Ghosting, Interlacing, Flicking or whatever you want to call it in Encore 2.0....frustrating

At our TV Facility we have three Avid Adrenalines connected to a Unity system. We produced a variety of projects at different lengths for various clients.
Two of the Avid workstations have Encore 2.0 and one has Encore 1.5. Once we finish a project we export a QT Ref and import into Encore 1.5 and transcodes it beautifully...no flicker or ghosting in the motion portion of the video. If we imported the SAME QT ref file into Encore 2.0...flicker, ghosting, and all sorts of interlacing problems.
What we can't understand is why this is occuring in 2.0 and not 1.5. I see in the forum is that a number of folks have been having the same problem with 2.0. And there hasn't been a good answer...except to re-render in another format. Are there any answers to how to overcome this without increasing our render time transcoding the file into two of three formats just to get it to a compliant MPEG-2 file?
Our current work around is to degrade our compability by 2/3's by using Encore 1.5 on one workstation.
There has to be a simple answer to this 2.0 issue. Any ideas?

Encore is probably going from 720x486 to 720x480 by cropping three lines each at the top and the bottom of the frame. This is a very bad idea because it effectively reverses the field dominance of the video (the odd lines become the even lines, and vice versa). The correct method is to always crop by an even number of lines, such as two at the top and four at the bottom.
I had a similar problem in the past with 720x486 footage and Premiere Pro's MPEG-2 export, but it has since been fixed. I think it was fixed in the upgrade from 1.5 to 2.0. Odd that they fixed it in Premiere and broke it in Encore at the same time.
A workaround would be to set the transcode settings manually rather than using Encore's "Automatic" setting. In your manual setting, set the field order opposite the field order of the 720x486 Quicktime movie. For instance, if your Quicktime is lower field first, set the transcode setting to upper field first to correct for the cropping problem. This would eliminate the need to do the video mixdown. You would need to set your bitrate manually though, as you lose the benefit of Encore calculating the correct bitrate for you.

    In Firefox 3.6 and later on Windows you can hide the "Menu Bar" via "View > Toolbars" or via the right-click context menu on a toolbar.
    Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
    Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the "Menu Bar" or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide (click on an entry to toggle the state).

  • IOS8 downgrade caused Siri to now keep asking "just to confirm, you want to call" on every call request.  Anyone else having this annoying issue?

    Ever since I made the mistake of moving to iOS 8 on my iPhone 5s, whenever I use Siri to place a phone call, I get "Just to confirm, you want to call <enter name>?"  It's driving me crazy!  I've resorted to disabling Siri and just using the native Voice Control, which works flawlessly for making phone calls, but not so well for other functions.  I tried wiping my phone and restoring from a backup, but no luck with that.  Apple doesn't seem to want to help since it's not a widely reported issue.  I've also noticed that incoming calls don't connect on my car's bluetooth, when that was never a problem.  Also, outgoing calls no longer make any sounds.  i never know if the call dropped, the phone bricked, or the call was answered unless the other person says something.  If only I could go back to iOS 7!!!

    I, too, had been suffering through Siri's relentless need to confirm calls that recently she (heh!) just called.
    Applecare support told me to backup and restore from that backup.  I balked at the need to spend so much time reloading my music and docs, and also asked what good would it do to replace the phone's data with a copy of what was there after the problems began.
    "Good question." was the reply.  No answer, though.
    I told her I had to go, hung up, turned Siri off and back on, and the problem disappeared.  It's been nearly 72 hours and all's well.
    Of course, YMMV, but it's painless and worth a shot.
    I hope it works for you, too.  And I hope Apple will better train their advisors to give more informed advice.
    Regards,
    Maurice

  • You wanted it called WHAT?  (change sys id)

    Just when you think that your hard work and endless nights have paid off, you find out that you still can't win.
    When I built this Portal I accepted the J2E default name.  I thought no big deal, they did not confirm the name last time in EP6SP2 and I was able to go into SAPUM.PROPERTIES and changed it, no big thing.
    WRONG!
    Another sleepiness night, and now I ask the question:
    Is it possible to change the sysid (system name) in an EP6SP9 SR1 set up?  I have found the files that are centered around starting the system but, if I change the name there the J2EE, messaging service or both will not restart.  I know that this can be done in the prior version so, please don't tell me thing I know.
    To make matters worse the temp license ran out at midnight this morning.
    Can someone out there help me out?
    Points, anyone, points?

