions sent to us before the final version comes in.
It is instances like this where we want to overwrite a document on the server with the most up-to-date version (which is usually named differently to the original file). We really don't want to clutter the folder with lots of different revisions. The quick way to do this is to click on the document we are replacing (this copies the document name). Previous versions of OSX Mail used to keep the file extension but Snow Leopard seems to remove it.
It's annoying as there is no particular logic to this. We just have to manually type ".doc" at the end of the document.
Incidentally, this happens with any attachment file type. -
Can I include the FILE NAME when printing from Bridge?
I'm a commercial photographer. I shoot with my camera tethered to a Mac laptop to view images immediately as I shoot. I use Bridge to view these images.
As I shoot, we save the file by product name, and then print proofs immediately. I need to include the File Name on these prints. Is
there a way for me to do this directly from Bridge? If not, can you think of a way using Photoshop? Or anything else? Lightroom?Guessing you are using Bridge CS4 you could use the Adobe Output module for
this. It is reachable through a seperate workspace in the top menu right
side or the left side top menu the icon most right.
You can create different lay outs as a PDF with this but for you it should
be one per page and select the filename (with or without extension). Just
explore the posibilities. For CS4 you could use the updated Output Module.
If on CS3 you could use the contact sheet script for Photoshop that in
Bridge can be reached by the menu Tools / Photoshop / contactsheet. This
contactsheet script is also usable for CS4, it is on the Goodies install
disk for PSCS4

How can I disable "download error" dialog box when saving a complete web page?
Sometimes, when I try to save a web page as type: "Web Page, complete", firefox displays download error dialog box stating a file "could not be saved, because the source file could not be read."
I don't have a problem with firefox couldn't save that file, but I have a problem with firefox displaying that dialog box, because I have to click OK everytime.
Is there a way to disable that annoying dialog box?I modified the host file mainly to block ads. But that's not the problem. It's OK for me for firefox to not saving some parts of a page (ads usually within a frame). It's my intention to NOT saving those files. I just want to save the main content of a webpage.
But I'm having a problem with firefox displaying the dialog boxes. -
InDesign CS2 file crashing when saving or using save as
(This is on a Windows XP system)
I have a file that ran fine until the last few pages were edited. The file is a mock-up and has very few links and only 3 different fonts. The file opens fine and I can edit everything, and print. The actual program and document seem to work fine. However, when I attempt to save changes or export it crashes In Design and I get the "reference memory cannot be read" message (50%) of the time. Other times no error message is reported. Sometimes the changes have actually been saved and other times they are not. With the "save as function" I get a 50/50 return on a new file. I have tried re-naming the file, opening the file on another computer and the same thing happens. My other ID files are fine. Everything works fine until I try to save the document.
I've tried the fixes for my system like removing unnecessary fonts. I relinked all my links, changed my display resolution to "fast" to no avail. It truly seems to be an issue with the file not the program. Is there any wisdom on this issue? Ideas for how I might salvage or repair a damaged file so it can be saved?
HELP!Since this is isolated to a single file, try exporting it to Interchange Format (.inx), then open and save the resulting file as a new InDesign file.
Since the problem occurs during export, that may not be possible. Another option to try would be to copy all elements, page by page, and "paste in place" into a new document the same size. If you used layers, be sure to enable "paste remembers layers" in the layers panel menu.
This kind of problem is often indicative of an underlying font issue. You said there are only three fonts, and you should verify that in Type > Find Font... Try replacing, at least temporarily the fonts in use with something else that you know to be reliable from other documents. You might want to do this before the other steps.

How do i change the webpage file format when saving a webpage?
whenever i try to save a webpage it automatically does so using a chrome html format. windows does not recognize this format. how do i change it? thanks
I'm not sure what you mean by a "chrome html format."
I save pages all the time with Firefox 3.6.16 (and now 3.6.17) and have no problems.
When you select Save Page As, it opens a dialog window so that you can indicate where the page is to be saved.
In the Save as Type dropdown list are format options - "Web page, Complete", "Web Page, HTML only", and "text files"
If you select Web Page, Complete, Firefox saves the HTML file and creates a folder where it stores all the other files associated with the page. If you then open the HTML file, it should display properly in Firefox (or any other browser).,
If you select Web Page, HTML only, Firefox saves only the HTML file, no other files are saved.
If you select text files, Firefox saves only the text, it does not save any of the HTML. Basically, you get what you can see on the page without any of the formatting.
I've never seen an option, in Firefox 3, to save a file as a "chrome html format."
I've only see what I described above.
One other thing, I suggest you upgrade to Firefox 3.6.17. At 3.6.10 you are quite a way back and have missed some security updates.
I don't think you can use the update link under the Help menu, you may have to go to the Firefox site and download it manually. It would not hurt to look for some instructions as to how to go from 3.6.10 to 3.6.17.

Photoshop Elements 8-Change of file format when saving deletes filename
I have been using Photoshop Elements 8 since last May and have always been irritated that when I add text to a photo it always defaults to PSD format for saving. I have gone to the preference options to see if I can set jpg as the default and it does not offer that option. This means that every time I save after adding text I have to manually select jpg to get the format to change.
Although this has been a pain, I have done it thousands of times as I have edited photos.
My problem is that suddenly from one day to the next when I change from PSD option to jpg the filename disappears and I have to go back and manually type in the whole filename. The only changes to my computer settings that I can think of that might have affected this is that Microsoft Updates had 2 updates. First was Definition for Windows Defender-KB915597 and the other was Unpdate for Windows 7 for x64 based systems-KB97690.
I saw a similar problem posted by sandwitch2 on Feb. 13th about PSE6. 99jon suggested the change to permissions of adding "everyone". I tried this and it did not correct the problem.
Any other suggestions are welcome.
I have found Adobe's insistance on saving as PSD irritating to say the least in the past. The inability to change this in preferences has made me very unhappy, but the quality of their product has outweighed the hoops they make me jump through until this. Their search feature in support is pretty much worthless. It either brings up nothing if you keyword is to limiting or brings up 200 responses if it if too broad.
I have been a user of Photoshop Elements for over 6 years updating as new editions have come out. I am to the point that if I can't get this current problem fixed I am uninstalling Elements 8 and going to another software. Adobe's proprietary requirements and poor support page are just too much of a pain to deal with.I was told that if I save in PSD if I send the photos to share with others only those with Photoshop Elements can open the files. That is why I try to use jpg. Is that true?
Thanks for all the help from both of you,
Bettye