    I do not understand is how not taken into account this circumstance because, often we encounter the problem that some email accounts expire or disappear and... if so, what do we do? Buy new books we already have?
    I hope someone can answer quickly because if we use this program to read the books we buy, we are entitled to demand a solution to this problem of authorization...

    Sir,
    You have been making a complete fool of yourself. By starting a personal vendetta against me, you have completely missed me and have affected the members of the forums and the other moderators.
    I logged on today to find out that you have been busy making a nuisance of yourself, and there was nothing left for me to do.
    If you continue in this childish game, we will have no choice but you contact your manager at the FDA where you work and tell them what you are up to.
    I would prefer that you crawled back under the rock you came from and this ended right here, but if you want to continue, we can take this out to the real world.

    Hi,
    Well I'm another person who can't help but comment. Though I did refrain from doing so last night when this all began. BTW, I am not a moderator!
    Firstly, I read your initial reaction to Richard's reply to your post, and I honestly can't see where your problem lies! Many, many members have been greeted with the same "Car" post and many other members have used similar comments as a playful "Dig" (me among them) to coax more information from members.
    Most (if not all) members realise that it is not malicious and take it in the spirit in which it is given, in fact I don't think I've seen another reaction like yours! To use an expression my daughter uses - Chill!
    If you'd read the stickies at the top of the forum then you wouldn't have made your first post, as it added no useful information (it lacked any detail) to the thread starter's question, it was in fact pointless! It was also not clear whether you posted to give information or receive it!
    BTW, you are not the only person around here who is either disabled or who has served their country in a war zone! I've drawn my own conclusions as to why you imparted the information as to your disabilty, and the fact you were a Gulf war veteran, but I consider myself too polite to comment further! Sorry mate, but I've been there, seen it, done it! (as have others here)!
    However, I don't feel the necessity (nor have I in the past) to give any details on this forum!
    As for the following, I'm a little lost for words. For one thing, we are not all from the U.S or didn't you notice!

    I think I will treat this with the contempt it deseves!

    I'm assuming that the posts that you made here were indeed "Federal Traffic" and carried out in your capacity as a worker for the "Federal" government. You were specifically instructed to post here? At least this is what you seem to be suggesting!
    If not, then you seem to be backing your childish antics on this forum with a threat of intervention by the Federal Government (I could be wrong but that sounds like it may be illegal too) - Three words "Cloud Cuckoo Land"!
    Kellyray: It seems to me that your time and efforts would be better served if you directed them toward other, more important injustices. I would hope that you would reconsider this "Vendetta" against this forum.
    It would seem to me, that you would selfishly deny the help given to many (thankful, and the vast majority are) users for your own misguided ends! Just remember, all forum members and moderators are volunteers! Any and all help is given free and is dependent on the willingness of members to help!
    There are plenty of things in this world it is possible to get extremely upset about. I would suggest that this is not one of them! I for one, have better things to worry about!
    This post is the only comment I will be giving, I will not post again with regard to this matter!
    Unless of course anyone asks me nicely

  • Interlace flicker/DVD burning/toast solution?

    First, I'd like to thank all those posts regarding jaggies, etc. They've been most helpful. I have been doing a project with only high def stills and photoshop images, all of which are 1920 x 1080 or more. Thank you for the heads-up about not letting imove render before export. Yikes.
    I took Len Goff's advice and saved a disc image, then burned the img file and played it back on my imac. I loved it. It looked great. Out of about 450 images, only 10 perhaps flickered, but it's pretty minimal. I can certainly live with it, and it looked rather high def to me. Of course, I saw noticeable degeneration from imovie, but until we get high def burners....
    I have three questions. First, will toast 7 do any better job burning than disk utility? Will toast do away with the flicker altogether?
    Second, will the flicker be worse on televisions? Is my imac screen interlaced (I'm guessing yes.) Or is the flicker on my mac as bad as it's going to get? I can test on a television in my office tomorrow, but that's only one tv out of how many?
    Third, why did I burn a disc image anyway? What did that do for me?
    Does it yield better quality than just burning straightaway with idvd? Or was that just to catch any encoding issues?
    Thanks for your help.

    will toast 7 do any better job burning than disk utility?
    No, but you get more burning options with Toast.
    Will toast do away with the flicker altogether?
    If you do the slideshows in Toast, then yes, I believe it more blurs the images so they don't flicker.

    Is my imac screen interlaced (I'm guessing yes.)
    No, only TV screens are interlaced. That's why many interlacing problems are invisible on a computer screen.
    why did I burn a disc image anyway? What did that do for me? Does it yield better quality than just burning straightaway with idvd? Or was that just to catch any encoding issues?
    It only separates the encoding process from the burning process. This may be beneficial when trobleshooting or if you want to burn the actual DVD later, and maybe avoid burning coasters. Disk images also allow you to easily burn more copies. But IMO if everything goes OK, it doesn't really matter.

  • Syncing iPad iPhone iMac with Google Calendar, everything you want to know

    Ok Guys, I just spent the last 4 hours going nuts with experimentations, trials and errors, and I finally think I figured it out, so bear with me here because it's not that simple. And excuse me for the poor english, I'm from Brazil.
    Ok, in the iMac you're gonna set up a CalDAV account with your google login/password. It will work flawlessly and you won't have any problems, it will always update the google calendar and be updated by it. Just remember to use CMD+R to refresh it whenever you want, so you don't have to wait the 15 minutes or whatever you set in preferences.
    Now let's talk iPad and iPhone. First of all, you have 2 options to sync calendars with Google, you can use protocol CalDAV or protocol Exchange.
    Google's setup instructions for CalDAV (both iPhone and iPad) is here: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=151674
    The instructions for both iPhone and iPad for Exchange is here:
    http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138740
    (just be sure to select calendar only, cause I'm assuming you're using IMAP or other protocol for mail and contacts).
    The main difference between CalDAV and Exchange is that Exchange supports push updates, wich is instant, while with CalDAV you have to fetch manually (every time you open the calendar app) or another time setting (like 15 min, one hour, etc).
    Well, my experiences revealed that the iPhone and the iPad will sync flawlessly with Google Calendar and the iMac, without any problems, BUT as long as you use Exchange AND Push to update the calendars (CalDAV doesn't support Push, and you need Push so the iPad sync works).
    Let me repeat that: IF and ONLY IF you have BOTH Exchange protocol configured and PUSH enabled iPad and iPhone will sync flawlessly. But many people (me included) dont want to use push because a) it has a battery hit b) they don't need instant updates c) it consumes cellular data when you're not on Wifi, and if you don't have an unlimited plan that's not good.
    So, if you TURN OFF PUSH with Exchange sync, the iPad will stop syncing properly. Curiously, the iPhone will continue syncing properly.
    What I discovered is that, on the iPad, doesn't matter if you use CalDAV or Exchange, the moment you turn OFF push notifications it won't sync manually anymore. And by that I mean that with push off the iPad will not refresh calendar data when you open the calendar app (as it should since push is off and manual fetch is selected).
    To sum it up, I discovred that with push OFF in both the iPad and the iPhone (either with Exchange or CalDAV):
    - The iPhone will update both google calendar and the iMac;
    - The iphone will be updated by both google calendar and the iMac and events created in the iPad;
    - The iPad will NOT be updated when you open the calendar app, so it won't see any changes made either on the iPhone, iPad or Google Calendar, but when you create new events in the iPad you will see the data icon spinning so it will send that event to the other 3, but it will not recieve anything.
    On macrumors forum people discovered that on the iPad, if you open your calendar, close it, change settings from manually fetch to 15 minutes or whatever, it will sync the next time you open your calendar. But it's unreliable (doesn't work every time), not to mention that you won't want to do that every time you need to sync your calendar !
    What about the iPhone ? Well, in my experiences I found out that it doesn't matter if you use Exchange OR CalDAV, it will manually sync with push off every time you open the calendar app. Just a sidenote: the iPhone wasn't manually refreshing with push off as well, just like the iPad, but as soon as I rebooted it started to sync manually every single time and it has been so far. But the iPad didn't sync manually every time even after I rebooted it.
    To end it all, how to know if the calendar is manually syncing with Push OFF ? Well, just open the calendar app and after 5 seconds you should see the data spinning logo right next to the 3G or Wifi icon in the status bar. It must happen EVERY time you open the calendar app (you don't even need to force quit the calendar app for it to happen, it must happen every time you hit home and then open the calendar again). If it's not spinning (recieving data) 5 seconds after you opened the calendar app, it's not manually syncing, so on the iPhone you should reboot and on the iPad there's no fix I found so far (besides the unreliable fix of chaning the fetch time like I said before).
    Oh, I did all these tests with an iPhone 3GS running iOS4 (don't complain it's not 4.2.1, cause the iPhone IS working, the problem is with the iPad), and an iPad running 4.2.1.
    I just hope this thread gets attention because It almost drove me nuts to figure out all these things.
    Cheers,
    Felipe Raul

    An update: I am seeing the CalDAV account sync more frequently than the 15 minute interval I have Fetch set to, sometimes as soon as 5-6 minutes. This is however going in/out of the calendar app multiple times... Every once in a which it will update.
    I've found no pattern as to what triggers the sync. It doesn't seem to matter if I go into another app or not, or whether I close out the calendar app from the task menu. It's just totally random.
    You might say, "what's wrong with just letting it fetch every 15 minutes as it is schedule to do?" Well, most of the time this would be ok, but there are occasionally moments when a decision must be made and an up-to-the-minute current accurate calendar is required for this to happen.
    At this point, I'm going to have to keep my priority/vital calendars syncing via Exchange/push, and use CalDAV/push for the less vital calendars and at least have control over calendar colors with those.
    Also, just wanted to mention that all the above testing has been over a stable wifi connection, rather than 3G or Edge, in case it makes a difference. (I don't think it does.)

  • ITunes no longers asks "Do you want to keep the original file or move to trash?" - Can this be fixed?

    I'm not sure if this was a recent update in Mavericks, but when I used to delete items from iTunes it would ask something along the lines of:
    Do you want to keep the original file or move to trash?
    Now I no longer get this, instead iTunes asks:
    Are you sure you want to delete the selected song from your iTunes library?
    After which, if you choose the option "Delete Song", you get no option to keep the original file, it just straight up deletes if from my library and hard drive. Does anyone know if there is a way around this? For whatever reason, I want to be able to keep the original file on my Mac, without keeping it in my iTunes library.
    I've tried resetting dialogue warning, and this hasn't made a difference.
    Thanks!

  • I need to create a ghost image of my G4 iBook (OSX 10.3.9) and replace the OS9 on my G4 tower with the created iBook ghost image. How do you do this?

    I need to create a ghost image of my G4 iBook (OSX 10.3.9) and replace OS9 on a G4 tower with the Ghost image. How do you do this? Will my applications still work?
    The iBook is running Pather, i have tons of programs i use on it, project files, etc... and my G4 Mac tower is more powerful, faster, and more reliable than the iBook. I basiclly just want to take the entire OS, programs and files... create an image, and drop the image on the G4 Tower so it basically will function just like the iBook. Like a mirror image of everything that is on the iBook.  I know that you can create image files in the Disk Utility on Panther, but will that back up the entire OS with settings, programs, files and all?  ive never done anything like this before, so i wanted to post this up to see if i would get an answer. In the meantime, im reading "Mac OS X, Help Desk Essentials By Owen Linzmayer" to see if i can find the steps to do this.
    Any help would be greatly apprciated. Much thanks!

    Can't be done as an exact copy from one Mac to the other.  The operating systems are system specific. First make sure your system doesn't need a firmware update to get 10.2 or later on it. You'll need to install 9 on it if it does, direct from a 9 retail CD that is compatible with it *.  This disc can't say Upgrade, Dropin, or OEM. To determine compatibility, identify your G4 tower:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3082
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42739
    Then look at the OS 9 compatibility:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
    Then apply the correct update
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
    The last Mac OS 9 to come retail is 9.2.1, and that's newer than 9.0.4, 9.0.2, and 9.1.
    Your ghost image can be done using cloning software, but then you'll have to use a retail 10.3 installer and 10.3.9 combo update on the G4 tower.  Then use the Migration Assistant to import the data from the clone of the iBook. The 10.3 retail disc looks like * and does not say upgrade, dropin, or OEM.  The 10.3.9 combo update is here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxcombinedupdate1039.html
    The clone to an external hard drive can be done with these instructions*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html The import of the external hard drive with the migration assistant can be done with these instructions:

  • Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?

    Why ON EARTH would I want to do this??  Come on Apple, copy protection aside, this is the stupidest prompt in the history of prompts.
    The basic problem (if you Google it) that many many many many legitimate purchaser's of music are running into is this prompt.  And here is why:
    1.  We have an iPhone with a bunch of purchased songs on it and was at one point working with another iTunes library.
    2.  For whatever reason our computer crashes, the computer is gone/sold, not available, dead, pick your poison, it happens.
    3.  We setup a new computer and install iTunes and get a prompt to "Authorize" this computer (apparently we get 5 authorizations total).
    4.  We try to get all the songs from our iPhone back into iTunes and click the Sync button and ...
    5.  We get the following:
    The iPhone "Your iPhone's name" is synced with another iTunes library.  Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?
    An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time.  Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library.
    Really?  This is what I have to do, wipe out all my purchased songs so that iTunes and sync with a new library?  At what point did Apple think this idea was even remotely in the best interest of their customers?  Seriously?
    So now I'm stuck with an iPhone with songs on it, a computer with songs on it, but neither able transfer songs ... Happy Happy Joy Joy.  This is NUTS!?  Why punish people that you can verify they've purchased their songs with this bizarre scheme ... and further more, what if some of my songs on my iPhone were brought in from a valid CD purchase?
    So my only way out of this craziness, is to use a 3rd party app that will hack the transfer for me?  This is good how?  I'm sorry, but at what point did Apple's $40 Billion (yes Billion) profit for 2012 instigated this sort of treatment to valid paying customers?
    So ... here I am, anyone have a solution to this using "valid" means (without losing all my music) or is 3rd party hacks my only option?

    tt2,
    So if I understand you correctly ... I can't move or sync content that was imported via my own CD's that is now on my iPhone back over to my computer?
    Not with iTunes as your only tool, no.
    The ONLY way I can proceed is with an iPhone backup and then restore that iPhone backup to my computer rather than my iPhone?  I assume this will trigger yet another "used activation"?
    No you need a third party tool that will copy your other non-iTunes purchased media and photos not in the cameral roll across to your computer. (Some are listed, you can search the web for others).
    When you have recovered all the media you want you can then backup the iPhone to the computer (this backup ONLY includes application data and settings, and the cameral roll. After you have backed up this data to the computer you can then immediately restore the recently made backup to the iPhone. The data in the backup will obviously be copied back but all media must have been added to the library or it will be removed from the device.
    Your lost computer will count as an "activation" as will the new one. Apple devices don't add to the count. You can reset all your activations (including those you can't physically access) every 12 months should the need arise.
    Am I the only one that thinks this is the most crazy and bizarre process of simply moving a music file from one of my devices to another of my devices?  Especially ones that were imported from CDs.
    You still have the CDs? You can import them again. You sold, gave away, threw away the originals? Technically you no longer have the right to listen to the tracks you ripped. Is it inconvenient? Sure. One might argue that the very reason Apple & iTunes were able to drive the move to digital music to start with is that their system was designed to prevent the casual use of their devices as a means for "the kids" to simply "gift" their music libraries to each other without the tediously time-wasting efforts that the previous generation had to go through with home-taping. This no doubt helped get the content owners on board. Of course memory sticks and portable hard drives now make it trivially easy to copy content from one computer to another and indeed to simply backup your own content against a disaster but most people don't do either. Likewise they don't read instructions or terms and conditions until they are inconvenienced, and then complain. You and I might both wish iTunes made it easier, but it doesn't. And this isn't the place to complain about it. Use iTunes Feedback. You want help, it has been offered. Please read and inwardly digest it all properly this time. It does explain what you need to do to recover your data and safeguard it for the future.

    Several of my pages are locking up and I don't know why. As I work through the code, I remembered that I altered some text in a SendEmail by directly altering the page rather than using the Server Behavior. Don't understand why that would matter but whatever...
    Now as I ponder if that is causing the problem, I ran across this commented line in the code:

    Trigger and $tNG look suspiciously like ADDT code to me. Ask the guys in the ADDT forum (http://forums.adobe.com/community/dreamweaver/addt). There are a couple of them in there who know the code intimately. I haven't touched ADDT for ages.

  • You want to downgrade because the new updates won't work? Read this.

    First of all, I'm not any kind of techie person, I just have gone through this horrible experience of not being able to get into the itunes store at all after downloading the last 2 updates (7.4.2.4 and 7.4.3.1). Once I downgraded to 7.3.2.6 I was back in the itunes store downloading whatever I wanted. But, it was not all fun & games - the library file wouldn't work with the older version of itunes, and I lost all my playlists and had to reimport all my music. The second time I downgraded I did figure out how to save the playlists, but I still haven't figured out how to restore the itunes library file. If anyone has ideas about that feel free to post here.
    I consider this a last resort if you really need to get into the store. Hopefully you have already tried other suggestions in other forums. If you do decide to try this, you should read everything first to see what you're getting into. Also, if you just bought a new ipod, it probably won't work with the older version. You should keep calling the apple support phone #.
    The process isn't that much harder than installing an new version, although you need to uninstall 7.4.x first. *If you decide to try this I highly suggest you do a backup to disk first just in case.* Uninstalling itunes doesn't delete any of your music files, but it never hurts to have a backup. Go to File>Backup to disc.
    By the way, this is assuming you're on Windows XP.
    First get ready:
    1. Go to File>Export Library. Save this file somewhere in your My Documents Folder, not the iTunes folder.
    2. Export each playlist you have individually by right clicking on the playlist and selecting Export songlist. Save these text files in the same folder as #1.
    3. Now, download the version of iTunes you want from oldapps.com/itunes.htm. I used 7.3.2 and it worked fine.
    4. While that's downloading start uninstalling iTunes under Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Remove Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update, iTunes and QuickTime. Don't restart until all 4 are removed. (Optional, also run CCleaner - click the 'issues' button. This gets rid of a lot of little files that don't get removed in this process, but it's a little intimidating if you're not a techie person.)
    5. Now restart. After you're back up, click on the iTunes setup file you just downloaded. After it installs, when you open iTunes the first time, you'll probably see this error: "The file 'iTunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." When you click ok the box closes & iTunes doesn't open.
    Go into your iTunes folder (usually in your My Music folder) and remove this file - it will show up as iTunes Library.itl or maybe just iTunes Library. You could just delete it because you already have a backup from step #1. The other file, also called iTunes Library, is an .xml file that you can delete if you want.
    6. Open iTunes - it will look totally blank w/ no files. Don't panic! Go to File>Import and try to import the library you made way back in step #1. I'm sorry to say it might not work. If it doesn't, the next thing to try is to import an older version of the library file, which will be in the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder inside the iTunes folder. This also didn't work for me. So....
    7. If you couldn't get the library file to open, you need to add your music back in. I just went to File>Add Folder to Library and added my My Music folder. You could also try doing it from backup discs but that takes a long time; in either case, if you have a lot of music this will take awhile. Just let iTunes do it's thing.
    8. Now you can go to File>Import and select the playlists you created in step #1. This did work for me when I went from 7.4.3.1 back to 7.3.2.6.
    You should be good to go! I hope this helps some people. If you have any questions you can post them, but I can't promise that I will have answers.

    Hi - it sounds like you still need to move the library file, which is in step 5 of my original post; this is assuming you exported your library before you went back to 7.3 - if you didn't do that, don't delete anything yet - just try moving the itunes library.itl file onto your desktop:
    "Go into your iTunes folder (usually in your My Music folder) and remove this file - it will show up as iTunes Library.itl or maybe just iTunes Library. You could just delete it because you already have a backup from step #1. The other file, also called iTunes Library, is an .xml file that you can delete if you want (actually, just leave the .xml file where it is).
    "6. Open iTunes - it will look totally blank w/ no files. Don't panic! Go to File>Import and try to import the library you made way back in step #1."
    Since I wrote that I've gone back and forth a couple of times, and importing the backup library file should work. If for some reason you didn't export your library, you can try importing the iTunes Music Library.xml file in your iTunes folder. It takes a really long time but this does also work.
    If you were having the same 11333 error that I was, I was finally able to get into the iTunes store with 7.4.3 after installing certificate revocations lists as described on this page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306628
    I think that's helped a lot of people - have you tried that? Of course, to do that you would have to reinstall the newer version to try it.
    Please post again if you are still having problems with the library, but I think you should be ok!

  • There are purchased items on the iPhone "asingh's iPhone" that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this iPhone. Are you sure you want to continue?

    When I am trying to upgrade my iphone to IOS7.0.2 by connecting my my iphone and macbook, it shows "There are purchased items on the iPhone “asingh’s iPhone” that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this iPhone. Are you sure you want to continue? ".  I hit the same issue and lost a lot of apps from my iphone. Can someone help on how to resolve this issue? I can automatically upgrade my software on the iphone but how shall I resolve any future updates of "Apps"?

    I appreciate the answer, but what you describe is not entirely accurate.  First, to even see view, you have to enable the menu by clicking on the icon in the upper left.  View allows you to show the sidebar.
    Second, you will NOT see your devise listed in sidebar or anywhere else.  Instead, you have to click on "devise" from the sidebar menu, wait a minute, and then it will finally show up under "devise."   Or maybe it just takes a minute to show up whatever you do.
    Third, right clicking on your devise will take you to a menu with "transfer my files" on it, but then iTunes will refuse to make the transfer.  Instead, it will tell you that <your apps> on your <devise> could not be transferred to iTunes "because you are not authorized for it on your computer."  Apple unhelpfully suggests going to store> authorize this computer.  There is a "store" menu item on the sidebar, but it has no "authorize this computer" sub-menu.  Instead, go to the horizontal menu at the upper left, and THERE you will find "store" and the "authorize this computer" sub-menu.  Now you can transfer your files, to who knows where.
    My iPhone 5 is my first Apple devise. So far my experience has been, to do A, which must be done right now, you must first do B.  To do B you must first do C, which is unexplained save in answers in user forums.  To do C you must first do D, which, after several hours of research and puzzle solving, can eventually be done.

  • So You Want to Change Squirrelmail's Default Color Scheme...

    I needed to do this, because I'm migrating users to Dovecot over time. In the event they connect to the old webmail site I want it to be obvious, so I changed the background color.
    This requires vi or some other plain text editor. Proceed at your own risk.
    The file you need to edit is:
    /usr/share/squirrelmail/themes/default_theme.php
    1) First, make a backup copy.
    here's the file, in the event you ignore suggestion #1
    <?php
    * January 2, 2000
    * Theme Name: 'Default Theme'
    * This is the default theme that comes standard with SquirrelMail.
    * Most of the colors were taken from mail.yahoo.com's theme on their
    * site.
    * To create a new theme, just copy this file, and edit the colors.
    * Be sure to rename the file and keep the original, just in case.

    * @version $Id: default_theme.php 12127 2007-01-13 20:07:24Z kink $
    * @package squirrelmail
    * @subpackage themes
    global $color;
    $color[0] = '#dcdcdc'; // (light gray) TitleBar
    $color[1] = '#800000'; // (red)
    $color[2] = '#cc0000'; // (light red) Warning/Error Messages
    $color[3] = '#a0b8c8'; // (green-blue) Left Bar Background
    $color[4] = '#ffffff'; // (white) Normal Background
    $color[5] = '#ffffcc'; // (light yellow) Table Headers
    $color[6] = '#000000'; // (black) Text on left bar
    $color[7] = '#0000cc'; // (blue) Links
    $color[8] = '#000000'; // (black) Normal text
    $color[9] = '#ababab'; // (mid-gray) Darker version of #0
    $color[10] = '#666666'; // (dark gray) Darker version of #9
    $color[11] = '#770000'; // (dark red) Special Folders color
    $color[12] = '#ededed'; // (light gray) Alternate color for message list
    $color[13] = '#800000'; // (dark red) Color for quoted text -- > 1 quote
    $color[14] = '#ff0000'; // (red) Color for quoted text -- >> 2 or more
    $color[15] = '#002266'; // (dark blue) Unselectable folders
    $color[16] = '#ff9933'; // (orange) Highlight color
    ?>
    2) Change the hex code for the color to the color you want. For example, to change the background from white to a green-blue, replace;
    $color[4] = '#ffffff'; // (white) Normal Background
    with
    $color[4] = '#a0b8c8'; // (green-blue) Normal Background
    Here's a list of hexadecimal color codes:
    http://www.december.com/html/spec/colorsafe.html
    3) Save the file. If you are logged into webmail, reload the page to see the change.

    Here's another trick. Say you want to have each user have a specific theme, something other than default. The user specific settings for Squirrelmail are in /var/db/squirrelmail/data. Each user has a file called username.pref, where username = their actual short username. For the user msmith, it would be msmith.pref. For existing users, you can edit the file and add/modify whatever preferences you want. Set up your Squirrelmail like you want it site wide, and look at your pref file for an example. At my site, I want everyone to have the plain blue theme, and to turn off the alternating colors in the message list. Here are the preferences to do that:
    altindexcolors=0
    chosentheme=../themes/plain_bluetheme.php
    I added those two lines to each users pref file, when they log in next they will have the plain blue theme. They can change it in the "Options" if they wish, but day one they get the plain blue theme.
    For new users that you create through Workgroup Manager, there is a file in that directory called default_pref. That file is a template Workgroup Manager uses when creating a new user in Squirrelmail, so just add the prefs you want in that file, and each new user gets those preferences automatically when they are created.
    There is a plugin that dose something similar called forced_prefs available at the Squirrelmail site, but if you force those prefs, users will not be able to change them if they want. It's also not real simple to use, at least for me. Documentation is pretty sparse as well.
